  • Join me as I take you on an epic 7 day roadtrip through the southern part of Ireland. This travel guide explores the top attractions and best things to do that starts with a flight from Toronto to Dublin with Air Transat, down to Wicklow Mountains and the Glendalough Monastic City, Kilkenny, Rock of Cashel, Blarney Castle, Skellig Michael, Ring of Kerry, Kerry Cliffs, Killarney, Dingle Peninsula, Cliffs of Moher, Burren National Park, Galway, and then all the way back to Dublin.
    Throughout this trip, we learn the true meaning of Irish hospitality and the beauty of the dramatic countryside. The lush green rolling hills filled with sheep contrasted against the jagged and sharp coastline made for one of the most incredible roadtrips I've ever done and that includes my trip to Iceland. Skellig Michael is a must-do for lovers of puffins and Star Wars and is everything I dreamed of. 7 days was just enough to do this incredible loop but we came back wanting to see more. My hope is that this'll show you that 7 days in Ireland is completely possible and to inspire you to embark on your own journey.

    Coming from someone who lives on the west coast of Ireland, firstly outstanding photography, drone shots were phenomenal. You really do it justice. And well done on the place name pronunciation, so many vlogers butcher the names but you nailed it! Excellent video. You should make your videos into a longer travel diary's with funny musings and general observations as they're so good. Anyways, keep up the good work. Sláinte!🍻🍀

      Back then I had the original Mavic and I was able to fly it but with the tour, time was very limited so I had to pop it up near the end just before hiking back down. The wind was a bit down and it worked out but if there were strong winds I would be a bit nervous because of the terrain and recovery. Now owning the Mavic 3 I would feel much more confident because it can handle the wind much better.

    Don't go near the Temple bar pub in the Temple bar district.Its a tourist trap with the most expensive drinks in Ireland.Dubliners wouldn't go near the place!Try the Palace bar or the Porterhouse bar instead if you really want to go to the Temple bar area.Nice video!

    Great video! We are doing a 3 day Ireland Road trip, flying into Dublin and out of Cork. How much of this do you think we can cram into 3 days? What would you cut out? Ring of Kerry & Cliffs of Moher look like a must to us. Yes?

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 лет назад

      Thanks Jason! I would say Ring of Kerry is a must and with that, you're already at 2 day. Cliffs of Moher is impressive but if you're going direct from Ring of Kerry to there it's 3 hours 44 minutes so it's quite the drive out there actually and out of the way from Cork. Going to Dingle might make more sense or take it easy and explore around Cork after Ring of Kerry.

      I did notice that Ireland was more strict than other countries I've travelled to in recent years. They actually had explicit "no drone" signs set up in certain locations and where I saw them I heeded to the rules but where I didn't see a sign, I flew the drone.

    I'll visit the country this summer. We'll be going by rental car. I got my license since 7 years but never went for left side traffic. How is starting at Dublin airport? Do I get used to it quickly and do you have any tips? Can I navigate properly with phone from the start? Thanks and keep it up :)

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Markus! It wasn't that bad starting from the Dublin airport because you have multiple lanes to work with and you're pretty much heading straight onto the freeway/highway from there.
      In terms of driving tips, I'd say start slow. The disorienting part about driving on the other side of the road is that your head will tell you that your body needs to be closer to the left line on the road but you have to constantly tell yourself that your body needs to be on the right line of the lane. Also to help, start making a mental note of where the line on the road comes in and hits your windshield and use that as a mark for where you should be in the lane. Otherwise, you will notice yourself start drifting left. The other thing to be really careful about is your turns. Before you make a turn, just call out whether it's a small or big turns you have an idea of where to look because that's what can easily get you in trouble. Sounds scary but honestly once you drive a day or two you'll get the hang of it!
      If you want a more detailed guide, make sure to read my article here which has a full picture of how our trip went: goingawesomeplaces.com/everything-need-know-plan-road-trip-ireland/
      Hope that helps!

      @@GoingAwesomePlaces these were very helpful tips! I highly appreciate, thanks for that. Anyways I'm a bit scared for how it will be. Luckily we wanna instantly drive west to Clare so the motorway ride should do for practice. I am not an inexperienced driver and I got a person on the other seat to help me watch out. I'll also check out the article and anything Ireland related you got. Thanks a lot from Germany! 😌

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  5 лет назад +1

      You’re welcome! The part to be careful about are the small roads that GPS will take you through which even in County Clare will happen. Just drive slowly and give way to the trucks and oncoming cars. The roads will feel like almost one land streets but it’s so-able. Use the grass to left to let people through.

  • @alexpho
    @alexpho 6 лет назад +1

    My family will be touring Ireland in July. I consider myself a good driver, however never driven on the left side of the road before. Is it that difficult and perhaps dangerous? Seems like renting a car is also the most logical.

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 лет назад

      Renting a car is definitely the best way to go if you really want to explore the country and not be tied to a tour bus. If it's your first time driving on the left side of the road, I'd take the first day to get used to it and perhaps not hit the small country roads right away which might be a shock/stressful. Driving around Dublin isn't great so plan around not using the car there. Highway driving is super easy but just remember the fast lane is on the opposite side of what you're used to. The hardest part about driving in Ireland are the super narrow roads that are very often only 1.5 car widths wide so you just need to be cautious and squeeze off to the run off to the left when bigger cars are oncoming (the locals drive kind of wild and fast). I got the hang of it pretty quickly but as with driving anywhere, stay alert and drive much more cautiously than you would back home. The biggest part about driving on the left side of the road is that you gotta re-adjust here your body positioning is on the road. You are going to start listing to the left because you feel like your body should be closer to the left line of the lane when in fact you need to be closer to the right line. Hope that helps!!

    • @alexphong6206
      @alexphong6206 6 лет назад +1

      Thank you bro. I will definitely keep your valuable points in mind and the others ( also will max out on the insurance liabilities ). Last question, did you pre-book your Skellig Michael boat trip or buy at the town where the boat departed? Thanks

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 лет назад

      Yes absolutely pre-book! I'm so glad that we did because as you know it's becoming more and more of a known attraction. When we were there, there were folks that booked on the day of but if I were you, I wouldn't risk it!!

    • @GoingAwesomePlaces
      @GoingAwesomePlaces  6 лет назад

      Also keep in mind that the boats can't go every day as it is very dependent on the weather and water conditions. I would plan on going on your day of choice but be open to change your sched if need be. The day before, the company actually emails you to let you know whether it's a go or no-go.

      No worries at all - keep the questions coming! So let me get to your questions: 1) I recommended from Europcar and they had some fabulous rates that even the lady at the counter was surprised with. My recommendation is to book early. 2) Yes we booked B&Bs via Booking.com (make sure to take advantage of my special referral link - goingawesomeplaces.com/booking-com-40-cash-reward-next-hotel/) in advance and I would recommend doing your research ahead of time because they fill up quickly especially during high season. 3) I did have data via KnowRoaming from Canada but there were times when I didn't and that's when I really needed to have Google Maps offline ("OK Maps" trick) and I had all the main sightseeing spots saved and pinned. Hope that helps!
