      Good God.
Hard to believe it's 34 (now 36 almost) years ago.
I recall that this song took off like a rocket in 1986, and felt kind of like a standard all by itself.
And oh yes. Any guess as to which "garment" that might have been, aimed so perfectly for such a soft landing precisely on that mic stand? The heavenly bliss of live.

This song illustrates one of the Bangles most, IMO, underappreciated strengths. Yes, Susanna became sort of the "face" of the Bangles later, but any one of them could lead a song and the others would provide perfect, harmonious backing vocals. Even though Debbie doesn't get to sing on this one, the lead going between the other three demonstrates it.

She been through it, dealing with divas and a lowlife manager with The Runaways, then playing for various groups, then dealing with more divas and close knit sisters in The Bangles. She says she struggled with demands and pressures of touring. With her disappearance, you wonder if she has had bi-polar issues to deal with.

At the time of this performance, Saturday, 12/13/86, “Walk Like an Egyptian” had just reached No. 1 on the Hot 100! In the newly published issue of Billboard magazine, for the week ending 12/20/86, it became the first No. 1 by an all female band. The Go-Go’s had gotten to No. 2 with “We Got the Beat” in 1982, but the Bangles were the first to go all the way.
And to date, the only other No. 1 by a female band has been “Eternal Flame” by ... you know who. That Bangles ballad spent the week ending 4/1/89 at the top.

Hell men don't even really play anymore its sad... Unfortunately its not about the music, talent, creativity or self expression...its ONLY about selling records and greedy dollar bills...

And I remember that the girls in my school class didn’t like the Bangles. They loved Depeche Mode and they were jealous that suddenly we boys had our own female Depeche Mode :-)) Too bad I never saw the Bangles live, cause - as we can see in these videos of Pittsburgh - they were rocking harder on stage than on record. Great performances! The managers and producers tried to make a pop group out of them - but they were a pure rock band!!!
