- As a clinical researcher with a focus in gut health, I find that it’s still hard to know if a SIBO breath test is effective.
Simply because false positives can occur and symptoms don’t always align with test outcomes.
Here at the clinic, we take many things into consideration when treating patients, such as their:

The thing is, getting the test and getting a positive is the only way to get prescribed rifaximin :/
So your saying don't get the test because it's unreliable? Then how do you find out what you have.. I'm so over it 😢
Breath test help us understand why we are having bloating, abdominal pain, why we can't tolerate certain foods, and our bowel habits have changed. Perhaps breath tests don't always explain what is going on to you, but as a patient I found it as an important tool in determining my treaatment and understanding what was wrong with my digestive health.
If you want to improve the treatment of functional digestive issues I think breath tests should be done sooner, and so should the IBS-SMART test. We should forgo or at least delay colonoscopies and endoscopies until we have ruled out functional digestive issues. Now that would speed up treatment, cut costs, and cut into Gastroenterologists income. Maybe they would take time to listen to us if they weren't spending all their time doing high cost procedures.
I’ve had Sibo for six years taken at least 15 breath test some came out negative sun came out positive. They are so not accurate. I gave up on the breath test go based on your symptoms.

So I'm doing the test but it's giving me negative results. But I have so many symptoms. I'm not sure what the flip to do?? I've now tested for 3 days using the air2 device and it's not giving me the correct results, I've got so many problems, I am even aware I have sifo as well.
4 years ago I did a breath test, definitely not as extensive as what I did last week. 4 years ago I was negative….only blew into 2 bags. Last week did the eating prep day before, only meat and rice, no diary, gluten etc. could only use salt and pepper and oil. Blew into 9 bags, 1st one after 12 hour fast. Then drank 2 tablespoons of lactulose and blew into 8 bags every 15 minutes. It came back positive. I have lost 30 unanswered pounds recently and food was going right through. I have a colostomy and all but 1 foot of large intestine, all my small. 18 years ago died with RectalCA, been in remission since. I think it depends on the breath test you do.
I am so tired of chiropractors calling themselves doctors, it should be illegal for you to be able to even put this qualification in your name.
What is the best way to treat SIBO? Antibiotics or natural antibiotics? Or just diet?
