My bobbin case was catching on the bed. I put a drop of oil between metal and plastic and it was like magic. Thank you so much, your video was/is priceless. 💖
I knew from the manual that there was no need to oil the machine. But now, a bit more than 1 year since I have it, it started making some strange noises and I knew it was time to bring it to get a service done asap. Then I finally found your video !! Thank you so much for showing exactly where to oil. I did this and now it is working much much better, the noises are gone. I´ll bring it to get a service done for the other parts, where I don´t reach, but now I can use it for the next time without worrying anymore. THANKS ! 🥰
Did you know that with the universal foot, the spring pin on the right side is used much like the the jumper accessory for sewing over heavy seams! I had no idea what that was for until Singer told me to watch a RUclips video on that AND what I also learned is there is a white accessory shank that came with my 9960 that you use with the Zipper foot! My manual did not say nor did I find video info on that! No wonder my zipper foot, in my opinion was awful as when trying to use for zipper installation, the foot would wobble and be inconsistent in stitching using the standard shank. Singer Rep. tipped me off to change the shank to the white one and WAA LAA, like night n day difference! I believe in Karma and several recent good deeds I’ve done for folks was repaid by my Singer Rep. helping me out so I’m sharing this information. Also, nice video,
Oh, wish the 9960 had a throat plate with better indicator stitching lines extending in front of the foot and mark them 1/4, 3/8, etc. and also the option of a single hole throat plate so as to hell eliminate bird nests. Oh, when cleaning my machine, I use a clean mascara brush with a teeny tiny bit of oil to lubricate the bristles and does that ever work to pick out lint!!!!
Thank you for your comment. Yes, the white shank goes with the extra baggie of feet. I didn't realize you could use it with the zipper foot. I will try that. Thanks for the tip!
I have this machine & always use the automatic threader. I love it! I can't see to thread it otherwise. You have to make sure the needle is raised as high as it will go, then press the needle threader button. Pull the thread under the hook and over in front of the needle between those grooves & slowly release. It won't work if the needle is not in the highest position.
Thank you for this video. It was very thorough in what you do to maintain which I appreciate. Do you still have this machine? Do you still like it? I'm considering it. I primarily sew with knits though.
I'm considering buying this machine for my wife for Christmas. The Sewing Machine Repair Guy likes it, and it appears you do, too! My wife wants to get more into quilting. Is this a good choice, or should I consider something over $1000?
I recommend this machine for quilting. It comes with a lot of presser feet, which help with many sewing tasks, both sewing clothes and quilting. I have pieced and quilted king sized quilts on this machine. Because of the limited throat space, it was difficult but not impossible. If you roll up your quilt properly, it will fit under the throat space adequately. I think my next machine will be a Juki, because of the throat space, but that is considerably more expensive than the Quantum Stylist 9960. You can't beat the price of the 9960. Good luck with your wife's gift!
I just purchased one too; but I'm worried that the pressure foot A is really loose and there is a little screw that is located on the back and I was confused and wondering why the pressure foot A is really loose - or is it just that way?
My new Quantum Stylist keeps bunching my fabric, today it forced my fabric into the bobbin/needle well, the fabric was stuck inside the well. Any suggestions as to what is wrong?
Thank you for your comment. Try starting sewing in the middle of the piece and work towards the edges, instead of starting on the edge. When I start on the edge, my material gets pulled in sometimes too.
Mam v nice video. Plz can u share more video about this machine.i have this machin but i found it a little difficult to use.so plz share more videos about its more functions .i shall be thankful to you.from pakistan
I appreciate your video! Can I ask a question about tension? I have the same machine, and I'm finding it hard to get the stitches looking normal consistently. Right now the fabric looks like I sewed it upside down! The bobbin thread is showing on top making little notches, and the underside looks beautiful. Then even if for some reason it works back to being normal stitching, once I change to a different color of a thinner thread, I have the mess start all over again. Do you know how to get it back to normal stitches on top? Thank you, Phoenix AZ
I tried clicking on the tension button, and tried using 10, and also 4 on the settings, they both didn't work. :( but even if it worked to adjust the stiching, I feel like the sewing machine shouldn't need to be adjusted each time I turn it on, or switch from straight to zigzag stich. It should just sew normally! Why are machines so hard lol
Hello there! Thank you for your comment. I always use the default tension settings, and they don't seem to need adjusting. I do, however, always have to use a high quality sewing thread and I have to use the same weight thread in the top thread as I do in the bobbin thread, or else I get yucky stitches. Thread I have bought at Walmart or in generic kits results in poor stitches for me, and as I said if I use a different kind of thread in the top and bottom. Hope this helps you and thanks for watching my video!
Boy, I am struggling with this machine. I paid for an authorized repair in June but it’s happening again and it’s no longer covered. I don’t seem to be getting the thread to sit properly in the tension discs so it grabs and releases grabs and releases. Any idea how to get that right? I’m following the steps one through five but between four and five I get a hitch in my giddyup. Anyone have any ideas or can you direct me to another video? I like your video and am now subscribed! Thank you!
Is your presser foot in the up position when you are threading your machine? If the presser foot is down, that will create the problem you described. Thank you for subscribing and commenting.
My Brother machine has a function 'my stitch' where I can design my own stitches and add them permanently. Does this machine have that function? If not, does any Singer have it? Thanks. Also, it's hard to concentrate on what your saying because of the rings reflected in your glasses. LOL
Hello! Thank you for your comment. No, the 9960 does not have that function, and I looked over the Singer product line and I did not see any with that function.
Thank you for your comment. Per the Singer web site, "Bobbin Class (15 Transparent) - SINGER or INSPIRA branded bobbins are recommended for best results."
Беки,чтоб было удобно заправлять нитку в иглу. 1) надо опустить лапку вниз . 2) иголку опустить, но не доводить до папки. 3) нитку заправляем за крючок и опускаем. Ниточка сама ьудет в иголки!
Thank you for your comment. Page 100 of the manual says "There is no need to oil this machine." I, however, choose to oil mine, and feel that it keeps my machine in good working order.
After having my machine 10 years, I finally took it apart to oil it (I found a few good videos on YT to watch and learn how). There are four different points inside that need oiling. The machine runs like it is brand new. It is so quiet now. This is what would happen if you brought it in for servicing. I live very far from a Singer servicer, so never did. I think the manual says this to give service centers business - and the electronics in the machine do make it more complicated when opening it up for the average person.
But, I’ve seen other video tutorials on this machine, and it’s absolutely fine…I even called Singer, and she said once a month for sewing everyday, I did get some from Amazon, maybe 5$?…I think it’s a little less quiet 💕

When I purchased my 9960 my auto threader was defective so I had to take to shop and they ordered a whole new part. Now it works great

Yes I agree you need to use good quality thread at top and bottom.
Thank you for the video. I am considering getting this model. Would you get it today?
Oh, yes. It is a great value for the money. It comes with a lot of presser feet as well.
I bought my 9960 6 years ago and I love this machine. I swear it works just like my mom's expensive babylock.

Hello, and thank you for your comment. It is a Horn sewing cabinet table model 5280 with the drawer cabinet model 5180.

is it better than Singer 4423?
Thank you for your question. I like the 4423 but the 9960 has more presser feet included and also has an automatic thread cutter.
I usually place a piece of paper under the needle so it won't fall into the machine...
Thank you for your comment. I wish I had thought of that.
