Quick and possibly dumb question (new to keyshot) when I double click the light like you do in the video to adjust the brightness only one selects not all so i have to change the brightness one by one? Edit: i figured out I had to uncheck the unlink materials by part name box on the import
Once again, very useful content, Will! For some reasons in 2023.1 version I am not able to dock more than 2 panels on the side. Is this a bug or a feature?
@@WillGibbons I also sadly discovered, thanks to your tutorials, that Keyshot has this weird approach of importing the model into different model sets if not chgecking out all the boxes, even though you chose to import the model into a new model set. Weird logics behind this option.
@@WillGibbons It does now I am on 2023.1. And I need to go manually into the next unchecked window and scroll down and manually uncheck a few model sets. It is really kind of a different logic to this software, but its GPU render time is unbeatable so, I believe I need to get used to. Also if you don't mind, I can't find an export option where you can export only a specific model. Like in 3d max you select a model and click- Export selected or even Save selected and you end up with clean model not the whole scene. Sorry if I sound dumb:)
Hi, I found why thumbnail renders in black for product in Model set. Just add brightness to Environment (when it seted to 0 - happens black thumbnail).
hi Will! thank you for this great video! when I turn the panel to an area light it just change the same one, how to i affect all the panels together like in the video? thanks again!
Hey will! I try double clicking on one of the lights as you mentioned to turn into an area light by only one light is then actually converted into an area light, I have to manually change every light, I'm not really sure why, can you help me in this case?
Sure. They're not currently linked. This is by design so you can change the brightenss of each light without affecting the others. You can select all the lights in the scene tree, then right-click and go to 'change material type' and should be able to change them to Area light all at once without linking them together.
@@WillGibbons Thank you so much for responding, I see the reason for not linking them makes much not sense now that I've gone through the tutorial, i was actually going side by side so i encountered this "issue" but it's not an issue haha
Hey Pece, I just tried it and it works... I'm not sure what error/issue you're experiencing. What browser are you using? Do you have security settings that blocks downloads? Do you have a firewall that might be blocking it?
Hi, not unless you create the animation/simulation in another software (3d modeling tool) that allows you to export the animation in an Alembic format. Then, you can import that into KeyShot.
Thanks Will, this is a good refresh. Selecting multi-materials in the studio UI is the worst! I tend to set it up as I want in the environment, then hit the multi-material checkmark as a 'save' function. One of the biggest problems I have is that I can end up with a studio for each shot in my presentation. So let's say I have 15 studios. Some of those studios use the same camera, some don't. Sometimes I want to adjust one camera without adjust the others and it's difficult to keep track of what is linked to what. It's probably more of a me problem, but I find sometimes keyshot gets too linky. Like maybe it would make more sense if each studio just had it's own dedicated camera and you just turn on which ones are in sync, and which aren't? Do you know what I mean? I just feel keyshot is a never ending list of nested items, items which can be linked or not linked, and then when you break the link, all is lost. I'm ranting now lol
Hey Kevin, I hear you. For this reason, I make one model set for my model, one for my lighting, one camera, one environment if I'm using HDRI lighting and an image style for EVERY shot I do. Sure, it results in what seems like a lot of items, but if model set 1 goes with camera 1, goes with environment 1 goes with studio 1, then it's pretty simple to manage.
@@WillGibbons I am a chinese student, and my English is so poor,my sorry for this, the product lighting of the ins and behance is so beutiful, how the lighting can be implemented
Hi Will, great tutorial as always! But I'm wondering if it's not much easier to do without all the physical light sources and just control it with HDRI. Because actually all parameters of light like color, position or size can be controlled by HDRIs. Sure, the disadvantage is that the pins cannot be animated. And some people say that physical light sources provide more realism, but I think there is not much difference. What do you think?
The ease is a matter of opinion, I suppose. As for realism, the light emitted by physical lights is objectively more accurately calculated in KeyShot, so I don't think there's much debate on this matter. As mentioned in the video, you can use the studios with HDRIs instead of physical lights if that's what you prefer. I typically use both approaches.
Open up the model in KeyShot, select the model and look at the size of it in the properties under the scene tree. It'll have the information you're asking for.
Why the renders in keyshot don't show the same vibrant colors from the keyshot port view when you open the renders in photoshop?, Do you have to do post-production always?
Nope. It sounds to me like this is a color management issue. Do you have any settings in the image styles tab that change the colors in the real-time view? Otherwise, do you have/use custom color profiles in Photoshop? KeyShot outputs srgb images. The way colors are shown in Photoshop depends on the settings you've got in Photoshop.
when trying to render an animation in this scene I am getting solid white squares randomly appearing in some frames do you have any idea how to fix this

I see. It may be a GPU bug. Also, can you try disabling each effect? For example, are you using Bloom? That can also exacerbate the issue if you have fireflies in the scene. Try using the firefly filter to see if it helps at all. That would be my first course of action.
Hi Will, im an industrial design student form Argentina. I´ve decided to make my own workstation inspired on one of your videos. The problem is that I have a tight budget, and it is not easy to buy a compatible gpu in order to use the gpu mode. So my question is: Could I work professionally just with the cpu? Is it really that neccesary to use the gpu mode? If yes: wich is the cheapest gpu that I can use for the gpu mode? Thanks!
Hi Mateo. I don't use GPU mode for render. I make a living off the CPU in my workstation. It really just comes down to speed. The faster your CPU/GPU, the less time you'll spend waiting for renderings to finish.
Hey! I'm not sure I know how to answer this. Which free courses are you referring to? My free content is all on RUclips. Sure, you can apply principals to any software, but the only rendering tool I know how to use is KeyShot. So, applying any knowledge I share on this channel to another software would depend on how well you are able to do that. I hope that answers your question.
@@WillGibbons Thanks Will, I was refrencing the turorial that we are watching here... I'm a professional animator and modeller myself for about 15 years but lighting and rendering is my weakest skill. Do you build your models or rely on the client to provide? Loving your manner of speaking and professionalism.
Hi Will. When I open up and use the Geometry View, the navigation is linked to the view in Keyshot. In your video you show the geometry view navigation as not being tied to the view in the Keyshot view. In other words, when I navigate around in the Geometry view the Keyshot view also moves, but in your video, you are able to move the scene in the geometry view without affecting the render view. How did you achieve this?
Hey Isopon, don't think of it as 'throwing out all your habits', rather just an addendum to what you've found to work in the past. Don't rush it. Over time, the best habits should win out.
If you're asking for scenes and models ready to be used in KeyShot, you can do that on the KeyShot cloud, which is integrated directly in KeyShot (bottom left corner of the program). Otherwise, yes, there are a bunch of websites, some of which I have links to in my File Vault on my website willgibbons.com (near the bottom). Finally, I like using GrabCAD, which is a large selection of user-uploaded 3D models, mostly created in CAD programs.
When importing my model, the label textures get smaller than its original size when imported into your scene. I've converted my scene unit to mm to ensure they keep the same unit. Still with no luck Any ideas?
I'm not sure. This sounds weird. How are you importing your model? For example, you can drag a bip file into an open KeyShot scene. I don't think this should result in any label size changes.
@@WillGibbons The import using drag n drop itself works fine. All label textures are in place til I start scaling the model :) Have tried messing around with the DPI settings among other things. Found this post which seem to address the problem I'm having. Howver with no solution. forum.keyshot.com/index.php?topic=19707.0 . By the way, another thing, what specs do you have for your computer? Edit: Sorry saw the description with all the gear nicely laid out on your site :)
Hello, this is my first time ever using keyshot, thanks for the great video, I'm using Keyshot v7.1, every time I try to change something in the material tab, it doesn't automatically change it for all the lights, i have to go through all the lights and manually change it, am I missing something? or is it a parameter that i have to change, thanks a lot
I believe this is because the light materials are unlinked. This might be due to how the file was imported (unlinked by default), or because I never linked them when creating the project file (can't remember honestly). Your fix for this is to select all the lights, then right-click on them (in the real-time view) and choose link material.
Hmm. It should. Sometimes it doesn't always snap very easily. Try holding the mouse button down and hovering near the edge and don't let go until you see the side of the window turn blue for a second. Hope it works.

Loving your manner of speaking and professionalism.
which PC specification are you using can you please tell me, I wanted to get the right one !
Check my website: willgibbons.com/computer
Bro went crazy at 4:30 I had to pause the video like 7 times lmao
Lol... a bit too many shortcuts. Sorry.
very good
Thank you!
U're the best. 🌞👍👏👏👏 Thanks
Too kind! :)
I think you need to change your camera settings in the geometry view (upper left corner of geometry view) and set it to perspective.
It’s amazing video thank you! It would be great if you make a burned wooden door or window tutorial. 😬
Thanks for the suggestion. This is a very specific material. I'm not sure I've ever seen a burned wood door or window.
Can we still be able to download the project files?
Yeah, sorry. Relaunched my website. Should be good now!
its such a daunting idea to throw away all of my current keyshot habits haha, but Im going to give this a shot. I now realize how much time I waste
Hey Isopon, don't think of it as 'throwing out all your habits', rather just an addendum to what you've found to work in the past. Don't rush it. Over time, the best habits should win out.
awesome!
Thanks!
I can't drag and drop the STEP file into keyshot. I also only find 2 possible formats to import bip and ksp?? Using Keyshot 10.1 Pro 64 bit.
Did some more research and it's probably due to me having Keyshot for ZBrush 😞
Yep, looks like you figured it out.
is there any site from i can download free stuff to render in keyshot?
If you're asking for scenes and models ready to be used in KeyShot, you can do that on the KeyShot cloud, which is integrated directly in KeyShot (bottom left corner of the program). Otherwise, yes, there are a bunch of websites, some of which I have links to in my File Vault on my website willgibbons.com (near the bottom). Finally, I like using GrabCAD, which is a large selection of user-uploaded 3D models, mostly created in CAD programs.
@@WillGibbons than you sir 👍🏻, u saved me, I was trying to import my projects but textures are always getting wrong
Sir i have problem ...how to keyshot file dispay on maya?
You can't.
😟
Ah. As far as I know, textures have never scaled along with the model in KeyShot.
10'30'' listen very carefully... PRROOOOAAAAT ! That's a relief :D
lol. That's my dog Deckard groaning in the background!
Great quality videos and really helpful, just slow down abit haha, give us a chance
Why cant i doc on the sides? Doesnt give me the option
Hmm. It should. Sometimes it doesn't always snap very easily. Try holding the mouse button down and hovering near the edge and don't let go until you see the side of the window turn blue for a second. Hope it works.
thankssss
No problem
this is nice.
Thanks!
I cant download the sample project😥 Please help me
I just checked and the link is valid. What issue are you running into?
Hi, the file vault is not working. Please fix it.
What do you mean? Yes it is.
someone know how to do to prepare a model set? i dont know what i have to do
to create a modelset with geometries
I show you how to do that at 3:28 sec in this video.
nice
So nice. ;)
