Thank you. I enjoyed this greatly. Especially the map aspect, with the controlled areas of each house laid out clearly. I am an old strategy game player, and maps are how I digest politics. As far as I know, no one has laid it out this clearly. Well done.
Thanks! These videos are based on many other similar videos, so I do have a great basis. So, thanks to all the people who explored the lore of GoT previously.
Every other house which has had it’s seat at Harrenhal also met a bad end. If you’re curious, look up the history of the castle on A Wiki of Ice and Fire, it’s very interesting stuff.
Baelish actually never set foot in it, saying Harrenhal was cursed and ended up becoming Lord Protector of the Vale instead. Janos became the Commander of the City Watch but got sold down the river by Tyrion. The curse came from the houses that were assigned the house- Qoherys, Lothston, Strong, Whent and others. Perhaps the only way to break the curse is to have an ironborn inherit the castle again
I’m starting a home brew GoT tabletop rpg for my friends (I don’t like the system of the public version) and these videos showing the houses are very helpful. Could you do a series on just which houses are sworn to other houses? I want to know which houses have vassal houses
Great video man just 1 point of critique. Sherrer is located in Vance land and Wendish town is located in Darry lands not in Pipers lands. Keep up the good work
I really love your Videos about those lesser houses it really gives a better look on Westeros and the World of Asoiaf itself. Question aren't the lords of Saltpans the Hawicks and the Coxes are lesser knights in their service? But I could be wrong though.
I know this is many years late, but I rewatched this video, and have to ask, are you sure about Roote and Wode? I got the impression they were tiny little houses? House Wode is specifically stated to be ''two landed knights sworn to Harrenhal'', so if you included all of Frey's vassal lands with Frey, then you should have done the same here and showed that area as Whent's.
Henrik Genzink well there is an tneory that the darrys and other houses made the first massacres up in order to promote war. mainly taken out of the inconstencies like hearing the mountain through a stonewall and everyone burning alive yet having witnesses from that same town.
Well, yes, after all Westeros is not alone in the Known World and even on this continent they got several languages. I am going to remake this episode at some point though.
I think they are when you include their vassel houses, thay have 4 or 5 at least/named, though a bit in the top corner might be House Vypren, who may or may not be another vassel. However if you mean what they directly own, then about a quarter of that area, but the rest of it is sworn to them, like Manderly says he has 'a dozen petty lords and a hundred landed knights'. It was roote and wode that surprised me, I thought they were tiny houses.

Yep! I think it was mentioned in the video, but due to the geographical location of the Riverlands, they're always susceptible to being attacked. At one point, the Storm Kings conquered the Riverlands, and in turn conquered again from the Storm Kings by the Ironborn. And since the Riverlands were under Ironborn control when Aegon's Conquest began, they counted as one kingdom.
The Iron Islands aren't seen as part of the Seven Kingdoms in the current story of Game of Thrones. Whoever sits on the Iron Throne is considered the rightful ruler of the Seven Kingdoms; Current Song of Ice & Fire: North Vale Riverlands Westerlands Reach Stormlands Dorne Theon, Yara & Euron Greyjoy all state that the Iron Islands aren't really considered apart of the seven kingdoms. Aegon the Conqueror was being advised to consider either making the Iron Islands vassals to House Tully, vassals to House Lannister & some even suggested that Aegon simply kill the Iron Islanders. Aegon choose to let the Iron Islands choose who would lead them, which led to them choosing Vickon Greyjoy as First Lord of the Iron Islands.

How can one manage to control all other houses if he got lots of his own land to control? What would you choose: control other lords and get percent of their income, or deal with lots of problems coming from sh**ty peasants in the fields and getting smaller reward for it? Ruling Houses are like the top managers in the chain. They simply do not need lots of own land, because they get percent of the earnings from the other houses.
@@ScrivaTV The ruling houses conquered all the others when they built their kingdoms. Without a large number of sworn swords, and therefore personal lands, they would not have done it.
It would be one of the worst places to live. Almost everyday war is happening with surrounding warring kingdoms. They all march into your land and you don't do anything.
The Freya are the stupidest house. You're telling me nobody has built another bridge? The Tully's never used taxes to build a bridge? Lol Also any army can build a platoon, floating bridge, or a more permanent wooden bridge. The Freys and they're bridge are probably the stupidest thing in ASOIF/GOT
I hate house freys words because they remind me of house mormont. I think a better saying for house frey would be "cross us not" because the bridge they control also as a warning. It just fits better. Their words suck. Only good for the mormonts. I know, mormonts is "here we stand" but it's just too similar to freys. It bugs me 😒
well I haven't read the books so I don't know whats portrayed in there but off of what was said in the show about him being the late Walder Frey cause he didn't show up until the battler was practically won then the Blackfish and a handful of men took there Castle back from the Frey's and they had to call the Lannister to get it back and when the Lannisters got there there siege was atrocious.
They killed the Starks and captured the Tully, that is, neutralized the two great houses-the owners of the regions. What other small house has done this? Of course they are powerful.

@@JeffRB Read books, you lose a lot. The show is a faded shadow of books. And there is no idiocy, like Stannis burning his daughter. As for the Freys, the King of the North and the Trident (!) apologized and humiliated himself before the red wedding, as if he was not their overlord, but they were his. And the Freys could decide the fate of Robb's campaign if he went head-on to Tywin on the Green Prong, and they hit 4000 people in the back. And Catelyn had to squirm in front of them to get them to agree to support Robb. In front of a weak house, no one would behave like that.

Harrenhal being "cursed" makes sense.

Sometimes there is not enough lore to do so
Whenever we venture out into space and colonise exoplanets I expect to hear these stories about other planets. Except I'm not going to live forever
Wendish town is not at the border, it is in Darry lands, which is why the attack pattern of 'the mountan' makes no sense.

Joren van der ark the Darry's have a massive hard on for the targaryens so expect to see them pop up again for the arrival of Aegon or Dany
