Following that, Hetfield had asked him to come in and do some session work for Justice, because they still didn't have a bass. Somewhere along the line, Newted got the idea he was *in* Metallica. He got in an argument with the guys from F&J and allegedy said some stuff he couldn't take back; stuff about how they were jealous because they never really made it and they should be happy that he got the band he deserved, kind of stuff. So Hetfield, who was still a wreck, felt sorry for him and just basically started feeding him like a stray cat. How accurate and true all that is, who knows, but, one thing is certain and that's nobody but Hetfield liked him, or wanted him there. Theres lots and lots of stories about him being a self-important, whiny turd. But, the bottom line is, hes a mediocre bass player, a sub par musician and never was able to adapt to being in a different band; kept trying to shoehorn F&J into Metallica. So, there was a lot of friction over that. The breakup was a classic 'You can't fire me, because I quit' deal. Seeing his behavior since, Im inclined to believe that account is more accurate, than not, because he has spent the entire time, crying about how he was robbed. He and Megadave should get together. They can swap stories about how much their ex sucks.

Man, as a self proclaimed long time freak from the 80's I was surprised to learn newstead was behind this.. it wasn't on the radio.. I heard it one time live back in the DFW area in the late 80's early 90's . Along with nuclear assault and dead horse .. epic tines for sure.

Arguably, the best song from one of the greatest Thrash/Speed Metal albums of all-time; an absolute classic! If Newsted had never joined Metallica, this band could've gone places. They made some good albums after Doomsday... but the level of songwriting and arrangement was never as good again. Imo, of course.
