I feel so innocent, lol. I definitely didn't know what sex was, so that didn't make an appearance in my Barbie plots. It started with Barbie and Ken being married, but then Teresa moved in with them and Barbie and Teresa fell in love and had a child (Kelly) together, don't ask how xD, but Ken was totally okay with that and continued living with them. Also they all ran a ranch together, so 90% of the drama was stuff like horses getting injured or a foal getting born...😂 I think I had like twice as many Barbie horses as I had actual Barbie dolls...
This movie is so culturally important especially now when women’s rights are under attack. The point so beautifully illustrated in this movie is that the patriarchy does a disservice to men and women. Every second of this movie is intentional while being accessible and visually stunning. You don’t have to pay bail for a shoplifting ticket and certainly not for self defense. They’d charge you with shoplifting, and release you with a court date. Not that I’ve shoplifted, but I got kids, brothers, etc. anyway, point is you would absolutely be released with a court date and without paying anything until after your court date if arrested for the things they were arrested for. In fact, depending on the state/county, they might just write you a ticket with a court date and wouldn’t even take you to jail for shoplifting, similar to a traffic ticket but for criminal court where you have to show up for court and plead guilty/not guilty, after which either a fine would be set or a court hearing depending on your plea, you couldn’t just plead guilty through paying the fine and forgo court. But, point is, they’d either never take you to jail in the first place or release you immediately afterwards if arrested for a first time shoplifting charge. The first time assault charge as well, and hopefully with an apology since she was sexually assaulted first and they arrested the wrong person.

For me the whole idea of "why do this with Barbie, it's a kid's toy." Okay, and there are plenty of other Barbie movies for that, this movie is made for other reasons.
The main point of the movie is that dotted line in the ocean east of China on the World Map in Weird Barbie's house. See it? At 7:11 On real maps it's called, "The Nine-Dash Line" and it declares that the South China Sea is the property of China, not Viet Nam. The Barbie story is merely a distraction. Who owns the South China Sea? The U.N. says Viet Nam. China says China. Each of us must decide for ourselves!
I had the release of the Barbie movie in the cinema and I enjoyed it very much and I liked it. There are also people who say that they didn't like the movie because it promotes hatred towards men 😢 What do you think about this? I hope to know your opinion because it worries me a lot because he hated men so much.
I don't think it's a hateful movie it's just a confused mess. It feels like it's trying to poke fun at everyone while not trying to piss anyone off. And it'll preach all of these messages then just backtrack on them.
I don’t think it promotes hatred towards men, but rather points out lots of problems women have to deal with under the patriarchy and humanizes both men and women. Barbie Land is a direct parody of the real world; it is the reverse where women are in power and men are only valued for how they treat women. Though this aspect was a way of helping men understand how women feel in the real world by placing them in women’s shoes, I think a lot of people overlooked it and saw it as the movie promoting a matriarchy instead. They would sympathize with and relate to Ken but not connect the dots that it’s how women feel all the time and that it was intended as a moment for them to understand rather than think women are trying to put them down. Simultaneously, by directly placing Ken’s in the same boat as women in the real world, the movie is not vilifying men but in fact showing that both men and women are human. The roles could have been reversed; men are not inherently domineering or power-hungry. Sorry for that spiel lol I hope that perspective helped!
@@zachsutton6195 backtrack? How so? And it’s funny you mention “not wanting to piss anyone off” when so many men got offended anyway. It’s either they’re hyper sensitive and insecure babies and it’s a miracle they’re still surviving (but I guess their family and patriarchy coddles them so they survive, proving the power of influence, patriarchy, and wives/mothers protecting men)…or it wasn’t pulling punches at all. Some ppl felt it was the perfect amount of sass and criticism, and were amazed Mattel let them do it. But some friends also said it pandered too much to men as well. Either way, even if you’re pulling punches or not, in what way does it backtrack? Unless you’re claiming this cus you came away with the wrong message and therefore they did “backtrack” on a message they never intended to make.
@@BelBelle468 idk to me the message just doesn't work when they just straight up say "if you want this message to work don't cast Margot Robbie" or they refuse to have Ken's help run Barbieland and they just say "eh maybe some day". Anyone else still waiting for Achara to say "Hi Ken" back to Andrew?
OMG, you reminded me of my plots when I played with Barbies. It was also such a soap opera. The amount of backstabbing and sexy times that my Barbies had. Uff...
Greta is a genius and Margot is a gift.
The title intro is literally set up to say “bye baby! hi Barbie!” without words 😂 brilliant
Huh? Where?
@@DoubleBlack2.0 girls throwing the baby’s into the air because they’re saying goodbye to baby’s being their only dolls, and baby doll is blocked out by the intro of the Barbie title over top. So one could say it’s saying “bye baby,” followed with the title intro and as we all know the saying “hi Barbie!”
Being a Potterhead; when Ken shouts "Ken is me!!" going down the slide, it reminds me of Dobby squeeking "Dobby is free!!" at the end of COS. Their voices filled with wonder and joy!
Beautiful.
"Barbie has given Ken a sock!" 😂
Fun fact the daughter and her school friends are all named after the Bratz Dolls
I was a boy child, so I only had one Barbie and that was an ongoing battle!!!
Barbie is WBs biggest box office money maker so far…The Batman 2 will probably break that tho
What matters is how many accessories you had for Barbie 😄 Love Barbie Everything 💕
Didn't even have a Barbie. Had a Skipper, though, but prefered playing with cars, LEGO and my brothers Meccano. 🤷🏼♀️
@@flugsven I definitely had a mix growing up. Everything from Playing with mud outside, WWF wrestling with my brothers, PlayStation and my Barbies 😄
@@janel1386 Funny enough my kids got a (cheap) doll house with Barbie and Ken copies, and they loved playing with it! They never played with cars.. We shared our love for LEGO though!
Yup, we need the mix!
Oh my goodness. My Barbie story lines were soap opera stories too, lol. Only, I pretty much took them directly from Days of our Lives 😂
It's ironic that people will say "keep politics out of my video games" and "keep politics out of my toys".. they're probably the same people tbh. But it's silly to think not everything around us is political..
agreed! it cracks me up 😂
They don't understand what politics are. They think "politics" means "opinions I disagree with". If the video games and toys espoused their own personal politics, they'd be fine with it.
I know you guys already have a lot of things to react to. But please consider the Korean drama "Moving" as well. In Thailand, the new episode of this show airs on the same day as Ahsoka, so Wednesday has become my favorite day of the week for now. Highly recommended.
Sublime!

Fun fact:
John Cena wasn't supposed to be featured in Barbie, he just happened to be filming Fast X accross the street from where Margot was filming Barbie 😂
32:26
Yo Flash, did you just say - Margot "Robbery"? 😂😂
Achara I love your reaction and so much better with Andrew than with the other
This movie makes me so happy lol
I really enjoyed your reactions to this great movie. Helen Mirin was the narrator.
"I made Andrew dress appropriately, and we have some toys" - never have I checked what video I'm watching so fast
Whole story or adventure was mirroring the girl turning into adulthood in real life. And therefore, in many non-english speaking countries meanings just flies overhead and does not translated easily.
Justice for Midge!
Not a bad film. I like the humor. Weird Barbie was my favorite.
Loved this movie.. love from India 💗💗💗
You two REALLY GET the movie 😊😊❤
For me the whole idea of "why do this with Barbie, it's a kid's toy."
Okay, and there are plenty of other Barbie movies for that, this movie is made for other reasons.
Really looking forward to some Oppenheimer reactions when it finally comes out on streaming.
i feel like Simu Liu is overlooked in this movie
That turtle gif is looking more and more accurate
Love the last line in the movie. Just another perk of being a woman 🙈
Poor Barbie about to menstruate at some point. Mattel help her :,(
I'm hoping for Barbie 2
I think all the Mattel employees are escaped Allans!
Hi Barbies!!!
Hello Kens!!!
Hi Allan! 😂🧡
All real Barbie players sets and wardrobe. And,yes, discontinued Barbies.
I love intelligent people
Best Barbie movie ever
It was not what I expected, in the best way possible.
I just checked Amazon and it’s $25 just to rent!!!! Wtf!!!!
Blew my mind too, I figure it’s because it’s still in cinemas? Idk 🤷
@@marjanek1 yeah but not even to own it at that price is baffling to me, the audacity lol
It was cute. I understand the polical side and all the backlash but in the end all that aside it was still really cute. 👏👏👏
20 barbies!? and you havent seen it yet?
I think an Oscar snub is incoming for many categories that aren't visually based.
I had the release of the Barbie movie in the cinema and I enjoyed it very much and I liked it. There are also people who say that they didn't like the movie because it promotes hatred towards men 😢
What do you think about this?
I totally appreciate what they were going for but it was either too heavy handed or just didn't make much sense to me
@@zachsutton6195😂😂😂😂 its not at all confusing .. it is very clear what the movie want to say .
19:36 Funny how when the Kens take over you yap about a happy medium.
Well, yeah. A happy medium requires two extremes for comparison -- the medium is the point in between those extremes. Before the Kens took over, there was only one extreme, so there was no medium point to talk about.
@@IceMetalPunk There is no happy medium with feminism, just like there's no happy medium with the Klan, or Nazis, or The Nation of Islam. Here's what this movie reminds me of.

Funny 😅
They got out of jail without money because its California i mean just ask san Francisco how they are doing with crime right now
So, Ahsoka save Barbieland? Seems correct to me.
Lego is my toy.
sorry i'm a little suss of movie reviews where you don't recognize classic references like 2001 lol still, nice review :)
Its a shame you did not show the funny scene of Mattel chasing Barbie inbetwen the offices
Because it's childish and very much considered the worst directed scene of the movie by most.
@@Atlas_Redux l thought it was funny
Wait... Achara is a big Barbie fan, but instead of going to the theatre and watch it with the crowd, she waited to watch it here?
Can we, really, say Achara is a big Barbie fan?
I kinda feel bad for ken
Want Oppenheimer Reaction
Sorry to tell you this but if you don’t get the 2001 reference in the beginning, there’s a bunch of other stuff you’re going to miss.
20???!!!
Watch 2001.
28:47 So the Ken's get to run everything anyway.
BRATZ TFW Movie
❤❤❤❤
just gonna say, Andrew is so hot.
