    Great video, we live in Weymouth and enjoyed the extra facts! My husband was born in Weymouth. If anyone wants to dispute the testing of the bouncing bomb in the fleet, for many years there was the remains of one of the test bombs on a beach around the fleet.

    Born and bred Weymouth as was my parents and grandparents. From the mid 80s , unless born at home, no more weymothians. Everyone is now born in Dorchester ( Durnovarians) since portwey maternity hospital closed. The hospital was the ' poor house' for Weymouth and melcombe Regis. Dad did his 2 year engineer indentureship with Cosens. The paddle steamers history is worth checking out. I still have those papers written in copperplate writing. My uncle was the longest serving landlord in the UK at the chapelhay tavern in old Weymouth

    I've lived in the area for fifty-six years, so none of your "unexpected" items were new to me. Fascinating, nonetheless.
    Interesting you should mention ads: I was fed an ad on my television app! This is exactly why I NEVER allow ads to play when I watch RUclips videos. I consider it to be tantamount to theft!
    Before I learned that RUclips did this, I would always allow thirty seconds or more of an ad to play in order to support my favourite creators. Now there is no way to tell if the creator receives any share at all of the ad revenue.
    Super videos!
    🍌🙂

    • @JoeCoastal
      @JoeCoastal  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for the encouragement. Given how long you've been here it's not surprising that you didn't find any of it to be unexpected but you'd be surprised how many born and bred locals have told me hat at least 1 fact in here was news to them so you can take good pride in your local knowledge.
      As far as adds are concerned it used to be the case that only monetized channels had adds on them an the revenue was sared but then youtube Decided to put adds on little channels like mine. To be honest from what I understand, a channel would need to generate hundreds of thousands of views every month before ad revenue would be enough to live on. In many respects they do us more harm than good as so many people switch to another video when an advert cuts in. Personally if I see the ads coming every 5 minutes I know the channel are desperate to make money that way and that effects how I view the creator.

      Hiya. Well the van isn't completed but it is a hell of a lot further on than any video has shown. I'll be honest, I find it difficult filming and working on it at the same time. However I do have a couple of van videos planned for the very near future. How is your van going?

      Thanks for the prompt reply.
      I haven't bought yet. Looking at a P. boxer size L3H2 as that's the maximum size for the drive. Have found one on an 18 plate, and I'm contacting the seller tomorrow. I would like to put the shower cubicle not far behind the drivers seat. Have just two single seats in the front cab that rotate 360°, a small kitchen unit by the side opening door, a window in that door, and a double bed at the rear. A small horizontal window at the foot of the bed.
      All being well.

    • @JoeCoastal
      @JoeCoastal  9 месяцев назад

      @monman8183 well I'm definitely still happy with my van so good luck with getting yours. How tall are you? I think if you're over 6ft I'd recommend the H3 but otherwise H2 is fine. I managed to get a full size double mattress across the back too. It needs to be in the widest point which means a step will be needed to get in and out but I'm very happy with that.

      @JoeCoastal I'm 5ft 9..... so the H2 should be adequate.
      I'll be making it so that the bed can easily be dismantled, and then I've still got the van space at the rear there.

    Thank you for the info! We're visiting Weymouth next month for a few days (from the states) before hopping on a cruise. We're somewhat frequent visitors to England, but haven't ventured too far out of London until now. That said, any tips on non-chain pubs we can visit while in the area? We love a good pint and the pub atmosphere, but the food quality at the chain places kinda stinks. You also mentioned nightlife. Any tips on what is fun to do after the pubs close? I noticed a couple live music venues when I searched. We'll have our 3 year old with us, but we alternate going out alone if we must.

    • @JoeCoastal
      @JoeCoastal  15 дней назад

      Hiya. Thanks for your comments. As a born and bred Londoner I think that if you haven't ventured out from there as London is today then you haven't really seen England so I'm pleased to hear that you're venturing this way. I hope you'll love it. I could recommend quite a few non chain pubs here but most don't do food. One notable exception is the belvedere. It's a proper locals pub but don't let that put you off. You'll be made to feel welcome just as long as you don't mind a bit of banter. Otherwise if you just want a drink and a chat then the Market House or the globe are good. If you fancy somewhere a little more lively then I'd suggest the sailors or the Duke of Albany. I hope you enjoy your time here. If you see me in town then don't hesitate to come over and say hello. It would be lovely to meet you.

      Thank you! Thats really helpful information. Those are exactly the types of places I had in mind, and friendly banter is always delightful. We’ll have 5 days to see the area (and a rental car) so we’ll make the rounds. I hope we do bump into you! You’re an excellent representative for Weymouth!
      I agree with you about London. I’ve thoroughly seen it and it’s time to move beyond. We’ve been up to Scotland a couple times and taken some very ambitious day trips to places outside of London, but I’m far more excited about seeing the real England. We’re also spending a couple nights in a village in the New Forest on the tail end of the trip.
      Thank you again! Taking the time out of your day to point me in the right direction is very kind.

      @MA-bc7bf you're very welcome. If you're going to drive out to a few places then let me recommend Lyme Regis. There's a video on my channel about it. Lyme is one of my favourite places. Real old England charm. I'm sure you'll think about seeing Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove and they are both very worth a visit but for me Lyme is the one you shouldn't miss.
