    I do like the fact that they changed the type of bird scuttle is because that species actually hoards objects for its nest. The only downside is that the bird talks underwater… it can briefly swim underwater to catch fish but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have gills😂

      Her chemistry with Eric was terrible, what on earth are you talking about

  • @moanystrom3531

    Basically, Ariel is the first one to put a spell on Eric when she uses her Siren-song to save him, so his obsession to find "the girl" is because he's already enchanted by her voice. It's why we can hear her singing in the background of 'Uncharted Waters'.
    Then, when Eric is properly introduced to Ariel and has gotten to know her, it's evident that his fondness of Ariel overshadows his obsession. He falls in love with the real person infront of him, instead of the idea of "the girl with the voice", thus the siren-song sort of loses it's power over him.
    When Vanessa (Ursula) then appears and uses Ariels voice again to get him under her spell, he's hesitant and confused because in his heart he's already in love with Ariel as a person, and not her voice.
    I love that change because it proved that Ariels voice had very little to do with them actually getting together in the end.

    • @lilybethkuhn9650
      @lilybethkuhn9650 Год назад +2

      Was that also in the original? Usually siren songs are different and he could see her face for a little. He also slowly fell for Ariel. Idk so many different fake mermaid stories out there it makes me confused

    • @moanystrom3531
      @moanystrom3531 Год назад +28

      @@lilybethkuhn9650 No, it wasn't in the original HCA-story, nor in the OG disney-movie. It's explained a few times in the movie, most obviously when Sebastian mentions that she used her siren-song to save him and in the lyrics to Eric's song, but there are quite a few examples.
      In this 2023 version specifically, it's pretty clear that he doesn't see her face because of the way he immediately "knows" it's not her when she's introduced to him, while in the animated one, Eric sort of recognizes her until he realize she can't speak (also Vanessa (human Ursula) is made to look like Ariel).

    • @fabiofuoco
      @fabiofuoco Год назад +6

      I mean, it’s the same in the animated movie, but with extra steps. Ariel’s voice was just very beautiful, and Eric still was obsessed with it, before realizing his true feelings for Ariel.
      I’m not a fan of over convoluted plots that could just be simple, but I don’t mind this change per se.

    So there's an official comic that establishes how: a. Ursula realises Ariel is Tritan's weakness, b. gets that monster carcass home and c. explains that there are more half human beings than the mermaids in the waters, they're just so isolated (purposefully) that the mermaids have forgotten they exist. It also established that Ariel's oldest sister is the crown Princess, who will succeed Tritan and rule the oceans one day. So Ursula thinking she deserved the throne isn't just her talking - there seems to be a precedent to this. If they'd incorporated that it may also have explained why Tritan's daughters look so different and how Ursula and Tritan (and Morgana I guess if you count the animated sequel) are siblings yet look so different

Halle brought Ariel to life, and Disney paid homage to Hans Christian Anderson and Jodi Benson. I went to see this twice in theaters with people all all ages, genders, and races and there was a round of applause at the end of each viewing. I love this movie. The siren this is definitely cannon, in the original it’s in the subtext, Ariel’s voice was used to literally bewitch the Prince when Ursula used it, also notice when Eric was drowning in the original and Ariel saved him, she never gave him cpr or first aid, she just dropped him on the beach after pull him out of the water. There is no way that man’s lungs would not be flooded😂 so it’s believable her voice has healing properties. I think the idea behind her voice is that it’s the intention, Ariel would not even know she was a siren if she sings for herself and out of love instead of control

    In a world of fantasy all things are possible. The original animated movie is it's own movie and I love it. This is obviously a new version, an adaptation. We adults ruin things , imagine when we were young and a bunch of cynical people kept nitpicking at everything. Comparing the animated movie to the book and complaining.
    I watched this movie with my niece and nephew (8 and 10 years old) and I realized why progress can be so slow. Watching my niece and nephew, their eyes glued to the screen, the absolute attention and joy, the big smile at seeing representation (we are LatinX and our family has all different hues, white-black and everything in-between). They watched the movie the way I watched the animated one.
    Please don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to have their opinion and have a reaction but it saddens me how we - the adults are bringing all of our adult cynicism to the movie.

    Guys it’s Disney it’s not supposed to represent real life or realistic feelings. And Eric’s song was great, was it necessary? No but it was still cool to see more of him and how he was feeling as an individual rather than him just being a secondary character in Ariel’s story. They made him an individual with his own thoughts, feelings and goals. He was just a pretty boy with whom Ariel loved without reason. Also it’s pretty established in the first film that what initially drew Eric in to aril was her siren song, so hen he meets Vanessa (the sea witch in disguise) and hears Ariel’s voice he retreats into the siren song again, even though at this stage he’s already really falling for Ariel without the magic of her voice. Also I’m assuming Ursula used a spell on him and I’m glad that in this version Eric is not totally under her spell, he seems more confused than anything else.

Also you guys should do a rewatch of the og because the things you think they were hammering in here, were actually not explained or shown well in the og. Like they actually showed here why Ariel and Eric had a connection in the first place, he's drawn to the sea while she's drawn to the land. And nothing felt dragged out to me, they had to add scenes to show their romance blossoming naturally and organically. Like having Ariel not remember she had to kiss him made it so much more real and believable. And I loved the for the first time song, it's her learning about everything she wanted to understand, like the fire and her realizing it hurts.

    Eric was under the spell of her siren song, hence his song and infatuation. Then he fell in love with Ariel without her voice for who she is and Ursula used her siren song to spell him again. He’s not flip flopping. Scuttle bug is the only addition I dislike. Everything else improves the animation greatly!!! Love that Ariel got an additional song and the reprise. Love that their relationship got additions to show how they are alike and why they would connect so quickly and easily without the siren song. Love the looking at the stars moment and Kiss The Girl. Love the moment in the castle after. Love that he hugged her closer after the mermaid reveal. Ariel and Jonah had awesome chemistry and this is the first Disney live action remake where I wish they would make a sequel whether it was a live action of the sequel that exist or something new.

Actually very consistent with The Little Mermaid, there aee multiple instances in the series and other movies were Marine animals even ones that cant breathe underwater talk underwater, like whales and Dolphines and Melodys 2 sidekicks - both mammals, cant breath water (ones a peguine) still talk underwater

  • @needyverse
    @needyverse Год назад +8

    People (not me) have always had a problem with Eric being “one-dimensional” and their relationship being “based on very little” (again, I disagree), so I understand why this movie added more time in order to handle both. I feel the animated movie has enough going on in montages that you can draw conclusions, but I also think the same run time and amount of character work in live-action would draw criticisms.

    I disagreed with y’all so much on this one🤣🤣 it’s ok lol but I just don’t see the reason why they can’t add on and add new songs. Like the scaddlebut song was so cute and just felt like a nice transition song. It also just added that Caribbean feel that this movie is taking place in. I feel like a lot of the times you guys come in with already negative thoughts of a movie and then once they do something you slightly don’t like, you guys make a joke of it or just straight up say you don’t like it without really giving it thought… obviously this is in the moment reactions but like cmon, be more open minded plzzz. Either way I’ll still watch ur vids cuz I still think we have the same opinions lol. But I’m human and I have emotions ok😭

    I dig the minor changes to certain song's like in the animated version part of your world the iconic line "thingyobobs I have plenty" was changed to "thingyobobs I have twenty" in the live action version, not to mention in Ursula's song they changed it from a magic scroll to Ariel's scale in the bowl (essentially a blood contract)

Got a doll, a book, the soundtrack…this movie should have done a billion. Some people hated this movie before it was even released due to their racism . Complaining about everything possible from her hair color to to crab 🦀, to the costumes, to the choice in casting…oh and Scuttle is not a seagull in this version, but another type of bird that can breathe underwater for short periods.
