Scotty I desperately need your help again. And my issue would make for a great video because alot of people do this to their car. I'd be willing to drive there again I'd even buy you lunch?
Great information, easy to understand. I did the same test years ago, rolling the windows down FIRST. "you might want to roll down the window first" That's probably the best advice in this whole video. Honestly, there are many people out there that won't even think about doing that they would just toss their key in there and not even consider what might happen. Since I'm old school I used to always keep a spare key in my wallet. Nowadays, I just have AAA coverage if I have a problem like that where I'm locked out I can call them and they'll come out and unlock my car for me. One time I was out and about with a friend of mine in his car and he locked his keys inside so I called AAA to come out and in fact they used the bladder and a long adjustable rod exactly like you are doing it here. When you think about it with all the technological advancements they have made in automobiles the absolute worst and weakest link in the chain after all this time is still the battery.
a little trick I used to do (having a 2011 Mazda CX-7) was to detach the buttons part (remote control) of my key fob and leave it in my pants pocket all the time and forget about it (until I’d need it to open the car in case I’m locked out or something) and always use the metal part for my daily uses. You’re probably asking why I don’t do the opposite and use the remote control for my daily basis ? Well that’s to prevent thieves from intercepting my key fob signals, copy them and then come later and steal my car ! So to recap : I keep the spare key at home and use the main key as 2 keys : 1 for daily uses, and the 2nd as a spare key that stays attached to my body all the time ; I don’t put it in my phone or purse coz I may forget the phone/purse themselves in my locked car.
I remember when I locked myself out my car, an older dude helped me open it with a hanger. He told me to leave it in my trunk in case I’m ever locked out again. I was like if I could open my trunk would I still be locked out
Get a copy of your car key cut at a hardware store. It won’t start the car in modern cars because it won’t have the fob that signals the ignition. But it will work for the door. Put it in a magnetic hide-a-key under the fender.

I purchased a similar kit, but to help others. But the only way anything is going to help you get into your own car is if it is accessible to you. Those tool sitting in your trunk will do no good with getting you back in your own car. I used to lock my keys in my car quite frequently and then I got smart (and disciplined ). I made two 3x5 cards that reminded me to put my key in my pocket before standing up. One for the windshield and one for my driver's side window. To my surprise, it only took a week to train myself and I never locked them inside again. I don't even have to do it anymore with my vehicles but I still do it by habit. Huge problems can be solved with small disciplines.Try it and see. You will shock yourself how well it really works and what little effort.
That could be done and it is a good idea in a time when it is needed. Still, I think I'm going to promote my idea of reminding the driver with flash cards to stick the key in a pocket before getting out. I didn't know if it was going to work out but I was very surprised by the good outcome.
I just bought my third Hulkman. Very impressive! If you're locked out, slap a bunch of duct tape on a window and work it down slowly. You'll get a working gap pretty quickly.
Tow truck driver here... on some toyota and lexus models when you pull the lock lever inside you need to pull the door handle almost instantly. If you mistime the pull you WILL trigger the alarm LOL. you also would want to work from the passenger side
Won't work with prox. fobs, but everything before that, 2 things. 1.kill-switch below dash. (I know has nothing to do with this, but always my first suggestion lol) 2. Spend the money and put one in the trunk. Used small gauge galvanized cable to connect to the emergency release in the trunk and run the other end out below. I ran mine right next to my gas tank strap. No one would ever notice it's there.
Even if you have a newer vehicle that needs the remote so that the car will start, you can still have a plain key cut so at least you can open the door to get your keys. Many places will say, oh, you have to have the remote, nope. Plus, a plain keys is easier to put in your wallet, or if you use one of the magnetic key holders, if they find it, they may open the door, but it won't start, (unless you left your keys in the car)
Even my 2009 Toyota won't start without the factory key. I did as you suggested however and got a keys cut just to get me in the door if I'm locked out. I keep it in my wallet and one at home.
This makes me so happy. I have a Lincoln. I’ve got the five digit keypad on the side. I just leave my key in the center armrest all the time and I lock it from the keypad and I unlock it from the keypad.
I do roadside assistance and help with 15+ lockouts. Toyotas are the only vehicles that do not lock when the key is in the ignition. The rest don’t and yes, no matter how old or new it is, it WILL still lock you out. I would highly suggest getting a second key because if you own an American, Japanese, German or a Korean car then chances are it could lock you out.
I have a hulkman 80 and is awesome. Saved me countless time when my car had low battery problem. Great power bank too to charge cellphones when you forget about to charge
I just use my app to unlock my door. BUT not all people can do that. But like always. My husband has the spare key and the extra key fob. I probably should let my son have the key fob so I have two people to call though. Fortunately (Thank God!) I haven’t locked my keys in the vehicle in over 30yrs. I pray I never do again.
You could also hide a spare key. I hide a key inside my truck away from the ignition area so not not to interfere with lock/unlock. in a metal case. I than use outside key pad to get in. This works with remote fobs
I put one in a magnetic holder and put it behind the bumper somewhere years ago and it’s still there so I can reach up under there and feel for it. It has come in handy a couple of times.
What works for me is getting a spare key cut. The spare key won't start the car because there's no transponder. It will only open the door. I then hide the key somewhere under the car. Even if a crook found it, they won't be able to start the car. I usually don't keep valuables in the car so there's nothing of worth to steal.
My 93 T-bird was possessed. If I even thought about leaving the key init, it would lock me out and laugh. But, I could unscrew the antenna and open it with that... Last laugh was on it. 😉
When I worked security at a bank's central cash vault, we always had a couple of wire coat hangars on hand, bent in a couple different ways, for unlocking vault employee's car doors. Which we had to do, about every other week... As for motorcycle batteries? My 2018 Harley Freewheeler trike still has it's original battery. Mainly because, if I'm not going to be riding it for a while - like, say, in the Indiana winter? It's hooked up to a Deltran Battery Tender. Which monitors the battery constantly, and always keeps it fully charged. If I'm snowed in, and it's stupid cold - and going to be for several days? I have a compact Battery Tender that can sit under the hood, next to the battery. I love those things...
I used to keep a spare key in my wallet back when they were thin, flat keys. Now I keep two keyrings in my pocket with keys to both cars on both rings. The last time I locked my keys in the car, before carrying two key rings, I used a wedge shaped wood door stop to hold the car door gap open and a 5 ft piece of rebar to stick through the gap to push the electric door lock button.
Having a spare key handy with you is sure helpful if you lose track of things, that is as long as the key doesn't have a chip. My spare key is made of metal. It can open the door, but it won't do anything in the ignition.
That's a great kit to unlock ones car, but where would you store it? In the trunk or inside of the car, where you need the key anyway? Because you're locked out of your car somewhere beside your home.
Most modern cars like Audis when you lock the doors and leave the car, the car disables all of the unlock buttons inside the car so even if you can use this tool to push unlock the doors still won’t open
Hey Scotty, I actually locked the keys in my 2011 Prius for the first time since I bought it back in 2011! The keys were left in the very back corner of the hatch, which allowed the car to start and lock! I am not sure how the keyless entry detected the key enough to allow the car to start, but didn’t prevent it from locking. I’m thankful I was close to home, and a spare set could be brought to me. Do you know how this could have happened? Great videos! Thank you for saving me a ton of money over the years!!!
I can show you how to open most any vehicle with a piece of plastic banding that goes around packages.... it's EASY.. (I worked for AAA for years- and in Cali- didn't have a lot of time-- so the strap trick works GREAT- and quick- and works on almost all cars.. or at least up to 2000... I'm not sure about the new ones.. but I think it will.
Hi Mr. Scotty! I noticed you have some money in your key drawer, I had a dollar once until my wife found it. But it was nice for just a short time to not be broke!
Great article, I tried this on my 2017 cruze diesel it worked but I tried it from the passenger side it will lock the fob in it I happened it by accident and Im glad to know.
I'm a fan of those magnetic boxes but they're not full proof. I used one for years without fail, but my last one made its way to my exhaust and melted:) Guess because I went over too many bumps too fast for way too long without checking on it:) Anyways, a few months ago I drilled a small hole through a piece of framing/metal underneath my car, ran a bolt through it followed by my key (drilled a hole in my key too to fit over the bolt) tighten it all up with a wingnut BAM! Fixed the issue I believe:) HA!
You have to manually lock the driver's door with the key on my old Honda. It's probably saved my bacon a couple dozen times over a couple of decades. Simply brilliant design.
If you have a remote key fob locked in the car. Call home or someone has access to a spare fob and you have a cell phone. Call them and get them to press unlock as you hold the cell phone at the drivers door key hole. The signal will pass through and unlock the door.
You dont need a "kit", go to menards where they sell doors and they have the exact same bladder bag thing in two sizes. They sell them for leveling doors when you install them yourself. Same exact thing except the menards one is actually made in Denmark for some reason....probably lasts longer than one 从中国. I have two of the smaller ones (same as in the video) they work amazing. For a wire I use a muskrat stretcher that I cut bottom stuff off....probably four times thicker than a coat hanger and works really well too.
@@cathycraig1301 Pardon me.... A muskrat FUR stretcher, so it dries out, after you skin it, before you sell it, so they can falsely call it a mink, make a coat out of it, and sell it for $10,000, so somebody else can steal it, by breaking into a car, with a muskrat stretcher....thingy. Happy?
I've done the same thing several times using a coat hanger. Once a coworker had me open her car door. After I got it open she screamed, "That's not my car! that's my car!" Pointing to another vehicle. The kicker? The two vehicles weren't even the same color. lol. Shalom/gw. BTW. NEVER put a lithium battery in anything you don't want to see burn. However LiFe batteries don't have that problem.
As a young teenage woman, my father taught me to put a spare key in a Ziploc bag, fold it up, and put it in the little spot inside the gas door that is meant to hold the cap while you refill the car. I’ve only had to use it one time, but that one time was certainly worth it!
I never get out of my car without the keys. I have a 06 Corolla. For some reason it sometimes locks the doors by itself. Got locked out once, learned my lesson...
Suppose your at the store and you lock yourself out of the car and the unlock bladder kit is locked in the trunk, your still locked out right. I mean the kit isn't something you can easily carry in your back pocket.
I've seen videos recently that show opening your car by using a plunger on the glass and pulling it down. I'm sure that will break something, if it doesn't break the glass itself!
In my older Camry, you can just pull the inside handles from outside, and it mechanically unlocks the door lock automatically. But only works for the front doors
I'm a locksmith & about 1/6 of people who lock their keys in their car didn't realize 1 of their windows was rolled down. Yes - really! Also, guys, train yourself to NEVER EVER let your keys out of your hand unless you're putting them in your pocket, & only leave them in the ignition if you're sitting in the driver's seat. Never let your children play with your keys. And those bladders Scottie used, on some cars, will bend the window frame.
I locked my Toyota car keys in my trunk. As soon as I closed the trunk, I heard the car doors lock. Then I was like Oh no what can I do? I called AAA and they came out right away. They got the car door open. Then the car trunk would not open. We tried everything. We tried to see if I could access the trunk through the inside of the car. We tried pushing the button for the trunk but it wouldn't open. So with the trunk button inside the vehicle and the trunk button on the trunk handle not working, we were at a loss. Then I pushed it randomly and it opened! God bless my AAA guys, they were amazing. By the way, I am in my late 60's and I couldn't find my 2nd set of keys. Oldsheimers.
The only reason cars don’t use lithium ion batteries is due to all the heat in the engine compartments, not a lack of power. Some cars with trunk mounted batteries are using lithium ion.
If I lock my keys (fob) in my car, it's usually intentional. I disable my fob and leave it in the car, then manually lock the car with the door lock switch. I usually do this when I travel to an area where I'm going to be swimming. Then I use PIN Code Access to get back into my car.
My car was running, in park, and on a very slight incline. I opened the door to get a turtle out of the road. The door slammed shut and LOCKED me out! It was summer and very hot. I couldn't get in the car and couldn't move my car. I found someone to call AAA as my phone was in my car. Long story short, someone from a car wash had the kit that Scotty showed and opened my door for me. I went straight to the hardware story and had a spare key made that unlocks the door only. I hid it on my car. I won't ever be locked out again but I never thought the door would stay locked after the door was opened.
i like to "tie" a spare under the vehicle where i can reach it without crawling under , wire that you can manipulate by hand works best for keeping the key in place , has been working for me many years ;-)
Lost my key fob somehow. I walked over to our shop and the mechanic had the same thing to spread my door open wide enough to "snag my door handle" with a clothes hanger to open it. My key didn't work in the key hole for some reason
Hey Scotty, what could you do if you lock yourself out and the car's battery is dead. I hear a lot of this with electric cars, I laugh so hard when I see an electric car owner locks their keys in and the battery is dead. Love the show, keep it going.
Blood hell, my VW keeps locking the doors even if the key is in the ignition. Massively frustrating. Have been shafted once before. To be honest, your not going to be walking around with a backpack containing your scullduggery kit. If you are that's a reflection of your character and honesty
400 bucks for the hulkman??? I remember when you had the topvision starter and i bought 3 of them. Theybwere like 85 bucks and they have worked like a charm in every situation.
I hid a key inside the front turn signal light on my 1971 VW Squareback. All I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver to access it from the outside. Never needed it after my wife tried to back out of the garage with the hatch open. Why was the car stuck? The latch never lined up properly again. 😅
In many states- it is ILLEGAL to own those car opening kits... you are REQURED to call AAA or police to get in.. or get arrested for owning burglary tools.
@@Latarian_HoodRat I took my key out of my key fob and hid that . And I took my spare key fob and hid it inside of my truck. Why keep it at home. And why do you have a picture of a blond haired Alice Cooper as a thumbnail????😂😂😂😂😂
I have a hidden house key in my shed. I showed my son where it was. I told him if you ever get locked out these a spare to get in the house. I also said, “This key NEVER goes inside! Open the door, and hang it back where it belongs.” Well you can probably already guess where this is going. My son called me a few months later. “Dad I got locked out of the house.” I said “No. remember there’s a spare key in the shed.” He said “The key is gone.” “How’s it gone?” He said “I can see it but can’t get to it.” “Where is it?” “It’s on the kitchen counter where I left it.”
Only works when you have that set nearby. E.I. you lock the keys in at the mall, etc and the pouch is at home - not much help. I got a reg key that just unlocks the door made at the locksmith, no chip etc and put that in the magnetic box under the frame. Saved my daughter a couple times already.

Leave the tool in the garage and if needed, someone can bring it
That could be done and it is a good idea in a time when it is needed. Still, I think I'm going to promote my idea of reminding the driver with flash cards to stick the key in a pocket before getting out. I didn't know if it was going to work out but I was very surprised by the good outcome.
I do have a spare key in my wallet, I try to learn from my mistakes and I listen to you and experienced people
Yea that works great until you don't have your wallet. It's so easy to hide a key underneath somewhere. Now that's experience.

Dont use the bladder on the drivers side as they frequently buckle the door slightly, and its easier to put up with a buckled passenger side door.
why do you need to learn anything when you can start KIA and hyundai with just USB cable?
@@dwadd7528 That company will never live that down.
Thanks I got like 5 cars now ! You are awesome
Won't work with prox. fobs, but everything before that, 2 things.
1.kill-switch below dash. (I know has nothing to do with this, but always my first suggestion lol)
And when someone breaks your car window, you have graciously supplied them with your car key.
It has come in handy a couple of times.
now I know how to break into Sweet Celica, thanks, Scotty!
Good morning 🌞 Scotty always give me such good advice on car 🚗 repairs and truck repairs and you are a great 👍 mechanic 👨🔧
You must be a Catholic priest.
My 2007 Buick Lucerne always did the same thing and so was a new Chevy Impala that my grandparents test drove. GM had them programed to do that.
What about the Kia and Hundayi cars you can steal with the usb thing?
Thank you Scotty! Also. Tape up the edges to minimize scratches.
Having a spare key handy with you is sure helpful if you lose track of things, that is as long as the key doesn't have a chip. My spare key is made of metal. It can open the door, but it won't do anything in the ignition.
Sledgehammer works good to get into any car according to some people in Chicago. 😉
That's a great kit to unlock ones car, but where would you store it? In the trunk or inside of the car, where you need the key anyway? Because you're locked out of your car somewhere beside your home.
Mr Kilmer this helps a lot thanks!
So what if you have a problem with your bladder? No…wait…I’m an old man-that’s me.
Thanks Scotty - what a great episode, right on
I bought one of this kit and i have saved 100s in locksmith charges. 25 dollars well spent!
Hi Mr. Scotty! I noticed you have some money in your key drawer, I had a dollar once until my wife found it. But it was nice for just a short time to not be broke!
I usually love Scottie but way to teach everyone how to break into cars. Reminds me of all the news shows and the Kia challenge.

Hey Scotty, my '99 Dodge Ram 3500 can be running with the key in the ignition and the doors locked. Awesome for when my dog's with me. 😎

I hide mine in a tie down hole in front of the rear tire on my pickup truck. . 12 years and it's always there to use.
You have to manually lock the driver's door with the key on my old Honda. It's probably saved my bacon a couple dozen times over a couple of decades. Simply brilliant design.
After 12:30 of total truth from Scotty I am now under the influence of TRUTH!
Oh wait that’s a good thing!!👍👏
One of the best features of Ford is their key pad entry system on the door.
If you have a remote key fob locked in the car. Call home or someone has access to a spare fob and you have a cell phone. Call them and get them to press unlock as you hold the cell phone at the drivers door key hole. The signal will pass through and unlock the door.
How I love that motor reving in the begining and that bell in the end

Hey man, where do you buy that kit and by name what is the name of the kit?!! Got us Lost there!! Cause you didn't really say !!! 💯
I had no idea one could stretch a muskrat. That could hurt.
Scotty showing amateurs how to break into cars. Like we dont have enough of that problem in Chicago.
I think they already know this. Criminals learn the trade in prison.
Trust me, criminals won't take the time to bother with this
As a young teenage woman, my father taught me to put a spare key in a Ziploc bag, fold it up, and put it in the little spot inside the gas door that is meant to hold the cap while you refill the car. I’ve only had to use it one time, but that one time was certainly worth it!
If you choose to use the information for the wrong reason, thats on you
I have Ford's keyless numeric pad on my F-150. It's a real convenience, and I shouldn't have to worry about locking myself out.
WELL YOU KNOW SOMETHING, BROTHER, THE HULKMAN IS THE BEST, BROTHER.
Locksmith picked my lock in 30 seconds. No scratches, no hassle. Worth every dime.
That's a better way to do it. I heard one locksmith say that those bladders can deform the door.
Had that used in front of me one time, worked great. But, Scotty, what if you keep it in the trunk? LOL!
Thank you! Valuable information!
I got locked out of my old car and the police used one of these pumps and a coat hanger. Works great.
Thank you for this useful guide. I will use this very responsibly.
I won't ever be locked out again but I never thought the door would stay locked after the door was opened.
the turtles of the world will love you double.
Lesson learned, just drive around it. (Or straddling it would be the safest option)
@@Jabberwockybird If I ever stop to get something out of the road again, I will certainly unlock all the doors first. Cheers.
i like to "tie" a spare under the vehicle where i can reach it without crawling under , wire that you can manipulate by hand works best for keeping the key in place , has been working for me many years ;-)
I saw a late model Aston Martin, that had a lithium battery. To replace the battery, it was like 2,300 pound sterling.. That's around $3,000 US.
Local dealer charges $500 for keyless FOB replacement.
$250 for a spare chip ignition for my 2006 Toyota Highlander.
Great review, Scotty. Thank you.
