Brother you just saved my life today with this video... God bless!!!!!! I had no idea I could do this. My battery died and I closed the doors and hood after i took the battery out. I went into panic mode!!!😂 Thanks to ur video u saved my sanity.. God bless you brother...
BIG thanks! I have a 2016 Malibu and my Mylink radio locked up. I went to get tools and did not think about the car locking itself! I disconnected the negative battery terminal and closed the hood, making me realize that I was now unable to open the hood or unlock it...until I saw your video. SMH I figured if someone has a dead battery, GM would have a (backup) way to still get in the car, and thanks to you I am back in my unlocked car! Appreciated!
Just looked in my daughter’s 2018 manual. It showed how to remove the key from the fob, but no detail about removing the small cover on the door handle. We just happened to examine the door handle and spotted the small hole on the bottom side. All in the name of “aesthetics”. 🤬
Very helpful thanks. I was locked out in freezing cold at night with my 3 yr and thought it was going to be longer and your video was the 1st one to pop up. Thanks.
A buddy of mine has a 2018 and that plastic cover popped off and everything worked fine until he tried to put it back on... The problem that I see when I go to remove it is, it looks as if there's a clip or something holding it to the handle itself?
When you put the cap back on, hook the cap on the lock frame towards the door edge first, pull the handle out, then pivot the cap closed over the lock, until the front catch snaps in place. If it won't stay, you may have broken or deformed the catch.
Same problem here i took off the cap from my 2021 Camaro and at the time i put the cap back on it looks out of place and it won't detach anymore... anyone knows how i can take it out without damaging anything
@@Stylz1566 what do you mean by lunch the prongs together? I jammed mine and I cannot get it to come back out and I almost ripped the handle off the car trying
Because all of the dealerships have videos on how to do it, and really they should show you once you buy the car of course they're not going to show you if you're just shopping.
Okay what if everything that happens to everyone happened to me except I placed another door from another Chevy Malibu except it is 2016 and the door I placed for the driver side my car is a 2017 Chevy Malibu will that key in the fob still work for that door I swapped
If you had changed the door key lock on the door then it would work, otherwise it will not work. In this case you have to call auto locksmith. Hope this helps. Good luck!
1. You have to disconnect battery terminal. OR 2. Remove Battery fuse. Whichever you can get done fast would be the way to go. Unfortunately both can take some time.
hey i took off the plasic piece and i popped it back in but i think i did it opposite Im trying to get it off but its stuck and not in corectly please help me
@@fixit3879 I found out that inside the middle console there is a mini slot for the key fob when the battery is dead you can still drive \(^-^)/ yu just have to slide fob there
So speaking of why don't dealers do something, why don't RUclips creators finish the job they started, and to end opening the little cap on the door to reveal the keyhole and putting the cap back on the proper way that's a video that you can't find on RUclips anywhere. Produce that and add this to this video not a separate length not a separate video just make it part of this video and you will get five stars all over the internet.
thank you so much for that video I thought the car was going to have to be towed because the battery died I got out it locked itself and I didn't know how we were going to get into pop the hood to charge the battery you think people would explain things like this to you when you picked up a car and this is a rental car and all my things are in there so I was wondering how I'm going to get them out now I can get them out before the people come and get the car
Here is what you can do: 1. Go To any local Chevrolet Dealership. 2. Tell the Parts Department that you need them to cut you a key and you lost the original. 3. Show them your ID, and The Title of your vehicle showing that you are the legal owner. They will also need the VIN of you vehicle. 4. They will charge you anywhere $25-$75 to just cut the metal key. It takes them about 20-30 minutes to cut it max. Hope this helps. Thank you!
My son and I got locked outside of our car and we watched this video. Thanks for all the help you saved me like 300 dollars from the tow truck.

Probably it's in manual.

Same here. It seem that mine is jammed.
Is it still jammed

How do you take it off if it gets jammed from putting it on wrong
DUDE !!
Thank you
Good grief could not figure out how to get into the car. Perfect vid
Thanks for this video. You saved my cars life! I went into panic mode after doing some work under the hood and disconnecting the battery.
Thank you for the video. My battery was dead and I couldn’t open the car with the fob so I did what you recommended and was able to open my car.
You are welcome. Glad I could help. Thank you.
Glad you showed how to put the door handle thingy back on! None of the other videos showed how.
Anyone else struggle to put the cover back in place??
Did you fix it?
Just looked up this video. Car wouldnt start. Now it did. Thanks so much!
I guess I put the cover back on wrong and now I can't get it back off. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I did the same thing, if you haven’t figured it out still, try pulling both out at the same time, it might take a few try’s but I got it to work!
Pretty much pinch the prongs together then pull them out at the same time
@@Stylz1566 what do you mean by lunch the prongs together? I jammed mine and I cannot get it to come back out and I almost ripped the handle off the car trying
I just figured it out
@@twalten36 How? I just got mine stuck
My key hole cover won’t go back on properly, it jiggles and can come off easy. What’s the reason for that?
How did you open the engine compartment to charge the battery if the battery was dead and the car was locked?
Good looks, found this in desperate need to get in my car smh 🤦🏾♂️ changing my batt now haha
What is the piece called that you took off? Mine fell off and I can’t find it. Need to buy another one and can’t find it

How did you put the cap back on? You put the right side on first then it snapped? Or! Because you didn’t show it.
Well, shit! I did not know this. I have an 18 model and I had no idea I could do this. Thanks!
You are welcome! Thank you! Well now you know a little trick! Shhhhh.....Couple weeks ago I didn’t know it either. Shhhhh again....
I'm locked of my vehicle. The key fob is in the trunk and I can't open the trunk

I have the same issue. Did you figure out how to fix it?
@@twalten36 sadly no, however when it’s time to get an oil change again I’m gonna ask the folks at chevy to fix it for me lol.
Wow I have a 17 model Malibu and I never knew this. Thank you so much.
Look in your manual , it may say to pull handle out when prying off the keyhole access cover.
How do you start the car if battery is dead?
After you get the door open (as told above), open the hood, and charge the battery.
Thank you! You literally just saved me!
nice malibu my friend! i love mine
Have a friend who's locked in a 2017 Malibu right now with no way to get out due to a dead battery is there a way to unlock the door from the inside??

How do you stop the alarm from going off If the battery in the key is dead?
1. You have to disconnect battery terminal. OR
2. Remove Battery fuse.
Whichever you can get done fast would be the way to go. Unfortunately both can take some time.
Thank you for sharing this video bro I needed it🙏
Still confused...If the key fob battery is completely dead and you open the door as shown how will it start the car?
too much shaky cam. putting cover back on wasn't demonstrated real good, but the cover off portion was good.
Just amazing. Already trained up the wife.
Is that the only use for that little key

Lmao, He's not your saviour, it's a RUclips video, does not make him an expert on fixing stupid moves
Did you ever get it off? If so how? I made the same issue and it won’t come off
Nice! I didnt know this could you use it to drive too?? Or is it just to open doors
So the idea here is that the car is a PUSH BUTTON START. So I would not be able to use it to start the car and drive it too. Thank you for watching!

What the hell was GM thinking when they did this?
What do you mean? Why is it bad?
Norma Ramos yes, it is a terrible design. Why not make the keyhole visible without having to pop off pieces of the handle?
I agree. It’s a very shitty design. My friend went to pop hers back on and it is stuck and won’t come off or go back on the right way

I chipped the paint on my keyhole cover, and I can’t find a replacement, all they have is chrome covers 🤢
You should be able to sand, and then paint, the cap.

You are welcome!
What about starting the car
IMHO, if this had to be done in cold weather, you might want to warm up that plastic cap with a hair dryer, so that it doesn't crack.
OMG this is a life saver
Thank you 😊
Thanks for the help
omg i got a 2019 and didn't even know it was a damn key inside the sensor
Woah. Can I have that Chevy logo!?

The idea is if your battery dies you’ll be able to open car to open hood to charge or replace battery.
