Financially, it makes zero sense to buy one of these new. Bought a 2015 FR-S with 30k miles for around 16k. Fixed the torque dip, tuned it, got some sticky tires, and now I have a clean, perfect car for more than 15k under sticker price. Love these things
That's true of basically any new vehicle, aside from maybe a Tacoma. I love the 3-4 year depreciation dip because for the price you can get a car that's incomparable to anything new, even +$10k.
@@joelness Exactly!! I'm making it a point to never buy a new car as long as I live. Slight tangent, this is also the same reason that I'll probably never own a Tesla. They buy back their used cars and sell them only slightly under what a new car would be, totally skewing the market for their cars. Tesla does some pretty shady stuff. EVs are the future, but I'm banking on another company to make a decently reliable car with no weird luxury BS.
Things to consider before buying this from a former 86 owner. 1. TRD exhaust sounds great but drones at highway speeds. 2. The torque dip requires you too keep the car at 4500 RPM or higher. 3. Do not go lower than gt trim, as the cable linkage for HVAC controls on the lower trims feels so cheap. Lastly, don’t think I hate it. Compared to my 19 mustang gt, the 86 is playful, more forgiving, cheaper to run and amazing steering.
Well, the nice thing about these, is cheap to fix, and you aren't afraid to absolutely beat the crap out of it. If I spent the money on a zl1, I'd be afraid to use it as intended
These guys are fake... There's a real channel called throttle house and these guys call themselves extra throttle house... They need to either face each other in a boxing ring or something.
Nothing wrong with making a smart, responsible decision. Imagine if you bought a shit car instead of a good money saving car? Now you have some knowledge behind you and can choose something better. Also, last time I went to the track, there was a Prius there...
I almost bought a new BRZ (in yellow)c5-6 years ago. I loved its looks and how it drove, but I held off because it seemed too small. Ironically, I bought a new ND1 Miata almost 3 years ago, which is of course even smaller. I still love my Miata, but I am very excited about the new BRZ and 86 coming this fall. If it lives up to expectations, I'll sell or trade the Miata for a new BRZ or 86 - but probably the BRZ. I like the front end better, at least in the photos and videos I've seen so far. Also, I'm with you on the turbo thing. I'm glad the new version will be naturally aspirated!
Yes. I still wish I bought the '19/' 20 Limited BRZ over the WRX I left the dealer in. Granted, the BRZ on the lot was Silver and I didn't want a/another silver car. Slow or not its a fabulous car. I can only hope the 2022 is just as good.
Just bought one 3 weeks ago and am loving it. Did not even consider used as the target audience (which at almost 60 I most definitely am not) shall we say abuses them 😊 Also, I decided not to wait as I believe the best version of a car is always the last year and the worst version is the first year.
These cars will be like Nissan 240SXs and Fox Body Mustangs. In future years to find one that’s original owner and bone stock will be like finding a unicorn.
The 86 is my first love as a car enthusiast ❤️ In fact, the reason why I like the new Supra so much is because I see it sort of as an "Ultimate 86" Even in terms of styling and everything Edit in 2024: Yes, I have in fact, gone back to loving the 86 with the new GR 86 and it is now the perfect car for me 🥰
6:15 amen 🙏🏽 I’m just happy to see these on the road and that they exist at all. These are going to be the cars future generations desire looking back like the way we do looking at supras, 300ZX’s, Silvias, integras, 3000GTs, etc. Because they offer a simplistic sports car experience without the distractions. Not saying the 86/BRZ are on the same performance playing field as some of those other cars, but they do the formula of simple sports car fun that you can go ape shit with mods if you want justice. They’re a smiles per gallon car. Period.
I have never even driven one but I agree. A couple of my favorite all time cars owned were a 1986 Mazda RX7 2+2 and a 1993 Honda Prelude. Both were purchased new with manual transmissions. And I have owned several cars with over 300 hp. Also with manuals! I very much have enjoyed the 2006 Mazda3 5 speed sedan I bought new and it is currently my daily driver until I get my next new car. Oh, and I had a 2003 350z I bought new but with an automatic. I drove it, liked it, and bought it because I couldn't wait for a manual. It just didn't satisfy me in the long run because it was an automatic.
@@t.k.morris wow those are some awesome cars to have owned!!! And I love Zs!!! Actually considering one still going to compare it with some of the new sports cars we have today and go from their but I’ve always appreciated them and adored them. I love the Mazda3 too and my dads had 3 of them haha sometimes we’ll switch cars just so I can drive his and I drive a GTI lmao they’re so much fun and so engaging. I can definitely see how the automatic wouldn’t work for you long term coming from driving manuals mostly. I’m trying to get into the habit of driving manual more often myself but traffic is just getting worse everyday and driving skills are on an decline
So torn between this and the brz leaning towards a brz as I’m a Subaru fan but then the car really seems based off the ae86 meaning it’s more logical option . Such hard decision lol
Eh wait for the new one - no replacement for displacement. 😉 Plus if they keep the port + direct injection it might be worth keeping for a few hundred thousand miles.
I have so many concerns 1. The car ain’t cheap it’s $30k new 2. Who wouldn’t want more power with a turbo 3. Why did you close the door using the window 😂 I could see the mark throughout the video 4. The video was great btw
I bought one of the last BRZs at the dealership, made 12/20. In blue like this 86. I am loving it and was afraid this video was going to say to wait for the new one in 2022!
Yes they do lol. It's annoying yes but they get new people every day, in every people. For example, that intro was perfect for me because I just found out about their second channel through this video
Always reminded me of the more classic z cars. It looks less bulbous than the modern z’s, and to be honest, I think it looks more sporty and just flat out better. It will be interesting to see the new versions of these cars come up against the 400z. I think they will become very competitive, especially since the new versions of these seem to becoming more hatchback-esque and they seem to almost share the same grill and headlight styling as the 400z. Very similar price range too. I’m incredibly excited as I love the old Z cars. I’d love to hear your analysis this too!
This channel should be used for some POV reviews similar to Trophers or Tedwards channel hence the lower production compared to your main channel. Since you guys live with these cars for a week or so, may as well strap a go pro on yourself and film a quick drive and interior/exterior walkarounds for overall first impressions.
I love the 86 and am really looking forward to the new one...if I can afford to have another second fun car after my Miata, an 86 of some sort is definitely on my list...and I would be tempted to consider a new one if I could get a good deal, honestly. They seem to have a floor to their depreciation and it'd be nice to know its history from new. But if I couldn't afford a new one I would definitely not be turned away from a used one!
I went fiesta st instead. Way more practical, just as fun, pretty much every time you see the two stock vehicles on a track they're laying down very similar times, and with very little money you can max out the stock turbo and gain about 30 more horsepower and 70 more pound-foot of torque. The only real downside is it's not rear wheel drive, which isn't really that big of a deal because the fiesta gets its tail out really easily, easily enough that if you're not expecting it, it could bite you in the ass. The fiesta is definitely not as good looking.
I love the way the 86/BRZ look. My only issue with it is the price. It is priced to close to the WRX. The WRX is way more car for almost the same amount of money. The 86/BRZ should be about $5K cheaper than what it is.
The pricing is my biggest gripe with this car, It's too slow to even think about spending WRX money, which is a shame because it's a good looking RWD car, they should've been turbo'd

Please do more extra throttle house. Review anything and everything! Hell bring a used Honda Fit or BMW X3 around town for a video.
James is so sophisticated 😂
If I spent the money on a zl1, I'd be afraid to use it as intended
so explain Extra Throttle House to me again? i'm confused... Is this the main channel?
this is the main channel but they have one called Throttle House for extra content if you like them!
@@someone123421 other way around bro

That’s cool how you guys made a video on the 86. I was thinking this year to purchase one in the Philippines :)

I love these videos! Keep them coming. Also, what happened to Thomas' wife!? lol
every time i see new 86/brz content i want to drive my prius into a lake
Is it your only car?
@@mikehawk6175 yeah. i got it before i knew that i liked cars. the lease ends in august; hoping the GR86 is available stateside by then
Nothing wrong with making a smart, responsible decision.
Imagine if you bought a shit car instead of a good money saving car? Now you have some knowledge behind you and can choose something better.
Also, last time I went to the track, there was a Prius there...
Would love to see the 2022 brz/86 vs Miata and the new 400z
The looks of this car is way better than the fish look and the rear look of the new 86🤣. I rather get this than the new ones
Unlike Thomas's wife when she... WE NEED A PART 2 🤣
Would you rather have a top-trim Extra TH video or a base-trim regular TH video 🤔🤔🤔
I would love to see comparison between BRZ/86 vs Miata vs Fiat 124 Abarth .
Show on Amazon prime called everday driver I believe 30min high quality episode with just that!
best motoring did that already, they had a battle with the 3 of them
@@niftycritters7156 Everyday Driver is on youtube too.
Savage geese has a s2000 vs Miata vs 86 video that is great.
The only thing better than Extra Throttle House is Thortle Horse. I have spoken.
Yes. I still wish I bought the '19/' 20 Limited BRZ over the WRX I left the dealer in. Granted, the BRZ on the lot was Silver and I didn't want a/another silver car. Slow or not its a fabulous car. I can only hope the 2022 is just as good.
Can’t wait for the GR86, same philosophy more power. Will be one of the best cars on the market for sure
Thomas: I don't think there's a better platform to learn to drive rear-wheel drive.
Takumi Fujiwara: *agrees*

What happened to Thomas’s wife??? WE NEED TO KNOW!!!
This is helpful because I want this car for myself. Bless you guys and all that will see this comment

The 86 is my first love as a car enthusiast ❤️ In fact, the reason why I like the new Supra so much is because I see it sort of as an "Ultimate 86" Even in terms of styling and everything
Edit in 2024: Yes, I have in fact, gone back to loving the 86 with the new GR 86 and it is now the perfect car for me 🥰
6:15 amen 🙏🏽 I’m just happy to see these on the road and that they exist at all.
The brz and 86 are identical cars.....

This video explains why I own a ND 1 & a 2020 Toyota 86
a good car needs to be a dream, this toyota is not even near
This is my new favourite channel
Eh wait for the new one - no replacement for displacement. 😉 Plus if they keep the port + direct injection it might be worth keeping for a few hundred thousand miles.
Whoa, could I get a video just explaining extra throttle house
I used to work for Toyota and leased one great motor
I have so many concerns
1. The car ain’t cheap it’s $30k new
2. Who wouldn’t want more power with a turbo
3. Why did you close the door using the window 😂 I could see the mark throughout the video
4. The video was great btw
I bought one of the last BRZs at the dealership, made 12/20. In blue like this 86. I am loving it and was afraid this video was going to say to wait for the new one in 2022!
Honestly, you guys don't really need to explain the channel every time, but good vid as always.
Yes they do lol. It's annoying yes but they get new people every day, in every people. For example, that intro was perfect for me because I just found out about their second channel through this video
I subscribed immediately after opening the video
Perfect timing. My class just ended.
I Love this channel too thanks for making videos on These More Success and More power to both of u
A Miata comparison with the new BRZ/86 - without the torque dip - would be so great!
I did. The best thing Ive ever done for myself. I love her.
Great little car!
The ending won you a like gents
Really like your stuff guys! Time to stop apologising for Extra channel
I just love these guys! :))
The back end looks better than the new one’s
Yeah I thought other people would notice the Ford escape look
I love the way the 86/BRZ look. My only issue with it is the price. It is priced to close to the WRX. The WRX is way more car for almost the same amount of money. The 86/BRZ should be about $5K cheaper than what it is.
The pricing is my biggest gripe with this car, It's too slow to even think about spending WRX money, which is a shame because it's a good looking RWD car, they should've been turbo'd
