    You’re the man Rob, that was thorough and excellent, thank you! BTW, I just bought the V1 and there is no designation for HS in the I-TTL mode. It seems like it’s only available in the Manual mode, is my flash defective? Also do you recommend returning the V1 for a pro version?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  6 месяцев назад

      I need to know which camera you have. I'm guessing it's a Nikon. Make sure you have Auto-FP turned on in-camera. You don't need the pro version for HSS in I-TTL. It should work on the V1 non-pro. The Pro version basically has better heat management so it can fire more shots sequentially without overheating.

    • @735Secure
      @735Secure 6 месяцев назад

      @@RobTrek You’re right it’s Nikon d850. It is set on Auto-FP, but I meant to say in off camera rx mode with the Godox X-proN remote it doesn’t fire faster than 1/250 sec. When it’s on camera hot shoe it fires HSS but not off camera. Also when experimenting with V1 in I-TTL mode, off camera and with camera turned off, there’s no HSS option to activate.
      -- Edit -- I just checked my GODOX ad300pro and it allows HSS in TTL mode (Doesn’t have I-TTL, not sure of the difference in function). Oh just remembered you use Olympus and Sony cameras and they have TTL not i -TTL, and since I’m not sure of the difference I don’t understand the significance. But when i was shooting film i think it was TTL and not iTTL.

    Hi Rob
    A useful, comprehensive video. ❤
    If I may go off topic, did you ever get to the bottom of why focus stacking with flash wasn’t working with the OM-1?
    I’ve got that problem using a Godox V860iiio off camera with an X2T.
    Apologies if you’ve already posted a solution that I’ve missed.
    Regards
    Keith

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Год назад

      Thanks. Unfortunately, I haven't figured anything out yet. I don't know if it's the OM-1 or the Godox Trigger. Flashes seem to work on-camera as a stand alone unit. However, if I use the on-camera flash to trigger an off camera flash, I run into the same issue. I do have a dumb (single pin) radio trigger and receiver that works. I just have to set the power manually. amzn.to/3CHJ8XS Another option might be to try using a pc sync cable from the camera to the trigger.

    • @65yorkie
      @65yorkie Год назад

      Thanks for that Rob. I’ll try a PC sync cable and let you know what happens.

    • @65yorkie
      @65yorkie Год назад

      Hi Rob
      Unfortunately the only sync cord I have doesn’t have a 2.5mm plug so that experiment is on hold.
      So I tried using a setup with the subject flash, a V860ii, set to manual with optical trigger S1 and a V860iiio on camera set to 1/256 power pointed to the ceiling. Focus stacking then worked perfectly.
      As with your use of a generic flash this isn’t an ideal setup as the main flash can’t be adjusted from the camera, and there’s a danger that some of the trigger flash may fall on the subject if not aimed away correctly, but it is workable.

    • @RobTrek

      My guess would be the shutter sync speed is off. Keep your shutter speed at 1/100th or slower. Let me know if that worked. -Rob

  • @williamhanrahan9211
    @williamhanrahan9211 Месяц назад

    Edit: TTL is now working for me. I removed the flash and put it back on and that got TTL mode to work properly. I'm not sure what the issue was before!
    Very helpful video! But how do I make TTL mode select the flash power to get the right exposure? In TTL mode, my flash is just going off at 1/256 power. If I start with an aperture and shutter speed that is exposing well in TTL mode and stop down the aperture and raise the shutter speed, the flash continues to go off only at 1/256 power and the image just gets darker and darker as I raise the aperture and shutter speed because the flash is not compensating for it.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Месяц назад

      There are many variables here. The first one would be to make sure you have the right version for your camera. If you have a Sony, you need the V1-S, Nikon V1-N, Fuji V1-F, Canon V1-C, Olympus/Pana V1-O. Make sure you're in mechanical shutter mode. Try using a fixed ISO instead of auto-iso. Start with ISO 100 or 200. Try shooting in full manual mode with the flash set to TTL. There are some other things to try, but it would take a while to explain. Generally, I don't use TTL because it's not reliable.

    • @williamhanrahan9211
      @williamhanrahan9211 Месяц назад

      @@RobTrekThanks for your answer! I finally got TTL mode to work by removing and reinstalling the flash on the hot shoe. It worked pretty well for me, but I will try manual mode next time. As long as the light is not changing significantly, it shouldn't be too hard to find the right flash power with desired aperture and shutter speed and stick with that. Thanks again for this super helpful video!

    Rob, this is a question about this or any godox flaash really. When the flash is in slave mode, you can still adjust the flash type (manual/ttl) and the power on this or really any flash like the ad200 etc on the flash units itself manual. Now what confuses me, on your trigger when you turn a channel on, you set the mode/power on the trigger which is what the flash uses. So what is the point of even being able to set this on the flash when in slave mode? Is there a way to make the trigger (say on any of the godox x triggers) "dumb" so that it tells the flash to fire, but respects what the user has dialed in on the flash physically rather than use what is set on the trigger?
    I imagine there must be a way to do this, for example, the triggers I have seem to go only to 1/128 but pretty the flashes like the ad200, v1 can go to 1/256, so it seems like on the ad200 for example, the only way this lowest power setting is useable is to remotely trigger the flash but not have the trigger override the manual set settings on the flash itself.

      Make sure you get the sony "s" version. It should be labeled V1s. amzn.to/3Sk26wg Also be sure you are using mechanical shutter mode.

    How do you DECREASE THE POWER if the flash is too bright?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  7 месяцев назад

      It depends on the mode you're in. In TTL mode, you adjust exposure compensation. In Manual mode, you adjust the power setting. Either way, you click on the left side of the control dial where the +/- symbol is and then rotate the wheel.

    hello Rob, do i need to change WB setting on my camera to Flash or just let it auto? im still confused becuse it became yellow on pictur.
    im using A6400 and V1

      I'm not familiar with the a6400 specifically. However, most cameras do have settings for flash that need to be set in a different menu. First, I would try setting the WB to a fixed 5500k and compare that with a fixed 10,000k. If the WB is drastically different, then that's all you need to do. If the WB is the same, then there is a separate menu item for flash WB that you will need to find. Let me know if that makes sense.
