It's interesting that she didn't seem too nervous about going in with other people. Whenever I play multiplayer games (especially when I'm new at them), I get crippling anxiety about other players. Didn't seem to phase her in the slightest, good on her!
Okay this confirms a lot of video essays(Ettra Games if you are curious) I've watched about how hard it is to get into FPS games It has a lot of just raw movement that the game/devs expect you to be okay with. This isn't the jumping and sliding, it is just the ability to move and aim at the same time. I wonder if trying a single player FPS(Half Life 2 or w.e you think is noob friendly enough) or something more puzzle oriented (Portal, Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Layers of Fear) then coming back to this as an "update" would be an interesting option.
Love the fact the series is continuing in other areas. It's such a fun concept and I'm excited to see where it goes. I would love to see her play Surge though. See where she'd place some souls-likes in the grand scheme. However, give her some rest from them and explore some other awesome games. Thank you!
This video was a pure joy to watch. Never looked too much into Apex Legends but this actually intrigued me enough to load it later. The montage where you were fighting off the baddies and noobus just chills in the background was hilarious. Would love to see you two team up more often in future videos. Thinking of it: that would actually be awesome in a souls game as well 🤔 but first off to new adventures. Can't wait to see what comes next 😊
Picking a hero because you connect with them is perfectly fine. In the event that you're trying to have fun with a game, whatever increases your fun works. Shout out from an Aussie.
Yay! You guys got a sponsorship! Well done, very much deserved! Loved the edit of you guys playing together 🤣(and thanks for putting the music in the description)
I feel this in my BONES - my friends tried to teach me to play CS:GO… I’m still not good by any means but I can confidently buy and pick up things now (yay) I also struggled a ton with the camera (pc) and aiming was challenging at first. Noobus Humanus I salute you and your first dive into a FPS… maybe try Fallout 4 next? I found it equally fun and infuriating at times.
The middle of this video (end of the first batch, I think?) was easily your funniest editing yet - well done! Also, speaking as somebody who picked up Half-Life, managed to die before the core sample test, and then decided perhaps it was not for him - I feel Noobus Humanus' pain on this one. edit: You know, it occurs to me that perhaps other stressful games (but less coordination-intensive ones), a la XCOM or The Banner Saga might make interesting fodder for this series. (If time pressure is required... I dunno, a chess clock maybe?)
As a non fps player, this was very entertaining. And the background story developing by you guys getting engaged is a nice extra. Question remains, what IS her cup of tea? :D
It’s awesome how many people ya’ll met willing to help. Apex definately has a higher amount of helpful players than I’ve seen in any other competitive game.
I love the Noobus Humanus Series. congrats to the Newbie on the win, I have played 40 hours of Apex and still have never won a BR. also congrats to the both of you on the engagement. I hope to see some Borderlands in the future.
Man, I laughed my FUCKING ass out every time LOL Noobus Humanus is an anxious as me! I really love you both man, I wish I had a chance to share some beers and chat!
Kinda wish there was a player cam in the corner as it's always better to see the frustration. Still great work. Although I really want a macaroni cheese pie now
My god what a fantastic laugh. The joy of discovery and laughing off faillure is something people seem to loose after a certain amount of gaming. Good stuff!
The more i watch this video the more I'd like to see more games where they play together like biped, a way out, Trine, unravel, especially It takes two
As dated as they now are, I feel like the Portal & Half Life games are the best introductions to the FPS genre, especially for getting used to the controls/camera. However, I would be fascinated to see Noobus play the new Doom games... 😅
hey man, I've loved the series and I love that your girlfriend is now your fiance. I feel oddly connected to that as I proposed to my own girlfriend this last sunday. I don't know, that just me happy. awesome video as always!
With the announcement of the remake, I’d be curious what she’d think about the original RE4. It would make a good companion piece to the First 10 Minutes of RE4 video. Congratulations on engagement!
To be fair about the "pick up a second weapon" bit, I've never played Apex and even with the arrow in the editing, I didn't see the weapons for a while. They could be outlined a bit better for communication in the game.
Why don’t you give her custom binds so her aim and shoot are on L1 and R1. That’s what I have them on. 😎 Also I’m SO GLAD that you are into Apex and are getting her into it! 18:22 And how did the loba not shoot her?! 🤣🤣🤘🏽
Loved the video, really cool that you guys are trying other games. do think it was slightly unfair to have her first FPS be a multiplayer… not anymore unfair as having their first game be dark souls. I do wonder how she would do with mouse and keyboard, I’ve found that noobies often have difficulty juggling the 2 thumb sticks only ever using one at a time, either moving or looking around, the addition of a mouse might remove that. Would be interesting to see the difference.
what's funny is, when she punched that guy out, she seemingly got better at aiming and following her targets instantly. The clip shortly after, she's aiming a pistol at the ground. LOL
Hey Monty, really enjoyed the video. Can I cordially request that you have the Noobus do a run of Hitman at some point? I'd really like to see her tackle the Sanguine Paris Fashion Show.
ima make a slight suggestion she is used to souls games these games have ai and these ai have patterns ones she could learn and fight she seemed to significantly better fight the ai dogs i’m guessing to their movement patterns they get up close they either don’t move fast or they take frequent stops to pause kinda like how souls bosses and enemies and so i think a game that had those characteristics might be better if you wanna bring her into fps maybe try borderlands the game scales well there are bosses and mechanics easy to understand and also make her sensitivity 75% on the y axis and 60% on the c axis of whatever you’d normally play i know this type of setting helped me get my girlfriend into fps games cause she didn’t spend so long looking at either clouds or the ground and could have a easier time adjusting anyway just some food for thought loved the video congrats as well
lol, yeh, there's just no competing with Portal. It's still the gold standard of introducing fps controls to a non-gamer. Luckily, it didn't seem like motion sickness was an issue. My own girlfriend had significant trouble with motion sickness, and ARK: Survival Evolved is the game that got her over it. She was so motivated to tame dinos that she pushed through, and the ability to play in third person made it easier for her to develop a tolerance.
Oi Monty, you know, you probably could have started her out with something a bit less stressful but with similar mechanics, aye?, something that would get her into the idea of how to control an FPS first before she had to worry about shooting other people. I'm talking about Portal, yeah? Having her play Portal 1, 2 and then the MP campaign together, that would have polished her basic FPS skills.
You know, even though these videos are funny and all. I can't help but wonder what would happen if my boyfriend made a video called " I made my girlfriend hand sew a wedding dress". I don't think I would be laughing anymore. So big props to her, she's more brave than I could ever be.
I’ve seen a lot of new players not understand camera controls in FPS games. I don’t really understand it. Seems pretty intuitive. Sure, the other buttons are gonna be confusing, but movement and camera?
it's really a shame that competitive multiplayer games have really never succeeded in the most BASIC introduction to the game's most critical function. Playing with and against OTHER HUMAN BEINGS. The game should damn near FORCE you to join a post-tutorial match that first cooperates you with another person against AI and then pits you against at least one other person so you know what you're expected to do when you get into a real match. The first time your fiance ever actually sees an enemy player, they ran across her screen 10 feet away and she had no clue they were a target.
This is gonna sound abit harsh but i have no faith in this going well. A non gamer playing an fps with a controller is bad enough, but playing a fast paced battle royale like Apex with its insane movement mechanics is just on another lvl.
I know why you started her on your account but it may have been smarter to give her a fresh account so the game quickly puts her with players that are new as well
This game is hard on new players, so much depends on each player, you cannot scape your responsabilities 😆 I prefer to spend some good time chilling in Halo infinite. I would say she did a great job by being first time in a competitive fps
Personally I'd suggest if you're gonna teach her FPS games you should play Borderlands 2 with her. It's an awesome noob friendly game cause of a few reasons, reason 1 playing with a friend or significant other is always easier than playing on your own, 2 the story is decently long so she'll have plenty of time to get used to the controls and everything, 3 being able to level past enemies means you can scale the difficulty to exactly what you want, 4 the story is great and it's pretty funny and entertaining so she likely won't lose interest if she finds it difficult, 5 not really related to why Borderlands is good but online games can be pretty intimidating for a first time player especially feeling bad for your teammates that you're not doing well (which you could hear a bit from her in this vid). Borderlands 2 while not my first game I ever played it was my first FPS (besides Minecraft but I played that with a mouse and I played Borderlands with a controller) and it felt so easy to pick up after a short time of relearning what I needed to with the camera.
Okay, to be fair..... Apex is a punishing game to start her on. It's a punishing game even for veterans, at least on PC. And playing on your account meant she was loaded into your lobbies instead of the noob lobbies that the game usually starts people in on new accounts.

Honestly, this is the first time I've read something that perfectly explains why I can't do FPS, I've never been able to put it into words

Excellent choice of music for this episode! 😊
This was great to watch I love these videos.
Congrats my man, we will be watching your careers with great interest
Man, you have a patience of a saint
Apex is more "simple" but much much harder. Especially with the high skill gap and adapting on the fly to a real person's acts and motions etc.
I literally got into this game just because it was made by respawn
Congrats on your engagement

You really should make her play the good Resident Evils, i want her getting to the first Nemesis boss fight in the OG Resi 3
Do an indie game like hollow knight or hades next. Think she would like the art style of those games

I think a turn based game might be cool
New Apex players I'm assuming it's because he doesn't play free to play games but Apex is one of the least generous games you can play.
I want to double like the video.
May I suggest horror games
Maybe RE7 or RE2 Remake
