    If you have a local such as you had your partner you can move ANYWHERE and feel safer and make less mistakes and need less knowledge of the language … on the other hand a random white traveler from US traveling to Columbia should be VERY careful and think about safer destinations unless you can financially live in all best areas and I mean THE BEST

    I understand and respect your point of view. As a Uruguayan living in the U.S. I find it kinda funny you guys mentioning so many times how expensive Uruguay is. I live in the Washington D.C. area and I think it is very expensive to live here and the problems with crime and the homeless here is a bit overwhelming. I guess from you guys comparing to Bogota, Santiago, Lima and Buenos Aires I am sure Montevideo and Uruguay itself is more expensive than those cities. Personally I feel Uruguay is less expensive than what I spend here in the U.S. and in many areas such as food, the qua;lity of the food I eat in Uruguay is superior than here, meats, fruits and veggies are much better quality in uruguay, and so I eat there and reason that I am paying less than here and eating better quality for less money. As far as being safe, yes its safe depending on the neighborhood or area, D.C. has been a dangerous area to be in, shootings every day, car theft, drug problems etc.

      This is a fair statement. We lived in Dallas Texas for 6 years and we are comparing our preferences against all these different places and cities. I could imagine that DC is a lot more expensive than Dallas, it seems so through just some simple Google searches. But if you compare Montevideo to many other Latin American cities, it is quite more expensive.

    This a great video. Enjoyed it so much. I do wonder though why, when you were talking about the temperatures, you went to the trouble of converting Celsius (used in Colombia and everywhere else in the world) into Fahrenheit so that your American audience (and only your American audience) could understand? Couldn't you at least have given both? It didn't spoil the film. Just made it very USA centric. Great quality high definition film too.

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple 3 дня назад

      LOL! - This might be a struggle for the rest of my life. Let's call 30+ years of conditioning to where it's still difficult for me know what 20 degrees Celsius feels like versus 75 degrees Fahrenheit... Half of our audience is in the US, so it might still be relevant. On top of learning Spanish, I've had to adapt to using the metric system and celsius... People ask how tall I am and I say six foot one... They look at me like, what does that mean?... I now know that is 185 cm... I think the trouble will continue for me with all these conversations. And then on top of that you have different currencies. --- Thanks for the compliment on the film quality! 95% of this is shot with a an iPhone 13 Pro believe it or not. --- AND THANK YOU FOR THE VIEW AND COMMENT!

    Nope, I respectfully disagree; after living here 409 days and counting more days until I can leave this place, I can tell you that, yes, the weather is amazing, it is green and luscious, and the fruits are the best. Bogota as a city is beautiful. But the place is in absolute chaos, the traffic is horrible, the public transportation sucks, and you eat smog 24/7. This is not even healthy. Society here is a mystery to me; living among them is like living in anarchy; there are no social norms, Regetton until 2-3 AM, they are totally unaware of personal space, and they run into you walking on the street, unbelievable. Nope, no, no. I understand being proud of your city, but don't try to fool people. Also, you can see all the tourist attractions in one day, and there are only 4 places worth seeing.

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple 4 дня назад

      Thank you for the view and a through comment! - We can totally understand this point of view. It is a quite chaotic and the way Colombians are about personal space is really a Colombian thing. I cannot say that's isolated to Bogota. --- Regardless, we think you did it right, you decided to spend over a year in the city to see if it matches your vibe. This is really a push and pull in our relationship as Bogota is a bit chaotic for Jonny... But it's Widny's home and she loves it. But that's just more fuel to the fire as to why we're traveling the world in search of a place that matches our vibe. We hope you and anyone else watching our channel ultimately finds their vibe.

    Montevideo, es una ciudad europea dentro de América Latina, una sociedad de clase media que es la mayoría de nuestro país. Muy culta, con leyes a lo largo de nuestra historia muy liberales. Les falto recorrer varios barrios como el Prado, Punta Carretas o Carrasco. Si somos un país caro, pero con una agitada actividad cultural con excelentes centros de salud de primer nivel incluso los públicos y con un sistema financiero muy amigable para el extranjero. Gracias por el video y por las críticas que son sinceras. Pero les falto comentar creo que lo mas importante de todo es como los trataron los Uruguayos. Saludos

      No intentes convencerlos de nada amigo; simplemente no conectaron con las vibras de la ciudad y no es culpa de la ciudad ni de su gente. Suele suceder cuando se está en otra frecuencia. A veces conectas con la ciudad y con su gente desde el primer minuto, a veces solo con la ciudad y no con la gente y viceversa. Pero si no conectas con nada ya ni te dan ganas de conocer más nada porque ya das por hecho de que no te gustarán por mucho que te lo recomienden. Particularmente me pasó lo mismo con Paris, que con toda su fama, y sus sitios históricos, las vibras fueron completamente negativas, especialmente con la gente. Y cuando estás en esa frecuencia negativa, no tienes ni siquiera la suerte de encontrar un croassant que te sepa rico, y así vas sumando una seguidilla de sucesos negativos que solo te entran ganas de irte lo antes posible. En síntesis, es la persona, no la ciudad ni su gente, y creo que todos están en su derecho de percibir las cosas como les surja. Tampoco creo que se tenga control sobre eso ya que muchos ni siquiera pueden entender lo que les pasa, como el hecho de que a ti te gusten ciertas cosas que a otros no.

      Si, definitivamente es una ciudad que me interesaba mucho conocer! Crecí escuchando cosas increíbles de Uruguay y me causaba mucha curiosidad como vive la gente en este país. • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple 15 дней назад

      Thank you for you view and comment! - Yes, and I will comment on that again. My biggest beef (no pun intended) around this topic is that many people claim that, "Argentina has the best barbecue/asada in the world..." I'm challenging this opinion/belief. Since barbecue/asada is done very differently across the world, there's no way this could ever be true because everyone has a different taste and preference. Including me and Argentinians. And hence, in all our dining experiences with meat, steak, etc. There was no innovation or creativity around adding any flavor to the meat. Barely any salt either. And I more than understand that is exactly how Argentinians like to eat their meat. Did I enjoy the meat? Yes! Would I have liked with with some type of spicing and or sauce, yes! But given my experience, I cannot join the camp that say "Argentina has the best barbecue/asada in the world". I did however love how much more affordable meat is in this country. Nearly a third or quarter of the cost you'd pay in the US for the same amounts and quality.

    Well, on the issue of cannabis and public health. I think I'll rather have a liberal drug policy, that than a destructive drug crisis with a lot of premature deaths as in the US. Another thing that you did not mentioned and might now know regarding the "smoke" issue is that Uruguay has a very restrictive policy on tobacco. That made the country to confront a dispute settlement against Philip Morris. Uruguayan government won the case. About Montevideo not having "latin vibrancy", I think that Uruguayans are grateful for that, and want that to continue that way. Its a QoL issue.

      Thank you for the view and comment! --- We are totally pro legalization of soft drugs like marjuana. It creates more issues to criminalize people for something that can be done safely in a controlled circumstance. Like chilling on your couch... However, we don't like that it is accepted in public places... We saw it in the street, on the beach, in the parks, etc. Fair points about "Latin vibrancy". That could still be defined more... But the looseness that Latinos have in most over countries makes it loose in every part of society, we have noticed that too.

    Tell me you have only been to poblado and laureles without telling me. Hiking: tres cruces is just a small trail. Romeral forest literally covers all of the south área of the aburra valley, with ancient trails connecting with neighbouring towns, it provides and regulates most of the fresh air to the valley, in envigado, la estrella, sabaneta there are indigenous ruins, trails, rivers and waterfalls 20 mins walk from the main parks. This is just a little insight from my end and only speaking about the south of the city… I Know you are tourists but do the research and perhaps make videos highlighting how both cities are so different yet so culturally, naturally rich 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple 17 дней назад

      Thank you for the view and comment! - Completely wrong however. Tell me how you make assumptions and comment without considering the full message of a video without tell. If you watch some of our other videos you will see how we are more than tourist. We have lived together in Colombia for over 2 years. And Widny is from Bogota. We have been to Medellin 4 time in the past, and more recently we stayed a entire month in Belen area to explore and get a feel for Medellin outside of the typical tourist areas (Poblado and Laureles). --- We have even spent time in Caldes and Amaga which are south of Medellin. --- There is a lot more hiking to discover in both Bogota and Medellin areas, we admit. But regarding Medellin, it does appear you must get out of the city to find a good hike. Bogota on the other hand has a public service ran by Acueducto (www.acueducto.com) in which they regulate the number of people who can do the hikes in the Cerros Orientales. And all these hikes are in the actual city of Bogota, not a neighboring city. This is why we make this criticism. --- Perhaps you can watch minute 11:02 where we mention that preference is key and encourage people to discover both places on their own to do there own vibe checks. No winner was announced between each city. There will never be a winner.

    Que disparate la carne argentina es la mejor del mundo y se asa sólo con sal, ¿como vas a arruinar ese sabor único en el mundo poniéndole ketchup u otra salsa?. Eso es un sacrilegio propio de pueblos acostumbrados a comer carne de baja calidad que no tiene gusto y la cocinan demasiado hasta que se pone tierna y luego con el caldo hace una salsa.

      Thank you for the view and comment. ---- "Argentina has the best meat/barbecue/asada in the world"... is an opinion. ---- "Argentina has one of the largest cattle industries in the world"... is a fact. ---- "People who like eating meat with sauces or seasoning are used to eating low quality meat"... is an assumption. --- Less of an opinion and more of a fact is Argentinians likes to eat their meat the way it is, with very little salt added. That is fine. But no matter how good the quality of meat, I still want something, like a sauce or seasoning. We bought a lot of meat for the home while in Buenos Aires, and we cooked it how we liked (3/4) and seasoned it (with mostly salt and cayenne pepper) the way we like. The meat is great, but Argentineans just don't seem to like or feel it is necessary to season meat. Therefore, I cannot have share the opinion that "Argentina has the best meat/barbecue/asada in the world".

If you want to go, go, but be aware of the ugly side. Also, bogotanos suck, (I included) in general colombians suck, that "hospitality" they talk about, it's just a facade to their real intentions, ask anyone about "el vivo come del bobo", "la malicia indigena", "la trampa", be aware of that, specially if you go to Medellin or coastal towns like Cartagena or Santa Marta.

    I share much of what you said, but what happened after the social unrest was that the city, which had been very divided by social classes for years, became even more divided due to these class differences. After the unrest, our politicians didn’t take the necessary steps to make the changes that would allow the general population to live in complete harmony. Instead, they made empty promises out of fear of what was happening, but never followed through. The majority of the people who are the most disrespectful to others are those with more money. These wealthier individuals are the ones who have no sense of belonging to the country they live in, let alone the city they live in. They’re always talking about wanting to leave Chile or Santiago because they have the capital to do so, and therefore, they feel no sense of belonging. This is not the case with middle-class or lower-middle-class people, who are always greeting their neighbors and are proud of their roots and where they live. But this is typical of Chilean society and the city of Santiago. It doesn’t happen in other regions of Chile because people are more humble and live a quieter, more modest life than those in the city. I'm glad you’re coming to Chile and that you like our land. It’s unfortunate that there are people who invest time in scaring tourists by saying that this country is dangerous, when in fact, it has only a 3% crime rate at the Latin American level, making it one of the safest countries in all of Latin America. So, when you read someone saying that Chile is a dangerous country nowadays, it’s for the reasons I mentioned above. It always comes from people who claim to be patriots, who probably no longer live in Chile, and who never had the courage to enjoy the beautiful things the city has to offer because they always stayed in their own comfort zone and never ventured out of their own places. Cya soon..❤❤
