@astrialkil perhaps there are similarities... this clutch is designed to be serviced after each run, but im guessing a tank clutch would be expected to perform for a tad longer ;)
The Jester that just refers to an automatic transmission that is controlled by the driver. Practically same internals as any other automatic, they just don't let it shift itself.
Colton Tweed Semi automatics can shift themselves. That’s why they are still called automatics. However they can be put in a manual mode where they can shift themselves. They give you the best of worlds of both the automatic and manual. A lot of drag racers will just use power glides built by GM. It’s an automatic with only two gears but with the power most drag cars are producing they don’t need to advantage of close gear ratios.
Cody Allen pardon me trying to over simplify, but a lot of them really cannot shift on their own. We've got an old Corvette with a th400 that has no ability to shift itself at all. Used to be a stock automatic transmission, now it peels the tires going into third
Colton Tweed Ironically I’ve also got a 77 corvette with a TH400. Would like to do a T56 swap some day. Some racers do modify their transmissions to behave like yours but by putting a manual valve body in their automatics. However it makes it more into a clutch less manual if anything as the point of a semi automatic is to be able to fully operate on it’s own but is also able to be fully controlled by the driver. For instance you could have a 4L60E and with a good transmission controller can set it up to be a semi automatic transmission. You can even get paddle shifters and bump shifters now. But your transmission still is an automatic with a manual valve body or at least it behaves as one. True semi automatics are typically used in high end cars like Ferraris and shift perfectly on their own.
no it doesn't. The flywheel is a completely seperate component from the clutch, Yes, they do work together, but to call the flywheel a part of a clutch isn't correct. Go to a parts store and buy a clutch, you won't get a flywheel.
and you know this why ..... because you work there .... no oh just a troll.. oh and that little square sticker on the handle .... FYI thats the cal sticker..
GamingTurkey You're missing the point, drag cars HP is tuned around grip and car type, like big tyre, small tyre, big block, small block, steel body, promod, and so on.
Lane Shurtleff your actually both correct.... they are automatic but have clutch discs like this. Because a standard fluid based automatic clutch wouldn’t be able to do it. Top fuel 11,000 hp drag cars gears actually work by the gear change happening so fast they don’t need a clutch for anything other then launch. By the end of the run the discs have all fused and will need replacing before the next run
ummm no not always. a powerglide will only get you so far. but they not manuals either they typically are planetary gear clutch packs... and Im refering to Lenco type transmissions (cuz techincally an automatic is just a bunch of clutches.... controlled by hydraulics...)
Yeah, automatics are actually more complicated and computerized manuals with instead of a clutch on the flywheel there is a Torque Converter. The clutches are individually attached to each gear.
Tis a flywhell 0-30 seconds.
no man, thats the clutch that came with the car! FROM THE FACTORY!!!!!
That's a 10in RAM Pro Drag twin disc. It really is rated around 1800hp. The 11in version is rated for 3000+.
3,6k?! Holy shit, for what went into building it thats some insane profit.
this is a beautiful clutch...
Whoa.... That's a clutch...! Nice...
@astrialkil perhaps there are similarities... this clutch is designed to be serviced after each run, but im guessing a tank clutch would be expected to perform for a tad longer ;)
so are these like the clutches in a scorpion light tank?
I highly doubt that clutch in a working spring pressure setup is able to be disengaged with a throw-out bearing by hand like he does @ 4:45
nice video
high specialized intricate component, requiring extremely accurately cut pieces
race cars use automatics well depending on if u want to go fast or FAST!!
f-bodys and mustangs and I thought they used semi automatic transmissions

Haha, the way he says at 2:13, "and there are six."
The clutch as a whole includes the flywheel
wow he's generous with that locking compound at 1:32....
4:04 Dat action.
great video..
the technology behind it

Go to a parts store and buy a clutch, you won't get a flywheel.
lol gotta love the plebs that come out and play.. seriously they think ya get a flywheel with your clutch? they totally two different components...
Yea, the fly wheel is part of the clutch. Did you not see it attached? Lol
Some clutches are sold with flywheels. Go on summitracing. They’ve got lots
Wow that is so different than the clutch in my car.
Oh, my bad. I didn't realize you have the more powerful version lol.
however, this setup is definitely a special case lol
will i be able to get a clutch like for my r-32 skyline ?...........plz
Literally the only reason I watched these was for the bad puns at the beginning.
2:30 Bullshit
They are mounted on the outside so they have to be light to decrease rotating mass
#DeezBolts
#DatAction
wow didn't know it was so complicating...
but will it blend?
will it line up......?
The technician seems to not care
that guys name says G572, he doesnt have a prius with a name like that
Pounds of titanium and aluminium don't come cheap :)
4:25 I really hope that's not how they actually measure those arms...
Excuse me, sir, but my microvan is a 1.2 at it has 55 HP. I will not allow you to take that away from me.
Hmm. Hm hmhmhmhmhm. Hm.
torqued to spec with an old ass wrench that has never been calibrated
and you know this why ..... because you work there .... no oh just a troll.. oh and that little square sticker on the handle .... FYI thats the cal sticker..
Aluminum bolted to steel. Remind me to never buy clutches from these guys.
watch out we got a badass over here
Implying an M5 is a "real" car.
My 78 z28 camaro has a clutch about that size.
Loctite is cheap.
The so-called lubricant that he applied to the bolts at 3:40 is likely anti-seize compound.
lol no its not... try pricing a crate of 7075 aluminum blanks... not cheap by any means for good quality aluminum
Britt Wells cheap compared to chromoly
you can not show one bolt and say its a car because a car as a whole includes a bolt
1800 HP lol
whats so funny about 1800hp
Squarebody Case /Wade McKenney funny thing is drag cars have more than 1800hp these days
GamingTurkey You're missing the point, drag cars HP is tuned around grip and car type, like big tyre, small tyre, big block, small block, steel body, promod, and so on.
Well they usually have 4.722222... times that power
Souraneel Chattoraj they've pushed over 4,000 in top fuel dragsters.
1. That's not Mark Tewksbury.
2. What's so wrong about him being gay?
4:40 good luck put this clutch on a race car.
dat action @ 4:05
I demand a etter counter-argument. This "go drive your Prius" is really really old.
PS: I hate Toyota Prius and it's equivalents.
Good day!
racing use only
that not in my Pinto
Lol. Just stick to your 50 hp, 1.0L minivan bud.
0:09 That's a flywheel not a clutch....
aluminum is pretty cheap
Your right he drives something worse.
@ericmck2000 lol i get it
you shouldn't be driving an old man's sports car at your age.
$$$$$$$$$$
i dont get how these cost thousands of dollars
yet REAL drag cars use automatic transmissions
Only plebeian grocery getters like yours. Pro classes are all clutch.

How is a manual transmission Pro Stock anything but a REAL drag car...?
Yeah, my SUBARU is fierce. It eats Mustangs and Camaros for breakfast.
Wierd. The narrator for this episode is gay. Literally. Mark tewksbury
however, this setup is definitely a special case lol
