@@brooklynrichardson854 I didn't put tulle inside the skirt, mostly because the skirt was so big that adding tulle would make it really difficult to move around in ;D. You can add tulle if you want by all means, but trust me when I say the skirt is big anyway :) Edit: Also, mine is this big when I used half the fabric (my longest tier is 5 yards long instead of 10).

"there's no rule saying you can't wear pants" oh sweet, sweet Micarah..... my high school would hold fashion shows during every lunch period whenever hoco/prom/etc was coming up, showing everybody exactly what we could and couldn't wear to attend😬
@@amyshort5625 this was like, 2013-2016, we had a "mall" area along with the cafeteria that was used for lunch purposes, so the student gov kids would like turn on the PA system for that area and do a whole dumb schpeal and fashion show about what length your dress had to be, what kind it could/couldn't be (for hoco one year they literally brought out a girl in like a really nice/"fancy" looking sundress and said it was a hard "no"), why boys couldn't show up in jeans and a polo, what kind of dress pants they should have, what kind of shoes .... they'd take up the whole lunch period with it, it was really stupid and annoying
Wow fashion police. I'm so happy I never went to a prom. It's just not my thing, dressing up and dancing are not activities I enjoy. I wanted a small cheap wedding but HE had to have a big party, and made me plan it and pay for it and didn't even dance with me. Last time I do that.
@@recoveringsoul755 that's how it was my prom, my boyfriend at the time was all upset/in a 'tude because i didn't want the million stupidly posed pictures his mom wanted to take, and i dont smile for pictures either, and then he wouldnt dance with me, all he'd do is complain about how i'd rather be there with my only guy friend, that i'd have more fun with him, blah blah blah, we left like an hour early and fought in the car in a mcdonalds parking lot over his whiny bs🙄😒 if i thought i was gonna have more fun there with my guy bff, i wouldve just asked him to go, my bf didnt even wanna go to prom!
Micarah is the ONLY RUclipsR ON EARTH who makes sponsored ads interesting and fun to watch. It is a skill *edit Thank you so much for all the likes! I’ve never had a comment with this many likes before 😂
When gathering, your life will be easier if you stitch two lines, 1/8” apart, then just pull both threads at the same time. It’s twice as much sewing but when your thread breaks you have a backup+it holds a consistent gather much easier!
The chaos of a custom skirt pattern on the floor is incredibly uncomfy. This is the kind of character development I need and only this channel can provide.
My prom is Saturday, but my dad made me a custom suit out of the really pretty floral fabric I liked! And a custom bow tie for me too!! He’s pretty great
I love the new hair paired with the green suit! I can’t quite pin down the exact vibes but it’s somewhere between (stylish!!) eighties business tycoon and Natasha Romanoff. The overall result is like a personal injury lawyer who I would trust with my wardrobe AND kidneys
I hope you know your channel is the reason I decided to whip out my sewing machine and have a caffeine fueled two days to make my bestfriend (younger than me so not my grad year) a prom dress since covid hit and she couldn’t get one at the time. Your videos always make me want to sew again and genuinely helped us, so thank you :)
I went to prom under duress after a very uncomfortable promposal situation (VERY long story), at which I sat in the corner and read a book for an hour and a half before I called my dad begging him to take me home and he had mercy on me and picked me up. Watching this video was much more fun.
@@lynndoesntexist it’s not a very fun story … I had a male friend throughout high school who confessed that he liked me before senior year, and I ended up kind of going out with him for a bit. He was much more interested in the relationship than I was, but I had frighteningly low self-esteem at that point in my life and so the idea that someone was into me romantically was so impossibly exciting that I convinced myself that I liked him even though I realize now I never really did- I would have rather remained friends. It especially got awkward when he wanted to go … *ahem* … farther with the relationship- he didn’t try to pressure me or anything, he was very respectful and backed off/never brought it up again when I told him I wasn’t comfortable with that, but just knowing that that was where his mind was at really stressed me out. I had been trying to figure out how to end it when halfway through senior year my grandmother died very suddenly and my mental health took a nosedive, and so I let the relationship go on even longer because it was taking everything in me to just function. All of this came to a head when about a month before prom he surprised me at lunch in front of all our friends with flowers and balloons and asked me to prom. He was so excited and literally everyone was there, so I couldn’t tell him no, even though I didn’t want to go to prom at all, much less romantically with him. I have really bad social anxiety (which he knew, so I don’t know why he thought this would be a good idea for me) and I ended up being late to class because I was having a panic attack in the bathroom. I should have texted him that night and told him I didn’t want to go, but I was a coward about it and waited until the week before prom to finally attempt to explain things to him (at this point the situation had been so stressful for me that I had been physically making myself sick over it), and we still ended up going, but didn’t hang out together at all during it and like I said I left early because I was so uncomfortable. I still feel really guilty about the whole thing to this day- he was a really nice guy and he meant well, I was just an absolute mess senior year. He deserved much better. So yeah, not a super fun story 😅
I just found your page and now Im addicted. I thank you for giving me a reason to procrastinate cleaning the kitchen! 🤪 I love your bird, we have a gold capped conure. Be careful with candles the soot it burns off can be dangerous to out feather babies.
8:31 Great. Now after this un-intencional Ariel glittery sea dress moment I need Micarah making a video where she basically makes a Little Mermaid lookbook and YES SHE NEED TO MAKE THAT PINK DRESS if she's going to make it historically accurate or not it's up to her to decide hope it's not asking too much Anyways... Love u Micarah 💖
Surprisingly, the green dress was my favorite? But maybe that's just because I love the color. They were all amazing. I am also partial to Border Collies, but all dogs are amazing. In conclusion, Micarah designs amazing dogs.
Too bad I didn't have this 15 years ago when I was needing a prom dress (sad to admit that number lol) but I'm definitely using the green dress as a reference to make myself a summer dress for this year... awesome video, as always.
Hand sanitizer will get the marker off super easy! I promise. Its worked on everything I've tried. Also, love your video! Spot on with the sense of humor, bird, dress styles, fabric and colors! And you have a lovely voice and sense of style. Thank you for sharing!
Micarah THANK YOU for actually including those fabric measurements for the skirt!! I’ve been wanting to make my own skirt for ballet folklorico and the tiered skirt is the exact kind I’ve been wanting to make. I just need to tie that in with a perfect circle skirt pattern and then I’m set! I’m also using this to make my own costume for Halloween this year. ❤️
My favourite dress was the silver one, unfortunately I already got a formal (that’s what Australians call prom) dress but it’s always a blast to watch you haphazardly make amazing dresses
Micarah, can we talk about how great your personal fashion is in this video? The beret look was my favorite you wore ❤️. Gereon was looking pretty dapper himself.
"There's no rule against not wearing a dress." I laugh sadly because there was such a rule when I was in high school (late 2000's). They literally said you have to wear a dress, unless you were a lesbian going to prom with your girlfriend. I'm sure they've since changed that rule, but it was still effed up at the time.
Wait they were saying all girls had to wear dresses unless they were a lesbian couple? Then they could wear a suit or something? Did they fucking police sexuality like you had to fill out a goddamn sexuality and dating form before prom?
I graded in 2012 and I joined the grad fashion show. The teacher would not let me wear a tux for the show and said I had to wear a dress. I felt robbed.
My sewing is far closer to the math-driven pattern analysis of Cathy Hay, the drafting of Bianca Esposito, and the stitching detail of Bernadette Banner and Nicole Rudolph. None of that prevents me in the slightest from thoroughly enjoying your videos. My Ukranian grandmother did not use patterns at all - they didn't exist where and when she was a girl in the early 20th century, and even if they had been available there was no money to buy them. In 1960s Canada they were affordable for her but she couldn't be bothered: she looked at some of them, took a mental picture of those she liked, and left the pattern in the store. She sewed the way you do: lay the fabric out on the floor and then cut the required shapes. It always amazed me to watch her. While she could use my mother's 1955-vintage Singer electric she still preferred her treadle machine. Your ironing board is also identical to hers; the only other one I've ever seen. She saw no reason to acquire new equipment when there was nothing wrong with the old.
I clicked on this bc of the beautiful purple dress in the thumbnail and I was not disappointed in the slightest bit! It is absolutely GORGEOUS and I wish I could redo my matric ball but with this dress and a lot less burnout and stress, I literally just wore a dress that my friend gave me that was too small for her and some cheap jewellery and shoes with my usual hairstyle to the ball and I wish I'd given it more attention and that wasn't too exhausted to care at that time... but y'know what? I'm gonna learn to sew and make all of these dresses, starting with the purple one and wear them as and when I please because life is too short to not wear the pretty prom dresses of your dreams whenever you want to. Thank you for this, I absolutely love these dresses!!!
All the dresses were beautiful as always, but as a notable lover of huge skirts, I have to say the purple one was my favorite. Also the eye makeup with the outfit that had the hat looked super good.
I thought it over and I've decided to go to prom this Saturday, so I'm watching this video over and over again for tips. I've wanted to make a dress for myself at least once in my life so why not now! Please wish me luck in my dress-making experience! EDIT: I couldn't make it in time because the machine was being a bit of a butt and my mom was at a church-service-retreat kinda thing so I couldn't ask her. I plan to modify the design a bit and hopefully wear it for my high school graduation next Saturday! EDIT 2: Ayyyee it's me from '23! For anyone wondering, I wore a dress I already had instead. Prom was mid, and not really worth the $25-30 ticket (can't remember). Seeing my friends was the only redeeming quality lol 👍🏼
😮 oh I’m sorry! I knew this was going to happen from the beginning. I’m sure you’re not alone with this. There really should be a disclaimer - no shade to the creator. It’s just a fact that these types of ´tutorials’ aren’t really for those beginning to make their own clothes. That could be stated clearer, imo. Particularly, considering it’s a video targeting high school/young people. It’s mostly entertainment. It’s so nice that you’re inspired by it, though! It takes MUCH less time for her than any beginner could realistically complete it in. More like a month than an hour. This is an unreasonable expectation. All the time frames given are of her own abilities with a LOT of practice making her own clothing. The difficulty level for these isn’t ranked or broken down. It’s a great entertainment, good fun and she gives little shortcuts and sewing hacks/tips. It’s just not a great place to start. There are some really helpful sites for sewing tutorials, Q & A groups for help and advice that are especially helpful. If you (or anyone) wants, I’ll link you a few. I really REALLY hope you stay inspired and develop your skills! It’s wonderful that you tried! ❤ That was really brave! I’d definitely love seeing updates on your progress! Most of the time we only see people who are skilled with thousands of sewing hours invested. It can be discouraging for people starting out to compare their abilities with people who have been sewing for years. The beginner sees only the results of skilled designers without seeing how they become that way. It’s just unrealistic. You know, It might be a great niche for a vlogging channel! If you keep sewing, posting progress to show actual skill acquisition! I mean, if you were interested in making a channel on it. I’d definitely subscribe! Cheers! Belated Congratulations on graduating and starting your sewing journey (IF you decide it’s right for you)!
So glad you uploaded! Even tho I cannot sew to save my life, I love watching these videos Edit: she looks GORGEOUS in all of these dresses and I will definitely be stealing them from her
I'll show my mom this because she makes sewing sound like war and you might loosen her up a little (she loves sewing but she panics whenever things aren't perfectly measured)
What sort of stuff does your mum make? If it’s corsets or anything fitted or stiff fabric then I kinda get it because the measurements do need to be *exact*. But yeah micarah’s stretchy fabrics / liberal use of elastic and zip ties do make things more chill
@@tacosmexicanstyle7846 she recently did a quite detailed work on an expensive dress, so I can understand that part, but rn she’s working with a forgiving fabric and still stressing her butt off about measurements😭😭 may she rest peacefully during the nights, that stress isn’t good for her😖
I'm the same as your mom because my body measurements aren't easy to work with and I want my clothes to last and look professional and as much as Micarah is one of my fav youtubers of all time it still stresses me out to see how she does it haha it ends up working but I'm not sure the clothes would look good if worn super regularly without any proper stabilizing, and clean edges but it's ok because they're usually one time thing garments and the goal is to have fun and it is fun to watch but I also understand your mom even if we really need to chill indeed
I was homeschooled so yeah I never went to prom but as a college student who has two banquets with fancy dresses per year and honestly just enjoying the content of your channel, this inspires me to want to take up sewing my own clothes and dresses 😍
just in case anyone doesn’t know how to take off permanent marker (coming from someone who has made this mistake) use a dry erase marker on it and like scribble all over the permanent part then it should just come off might take a few tries but it should work 👍 also measurements give me life lol
last was my fave almost exclusively bc of how the fabric was shiny in all the perfect places it looked dreamy 🥰 also 1) german shepherds and 2) put a rug over it so you still have the floor pattern for next time
I actually loved the bonus dress the most. The fabric is my favorite color, it's shiny, the cut is amazing, and the old Hollywood vibes are incredible.
My friend and I took a sewing class in highschool because it's where all the girls were. I never really kept up with fabric stuff, but I sew leather(for car stuff u dirty dog), and I found my way here through your RV vid. I've never rewound or slowed down videos so much, but i've also never been rewarded with comedy gold and easter eggs so much for doing so. Top notch ADHD psycho-tier content.
I'm actually sewing my prom dress myself and already started a months ago and was really happy to see that you did a pretty similar dress (the first one, the blue one) to see how you would do it 😅. But my fabric isn't streachy, it's satin, so I'll have to do it a bit differently. But your version inspired me to do one thing differently on my dress. So thank you for this video 🤗.
I would say add darts to the front under-bust area and a zipper on the back to combat the lack of stretch. Also satin has a directional sheen so make sure you cut your pieces all going in the same way if you have enough fabric to do so. Best of luck 😊
This is so perfect because I was making my sisters prom dress and you uploaded this and the 3 tiered skirt is the exact same as a reference photo she gave me. I will definitely be using your idea!! Thanks so much
I couldn't wear anything showing midriff, and I don't have enough up top to fill that out. My best feature has always been my legs, so I'd wear full coverage on the front, sometimes backless dresses because I didn't need a bra, and show some leg. But I don't like dances so I avoid them
I never went to prom in high school and would literally never have an occasion to wear these dresses, but I just love watching the process of how things are made. Plus Mikarah is awesome.
Same here. I disliked high school immensely, but I look at the DIY nature of things today and it's fun to watch. I'm rather happy that I have no bad prom photos, styles in the 80s were questionable.
Even tho I never made any of your tutorials, you gave me the confidence that I would be able to sew. A year later and I am actually making my own 'prom' dress
Micarah, I want you to feel validated because I came back LOOKING for this video! I remembered how you made that purple dress and it was the only tutorial that made sense to me! I'm now adapting it to be a long skirt but it'll be my first official sewing project!
OMG that 3rd dress!!! As someone who JUST entered homeschool the year I'd finally be able to go to prom, and thus not being able to go to prom, I am definetly making that 3rd prom dress for the purpose of dancing around in my room in.
Homeschool proms are a thing! Many organizations hold them. I wasn't able to go because my mom hated being a part of said organization and also the plague, but they do exist!
@@PrincessSakurasSideshow Of course! Look for things like Homeschool Idaho (the one in my area). There will probably be some group that handles graduations and they usually hold a banquet/formal for the graduating class. And if it seems no one is holding one, you might be able to arrange it yourself!
Former History teacher here, and I ❤ you Micarah, but I gotta correct you at 18:35- there were no "witches" burned in Salem (or at anytime in America). All of the accused were hung, except Giles Corey who was pressed to death. Awesome video, per usual. Please keep up the amazing and entertaining work!!
your dad is such a gem. i always love his special appearances. also my favorite dog breed is probably dachshund just because when I take a moment to consider that they’re literally shaped like hot dogs it just makes me smile so much
tip for removing sharpie from polished wood (and any plastic-y surface): draw over the sharpie line with a dry erase marker and then wipe it off; hasnt failed for me yet... (if youre unsure if the marker will wipe off, test it with a small dot ofc)
In this day and age, what people find funny goes over my head, but you're the first random person whose humour I actually get lol. I have put off sewing for so long, but you have motivated me to start. You are extremely talented!

For when you don't need cleaning advice: rubbing alcohol gets permanent marker off of glass. Just in case your hardwood floor is made out of glass.
Also off of aluminum plates, in case your hardwood is made of aluminum :)
Or use an expo marker….it also works to get permanent marker off of things in my experience
Cracked me up
What also works is an eraser for things like tables and stuff, at least in my experience
Denatured alcohol takes permanent marker off of polyurethane floors. $5 at any hardware store. Just try a little with a paper towel first to make sure you have the right kind of floor.

"there's no rule saying you can't wear pants" oh sweet, sweet Micarah..... my high school would hold fashion shows during every lunch period whenever hoco/prom/etc was coming up, showing everybody exactly what we could and couldn't wear to attend😬
Wait? What year? Lol
You opened a door I didnt know was there lmao we did that too at my high school! 😆🤣🤣🤣
It is a skill
*edit
Thank you so much for all the likes! I’ve never had a comment with this many likes before 😂
I disagree, a lot of youtubers are good at making ads interesting. It's like a talent :D
More like a skill-SHARE
@@susanjoyce4244 you are a legend
Literally stopped and said "There was a sponsorship??" for a a good 10 seconds so yeah I agree
She's the only youtuber that I don't skip for ads 😂
I never skip your sponsorships because you make them worth watching. Not just telling us what we need to know but you make it fun.
Omg she’s fabulous! I almost want to resent her for it…
Ok?
When gathering, your life will be easier if you stitch two lines, 1/8” apart, then just pull both threads at the same time. It’s twice as much sewing but when your thread breaks you have a backup+it holds a consistent gather much easier!
The chaos of a custom skirt pattern on the floor is incredibly uncomfy. This is the kind of character development I need and only this channel can provide.
my jaw genuinely dropped
My prom is Saturday, but my dad made me a custom suit out of the really pretty floral fabric I liked! And a custom bow tie for me too!! He’s pretty great
That sounds amazing!
That’s awesome!
Omg I’m jealous 😍😍
I love the new hair paired with the green suit! I can’t quite pin down the exact vibes but it’s somewhere between (stylish!!) eighties business tycoon and Natasha Romanoff. The overall result is like a personal injury lawyer who I would trust with my wardrobe AND kidneys
YES i love that outfit
Sam from totally spies vibes
I hope you know your channel is the reason I decided to whip out my sewing machine and have a caffeine fueled two days to make my bestfriend (younger than me so not my grad year) a prom dress since covid hit and she couldn’t get one at the time. Your videos always make me want to sew again and genuinely helped us, so thank you :)
I went to prom under duress after a very uncomfortable promposal situation (VERY long story), at which I sat in the corner and read a book for an hour and a half before I called my dad begging him to take me home and he had mercy on me and picked me up. Watching this video was much more fun.
if you're willing, can you tell us the story? i'm curious about that promposal. I'm not a fan of them personally but I do have time to hear your story
Yes we want to hear that story ! :)
Cozy! I'm following your Tumblr!!!! Hi!!!! It's kinda crazy that I see you here out of all the comments, on all the videos I watch

8:31 Great. Now after this un-intencional Ariel glittery sea dress moment I need Micarah making a video where she basically makes a Little Mermaid lookbook and YES SHE NEED TO MAKE THAT PINK DRESS if she's going to make it historically accurate or not it's up to her to decide

Anyways... Love u Micarah 💖

DO IT MICARAH
Surprisingly, the green dress was my favorite? But maybe that's just because I love the color. They were all amazing.
I am also partial to Border Collies, but all dogs are amazing.
In conclusion, Micarah designs amazing dogs.
It looked great with her hair!
Yes border collies are the best 😄
I don't really care for green as a color, but it was also my favorite dress.
Careful hand sanitizer is alcohol and alcohol is a paint thinner for water base paints so it can mar some finishes.
The purple one is literally Micarah’s best work. Like it looks designer
Awesome! So happy I could be of some help 😊
When I saw the skirt I thought the exact same thing!!! Good luck faldeando!
Hi! I have a question how would adjust the skirt for height? When you are 5’1 you have a bit of trouble with length.
My favourite dress was the silver one, unfortunately I already got a formal (that’s what Australians call prom) dress but it’s always a blast to watch you haphazardly make amazing dresses
Who said you need a formal event to make a formal dress ?
micarah is the only person who could make me watch a sponsorship add and i would totally enjoy it

10:49 silver dress
15:52 poof purple dress

Micarah, can we talk about how great your personal fashion is in this video? The beret look was my favorite you wore ❤️. Gereon was looking pretty dapper himself.

You're reckless disregard of patterns and measuring gives me more confidence in making whatever I want
"There's no rule against not wearing a dress."
I laugh sadly because there was such a rule when I was in high school (late 2000's).
Wow I'm so shocked so wait they were fine with lesbian couples but not with girls wearing trousers?? Wild!
I graded in 2012 and I joined the grad fashion show. The teacher would not let me wear a tux for the show and said I had to wear a dress. I felt robbed.
Wait what that's so weird
why i never got to go to any fun memory making vaguely celebratory event as a trans guy and now i have nothing to look back on
Everybody who is too old for prom, let's make the dresses and throw a party of only Micarah's dresses from this video :) Amazing video as always😍

I feel like Micarah enters a new fashion style every time she posts a new video and I'm sooo here for it
Micarah’s personality is quite literally unmatched, I just want to be her friend
Can we talk about how absolutely stunning Micarah is in those fabulous dresses. I do not regret subscribing and hitting the bell.
right omg, also I recently started my own channel and id appreciate if you checked it out :) !
She is totally stunning!
As an Australian, I can confirm “crikey I’m being attacked by a crocodile!” Is the most common way to say goodbye in my country 😌
Also an Aussie, yea agreed 😆
Hey I’m a bit late, but you only live once right? So I would go for it! Good luck!
Good Luck! 🦋✨✨✨
What happened.. need another update

Hahaha same! I’m good with a safety pin and scissors though 😅
Is she pregnant?? There is a lot of baby references in the video .
@@PalominoPrincess143 no. People just keep asking her if she is. I'm pretty sure she's waiting for marriage anyway.
I'll show my mom this because she makes sewing sound like war and you might loosen her up a little (she loves sewing but she panics whenever things aren't perfectly measured)
Wonder how that one will go?
What sort of stuff does your mum make? If it’s corsets or anything fitted or stiff fabric then I kinda get it because the measurements do need to be *exact*. But yeah micarah’s stretchy fabrics / liberal use of elastic and zip ties do make things more chill
@@tacosmexicanstyle7846 she recently did a quite detailed work on an expensive dress, so I can understand that part, but rn she’s working with a forgiving fabric and still stressing her butt off about measurements😭😭 may she rest peacefully during the nights, that stress isn’t good for her😖
"makes sewing sound like war" 🤣 I don't know why that made me absolutely crack up, but it did!
Using a Snickers and a Lake Erie walleye as measurements is far superior to both imperial and metric. Love it.
“your probably just zendaya looking for her next red carpet look”

last was my fave almost exclusively bc of how the fabric was shiny in all the perfect places it looked dreamy 🥰 also 1) german shepherds and 2) put a rug over it so you still have the floor pattern for next time

The silver dress with the handless gloves looked PHENOMENAL on you. Wow!!
I actually loved the bonus dress the most. The fabric is my favorite color, it's shiny, the cut is amazing, and the old Hollywood vibes are incredible.
Your dad picked out a good hair color. It's lasting well.
My kids and I love your videos. Many thanks.

@@jayneterry8701 yeah. I think her last episode was her dad coloring her hair. He picked the color too
I LOVED that green dress! I wish I was so talented that I could just whip something up like that in two hours
Talent might help, but what getting good at sewing really requires PRACTICE. So, get some cheap fabric and start sewing!
I know right! I'm actually in high school but my mom won't let me buy a sewing machine. Can't wait to be an adult and rebel by buying my own :')
But I don't like dances so I avoid them
that's so cool! awesome that you sew your sister's dress!
I can't quite figure out what is going on with your profile picture and it is killing me--

Same here. I disliked high school immensely, but I look at the DIY nature of things today and it's fun to watch. I'm rather happy that I have no bad prom photos, styles in the 80s were questionable.
i'm rewatching this after watching your ren-fair video, and it's safe to say that the new sewing machine actually came in handy.

Micarah, I want you to feel validated because I came back LOOKING for this video! I remembered how you made that purple dress and it was the only tutorial that made sense to me! I'm now adapting it to be a long skirt but it'll be my first official sewing project!
