That’s it! After about 10 of your videos I keep saying this guy reminds me of somebody. You remind me of Ben Affleck in Good Will hunting, Or the Town. I’m sure it’s the first time you’ve ever heard that. 😂 keep up the great work, because of you I’m redoing my entire paver sidewalk myself and putting in a new burn pit. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos and saving people across the country thousands and thousands of dollars.
🤣🤣👍 That's awesome man! I have got that a couple times 🤣. I am glad you like the videos and helping people across the country with projects like this was my goal, so that's great people are getting the information they are looking for ✌
If it wasn't for your tips who knows how crappy our first paver patio would turn out lol. Thanks for posting this. Much love from Southern California ❤️.
I have a paver project much smaller than yours. Have never done pavers before, so watching you guys is a great benefit to me. Just got a cement saw today. Glad to see it's what you use too - except this one is electric, & not gas like yours. Hope it will do my small job before burning out. Thanks for the education. My project may not end up as nice as yours, but I learned a lot.
I'm glad the videos have been helpful! This work is all about taking your time and doing every step to best of your abilities. I'm sure your result will be great. Good luck with your project and thanks for the feedback! ✌
I enjoy learning and watching your channel. Man, that circle is flawless. Awesome job on the cuts. On your next one, i would suggest showing us how you calculate the measurements to close the gaps between pavers and how to draw the lines on the paver before it's ready to cut. Not sure if that makes sense lol. Keep making videos. They are great!!!
That is awesome to hear! I love making custom inlays like this. I typically just eyeball the angles while using my square to mark the cuts. But I will try to include more of the though process in the future ✌
I need to pass a gas plumbing and electrical conduit underneath the paver. Should I lay it over my base layer? Could you please share any video where you have done something similar. Really appreciate all your effort
Depending on where you are, you may have to dig those 18" deep. I know around here in Massachusetts, those need to be buried at 18". So that would be deeper than the base stone. At which point you 90 degree it up at the point you want it to come up in the patio
Thank you, I agree that you don’t see much quality out there. It’s inspired me to make this channel really. Not the best teacher but I try to get my point across. I definitely love this work! ✌🏻
You should try one of the cordless saws. I love the Stihl but the Dewalt and Milwaukee are so much easier in the back. I got the Dewalt for an interior project - never thought I would use it as much as I do. It has become the go to saw even though it’s limitation is the 9” blade.
I have used them a couple times, they are incredible for their size without a doubt. But I love the power of the TS-420. It is a bit heavy after awhile but it cuts through things far quicker.... I plan on buying one of those saws someday though. It is a great secondary saw and excellent for training people on. 👌✌
First off let me say I love that you're teaching us all how you do this beautiful work. I watch your channel now all the time trying to learn from your experiences. I noticed you were wearing a surgical mask cutting those pavers. While this may help slightly, you should wear an N95. All you have to do is look up silica dust and the long term damage is does to your lungs. Sorry man, I'm in healthcare and since you're informing us I hope I helped you. Stay safe and continue on with the excellent work.
Thank you very much for the feedback! It is my pleasure to share the work with you all. And you are completely right, I am guilty of not protecting myself from that dust as much as I should. I have heard some scary things about it, So I appreciate you looking out for us and I will get some N95's next time I am out. God Bless brother ✌
Love the videos!! Thank you so much for teaching us the right way to hardscape. You guys are true craftsman. Curious, what are your thought on using panels for the paver base? Please get Benny to quite smoking!!!! God Bless
Glad to hear it! Sharing how we do it is my pleasure. I’m not a big fan of the panels… you end up seeing the irregularities in the paver heights because you can’t hammer down the higher ones. Pavers can vary in height up to an 1/8”-1/4” in really bad scenarios… when setting on a bedding material you can hammer those tall ones lower, with panels you are stuck with them sticking up higher. Plus I don’t think moisture escapes through them as good as a bedding stone. 🤷🏼♂️
Sorry, I thought of another question.........Since you are pie shape cutting the soldiers around firepit why are you leaving such a big gap in between? Also, did you not have the budget to cut every piece for more perfect symmetry?
I leave the gap so I can fill the joints with a permeable crushed stone. It helps with surface water drainage and prevents any possible puddling around the pit in the future. I did not want to or have to cut every piece, especially so that they were tight. I want the 3/4" - 1" gap but if I didn't cut them at all, the gaps would have been to wide... So I opted for cutting every other just to keep the joints around that 3/4" - 1" mark.
Great video! You’re an artist and these videos are helping me more than you know. Can I please ask one question: When you excavate w/ your mini skid steer, is it better to use the bucket without teeth? That’s what I see you use. I rented a dingo and that bucket had teeth. I struggled with excavation.
Thanks again for your support, I remember saying that you had a project going on. I honestly have never used a bucket with teeth but always wanted to try it. Most rentals I get just come with the flat bucket and the companies I worked for never had one either… not sure how much of a difference they make. I assume they are very helpful when there’s a lot of rocks…✌🏻
@@TheChristianHardscaperThanks for taking the time to answer these questions. My patio is about done and there’s no way I’d figure this out without your videos. I’ll post a picture later. God Bless bro!
There is a lot of people who do that actually, but it is certainly not a practice the professionals should get into. This is the proper way to do it, aesthetically speaking.... The fire pit should look like it is coming out of the ground and the pavers should wrap around it to hold the pit in its place. When you hire a professional company and they just slap a firepit down on top of the pavers, I would be very concerned how long the job will last for because if you are willing to do that for saving time sake, I can only imagine what other corners they are cutting during the install.... ✌
Thank you, and that’s not a dumb question at all. But it is a little more tricky to do than a just a regular patio on the ground. You will need to have multiple pitches with the middle being the highest point and then have it pitch towards the walls on every side there is a wall. A bit more prep time when setting the screed pipes, but as long as you take your time and think through it, it’s definitely possible ✌🏻
Man we appreciate the channel. Thank you for sharing and your work looks great . I'm learning and have always wanted to do hardscapes one day myself , hopefully sooner than later . Awesome channel man
Thank you very much for the support, I am having a good time putting these videos together! The hardscape experience just comes from putting my hands to it and pursuing it more through the past few years. ✌
Well done! We do this process very similar. Is there a reason why you don't cut in place? If so, why? Also, wouldn't building the firepit on top of paver be an option? IF not, why in your opinion? Your base should be plenty strong enuff for that small of a firepit. If we assume your not installing a soldier course.
Thanks, cutting in place with this tight of a radius is next to impossible with a 14" saw. And I don't like saws that are any smaller, not enough power.... I don't build them on the pavers simply because I think it is extremely cheesy looking.... not a professional look.
Thank you, I have a Facebook but I don't keep it updated very good at all.... RUclips takes most of my social media time right now. Hopefully I will have someone to help me spread out to more platforms in the future though. ✌
Do you ever seal pavers? Or is that not good? I see videos of them sealing concrete patios. I was wondering because I have watched all of your videos and have not seen you seal any pavers.
I don’t seal the pavers I lay, I am not against it but it is a annual / every other year kind of thing you have to consistently do. It is nice in some situations but I have not been completely sold on the benefits of sealing your pavers just yet…
Wow, this looks fantastic. I’m going to attempt doing something similar. How do you figure out how many smalls, mediums and large pavers to buy for a 12x12 patio? Really enjoy your vids, great job! Many thanks.
Thank you! When ordering pavers like this, the sizes come all mixed together on a pallet. They are sold per layer usually (9-12 sq ft per layer / 90 - 120 sq ft per pallet. Just find a paver style you like and get the square footage you need for the patio. The border pavers get measured by linear ft (the outside measurement around the entire patio). Then depending on how you lay the border pavers in and what size they are, you just do some math on how many individual pavers you need. Most landscape / hardscape supply yards can help with that as long as you have the linear ft measurement. ✌

@@TheChristianHardscaper I've done the cutting today. The table saw was magically. I think my cutting is near your quality even just the straight line part 😆 A quick question, have you ever been in the situation that the layer under cap is not 100% flat? I had tried my best but there is still 1 spot a little uneven. One corner of a brick is a tiny bit lower, like depth of a sand. Should I put in something (a thin layer of sands?) as a filler, or the glue is enough to flat it out?
@@ttzz7868 Nice! 🤣 That does happen every now and then.... Most of the time, a thick bead of glue will even it out just fine. Like setting bricks in mortar to level them, you can use the same concept with the glue. If one cap is high, put less glue on that one and a little more glue on the ones next to it to try and even them out the best you can. When it is really bad, we grind down the high spot with our saw or angle grinder to take it down to even. ✌
I would, honestly, I try to put chip stone drainage points around any feature within a patio. Does nothing but help in my opinion. As far as spacing, 3/4 - 1 inch is fine. ✌🏻
Why do you cut in the fire pit and do a border on every fire pit?... If you were doing a smokeless insert like a Solo stove or Breeo, wouldn't it look better to build the first course on top of the patio pavers?... Using adhesive to secure to the pavers and using the chip stone for the joints of the patio on the inner side of the pit for drainage?
Thanks for the feedback, I never build my fire pits on top of pavers. It looks very unprofessional to me. I also love seeing a border around the fire pit. Quality is in the details. It is all about doing things people don’t usually do that sets you apart in this industry. Custom work is worth the extra time, customers love seeing cuts like that.
