Jaby and Michael have officially become my favorite movie duo‼️🔥🔥
I agree, their pairing is special.
They definitely carrying this channel
💯
Agreed! I get so excited when I see them reviewing and it’s always the best movies
Same!
Fun fact: after this movie was released, Queen Latifah put a no death clause in her future movie contracts because she understood how traumatic it was for her to act it out and how the audience received it. It was too heavy for her to deal with so if her character does have to die, it can’t be on camera and it can’t be gory.
It was after sphere in 1998 when she was killed by jellyfish.. but yes very true I would put one in my contract too😂. I need to be in all the sequels lol
@@BAMOORE94facts lol
So if The Bone Collector was after this, that explains it.
@@LadyTyger51ne bone collector came out in 1999 it was after
My momma suggested that y’all watch “Radio” with Cuba Gooding Jr. it’s based on a true story, and is really a tale or true kindness, and what someone with mental disabilities can do, when others believe in them.🥰
Guys, TT was played by Kimberly Elise, aka Helen from Diary of a Mad Black Woman. She is a great actress. This was her first movie.
Thank you for this! Amazing actress who is chronically overlooked.
Her in the Loretta Claiborne movie as a kid was what made me start following her career I think since then I watched anything she is in
Woman thou art loose as well 👌
she's amazing! I don't understand how she never got Oscar nominations, let alone wins. It's what I noticed about the actors Tyler Perry hires, they rarely get hollywood recognition or gigs outside of Tyler's projects. I'll always always appreciate Tyler for that. These black actors are better than over 60% of the white actors I've watched over the years.
I keep trying to remember what other movie I saw her in. If I couldn't remember I doubt they would to. To be honest this is the 1st time I have watched this movie from start to finish. I had only seen scenes here & there .
I am obsessed that you guys are continuing down this black cinema journey. This is one of my favorite movies!
Me too. It's good to see these movies getting "mainstream" audience attention for once.
In business school (b-school), my economic development professor used to say that poverty is the mother of all crime. I love how this movie echoes that sentiment.
Yeah, to me this movie is an allegory of the price of poverty and cause of crime.
“Even pastas straight until it gets wet” 😂🤣💀⚰️
Tehe 👉🏾👈🏾
I laughed so hard 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That definitely made my neck jerk 😂😂😂
my status now lolz
😅 I was like what😂😂
Cleo is the epitome of a crashout, which explains all of her actions and why she went out shooting the way she did. Queen Latifah did an amazing job with portraying her character.
Crash out is the best description of Cleo
You gotta crash out in that moment lol 😂 you going to prison forever ever
Queen Latifah got into trouble while filming this too. 😅
I remember her catching a weed case and being in club fights and a car jacking while she was "getting into character" for this role
Similar to how the chick from Girl Interrupted, caught that shoplifting case
This was such an unexpected notification I never clicked so fast yall. This film is a #1 hood classic movie in the black community and one of my favorite films of all time.
@ezelldaniels6064 this is not a number 1 hood classic
@@malikwilson7387 yes it is. Not necessarily number 1 but it's up there with a couple of them.
@@malikwilson7387How old are you? Cause this is definitely a top black classic. You can keep that hood propaganda.
@@nickbrooks2408 Exactly
Lol not number 1 but definitely a hood classic
Set It Off is a true American classic!.... I always love it when people are watching films for the first time that I grew up watching on repeat 😂😂
Righttt!
Black American classic tbh, or more of a hood classic rather. But sure...
@@MangaPupare black people NOT American? They compared this movie to countless “white” heist movies “Classic American” and we don’t have to say this. That was a weird statement.
@@michelle5802 how is it a weird statement lol? Maybe you have weird comprehension. The original person said it was a "true American classic", and I specified. Black American and hood culture are a sub-culture of American culture.
Like how Asian ppl often specify what kind of Asian something is. Or sometimes ppl specify the region of America something is, like "southern". Most Americans are white and that has been the standard/general culture since the country got going.
Ppl say things like "white movie" or in the same breath "American movie" unless it's a white specified ethnic group like a (white) Latin, Italian, or Irish.
@@michelle5802 How is my statement weird? Lol Maybe you just have weird comprehension. I specified because Black American and hood culture are sub-cultures of American culture.
Like how Asian ppl specify what kind of Asian something is, Chicano culture is often referred to as such, or how some ppl refer to a region of America for what something is like "southern".
Most Americans are white, and unless a (white) ethnic group is specified, the collective/general culture is what is referred to.
F. Gary Gray directed this movie right after he directed Friday. He's the guy in the car with the hydrolics making fun of Cleo. "Up. Up, Up" I love his movies.
John Q is also a must see
My top fave Denzel movie hands down.
Yes!
Hell yes

Yesss I was gonna comment that!!!!
A thin line between love and hate. A Martin Lawrence classic

May seem simple, but I really appreciate it when you guys recognize the actors from previous movies. It feels like you're paying attention to the characters. It also allows you to see their range. Great reaction. Thank you!
Same
My mom saw this in theaters. She said she was so traumatized and she has never watched it again😢 I cry literally every single time .. great movie and a true classic in most black families ❤
It traumatized a lot of us. I was a teen when it came out. It's still a fave but I can't watch all the time. This was a better way for me to see it again, years later.
This is my first time watching it all the way through in one sitting
I was the opposite. I actually worked at a movie theater when this came out and every time I had a break I would go stand in the back of the theater to watch the audience reactions to scenes. I saw this sooo many times lol.
I also watched this film in the cinema-GREAT-movie too. Most of the film's cast dying was realistic tho ( I'm assuming the show-runners didn't want to glamorize robbing banks,so,they showed the consequences of criminal acts ) in 1996 I was in the army, stationed at Ft Hood,Tx ( since renamed Ft Cavazos ) and every one was talking about this film and which female characters they liked the best. This was one of the only films starring 4 black, female leads in a major movie, until Gang of Roses ( came out Oct-2003 ) no a bad film.Then-GIRLS-TRIP-came along ( July-21-2017 ) which is also a-GREAT-film.
It still makes me laugh and cry.. must be the 10th time I watched it
The Five Heartbeats ❤

I was going to comment this. This is my favorite movie. It’s a classic
As a black girl born in the 90’s, I am enjoying you two watch these movies SO much!! BABY BOY, The Wood, and Love and Basketball WOULD BLOW YOUR MIND😂😂😂
Cleo’s death gets me to this day, Queen tore that up! Absolute perfection. That song gives me chills to this day.
It was a perfect scene.
Ikr? One of the most memorable scenes in the film to me & yes, that scene always gave me chills, especially when that song comes in. I still think that this is Queen's best performance, same with Kimberly Elise & maybe Jada & Vivica as well. Blair Underwood & John C. McGinley are always good.
Cleo*
Yes 😢
"Even pasta's straight until it gets wet." And then the look into the camera. Oh you ate that Michael lmao
I really hope these drops continue to get the channel viewership, likes, engagement, etc.
Anyone can react to these movies. But yall continuously treat them with respect and honesty.
It’s been a joy to watch yall on this journey through Black cinema.
Respect.
That is what I get from them, too.
I concur every sentiment expressed
You articulated this very well. I couldn’t put my finger on what I enjoyed about these two and put it into words.
Well said! I find myself constantly coming back to this channel because of how genuine they come off when reacting to our fav classics.
The respect part! Many of us grew up watching these films. They mean a lot to the culture, and these two reactors get it ♥️✨️
"Where have you been?" "I took the bus." EXCELLENT foreshadow for Jada's escape.
Surprised u guys didn't recognize Kimberly Elise from her role in Diary of a mad black woman. Latifah roles are incredible. Several films like Just Wright and Last Holiday would be good choices. But her movie catalog is incredible.
Can we please get WAITING TO EXHALE 🙏🏻 🥹
Yes!!
Ohhhh yes and The Preacher's Wife
Yes. Both of these please.
YES PLEASE
Agreed!
I cannot express how happy it makes me that you guys not only are even reacting to these movies, but you’re actually putting the effort in to UNDERSTAND them on a deep level. Like, nooo words. Thank u guys and please keep them coming
Also, Jaby just gets it, with the scene where Cleo tells Stoney and Frankie to get out of the car in the tunnel. That moment when Stoney goes to embrace Cleo after she tells them she'll catch up with them later and they both tear up, was like a gut punch to me because they both knew, in that instant, the chance of that happening wasn't at all likely.
The same for the hug Stoney and Frankie shared right before the split at the gate. The same as the kiss Stoney placed on TeTe before leaving her body in the car.
The way this story built their connections and sisterhood, made every moment that much more palpable. Their excitements, hopefulness, heightened fears, disappointments, sorrows, regrets...etc. I saw this movies countless times, starting when I was a teen in the 90s. It took me seeing it as a woman in my mid 30s who has experienced enough of these character's emotions and now hold a deeper understanding of sisterhoods.
The emotions were so high and the stakes even higher. At some point, they just decide to fully commit after going from one level to the next of "well there's no turning back from this, now that we've done that, so we might as well keep on going" all the way to the moment they're busting down the freeway with cops tailing and helicopters looming, wanted for robbery and murder.
The guts, the heart, the intensity, the commitment. In those moments I was with them...and for other brief moments, in my mind, I WAS them. I was fully SWEPT, emotionally spent and, dammit, crying right along with Stoney in that damn hotel room feeling like, I too, had just lost my sisters.
And a movie that does THAT?? Whew!
Whew this made me cry, I was too young to fully understand why this movie felt so real to me. I know these women. I understand their motivations more now going into my late 20s. Honestly, brilliant
@@SimplyRaecosmetics I feel that. There's just something so vulnerable yet so beautiful and freeing about letting yourself get lost in a film and really connecting with its story and characters.
Stoney’s face on the bus forever breaks my heart.
Yes same to me
“Two Can Play That Game” with Vivica Fox and “ Last Holiday” with Queen Latifah are great movies 💗

What is making your reactions to these classic Black movies is the breakdowns at the end. Seeing you guys asking questions about certain culture nuances being introduced to certain superstars with the Black community is really the gem in all of this.
19:31 dang this actress always gets me when she cries! She is a great actress everytime i see her in anything I want to hug her lol
This movie is a prime example as to why we in the Black community are mad that our works are not acknowledged. This movie is nothing shy of oscar-worthy, with oscar-worthy performances. And do you think it got one nomination, let alone any wins? Exactly.
Exactly!!!!
I feel like removing the racial aspect to the cop's arc oversimplifies his character. I think HE thought he was just 'all about his job' but letting one of them go for sympathy literally doesn't make sense for his character. He was faced with his unconscious bias by seeing how the local cops just immediately unload on every black perp no questions. He didn't try to bring perps back alive until after killing the boy. He makes that one change, and it showed him how the cop bias is actually racial bias. He let stoney go because the weight of all that bloodshed left him guilty. He feels responsible for turning her life upside down and leading her down this desperation path into crime.
Yes, yes and yes!
Letting Stoney go is within his character. He's a detective that is suppose to investigate criminals. Stevie was not only innocent of the robbery but he also was squeaky clean even after losing both of his parents. The money is insured and Stoney has already lost everything. He owed Stoney because of what he did to her brother. He basically delivered street restitution to Stoney.
He also realized he played a critical role in Frankie becoming a bank robber because she was the brains. She could have blew him away since she knew it was over for her but with nothing to lose she still spared him. Why not show Stoney the same grace??
It isn't racial bias
It was obviously racially biased. That's how the show started off in the first place. The bank got rubbed by black men, and a black woman who so happens to come from the same hood got the heat, even tho there were other bank teller there who could have pushed the silent alarm when they saw men with guns😒. Franky, A.K.A Vivica A. Fox, was the only one to get fired and her boss literally told her, he was uncomfortable with her "being friends" with one of the perps 🙄, it started out racially biased. That's what kept the detective thinking franky was involved in the robbery even when she wasn't.
@@danerook the whole movie is an exaggeration of how racism pushes ppl to go to extremes. TT white boss having no sympathy for her having a kid and docking her pay. Social services taking her child. Frankie being fired from her job of 2 years. Stony brother being falsely identified and then him being shot grabbing a bottle(something that still happens today) The boss running off w the money. All of that pushed them to a life of crime. It’s an allegory for real black ppl around those surroundings. A lot of us feel like we can’t catch a break and turn to crime for material satisfaction and to relieve the stress of struggle.
Have you guys not recognized the actress who plays the mom? It's Kimberly Elise from The Diary Of a mad black woman. She's the mad black woman scorned. She was super young here.
This is what leveling up with the choices and reactions looks like. Jaby and Mike…you guys are in a sweet spot right now! Hitting all of the Black movie classics?!?! Fire 🔥🔥🔥

It’s funny because when yall started watching more black films I was thinking that you guys should react to Set It Off then boom here it is. Love y’all’s videos
It was only a matter of time
10:20 The way Jaby laughs...I believe him 100% that he almost passed out laughing on a weed cookie 😂
Omg this really warms my heart that you guys are watching these classics that a lot of us grew up on and you really pay attention and not disregard it as just a black cinema ❤ Thank you and keep em coming cuz I enjoy your takes on them ❤
Funny enough
Queen Latifah (Cleo)

She is currently married to her wife, and they have a child together .
This movie has some of thw msot fanous black woman in Hollywood.
Queen Latifah

Jada Pinkett-Smith
Actress, model, singer
Vivica A Fox
Kimberly Elise ( Diary of a mad black woman)
This movie is a straight up Black American and/or hood classic 💯🙌🏾😁.
Some ppl call it a "true American classic" and feel that specifying like i did to be weird. I disagree. It's a discredit (for lack of a better word) to mesh experiences/perspectives specifically tied to a certain group as everyone's. I just mean there's a reason we specify.
Black American/hood culture are sub-cultures of American culture. Like how Asian ppl specify what kind of Asian something is such as Korean, Thai, Indian, etc...Chicano culture is often referred to as such and not simply as American culture. And some ppl refer to a region of America for culture like "southern".
Most Americans are white, and unless an ethnic group is specified, the collective/general culture is what is referred to.
😮yo!!!! My new favorite channel along with my favorite reactors along with one of my favorite movies!!!!...MADE MY NIGHT ❤
Black movie classics on Fridays and Tuesdays ❤❤❤
Is that what they’re doing now
@ I’m just requesting that they do 😂
No matter how many times I watch this movie, still leaves me with the same feeling 😩
You guys!!! It's so freaking awesome yall are watching these movies. No reactors ever watch them. 😊😊
“It’s a wonder they didn’t get a sequel” 😂😩
Set It Off Again has been a funny internet rumor for years but I remember sneaking to watch this for the first time (as a kid) because my mom’s best friend would say I looked like a “little Jada Pinkett” and I felt insulted because I’m a kid and don’t know who that is. My older cousin lifted the key to the cabinet (where anything rated R was) so she could show me the movie and I’d stop being offended, it worked 90s Jada was chef’s kiss 🤌🏽✨
'these Columns are made of columns" side salad kills me yall. LOL
@@billclay9489 LOL are we really committing to calling him side salad? Cuz that is hilarious. I saw the comment on one of their previous reactions
@@danielled8652 LOL He first mentioned it on a tyler petty movie and I loved it. Im not calling him that out of disrepect. Im calling him that because he said it and its funny. i love it. He needs to trademark it. LOL
He cracks me up! 😂
"Side salad" 😂😂😂 love that name for him
😂😂
