Dark souls 1 has a far shorter area and probably the easest of the first bosses to beat to be able to level up. You literally can take about half its health before you even start. And with the right gift can beat it before getting a weapon. Whereas phalanx has you go up a tower and back down another before bringing you back to the start. A good comparison is Monster Hunter Rise. There are animals called spirit birds around the levels which boost your stats until the end of the run when collected. The birds are a buff and a pretty sizeable one when maxed, enough to double your max health. Problem is the way Rise presents this information to the player. That's why I've enjoyed this series, as well as Razbuten's, and watching Dan Ryckert's dad play Breath of the Wild on Twitch. There's so much we take for granted that seeing a less experienced person make assumptions based on real life logic and experience (such as stepping over something knee high or healing before a level-up/rest) not to mention the actual systems and mechanics, it shows there is more of an entry barrier than you might think.

ACKshully, the doll is only locked off until you have 1 insight. So you level up without even seeing a boss if you consume a mad man's knowledge. Granted first time players won't know that.
You can also enter the boss fog gate and then immediately exit after acquiring the Insight. Also not something that first time players would know, but still.
That was the experience for the entire game! Oh, first time players wouldn't know this. Oh, if you want that shiny you must first hop over here, jump over something that is the only version of the obstacle in the game that you can hop over ... bleah. Back then the web map was your only hope. Otherwise you wouldn't know to look behind the base of a statue to find a shiny. It's map was a life saver - at half-health life saving is important.
@@YHaTToY Thsts not a spoiler. It has nothing to do with the plot and its something 99% of people don't even notice. Plus the game is from 2016, if you were gonna play it, you would have by now.

That's the plan! Will be a good while away yet though - I'll need to play it through at the same time as everyone else - hopefully a couple of times - then recording time etc!
@@MontyZander Why not do two separate entries/series? Noobus vs Elden Ring (to continue this one) and Noobus and Zander Take on Elden Ring? It looks like the co-op is really good and really customizable.
As somebody who’s started with Demon’s Souls and owns, yet hasn’t played through, the other Souls games I would definitely say it’s best experienced first. I can appreciate it immensely. It’s massively punishing and doesn’t hold your hand but i’m set up for that premise now with other Souls games. Also…I think I might’ve died to Phalanx first time round. Bare in mind though that I was a complete n00b to the game and am mostly at hurt with command-based JRPGs.
I personally really like Phalanx, I get that it isn't that challenging of a boss (demon's souls/DS3 having several what could be considered spectacle bosses) But its design and mechanic of the horde being the protector of the core, is cool, also the lead-up to it pitting you against several individual sheild/spear dudes I think is great teaching. There are several bosses that act similarly to this fight thoughout the Souls series, but I think this is the best. This was an enjoyable video, cute and funny
Always enjoy these episodes. You both have a great attitude and sense of humor, but the best part is the boss battles. Watching her suffer and learn ends up making it such a visceral experience. When the last couple of attempts on a boss is made, I'm tense as if I'm playing, each second stretching out feeling like several seconds, followed by elation when the boss goes down. One day I hope you can talk her into doing the entire game. I'm sure you would get a year of episodes out of it and possibly divorce papers.
14:54 You might already know this, but I just wanna say that in the original version of DeS, the reduced health is much more clear, with a blue bar covering the health you don't have, and a much more obvious graphic showing the actual edge of your health bar. I'm not sure why Bluepoint decided to make it look so vague here, and I'll bet it could easily be altered.
Your original dark souls video hooked me into the series and I’ve been playing it since. With demons souls being my first souls game, I’m so glad you finally made this video.
I enjoy these videos a lot because all the pieces are more than a whole. The editing makes it even more entertaining. I like the switch between gameplay and narration. The music fits. The zooms, the effects, the subtitles are easy to read and support the humor.
What? People thought the monumental was the statue? The cutscene shows you a door, basically saying "go here" and then you find a single child that isn't dead
Broooo!!! I accidentally fell into your Videos and now i'm so thankful i found this Channel. The chemistry berween you and your girlfriend is awesome. And Very fun to watch and listen.
Holy crap, this is a delight. I feel like everybody needs to experience their inexperienced significant other playing through this series. This is both adorable and hilarious. I think doubly so because you can hear her accent getting thicker based on her emotions. My wife doesn’t have any speaking tones that give away her emotions, but she does scream like she’s being murdered whenever she encounters literally anything that doesn’t resemble a 95 year old man clumsily wielding a broken sword.
I wish I could erase the experience of my first playthrough and do it all over again. Videos like this are as close as I'll ever come, short of a head injury.
Same! It's going to be interesting to see how the opening area will be since I suspect that more new players to the Soulsborne games will probably get started with Elden ring
Awesome, Tower Knight was one of my favorite bosses in that game. It really made me think I was getting how to play the game once I could beat him. Now she needs to beat the final boss of one of these games. That will be a long but interesting journey.
I love your series guys! I wish my non gamer girlfriend was willing to give it a go as well. I'd be interested to see a list of all soulsborne and sekiro games rated from most to least favourite now that Noobus played them all
I love this channel. I know this comment will probably fade into the black hole the internet is. And that's good. The world has gotten me down, life is hard. Harder than it used to be. I felt like I didn't have time to appreciate things. And put the stuff I like on hold. The monotonous drone of my life and the clicking of my keyboard makes me tired. But these videos, make it a little better. My love of video games blossoms again. And I want to delve into a wonderful world and forget about tomorrow. So thank you, for continuing to create wonderful content and for rekindling my love of things I thought long forgotten.
It's funny that you mention Firelink in DS3 reminding you of the Nexus. I got the same vibe. Same with the bridge leading to the Twin Princes reminding me of Boletaria, and Irithyll Dungeon reminding me of Latria.
I don´t mind the half-health of Demon´s souls since the game is balanced around it. Most encounters assume you are at soul-form. The game is more dependent on RPG mechanics than pure action of DS3 and bloodborne, and thus I think it is superior. I don´t want all my souls games be nothing but boss-dodge-fests. There has to be actual strategy and smart play instead of reflexes and pattern learning. Also Phalanx is a great first boss that you actually has to defeat since it teaches you to move around during the boss and not stand still, and find a weakness instead of brute forcing it.
I beat Phalanx on the first try, but I had no idea it was weak to fire. I don't use tools or anything in these games. I beat Dark Souls 1-3 plus Bloodborne barely using a single tool. I never thought it would be weak to fire for some reason lol Also, I could NOT find the Monumental on my playthrough. Had to look it up. I played offline, so I couldn't see messages, so I had no idea. So annoying. Lastly, I HATED how you could pick levels at the start. I'm not playing Crash Bandicoot, I'm playing a Souls game. Took away all the magic of finding places organically.
Just to let you know, this video never showed up in my subscription box until today (four days after upload)- love your channel, great video! Would be fun to see her take on Monster Hunter next maybe
I spent an hour looking for the monumental and found it completely by accident thinking i was picking up an unseen item. When the baby faced bastard looked up and started talking it legitimately made me jump in fear. It’s such a weird, obtuse setup and I kinda love it.
I'm not that surprised by a newb dying to Phalanx. It's easy to get gang-tackled if you rush in like she did. You're seeing the Phalanx through the lens of a seasoned Souls veteran.
I totally get it, I did the same thing looking for the Monumental, but sort of stumbled onto him after a minute or two. Also, it's remarkable how she chose all the hardest levels first. :)
This was an amazing series and it was impressive to see your gf improve with each game, unfortunately she played all of soulsborne games so I suggest to make her play Hollow knight next it got that souls vibe i don’t know why

There is nothing specific, aside form minor details, that can support a theory that links Dark Souls and Demon's Souls together. HOWEVER, there is a theory that links all Soulsborne games together. It doesn't sustain itself, of course, but if you are curious about the Joint Timeline of Soulsborne and a re willing to make a few concessions, here you go: ruclips.net/video/vT_4jf02wsU/видео.html
So many things i never noticed here. I’ve never once listened to npcs dialogue in these games because I don’t care about the world and am pretty much in it just for the gameplay. Miss a lot because of that. Never noticed any of the aesthetic choices like the designs on the archstones. The biggest thing though is the game encouraging you to use fire in 1-1. I play these games sword and shield and rarely alter that gameplay, so it never even crossed my mind that the game wanted me to use fire. It comes down to me not being into fantasy stuff and ignoring key aspects of the games because of that. Going to try and get more into story and world stuff in Elden Ring. Great vid!
I STILL remember having to look up a guide to find the monumental. Turns out games with no instruction don't have much crossover, because I had beaten morrowind and more and still had no clue what I was looking for. Like literally have the journal burned into my brain but couldn't find a doll with a moving head and a lone light source pointing to them. Me and my brother both were completely confuzzled.
Tower of Latria, Valley of defilement and then stonefang tunnel :') what an awful order. You should have warned her that she's basically picking the hardest areas in order.
She's getting really good. I think she's better than the average Souls player at this point. There wasn't much struggle, I mean, not for a Souls game. I actually like that the game doesn't let you level up until you've beaten Phalanx. It makes you get better and when you finally get through it, you feel like a badass. It's especially rewarding when you're replaying the game if you can get get past all of it without dying. I think this teaches you two important lessons the other games don't early on, which are resource and risk management. Thanks for another great video, you two. Be well.
Honestly, my favorite part of this video is the way she continually deviated from her main objective to explore and look for useful items/NPCs. It's cool to watch her out for blood, excited about the combat and overcoming a challenge, but the innate desire to scour every inch of the world, I think, speaks volumes about her progression as a "gamer," if you will. Maybe she just really liked this particular entry, but it's almost like she's kind of becoming "one of us" and thinking about games the way we have our whole lives. It's really cool.
Noobus vs Sens Fortress! That's good you committing this series. Have her complete specific areas. Sens Fortress of perhaps my favorite area in all souls born games.
9:34 Firelink Shrine in Dark Souls III is very similar looking to the Kiln of The First Flame from Dark Souls I. After defeating Gwyn, take a look around and you'll see what I mean. Hence, the way we get to the Soul of Cinder makes sense if Firelink Shrine is Gwyn's arena.
Love this series! Would love to see yous expand into Souls-like, The Surge, Mortal Shell etc. Maybe even turn the tables and have You play and give the Noobus a well deserved break Haha
I have also died to Phalanx... more than once when I first played Demon's Souls shortly after it's original release for PS3. But I found the monumental without assistance... after about an hour of wandering around confused
Also in bloodborne you don’t even need to see the Cleric Beast in order to talk to the doll. You just need insight. If you head to the sewers and pick up a madman’s knowledge and then use it before you enter the dream again, then the doll should be awake and you can level up.
i didnt got the chance to play the remake , but my favorite thing i really enjoyed of the original was the importance of sounds. (that and visuals too ) at almost anypoint in the game would you almost constantly had small audio cue about enemies , objects moving and what not. if you stayed alert and listened to those sounds, it just felt so rewarding to find and avoid traps because of it !
You don't need to see a boss in Bloodbourne to access the Doll. All that it requires is that you gain even a single point of insight. Most bosses give you elderich insight simply by seeing them for the first time, but if you explore Yharnam you can obtain at least one Madman's Knowledge Item, which is essentially a Humanity item, granting insight. You can then return to the Hunter's Dream and speak to her before facing any bosses. A cursory wiki search indicates there are two Madman's knowledge items in Central Yharnam, so ample opportunity to get one. Edit: ...It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure I did have to look up where the monumental was...so yea...good note for Myazaki.
I became obsessed with this game after it came out on PS3 and gained instantaneous infamy for breaking controllers (thrown through walls). It was ridiculously difficult for the time. Hindsight in a world of "soulslike" game design makes this game much easier now than it was.
He may be a crawling pile of dung, but I kind of like the phalanx. He's a 'gank' boss in the loosest sense of the word, and he has a pretty easy to understand gimmick (the directional shields). And then beating the crap out of the main dung pile in the later half of the fight is a very satisfying moment of triumph.

@@river7874 ymfah flashbacks
That was the experience for the entire game! Oh, first time players wouldn't know this. Oh, if you want that shiny you must first hop over here, jump over something that is the only version of the obstacle in the game that you can hop over ... bleah. Back then the web map was your only hope. Otherwise you wouldn't know to look behind the base of a statue to find a shiny. It's map was a life saver - at half-health life saving is important.
The original Firelink Shrine from Dark Souls 1 IS in Dark Souls 3. Its in the Ringed City DLC, where you fight the Demon in Pain & Demon From Below.
Which doesn't make sense at all, but ds3 is more fan service and retcons than a coherent product anyways. Ds2 did more for continuity than 3.
Thanks for the spoiler alert very appreciated.
@@YHaTToY Thsts not a spoiler. It has nothing to do with the plot and its something 99% of people don't even notice. Plus the game is from 2016, if you were gonna play it, you would have by now.

One of my favourite series's on youtube. I litteraly bought Demon souls 20 minutes ago so the timing couldent be better! Do you plan on subjecting the noobus to Elden ring?
That's the plan! Will be a good while away yet though - I'll need to play it through at the same time as everyone else - hopefully a couple of times - then recording time etc!
Yo for no reason where you at and are you human?
@@MontyZander Why not do two separate entries/series? Noobus vs Elden Ring (to continue this one) and Noobus and Zander Take on Elden Ring? It looks like the co-op is really good and really customizable.
@@MontyZander Why not consider playing it with her the first time?
huge refinement of the series. sound quality, editing and theme all impoved. Very well done!
Both me and my girlfriend love this series and have been cry-laughing to it at times. Sad that there is only one game left!
Seeing the Red Eyes Knight on your first time to 1-1 and going "Nope, nope, nope" while turning around is completely the right reaction.
This is one of my favorite, souls related, series on RUclips. Thanks for that and i pray there will be more
I actually think i understand her "drunken rambling logic" in regards to the half health thing! That or I'm just equally as insane while sober......
I love these videos, but I also love watching your channel grow! Almost 35k now. Love it, man.
Monty and noobus, I missed you guys. This series is as much as playing the games.
Note: I also appreciate the death's door music.

You might already know this, but I just wanna say that in the original version of DeS, the reduced health is much more clear, with a blue bar covering the health you don't have, and a much more obvious graphic showing the actual edge of your health bar.
I'm not sure why Bluepoint decided to make it look so vague here, and I'll bet it could easily be altered.
Your original dark souls video hooked me into the series and I’ve been playing it since. With demons souls being my first souls game, I’m so glad you finally made this video.
I missed you both
I enjoy these videos a lot because all the pieces are more than a whole. The editing makes it even more entertaining. I like the switch between gameplay and narration. The music fits. The zooms, the effects, the subtitles are easy to read and support the humor.
I've watched all the I made my gf play videos all in a row and honestly I need more lol it was so entertaining and hilarious
Monty, your editing with her humor is top notch, thanks for the hours worth of quality content. “Just mine-ing his own business” 😭
Ahh the game that started it all. Loved the video. You're girlfriends reactions are hilarious.
So proud of her progress. Cant wait for her to try Elden Ring.
Heck I can't wait to try elden ring lmao
Same! It's going to be interesting to see how the opening area will be since I suspect that more new players to the Soulsborne games will probably get started with Elden ring
@@flibjabber same dude! Can't wait to meet all the new waifus
@@Pandemia616 Have you tried talking to real women. Or is this the result of your inability to do so.
Yes! I've been waiting for this. Thanks guys 😁
Great episode. Loving this series!
I really like your theory about the Nexus and Firelink Shrine!
Awesome, Tower Knight was one of my favorite bosses in that game. It really made me think I was getting how to play the game once I could beat him. Now she needs to beat the final boss of one of these games. That will be a long but interesting journey.
Loved that you mentioned Mega Man near the beginning and then ended it all off with a (somewhat) epic montage with Dr. Wily's theme in the background.
"Drink every time I die!"
Me: Hahaha. Haha. Aha. **Eyes whiskey** no ma'am.
Loved the editing of this vid - so much fun and great pacing watching the chaos unfold!
I love your series guys! I wish my non gamer girlfriend was willing to give it a go as well. I'd be interested to see a list of all soulsborne and sekiro games rated from most to least favourite now that Noobus played them all
Well done nubus humanus! You’ve leveled up to demon slayer humanus! Thank you both for these videos, I love them!
It's the little things that get us through. I'm glad these silly videos could be that for you 🧡
It's funny that you mention Firelink in DS3 reminding you of the Nexus.
This is a really really good point about the game being balanced around soul-form ^ love it!
I beat Phalanx on the first try, but I had no idea it was weak to fire. I don't use tools or anything in these games. I beat Dark Souls 1-3 plus Bloodborne barely using a single tool. I never thought it would be weak to fire for some reason lol
Also, I could NOT find the Monumental on my playthrough. Had to look it up. I played offline, so I couldn't see messages, so I had no idea. So annoying. Lastly, I HATED how you could pick levels at the start. I'm not playing Crash Bandicoot, I'm playing a Souls game. Took away all the magic of finding places organically.
Ooohhh glad to see you guys back! Your better half is my favorite player lol. Good luck!
I swear the timing on these vids is perfect like I just finished demons souls and this comes out happened multiple times too
These are priceless. Thank y'all so much
Just to let you know, this video never showed up in my subscription box until today (four days after upload)- love your channel, great video! Would be fun to see her take on Monster Hunter next maybe
AH that's annoying! Appreciate the heads up!
Seriously, how good is the Death's Door OST! Sounds so good as the background to some Souls action!
Yay! You're back! I missed the content and the laughs!
Happy new year for you and the noobus humanus
What an astonishing pair of avatars monty. I'm jaw on the floor impressed by your skills in art direction.
This was an amazing series and it was impressive to see your gf improve with each game, unfortunately she played all of soulsborne games so I suggest to make her play Hollow knight next it got that souls vibe i don’t know why
RUclips recommended me the dark souls 1 one of these, I loved it! So I spent the day bingeing all the "I made my girlfriend play" videos XD Thank you for making these videos and thanks youtube for the recommend :) Also I love the Scottish accent and accents in that area of the world XD Its seriously one of my favorites XD Now to watch some of your other videos, but maybe tomorrow, Im pretty tired from the binge watching XD And cant wait for more from this series too :) Good luck the both of you with everything IRL and internet related
I really love so much this vids! Your synergy as a couple is amazing.
Please do more vids together, and show her more gaming gems 🖤
There is nothing specific, aside form minor details, that can support a theory that links Dark Souls and Demon's Souls together. HOWEVER, there is a theory that links all Soulsborne games together. It doesn't sustain itself, of course, but if you are curious about the Joint Timeline of Soulsborne and a re willing to make a few concessions, here you go:
ruclips.net/video/vT_4jf02wsU/видео.html
Yeeeeeeessss let's gooooooo. I love all your vids but I've been waiting for this one in particular
This is truly funny. What have you done to the poor girl? I'm pretty curious to see her reaction when she meets Yurt, the Slient Chief though
She can no longer be considered a noob. She is now one of us.
Damn, right on my birthday. Wonderful present, love this series and can't wait for noobus humanus plays elden ring.
Just came from playing Death's Door and the video starts with its OST as background music, wasn't expecting that from a Demon's Soul video xD
Tower of Latria, Valley of defilement and then stonefang tunnel :') what an awful order. You should have warned her that she's basically picking the hardest areas in order.
I really love that you put Death's Door music at the start❤️
@ 24:00 My first time fighting this boss, I was one hit away from death because I figured the slimes would stop attacking once the big one was dead XD
yep u made my day again. god I love this wholesome vids. thank you both
Loving these vids man!
Love the Deaths Door background music. And your videos.
I just discovered your channel and you come up with a new noobus humanus ❤️❤️❤️yay
Just found your channel today and you've just uploaded, brilliant! 😀
Love this series! Would love to see yous expand into Souls-like, The Surge, Mortal Shell etc. Maybe even turn the tables and have You play and give the Noobus a well deserved break Haha
Good idea. There's also all the 2d soulslike games like Salt & Sanctuary, Momodora, and Hollow Knight.
I'd love to see her fight The Fell Omen, when Elden Rings drops 😄
omg im finally back to playing this game since quitting in 2017. can’t wait to watch this video
Another great video! Truly think your girlfriend may be a Noobus no longer.
Oh, and compliments on the choices of music!
The real question is why is she still on girlfriend status, put a ring on it, ya dingus!
i didnt got the chance to play the remake , but my favorite thing i really enjoyed of the original was the importance of sounds. (that and visuals too )
at almost anypoint in the game would you almost constantly had small audio cue about enemies , objects moving and what not. if you stayed alert and listened to those sounds, it just felt so rewarding to find and avoid traps because of it !
Brilliant video as always 👌🏼
The deaths door music was a nice addition i fucking love the soundtrack to that game
28:26, you actually have enough time to say without rushing, "I am still falling"
That's quite the drop
Love this series, I got inspired and I’m trying to convince my girlfriend to try Dark Souls 1.
