      Such kind words and thank you! - We were inspired by the fact we've gotten several comments about a lack of city reviews / neighborhood reviews in Bogota. So, we jumped on it. - I don't think we can over emphasis our opinion enough... The better neighborhoods seems be from Calle 70 to Calle 150 and east of Avenida 19. - Also, looking at weather patters of Moscow... You could expect Bogota to fell somewhat like the months of May and September year round. - I hope the move goes smoothly!

    I had the chance to live in many neighborhoods in Bogotá. I'd say my favorite one is definitely Teusaquillo. It has everything you mentioned you liked: character, peace and quiet, entertainment, green areas, and incredible architecture.
    Another places I like are Parque Central Bavaria, Bosque Izquierdo, Niza, La Merced, El Greco, Normandía, Colina Campestre, and off course, La Candelaria.

    I think Chapinero Alto is very cool and hip, and gentrifying, east of La Septima. Also, Teusaquillo, very hip and artsy, creative types, professors and artists. Jazz cafe I used to frequent and art galleries. Also, La Macarena, east of La Septima with cafes, creative types, and international restaurants.

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple  Месяц назад

      It really depends. The trick is to find an apartment that faces west and gets direct sun. If so, you will be plenty warm. We had an apartment that faced west for about 8 months, and there were days I was walking around with a shirt on and just my shorts. But, you will find that some units have small heating units. It really only gets to 50 degrees at night between 9pm and 6am... But as the sun comes out it warms up pretty quickly.

    ¿ What tour group did you use for the 4 mile hike in Santander from Barichara to Guane? I will feel more comfortable hiking in a group, rather than solo. I plan to find an Airbnb in Bucaramaga and learn logistics how to get to / from both ends of that 4 mile hike. ¡ I appreciate any contacts or ideas you can share!

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple  Год назад +1

      We didn’t join a group. We knew about the hike and when we found the head trail we decided to get to Guane to eat lunch.
      As a native Colombian (Widny) I was super worried about us doing that hike by ourselves, but it felt pretty safe. It was almost noon and we only came across two families while on the trail.
      You could probably reach out to the hostels in Barichara and ask if they have any groups doing that hike.
      If no luck, get to the trail in the morning and you can probably join other foreigners. When we got to Guane there were a couple of groups walking around town and they were heading back to Barichara on the trail.

      On Instagram @ecoturismoalpiedelacuesta was recommended by one of our friends from Bucaramanga, you could probably reach out and see if he knows of a local guide in Barichara.
      We also connected with Sandra (@ven_y_camina_conmigo_), she continuously schedules hikes on the weekends. 😊
      Hope that’s helpful!

      I agree. A guide or joining is not needed. I met couples and families about every 2 minutes. Some from Germany and the Netherlands. Easier is route direction Barichara to Guane; because Guane is at a lower elevation. The pathway is paved stones about 7 feet wide. The stone shapes are irregular surfaces. A cane is helpful for balancing. I didn’t bring a walking stick. The stick would steady my balance at age 79. Young nimble persons walked quickly, and a walking stick would slow their pace. Was a great pleasure to answer questions from a guided group of young teenagers from Bogota. The young teens spoke excellent conversational English.; took turns asking questions; didn’t interrupt each other.

      The area known as Zona T is a good central location and very safe for a family. They have your typical Hilton, DoubleTree, etc. in that area. But, if you look for them you can find highly rated boutique hotels which might be a bit of a more intimate and enjoyable experience. Since we always book through Airbnb or find a place to rent long-term in Bogota, we haven't stayed in any hotels actually.

    Hi, I have a few questions related to Bogota. What would be the grand total monthly budget to live in Bogota say at a 4 month window of time? What months of the year are less rainy and cold? I see averages online of 45F nighttime temperatures... no heat in houses? I live in Michigan and 60F is cold in the house and have the furnace running. Is it because apartment or condo buildings stay warmer than independent houses? thanks

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple  Год назад

      Daniel - Total Budget: $1,500 - $3,000 depending on area and number of bedrooms you want or need. - Rainy season is March-May and September-November. Think of it as Spring and Fall months are rainier. - Housing/Coldness: The trick is to either get a house that faces west or east so that there is direct sun in the apartment. The colder days are the days it actually rains all day. Most of the time it's clear in the morning and there is a rain for 1 or 2 hours mid-afternoon. - We personally sleep better in 50 or 60 degree whether versus other places where it may get as low as 70. - I hope this all helps!

    Ciudad Salitre is like a much bigger Hayuelos a bit closer to downtown so I'd consider that....farther from the airport but closer to the bus station, which for some people might be more useful. There are, of course, a lot of options but I always put in a word for Galerías. Good location for most things (downtown, airport, the fancy north), decent street life, and while it's been in the news for crime I don't think it is that bad.

      Galerías as a neighborhood has gotten dangerous and noisy because of all the bars and the proximity to the stadium. But the neighborhoods of Pablo VI, Nicolás de Federmán and Rafael Núñez that are near are way safer, cleaner and greener. Also at a very central location.

    • @MrRJS27
      @MrRJS27 Год назад

      @@Bogotaeverything Federman is quieter and maybe safer (although to me quiet is more spooky than safe), but it has precisely one restaurant that I know of, and only the occasional tienda. Its only hotels are on the north (hostpital) side which to me isn't as convenient; there was one I used to stay at, on K37 next to the radio station, but it closed several years ago. As for Galerias being noisy, I stay in the Hotel Portofino which is literally on the next street (it backs up to the back of the clubs) and if you get a street-facing room (so the opposite direction) it isn't bad at all. I have always considered crowded places safer than empty ones, except for pickpocketing but I tend to blame the victim for that--it happened to me twice, and then I made sure it never happened again. The other two you mention are good options but they don't have hotels so you'd have to scour the AirBNB listings, and they get you out of plausible walking distance from where most people want to go.

    As you do hiking on what looks like isolated trails that are still relatively close to where you stay in a more populated area, are you concerned about possible robbery? I read on a different RUclips, about teenagers with knives robbing people on hiking trails. What, if any, precautions do you take?

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple  Год назад +1

      Wayne! - This is always a concern. In Bogota, we only go up trails that are patrolled unless we are with a guide who knows the trail. So we stick to the schedule on teh Caminos de los Cerros Orietnales website (caminos.eaab.gov.co/). - There are literally several military police with huge guns patrolling the trail. We have heard of people going up the trails without scheduling and then either being fine or getting robbed... The last robbery at Monserrate for example (the only that doesn't need to be scheduled) happened at 4 am. Police show up at 6 am. So, in short, we go when we know there are several people + police on the trail.
