The real Bangles, before that popular MTV, comercial driven music (which I loved, by the way), but this is the true Bangles, pure rock. And this song is awsome. No wonder Prince noticed them through this song and offered them "Manic Monday". Here Michael's bass line, Vicki's guitar lead, Debbi's awsome drumming and Susanna's beautiful and unique voice
The Bangles definitely had some beyond great moments. But for me maybe this was their greatest. Susanna playing Vicki's guitar was absolutely amazing. All four of them were one hundred percent on their A game that night.
They always 'rocked' so much more live than on record. I used to love that bit when Susanna would play Vickie's guitar in the middle of the song! So good....
I have always liked the Bangles for their music, but these live gigs really make me fall in love with them. Such extraordinary musicians and live performers! Amazing 🙂🙃🙂
i know this is a year too late but...i totally agree with you. Michael is/was their best musician by far. shes a great bass player. her playiong on the song "im not talking" blows me away.
Vicki is also a hell of a guitar player. I think there was a huge gap after Michael and VIcki. That being said, Suzie is a hell of a songwriter. She wrote most of the hits.
Can't be outdone- Vicki is on fire, Debbi pounding the shit out of those drums, Sue sounds great, and Micki;s got "that walk" going on..... Out of a 10, I give it a 15 !!!!!!
Hell yeah. There are a lot of men bands that aren't as good as these 4 girls, or take too long in guitar solos. I prefer to listen short nice solos than 4-5 minutes solos (or sometimes even longer).
What I love about this show is that for one, instrumentally, they were on freakin point! All of them. Two, you could tell they were having a blast. Hard work paying off. This of course was before guys in suits tried to pit them against one another.
Too damn bad it worked, eh? Yer right....they be smokin'. I had no idea, until recently, how damn good they were live...this sh*t was incredible. Shame on me....
Thanks for sharing these videos. I've loved the Bangles for years, but never heard this great concert. ...They were the greatest female pop band recorded. IMHO. But they were great rock'n'roll live.
That's a great band on top of their game having a great time. Love , Love, LOVE the dueling guitar solo jam. Great sound with an awesome visual. Killer vocals, superb harmonies, driving groove and great fun!
Listen to any of their live, early stuff! These ladies rock! It's much harder than the studio stuff would lead you to think. Micheal was a great addition, but Vicki and Deb always rocked! Now don't think I would ever take anything away from the lovely Susanna; after all, I loved her since I first heard her sexy voice. Seeing her sideways glance still makes my heart skip a beat!
It's just not fair that one female should be so brutally gorgeous, AND plays a Ric. And sings like an angel. Susanna Hoffs, you are flawless. All the Bangles are extremely attractive, I've just been partial to Susanna for 35 years.
Final Note from a musical standpoint, THIS was their best song, lyrically, musically, balance, tone, groove, heart and soul. This is the Bangles Swan Song OOO Yeah
This is the sing that introduced me to The Bangles, I heard it somewhere or another and didn't know they were an all-girl band, just that it was a great melody, excellent harmony, driving rhythm, and first class lyrics.
I made a mistake in showing my 13 year old son this video as an example of just how hot the women in the '80s could be. The next day... ...he had entered puberty.
@@fredflintstone2958 Am always watching her... but I really wonder tho.. how she got so close to the audience that time around . If you notice, she backs away from the mike most, if not all the times when she's not singing. The crowd loved that move.
All of these RUclipss vids of this concert are just so heavy. They should have been more popular than they were. Great songwriting ability ...... PLUS THEY PLAY ALL OF THEIR INSTRUMENTS.
Michael Steele! I really admire her beauty. She's a one-of-a-kind beauty. The prettiest among them! and I like how she plays the bass. Perfect! She's a whole package! Her voice is big and beautiful too! iT's funny and beautiful how the crowd liked the way she went to them!
The band broke up just a few years later after Susanna was singled out as the “star” of the band. This caused a rift between the band members for a long time. Thank goodness they reconciled and got back together.
On this day in 1984 {August 25th} the Bangles performed "Hero Takes A Fall" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'... The song peaked at #96 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart, it did not make Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart... Between 1986 and 1989 the Los Angeles quartet had eight records on the Top 100 chart, four made the Top 10 with two reaching #1, "Walk Like An Egyptian" for 4 weeks on December 14th, 1986 and "Eternal Flame" for 1 week on March 26th, 1989... Their other two Top 10 records both peaked at #2*, "Manic Monday" for 1 week in April of 1986 and "Hazy Shade of Winter" for 1 week in February of 1988... * The week that "Manic Monday was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "Kiss" by Prince and the Revolution; and the week that "Hazy Shade of Winter" was at #2, the record in the top spot for that week was"Could've Been" by Tiffany...

Annoying isn't it? We have this righteous rock band, they are tight and hot in concert, they have the best female vocal mix since the Ron fkn nettes, and they go into the studio and we get baby food shite on the record. Sometimes bands get horribly unlucky with their production. Bangles is one.
@BeccaGSD I am speaking, of course, that Michael was "added" by joining Vicki, Debbi, and Sue after Annette left the band. They were officially the Bangles then (shortly after changing from the Bangs). So Michael was added; bringing with her a ton of talent and performance cred from her time with the Runaways. You'll be hard pressed to find a live performance better than this one. They really rocked this song!
They were never given enough credit for how good they were live. And god…Micki was cool AF.
Note Sue and Micki had jackets on earlier in the show.
