Bill Duke was also in Predator with Arnold and did direct also Sister Act 2: Back in Habbit. Both Sister acts are funny comedies. This film is so fun. Its 80's action films combined into one single film, that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Literally in my top 10 favourite movies ever. Which is ridiculous to say, as there are a lot masterpieces out there. But NO film makes me smile like Commando does, just from thinking about it. Not even wonderful classics like The Sting or The Shop Around The Corner (although some of those can make me cry!).
The more you learn the details in Commando, especially some dire continuity (self-repairing yellow Porsche etc), the more it's the gift that keeps giving. I even like his sponsorless, brandless wristwatch! The soundtrack is so forceful and unusual. Rae Dawn Chong plays his sidekick perfectly. And it's SO quotable (partly because everyone keeps saying what's going to happen, which is either correct when Arnie says it or woefully wrong when baddies do! And because the baddies are SO smug!).
"We'll take Cooke's car. He won't be needing it."
If you start watching Rambo, bear in mind what an awesome actor and writer Stallone was for First Blood (the first Rambo film), and also the Rocky films. He's very different to Arnie.

Arnold Swarzeggers most underrated and one of his best movies is RAW DEAL. He did that movie as apart of an agreement so he could get out of a terrible contract. Because of that he got the opportunity to buy the rights to Total Recall and make that in 1990. The cast and crew of RAW DEAL had alot of fun making the movie and Swarzegger said it was some of the most fun he had making a movie. Shame it's almost completely forgotten. The movie has gotten a RAW DEAL.

    81 on-screen kills.
Commando is Arnold's #1 killer movie.
John Wick has more kills, but also more movies.
John Wick kills 1 person every 1 minute 18 seconds.
Matrix kills 1 person every 1 minute 6 seconds, so Arnold has more kills per minute in this movie than John Wick's entire franchise.

Rambo is very different, with it being the action version of the war films of the late 70s, while Commando is the pinnacle of the 80s action film. The Rambo sequels are more in line with Commando, and a blast to watch. Last Action Hero is a great one that doesn't get enough love that I would recommend, along with Red Heat(1988) and Raw Deal(1986)(lesser follow ups to Commando, but still fun).

    • @theyearoftherat

Rambo didn't start off being unrealistically bombastic... First blood is extremely underrated. I watched it again about a year back and that film doesn't feel dated at all in the way a lot of the "blockbuster" action films of the 80's feel. That and Cop Land show that Stallone could have done some serious roles (serious I mean as in drama) - it's too bad because I think he could have broken the mold that most people had him in as some sort of action hero.

Besides "Twins," "The Running Man," and "Total Recall," "The Last Action Hero" is probably the best Arnold movie that you haven't seen yet, but you need to watch several other popular 90s movies (specifically "Amadeus") in order to catch all the jokes.

LOL, so true saying Bennet didn't look tough, as besides the crazy action situations in this movie, him as the villain was my only real issue. Dude had a gut, looked completely soft and seemed like a drama teacher at a local HS. Truly one of the worst castings in Hollywood history, as he was supposed to take on a 7 time Mr. Olympia winner? I don't feel Casting was bad, Vernon Wells can be intimidating. Problem was the attire combined the lines they wrote for him. The movie was supposed to be over the top and not taking itself too seriously, but they went bit too far with villain being total opposite of John Matrix. Vernon Wells does good psychotic characters... Its just that knitted vest + Eddie Mercury Mustache combination with his lines.

All pre 2000 Arnie is pretty fun stuff, after that it gets more varied.

Had to watch it over and over and over when it came online. Of course my 3 boys were crazy about it.
Really enjoyed your reaction to it. Spot on all the way.
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe. Happy New Year!!
