  • Today I'm showing you how to do reamping or use external hardware in Reaper. There are a few settings here that can easily trip people up.
For this video I'm reamping a DI guitar with a Kemper Profiler, and the basic setup in Reaper is pretty much the same for using external hardware such as compressors or other audio processors. Keep in mind that for using real guitar amps or pedals a Reamp Box is necessary to convert to an unbalanced signal.

I still hear the d.i track. I've followed every step and still i hear the d.i when i monitoring the amp through the microphones. What should i do?... I've turned down all the faders, even the master fader, still i hear the d.i on the left side.

I have been making a mess of Realnsert VST and levels. I ended up having to have focusrite support walk me through the hardware set up. Still not there. (Prefader setting might fix - great video here)

Thanks for the video. Still doesn't work for me for whatever reason, no matter what I do I just get no sound whatsoever from the Kemper. I have the DI recorded and set it up the exact same way you did the only difference was using a guitar cable.

Hmm...that's weird, should be working. I'm guessing you're trying to reamp "analog" style instead of using S/PDIF? Probably some dumb setting somewhere, but not sure where...

@@KennethACrashwaggonMusic Yeah I just don't have the right cord for S/PDIF right now so I wanted to try it that way but its been a huge pain. I tried everything I could for like 2 hours and then just recorded it in the normal way.

@@KennethACrashwaggonMusic Here, and sorry for this, it doesn't work as well. I'm in s-pdif, and it's all ok until I activate the ReaInsert plugin. After that, no sound anywhere. My signal chain (Kemper birthdate 2019, so the soundcard_focusrite scarlett 6i6_ is "slave", in 44100kHz, "Sync. Source : s-pdif" ) : s-pdif OUT scarlett into Kemper's S-pdif IN, K's S-pdif OUT into Scarlett S-pdif IN. There's an awful 'oise, like a digital larsen. Have I done something wrong in all that ?

This is driving me up a wall!!! Set up just like yours, except I’m using a FocusRite 8i6. I think my problem is in the ReaInsert. For my Hardware sends, I’m only getting a choice between None, Output 1 and Output 2.
On my FocusRite, Outputs 1 & 2 go to my monitors. I have 2 S/PDIF outputs set up in my FocusRite control software, but they’re not selectable in the ReaInsert VST.
But I do have 2 S/PDIF cables hooked up, one from KPA out the FocusRite in, and one from FocusRite out to KPA in. Shouldn’t that be all I need? Any idea how to get the FocusRite S/PDIF out to be recognized by the ReaInsert?
Btw, I can set my hardware returns to S/PDIF 1 or 2, but nothing I do brings the return volume peak above -54db. Even if I turn the Reamp Sensitivity up to +12.0db on the KPA, then my return volume peaks at around -44db, but nothing records and nothing plays through the FRFR connected to my KPA (should it?).

Just an idea..check your output settings in Reaper preferences (Device - Output Range). Could be that you've only set output 1 and 2 there instead of all available outputs on the interface. That may explain why you can't choose the S/PDIF outs in ReaInsert.

@@KennethACrashwaggonMusic I’m definitely setup for Output 1 and 2 for my range, but S/PDIF isn’t a choice there. Though I just hooked up S/PDIF out today. Maybe a restart of Reaper or the PC will make it discoverable...

Hello! It doesn't work for me. When reamping through a Palmer Daccapo reamp box I get extreme tone loss even when my external fx are bypassed. It looses almost all midrange and bass and it gets even worse when I engage any of my distortion pedals (analog pedals). Do you have any idea what the cause is here?
My signal chain is: Reaper - out from my motu8pre-es - into palmer reamp box - into pedals - into hi-z jack on an external preamp - into audio interface again.
    please help!

This works only with spdif from kemper into the audio interface?

I am reamping using my Behringer 404 into my reamp box. My problem is, I am not getting maximum signal from reaper out of the behinringer. Does the way you show here give you 100% signal coming out of the audio interface(behringer)?

    • @KennethACrashwaggonMusic

Yeah, normally adjusting the volume on the DI track (item volume) should do the trick in most cases.

Would it work micing a real amp?

    • @KennethACrashwaggonMusic
      @KennethACrashwaggonMusic  3 года назад +2

Yes! You would need a reamp box for that though (basically a reverse DI box). Radial has a few really good ones.
