He had already made up his mind even before tasting it, where he clearly had decided that he doesn't like the bloke, when it's meant to be a cooking competition and not a popularity contest.
It's MASTERchef. It's about some of the most talented people in the country, and at a bare minimum you should have a basic idea of how to cook food properly, and how to harmoniously mix flavors.
He decided he doesn't like the bloke after he spent a chunk of the season getting all weepy that his dish sucked. That kind of person pretending to be talented and pretending to be a chef has no place in a serious competition.
majesty327 That's fair enough but it's still a cooking competition regardless and I just happen to think it's very unprofessional to reveal your obvious dislike of anyone when judging.
LilyK. Oh fair enough, I'm in the UK and have not watched this as a whole, so maybe my comment only applies generally and not specifically to this scenario.
1:14 You can see right there that Joe's brain enters fight or flight mode with that blink and those eyes when the contestant talks back to him when that music starts.
You know what. This guy is honestly a real fucking prick. Gordon may get angry, and insult you, but he tells it like it is, and is honest with you. This guy just wanted to be a pure asshole. That's all it is. He thinks he's Gordon, when he's not.
I know. Comparing Gordon Ramsay to Joe Bastianich is like comparing a bee to a wasp. Gordon represents the bee, who only gets pissed when attacked or insulted. Joe's the bastard wasp, who waits for a target and suddenly attacks him/her.
So true, this guy sees Ramsay yell and people and thinks it's totally ok for him to do it too, but really it isn't because he's just a dick when he does it
I was watching a compilation the other day, and I realized that Chef Ramsay will taste something, say whatever he honestly thinks about it, then Joe will taste it, say exactly what Ramsay said, and then throw it out. At least have some respect for the kitchen staff. Graham always goes hungry, but that's beside the point. The point is Joe knows only a little about cooking, and kind of bullshits his way through everything else, like same thing in this video she tastes the dish, and then he comes up, and just says that it's worse.
"The only thing worse than a cook who can't boil, is a narcissist in full of denial." Errrrr Joe mate, you do know you're one of the most deluded people on the show right?
***** Not all of them do, it's seen by customers as a bad thing. When I tip I do it based on the level of service I received, and I'm not giving extra money so the owners who already overcharge can make more money.
The food might not be good but replicating another dish would mean there is no creativity in what is made. It's basically like using instructions to make something that you didn't create. Joe is not anywhere close to being a master and he thinks there is nothing to show for his ego. Gordon didn't become famous cooking other people's recipes. He made his own food using his own recipes at his own restaurant. The basics are for the beginning stages of cooking. Creativity is for the real cooks. Joe is a beginner. He doesn't know food nor does he know how to treat a cook that wants to be better. Gordon is harsh for the greater good while Joe is harsh for his own pleasure.
Unless your accolades ares much more prestigious, your comment is emotional based. Dude is straight truth. None of thm those pity sugar coated answers will forge any masterchef
Lydia lucked out because Julia Child liked her shitty restaurant and put her fake italian ass in the spot light. Were it not for that her ass would still be nothing more than a restaurant owner / cook.

He was an asshole to everyone but then goes all soft to the judges and he got called out for it. After being called out, he got butthurt and insulted Joes critique despite having no leg to stand on.
Guy made a point. In Season 3, Graham was like if you think you can make it better, by all means try. Do you really want 15 recreations of something or do you want the contestants to take chances and show the judges what they can do?
It makes sense if you know the original dish so well that you can make it with your eyes closed. But if you're a pretty weak participant (and Howard was regularly among the worst before that) then maybe it would be more logical to make exactly the original dish, whose recipe was shown to you? 15 equally good restaurant-quality dishes it may not have been so interesting from the point of view of producers who want to see trash on the plate of evil judges spat out food and Joe throwing portions into the trash. But from the point of view of the judges as people giving advice and acting as some kind of mentors to these homecook chefs - it would be nice. That everyone performed equally well and everyone listens to the advice they are given.
Two years after Joe left the show, I still watch it just because I like cooking shows and it's freaking hard to find a good one. But man, let me tell you. It's not the same without Joe and Graham. Their chemistry is so spot on together. Christina seems to do fine (along with the new judge that seems to be a permanent addition now) but it seems that they are all saying things that is based on the show's writing without their own characters piercing through. If you switch their dialogues, people wouldn't notice because there is no characters in those dialogues. Gosh, I miss Joe and Graham. Especially Joe.

He had already made up his mind even before tasting it, where he clearly had decided that he doesn't like the bloke, when it's meant to be a cooking competition and not a popularity contest.
It's MASTERchef.
It's about some of the most talented people in the country, and at a bare minimum you should have a basic idea of how to cook food properly, and how to harmoniously mix flavors.
with the difference that in this case they asked them to REPLICATE a dish, not create something of their own. and he did not replicate it, purposely
He decided he doesn't like the bloke after he spent a chunk of the season getting all weepy that his dish sucked. That kind of person pretending to be talented and pretending to be a chef has no place in a serious competition.

I was watching a compilation the other day, and I realized that Chef Ramsay will taste something, say whatever he honestly thinks about it, then Joe will taste it, say exactly what Ramsay said, and then throw it out.

This was a recreation challenge and also you could maybe make a small little tweak if you want but what Howard did was way too much
I just love every clip of joe getting mad and the frame after is Gordon looking at joe like he’s a maniac
Joe may act tough, but he'd pee in his suit if he tried to speak that way to Chef Scott from Hell's Kitchen
Chef Scott might be a wannabe Gordon Ramsay in HK, but even he can be taken more seriously and is more respectable than Joe.
