Good afternoon! What would be the recommended product to use when it comes to middle school (1970s) wood composite floor? We just can't seem to get it with traditional gym finish methods
@@patrickficklin Hello Patrick, by “wood composite floor” are you talking about a Maple gym floor or some other product? If you have a traditional Maple floor, but your having adhesion issues with the finish, it may be time to sand it all the way down to raw wood & repaint the game lines.
Great question.... it’s hard to get absolutely everything on the video! Cleaning is absolutely essential to a great outcome! After we abrade with the square scrubs, we do lots of cleaning!!! We will use an auto scrubber, a couple of final trips across the gym with a tack towel is still a good idea!! Happy Trails my Freind!
We like Basic Coatings Street Shoe (2) component Water Based finish. (I should add that the Bona (2) component is also excellent) The Marion pad is about 200 grit + or - The red pad is for cleaning, to prep a wood floor it is important to abrade the floor. Put a small scratch in the existing finish.
Can you come to Boulder, Colorado and refinish my home's wood flloor? I know I could get someone local, but after watching this video, I really want to go out and have a beer with you.
I was just hired as a maintenance technician for a pro basketball team's G league team and their facility. This year they cut out the budget for re screening and coating of the basketball court floors. We already dry mopped and tacked them 2 times now and they still kind of look like crap. What is the best way to polish the floors as they are? I'm assuming using a side to side machine and a white pad? And what chemical/product should we use? We are located in DE just fyi. Need your advice bad. Please advise.
@@richr909 Hello, after using your swing machines to abrade the floor and remove all the shoe marks, throughly clean the floor and then apply gym floor finish. I am unfamiliar with VOC regulations in your state, but good quality 2 component water based finishes are available through Bona or Basic Coatings that should make your gym floor look fantastic! We wish you all the best!!
@@WyomingWoodFloors Thank you so much for your response. Just have a cpl questions. 1. what chemical do I use with the white pad to abrade the floor with the swing machine 2. what chemical do I use for cleaning the floor after the swing machine?
@@richr909 A white pad is probably not sufficient to abrade the floor. Use a maroon pad or even a 150 grit screen. Most finish manufactures also have floor cleaning products. Checks with Bona, Betco, Basic Coatings, or Hillyard.
We are abrading with an SPP pad not a screen. We call it the annual maintenance coat. It maybe splitting hairs…… but getting rid of the screens has completely eliminated the “ swirl mark” issue.
The pad we use is a 20” 3M SPP (Surface Preparation Pad) They are available at Custodial Supply firms or from companies who sell Hardwood Flooring Supplies.
This process should work just fine on an engineered floor. Be very careful NOT to use to much water! Just enough to clean the floor. A small walk behind floor scrubber should be available for rent, but if you have a number of these to do…. Purchasing one may be well worth it!
@@zafferhead All wood floors will eventually need to be sanded! Generally gyms should be sanded every 8-10 years. Some last longer, depending on use & maintenance.
This guy likes to hit things and yell randomly...a bit over the top maybe. Also basic degreaser cut 50/50 or TSP with some vinegar and cleaning with baking soda solution has been around for decades seems to be proven out if your in a pinch. You have to tac an extra pass, now go hit some stuff....it fun!!!
Like your enthusiasm for your work.
Thank You!!

Is there a final cleaning step like tacking after the square head buffer?

Thank you sir,
Your finish what do you use? Is it a oil base or water base? Spp the pad what grit is it?
Why didn’t you use a red pad?
Thank you.

Curious. How many maroon pads do you use on the square process?
The recommendation is 500 square feet per pad. However we find it really depends on the condition of the floor.

Great video but if you're abrading the floors and putting on more finish, isn't that screening & recoating?

Entertaining video Paul... So how do you apply your coating, outdated/obsolete T-Bar method?
SGC 1 yes, we use a T-bar
What specifically is the pad you used with the 175 and where can I purchase them? Thanks.

If a new gym floor that is 3 years old and NEVER been screened and recoated. Going to be slippery even after cleaning it? Thanks
I think your probably right about that! The recommendation is a new coat of finish every year.
how many coats ? ...
We usually apply 2 coats of Water Based finish.
@@WyomingWoodFloors Does the water based finish eventually need to be stripped or sanded?

What brand of water base do you use. Thank you
You remind me of J.R Ewing 😊
Basic Coatings 😀 very good finish
This is the future
