Thanks you. You just turned me an engineer. I can't believe I had the gut to open my machine to clean. It stopped sewing and upper thread cutting with lil time to finish clients' project. My machine is rebirth. Thanks

I would have never been able to fix my Stylist that a friend gifted me after finally giving up on it (do to it not working properly) if not for this video’s amazing close up video quality of the machine’s inner screw and spring placements👍🏻. Ps. The joy of seeing you restoring something someone else gave up on was very satisfying as well🙂.

I thought this would be a tutorial. I have the same one and it’s a pricey sewing machine. According to the manual, this specific machine doesn’t require oiling. It states it should never be oiled. I guess this is for the other people who think it’s okay to oil it should they decide to deep clean their 9960 machine.

And I thought I was going to be a successful RUclips star… alas, things don’t usually work out like we expect. 😅
Yes you should definitely take care of your machine how you see fit. For me, if there’s metal rubbing against metal or plastic and there’s space for lubricants, I will lightly lubricate. Especially after finding this machine in this condition.

How much ya wanna bet the person who donated that to the thrift store thought it was broken, and it was really because of all the lint?:-)

It was nice to see that machine nice and clean but it sounded ‘clattery’ when you ran it. Mine is very smooth and quiet when clean.

Yeah, it was a little clunky. I wouldn’t even know how to begin to fix that. However, the machine worked perfectly for a long while on some projects, and then I just sold it

I know the manual says for us not to oil it, but i figured that they just want the repair companies to do so we don't over oil it. Anyways, is that the only two places this model needs oil at? I have the same machine has been going great for years now. I clean it out where i can reach, but your video makes me want to open that sucker up 😆

    • @kraftaculousgreekgodofcraf1113

I feel like maybe machines built not to be oiled had a long lasting oil that doesn’t need oil put on top and ruin it or something? But what do you do if lint and fuzz obviously is stuck in the oily parts, or it’s been longer than the oil could handle and it’s hardened or gummed up?
If I find a machine that needs some lovin’, I remove any sticky or gummed up oil / grease and clean and then anything that moves or slides against metal on metal or plastic gets grease and oil… 🙂
I’m sorry I didn’t do a thorough video. I don’t have the machine anymore, but if you are adventurous enough to get at least one side off or the bottom, basically anything that moves or slides against each other I would oil it and if it looks like there’s gears rotating into other gears maybe put fresh grease on those , and clean them

How do you get the side plate off, the large plastic piece with the S? I took the screw out, but it still will not come off. The start function will not engage. Just making sure it’s not dirty.

I'm so terrible, sorry for reading this so late.. I sold the machine but if I remember there was the one screw and there is a plastic latch on the top? you just need to be careful so you don't break it but the cap will come off if you either use a plastic stick to pry a little where the top catches or also push upward and outward. But be careful! I'm so sorry I just saw this..

HELP! SOS! I am currently in Mexico. I brought my sewing machine with because I enrolled in sewing classes prior to leaving US. My turn wheel is starting to make creaking noise. Its getting slightly harder to turn. The technicians (sewing machine) in this part of Mexico do not work on digital sewing machines. I am intimidated🐔 to take apart machine. Can you refer me to an online resource that can guide me as to what to do and where to oil? Please🙏

Hi Hansel! I sold the machine after I fixed it, but as far as I know, a sewing machine usually stops, because the bobbin winder isn’t pushed all the way back, the bobbin thread is giving too much tension, and most likely the thread gets tangled at the spool holder Which happens a lot, so check the thread from the spool and make sure it can travel freely, also try different threads and needles. Sorry I don’t know more. 🙂

Hi, I just bought Singer 9960 from US and I live in India. Accidentally plugged the new device into 220V input. Got an orange indicator and machine is not working after that. Please help

Hi, unfortunately I have no experience in voltages - I am not an electronics engineer, however there may be a fuse that was blown that possibly if replaced could fix the situation but also you really shouldn’t be using motors that are designed in 120 V machine on a 220 V supply even with a transformer you should either switch the machine to 220 if it has the option or just purchase a 220 V machine sorry I couldn’t be of more help
