- Ever wanted to make a dress to run through a field in? To wear in a castle? To a ball? Perhaps you want to tackle your own Prom dress or make your own costume. In this video I'll walk you through the steps of how I make my iconic princess dresses, as well as how i make my bubble sleeves.
You will need one pattern for this tutorial, the "Esplande Bra' from Orange Lingerie, or for larger sizes (up to H cup) you will need the Diamond Bustier pattern.
Esplande: www.etsy.com/l...
Diamond bustier: www.etsy.com/l...
You can use just about any material for the bodice. I am using a star embroidered mesh with a tiered tulle fabric I got on etsy.

***please note this shop is in China and will take 4-6weeks for US delivery***
Petticoats can be found on amazon! Just search Petticoat.
SLEEVE MEASUREMENTS:
For BUBBLE SLEEVES-
TWO 24"x24" fabric squares
TWO 11" x 3" Fabric rectangles for CUFFS
TWO 1/2 ribbon pieces, approx. 24" LONG
TWO pieces of 1/4" elastic approx. 9.5" (smaller upper arms use less)
OPTIONAL: additional ribbons to create additional 'bubbles'
These are very much ONE SIZE and fits plus size arms with ease.
Additional ribbons around the arm create more spaces for 'bubbles' and can be added or removed at your own discretion! go where your imagination takes you.
SKIRT MEASUREMENTS:
46" in LENGTH by 5 yards of fabric.
46" will fit average height 5'9 and UP (sorry i'm from a tall family we are tall!)
44" will fit height 5'6"
42" will fit height 5'4" and so on
GATHER all 5 yards to meet your waist. This will also allow you eenough fabric around the hem to add a 6 hoop HOOPSKIRT if you want instead!
As always, if you have any questions, go ahead and reach out

As someone who is just starting to sew and is also self-taught, you give me hope that someday I'll be able to make those dresses too. Thank you very much for this ❤️✨
badadumb I have a question? How did you start because I am also starting to learn and self taught. Do mind sharing with me how you start or where did you start learning from? Thank you 😊
@@chashmezahra3561 there is an excellent sewing channel that teaches real technique called professor pincushion. She goes over the details of many aspects of garment construction.
@@chashmezahra3561 zoe hong has lots of videos for fashion designers but they also give nice explanations about fabrics, drawings, etc.
Ila F Thank you very much for the info!😊
gigi yuzu Thank you for letting me know!😊
I’ve made one tulle circle skirt before and now I’m jumping right into this for my engagement pictures... 😬 wish me luck
How did it go? Hopefully well 😄
HOW DID IT GO
@@shannonriley1751 @Alexis The Loser If I had more time I would be done with it by now, but working on it still, I have all the pieces done just need to attach everything at this point. I still need to install the cups which were a pain to make because I couldn't find cup inserts that fit the pattern size so there was a lot of guestimating there...
@@MaddyMakesMusic hopefully it turns out amazing!🙂
Did you use a video to make your tulle skirt? If so what video because I’m struggling with my skirt :///
When I saw the thumbnail I was like « hm looks like that girl on tiktok who makes these wonderful dresses in no time » and it was actually you !! I totally want to do one now !!
I’ve been trying to find that girl 😭😭 whats her tiktok @??
@@xenstabs9567 I think it's in the description.
I’ve been sewing since I was 8 and still haven’t made anything remotely as gorgeous! So inspiring and creative! Your videos are pleasant to watch, to listen to and they make me wanna try my hand at maybe making my own fancy gown some day. Well done 👏
i think i’m going to try and make my own prom dress wish me luck
Yeah, is it going good??
Same dude
How is it going or how did it go?
Same😌
I literally scoured the internet looking for a dress for my senior prom next year (since I probably can't go this year due to corona) and I finally found your tutorial! I think I'll try this out!!!
Good luck!!!
For years I’ve walked by Joann’s and thought man that fabric is so beautiful. I wish…you your my wish the creation is to die for!
I just spent like 8 hours sewing a dog bed for my chihuahua. Hope one day I can actually be good enough to make something like this XD
Me: *wanting to make a princess dress*
Me: *knowing I can do it over time*
Me: *also knows I will never wear it*
Me: *sad that I can’t have a princess dress*
You can wear it on Halloween or any sort of convention where people usually tend to dress up, like a comic con or games con. Or simply throw a motto party with your friends 🤗
You can wear it! Simply build a time machine and go live in a castle💖 All jokes aside, you can wear it to special events🥰
As someone who wears princess dresses every even to the shops just go for it, people might judge you but you will build up a funny reputation
Im throwing a ball wanna come?
Make it for prom, birthday, or halloween
One of my friends out of state is preparing a little get together when it is allowed, and I wanted to make my own dress (since I would have to get it special ordered anyways-), so thank you for making this! I never thought of a lingerie pattern for a bodice!
After watching Enola Holmes I fell in love with old styled dresses!! I think ima ask my mom if she will help me with this :3
How did it go?
Someday i will buy myself a sewing machine coz sewing machines here r so dang expensive and hopefully i can make something like this.. u r my inspiration .. love all ur works❤️❤️
Finally! I’ve been trying to find a skirt tutorial but they’re all so complicated and require a dress form for draping and I don’t have all that. I have a sewing machine and myself. But now I think I’ve got it! Thank you!!
Using this tutorial to make my own grad dress. I didn’t know what I wanted to wear until I saw this. love it
Thank you so much for this!!!! I’m so excited to live my best princess dreams
I can’t wait to see what you make! 🥰🥰🥰
OMG I went away from Instagram for 2 months and you opened a RUclips channel? I'm so so so happy and excited to see your tutorials. You're one of the most talented sewists I've ever seen. Hoping to start my sewing journey soon ❤❤❤ Sending love from India
Thank you Sarah, thank you for making this tutorial available to everyone, in size 14 , ,I would love to one day make one in bright yellow 🟡 satin and months later make another in powder blue 🔵 satin ,or taffeta whichever is attainable , thanks Sarah you are beautiful for uploading this 👍👍😂💛💙👍
As a beginner who’s learning how to hand sew and learn measuring and sizes it really makes me already want to make a dress but my grandmother said I’m not allowed to use the sewing machine yet so I’m gonna have to use a little one she got for me to practice with, but this will definitely be the first dress I make!
i am not sure if you will see this but i love your work so much keep doing what you do
You make it seem so easy, truth is you're so talented
this actually gives me hope that i can make my own dress for at the end of school. i was gonna say i want you to make my dress but i wanna try now. wish me luck :)
Good luck!
One day I’ll have the time and money to either make my own or be able to afford to have an amazing artist like you to make a beautiful creation for me. 🥲Thank you for making your content.
This is really great I just bought a sewing machine heavy duty and I’m starting my own business in the plushy/bag region and I’m looking to expand down to things like dresses please skirts shirts and pants this really helped because I also want to make princess dresses for a little kids to these look something straight out of like a really formal occasion so a beautiful
Amazing dress. And your voice so calm to heard
I was so amazed by how pretty you make your diy dresses .. as someone also a self taught and just loving to sew diy clothes this tutorials and videos might be very handy ... Thank you soo much for sharing your ideas ... Although I don't have a machine to sew some of it, I might as well make some with the use of my mighty hands hehe I've sewn quietly a lot though☺️
So good...I loved the dresses...like a country side princess/lady dress
Ahhh I’m so excited to find your channel. I am just starting the process of making my own wedding dress and have been looking for simple ideas like this on how to make this project manageable for me. I’m binging all your videos now and following you on Instagram, thank you so so much for this content!!!
How did making your wedding dress go?
Girrrrllll you should do all the met gala dresses!!!!
I got so happy when you came up here on RUclips cause i follow you on tiktok 🥺 I recognized the dresses in the thumbnail ❤
I just started sewing ,and my dream is to one day, to be able to make princess dresses 😄.Other stuff too, but mostly dresses.
That dress is so beautiful
The bodice is beautiful and wonderfully made
I love seeing your creations on instagram and dreaming of making a dress like this myself. Thanks for your tutorials :)
I plan on starting on this dress this weekend. I’m so excited! Thank you for this tutorial
I have absolutely no experience in sewing, and I’m so bad at diy stuff, but after seeing this I really want to try.
Will probably find someone with experience and let them teach me some stuff before I attempt something like this. It really helped tho ;-;
(I legit got a needle stuck HORIZONTALLY between two fingers in 1.3 seconds. And closed my fingers up in a panic. Thank god I didn’t prick myself too hard)
This is the first of your videos I watched and, omg, your voice!!! So soothing to listen to. This is gonna be my new therapy 🙈
I am learning to sew for multiple reason the main one is that it’s going to be my moms birthday in 4 months and two days and she rlly wants this dress but it’s expensive for me to afford being just a kid so I want to learn how to sew to make it for her so thank you
The dislikes are from the people who struggled to make it
Or people who thought it was too short and a lot unsaid, which it was. Nonetheless it was still a great inspirational video.
@@TriggaTreDay So true.... Plus, I can't afford the pattern
mmmhhh btw love the name
Yay! I’ve been excitedly waiting for this tutorial 😊
I hope it helps!
Princess dresses are so Magical looking and prettyyyyy
I could see these dresses in a theatre productuin. If you made a bunch of these, and used a drawstring backing-so anyone could fit in them. I could totally see these on stage or in a movie. You do such beautiful work! My mind is totally blown. I just found you on you tube and cant wait to catch up on all your videos !!!
ooooooh it looks so so beautiful!! I would simply never take it off or show it to everyone if I owned it!
These are so pretty!
If only I had the confidence to wear them or money to make them!
I'm going to try and make my own prom dress!!
I came from tiktok! Thank you for this!!!
I could order the dresses for myself right away..it's beautiful 😘😘😘😘🤗🤗🤗😊😊😊☺️☺️☺️😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰😚😚😚🤩🤩🤩🥳🥳😚😚😚😱😱😱😲😯😫😫💝💝💝💖💖💖💖💖💟💟💟💟💟
this is wonderful! I have a question, is the tulle that you use for the bodice a strong mesh, like corset mesh? or a normal (non-stretch?) tulle? Or do you double it up with a corset mesh for structure?
For this netting it is a non stretch mesh that I doubled with a nylon bra lining (which is also a corset mesh) in the same color!
@@officialhambly thank you!
Its so cute good job its lovely 😍😍😍
My god! Your sewing machine is so amazing.. never know it before, except on this channel. Just can dreaming to have it :')

Could you make a video dedicated to the skirt? Would love to make my own with a step by step process😍💕
Im using this as a base for my yr 12 ball dress 🎉
You’re extremely talented
This was very helpful, thanks for the tutorial! :)
😍so pretty
Very gorgeous and awesome.
I’m barely starting to learn how to do all of this, generally. And your channel is a blessing, cause' I always wanted to learn, but I thought I couldn’t do it, and you just make me think I actually can and you give me an option, since is self taught, is easier for me
Good work dear
I'll definitely make this for my birthday 🎂
I love your dresses and designs
CUTE DRESS
Hey Sarah, I'm wondering how many metres of that skirt fabric from etsy did you need? I'm also really interested in the quality of it! This dress turned out so pretty!
I purchased the 5 yard bundle of it, and it came really stiff so you will need to steam it (with a steamer or hung in the shower with hot water running nearby) to get the softness back to the material. But the quality is really nice, and it photographs nicely as well
Can I make this with a solid opaque fabric like cotton or linen or is it better to use a tulle? And if it does work using this, is it better to use a stiffer fabric or something more flowy (and what are your recommendations)? Also you say "regular standard zipper." How long is that? And do you sew it to both the skirt and the bodice, just the skirt, or just the bodice - and how? Sorry for all the questions haha. 💗
you can absolutely make this with a cotton or linen, just make sure to follow the grain lines on the cup portion! Once you've sewn the skirt to the bodice, you'll have an opening in the back-I like to use a 22/23" zipper in the backfor closure
@@officialhambly Thank you so much!!
Do you have a video of making the flowery dress in he thumbnail? It's so gorgeous!
is there a place where i can read a detailed way of making the sleeves?? i am in the process of making a big dress and need those kinds of sleeves...love your work ^^
I'm working on writing one up now!
I love this so much ❤️
Very lovely, make a video on how to make the skirt ruffles please
So pretty
I would pay for this 😍
It's okay if you don't have an arm you can always make yours by regular 2pc jacket sleeves pattern, this what they told me when i was starting with the basics in our school
Thanks for this tutorial. Can you please share more in detail how you made the ruffles for the skirt? It looks like a lot of layers and did you get the tulle into strips? Looking forward to hearing from you. Clarify, skirt measurement: Purchase 5 yards of 46" width fabric depending how tall you are?
most fabric is about 58" in width, so you cut the width to however tall you are!
I love this! If you were to have the sleeves attached does anyone know how that could be done?
you could easily attach the sleeves with a tack stitch right where the bra cup meets the side of the bodice near your armpit! a few little handsewn stitches will do the trick
So So Beautiful ❣❣
I will surely make its vlog after a year!!
Can you make a video on the petticoat?
Wish you would do these vids longer xx
This is incredible!! How much time would you say it would take a beginner to make something like this?
It took me about 8 hours spread over two days so I would give yourself a week to work on it! Don’t be afraid to put it down and come back to it later ❤️
Hey do you have a video on how to measure and create your own pattern cause with starting from scratch and know nothing about sewing 😅 I love all your projects keep posting 🥰
I'm so happy you made this tutorial, no one else explains how to make this! How would you make the dress with the same top and sleeves but with just a full/flowy skirt instead of the ruffles?
This is amazing!!! Can I ask what you did to close the top in the back? Did you use the hooks like the pattern seems to use or did you do something else like a corset back?
I see a little cape thing in the back what is that and what is that attached to? My friend has a met gala themed bday party that id like to be as extra as possible for so the cape piece is perfect!!
MAKING YOUR OWN PRINCESS DRESS love
Woah i must have missed it, I didn't know you had a youtube channel!!
This is so amazing !!!
OMG it's so beautiful do you make custom dresses??? I would like to buy this in my size it's literally the best looking dress I've seen in a while!!!
Beautiful
This is gorgeous🤩 I love the skirt fabric! Is it available on a website like Etsy?
yup! the link in the description should lead right to it!
Gorgeous!!!
Attempting this for my daughters school gala/dance. Saw this and instantly was inspired, it’s on my mind I gotta create it now lol I am wondering for the bodice what’s a decent fabric to use?
Found ur RUclips channel!!!! I just got back from finding u on tik tok
It's lovely. How did you learn to sew? Where did you get the dress form?
