Man, look at that Bulls starting lineup and look how many open shots they missed. Other than Oakley, who was just a rebounder, the two rookies, Pippen and Grant, came in and played with more heart. Hearn, "Pippen will need to work on his defense, he got beat by Worthy and Green multiple times" oh yeah, but according Pippen nowadays he was setting the league on fire his first year (8th on the team was killing it). They had lost to the Lakers in LA 2 months ago, Jordan had 39 (only 3 others had more than 8). Here he had 38pts, 9rebs, 7asts, 3stls, but 5 others had double digits to help, funny how when folks hit open shots how that works.

Notice when they mentioned the average salaries of the NBA All-Stars, it was $1.3m. Also notice they talked about MJ playing 40 minutes per and Magic wanting to play because people paid their money to see him play. Those are the differences between the NBA then and today.

Meh - there's nothing wrong with people making as much as they can make.
They simply choose not to care today. Real competitors would be going at it, no matter how much they made.

People wonder why Michael couldn't beat teams like the Celtics or Lakers in the 80's? Just take a look at what Michael had to work with Phil Sellers, Dave Corzine, Sam Vincent as starters. I'd be taking most of the shots too if i had talent like that to work with.

The GOAT of teams! People don't realize the context of many of these videos. Especially in the winter months, the season drags on especially on the road. As champions, EVERY team is getting up for you and the arenas will feel like the playoffs on almost every night.
Its not an excuse for the loss of course, but it's not like anyone is circling their date on the calendar when playing the Bulls those years. Riley will even do his rotations different.

I love how Detroit fans assume that if they won in 88, it's a given they'd win in 89 and 90.
It would've changed the trajectory of both the Lakers and Pistons. Lakers likely would've came back hungrier or even more retooled and that might have meant they win in 89 or 90. Also changes the hunger of Detroit and their need to trade Dantley. The offense flowed better with Aguirre.
