Hi there, thanks for posting this video with the high quality visuals. Just like Leah (comment below) I am also struggling with my 9960 when it comes to FMQ. There seems to be a problem with upper tension. I decreased it several notches but my bobbin still gets ripped up. Also, I am not sure about the stitch length. Another video suggested the length to be increased to 3. I would really appreciate your input
Thank you for this video. I have the same machine but have been struggling with FMQ. I wish I could say your video helped me, but I think it would if my machine was behaving. My machine works just fine with the feed dogs up and sewing a straight line, but I spent 3 hours this morning watching videos and trying to figure what I may have been doing wrong. Fed and refed both the bobbin and the top feed of my machine. I've changed the thread and the needle. I did manage to get about 6 stitches FMQ and everything after that was garbage. It was like the top and bottom stitches weren't connecting. Lots of time the needle would poke a hole in the fabric and pull up nothing. I'm sorry for writing a letter in your comments, but I'm just so frustrated, but something that should be easy.
I just got done watching almost all the videos on the singer 9960! I’m am so thankful for the video series, I now understand my sewing machine better. Thank you so much! I would recommend this channel for anybody who sews or wants to learn to sew.
I have the same machine and I had some problems also with the tension. Sometimes loops and sometimes too tight and top thread is breaking. I took the needle plate off and dusted everything ,with the plate off I put a bobbin back in to watch what was happening as I turned the hand wheel and noticed that the bobbins themselves had some jagged plastic on the outside of wheel that the thread was jamming on. I ordered the singer brand and hope this will help. I also read in a singer troubleshooting guide that you can buy a item called a “bobbin washer” that will help the bobbin glide easily. Hope this helps.
As long as I have been sewing since I was 13 & I turned 70 on 22nd I have never ever washed a bobbin, now I have oiled the bobbin casing I guess you call it that pull the bobbin out and put the tiniest drop of oil. In these newer sewing machines I have learned to only pull the thread out to the left it does something inside don't know exactly but my Babylock Ellure did the same thing I bought it used & put it in the shop for repair that was how I found out and in the book for the Singer 9960 it says the same thing. Mind you sometimes the thread will go straight up in there where you can't grab it and have no choice but to pull it out to the right ( that is a tough one I figured out). I still love commerical sewing machines the best but I don't make infant clothing anymore so no need. So far I love this machine & I love my Janome Serger I bought it off HSN a couple years ago that thing is fast it reminds me of a commercial machine I give it a heavy foot. For the jagged plastic on the bobbin keep a fingernail file close by use the delicate side lightly go over the rough part of plastic it will smooth it every time ( does work!! )
I know the 9960 is a low shank machine. For ruler work, I know it would be a low shank ruler foot. But what is the width of this ruler foot? Also, what thickness of ruler does it take? Do you have any ruler work videos?
Thank you for your guidance and all the description! I have a doubt/ question, iam confused about which foot should we use to make the stich number 103 ? Can you help?
i am so confused what sewing machine to buy. for quilting...everything i see says the brother cs7000i is really good but there isnt really any videos, then i see this singer quantum and it looks nice but i have seen so many bad reviews. i can not afford one that is expensive. i do not want to buy one i will regret. could someone please tell me what they recommend best for quilting.
@@cindykoob6886 I ended up getting the cs7000i because it was on rollback at walmart and I decided I will learn to sew with a decent more cheaper machine. Then gradually get better and buy a expensive one. Its really good, But I did have alot of trouble trying to sew a bigger size quilt with it. That was my only issue. But I knew it would happen since it's a smaller machine. I hope you figure out what to get. The cs7000i is a great beginner machine. I love it.
I am having the same problem as other users. My upper thread shreds after i have been FMQ for just a few seconds. I have changed needles, I have purchased high end thread, I have adjusted the tension and nothing seems to work. Please if there is anyone out there that can help I would really appreciate it. I bought this machine so that I could quilt, so far I am very disappointed.

There are a lot of questions people have asked about fmq and ruler work. It would be nice to get some answers!

Does this come with a quilting needle?

Can any recommend a laser light for this machine. Thank you.
I follow the instructions but the fabric doesn’t move along with the stitching
Do you have to lower the feeding dogs?
