There was a lot of movie trailers I found with colonial horror elements and as a fan of the series I think a movie like this, taking the franchise in a new direction, might be very interesting.

The Blair Witch project is of course known mostly for the horror film which launched the found footage craze for awhile. There was a marketing campaign however featuring in depth lore about the Witch herself, the town of Blair, and the horrific events leading up to the filmmakers disappearance. A film like The Witch or The Wind or Gwen might be an intriguing way to look into the history of Elly Kedward and the origins of the legend. The story is right there and rife with dramatic potential. A young woman finds herself accused of witchcraft after attempting to cure a plague in her village. Although left to die of exposure for her perceived crimes, there persist rumors (and disappearances of children) long after her execution. Years later a search party of soldiers goes missing at Coffin Rock. The rest, as they say, is history...

I used the following clips: The Blair Witch Project, November, Jordskott, Neil Gaiman's Likely Stories, Salem (series), The Wind, The Witch, Viy, The Revenant, The Missing, Channel Zero: Butcher's Block, Gehenna: Where Death Lives, Gwen, Sticks and Stones: An Exploration of the Blair Witch Legend (mockumentary).
Not gonna lie, would not mind a movie about the origins of Elly Kedward and all that went down leading up to the film maker's disappearance.
Frankly you could make several movies about the Blair Witch that doesn't involve just remaking the original. Book of Shadows may have been silly, but at least it tried something new. Not only could there be a movie about Elly Kedward, but possibly one about the Coffin Rock massacre, and Rustin Parr's story too.
This is what they SHOULD have done instead of that terrible sequel!

You could re-use some of the footage you used in "Winter Tales" in "12 Realms".
The man the legend is back
If I were to make a Blair Witch movie, I would've based it off the plot of the video game. The game itself, serves as a "sequel" to the original film, but unlike the other lame attempts (you know what two films I'm referring to) the plot of this one is actually really good and interesting. However, there are some changes that I would make to the plot, in order to fit a movie setting. In fact, here's a little summary of what I have in mind:
"Several years after the first film, on the anniversary of the discovery of the infamous footage, 9-year-old Peter Shannon mysteriously vanishes into the Black Hills Forest. Residents in Burkittsville fear that the curse of the Blair Witch has returned to claim it's next victim. Inspite of this, a search party is formed to find the young boy, and this is where our main protagonist comes in, a veteran and former police officer Ellis Lynch and his dog, Bullet. He offers to join the search and the two set off into the woods, unaware of what they're getting themselves into."
The title of this movie would be "The Curse of the Blair Witch" and the tag line for the film would be "The cycle comes to an end."
There's actually been talks of a non-found footage Blair Witch prequel about Elly Kedward.
You can also use footage from the likes of Jim Henson's Labyrinth, Pan's Labyrinth, and other things like that.

In reality, that's the personification of The Black Death from the movie November (2017)
In the context of the trailer, The Witch in the expanded universe uses some wooden constructions to attack people (especially in the video game and books series)
