After G&L, no one is going to do much more for the basic design, though I have often hoped Fender would release a standard short scale model. Reverend build some great Fender ish designs if you really wanted a diff take. To me, a Tele is all about the ash tray and barrel bridges and those specific pickup types , - including the many variations on the neck pickup. I tried several "newer" builders for a decade, but ended up going back to Fender. At this stage, I think PRS is trying to poach every last player they can get; they've always been far down my list of maybes , after Charvel, Ibanez, Yamaha, and even Schecter. The Santana model is okay....
That's always the thing with PRS guitars, they just seem like pretty standard guitars for way more than they're worth. Like, I'm sure a Silver sky is nice, but I could also buy the exact same thing for cheaper, and with a better headstock (shape-wise at least, I dunno if they have the same tuning problems Gibsons face.) At least with these Tele's they gave you different pickups than usual, but besides that, idk. Seems pretty boring.
I think PRS accidentally stumbled into the worst thing guitar companies could ask for in this economic climate, and that’s consumer-base indifference They're lucky they put out the SE 594 & DGT before they went all in on a PRS Tele
I'll do you another one. You know how GTA games have their own generic version of cars. It looks kinda like BMW, but if somebody drew a BMW from description without seeing one? This is a GTA guitar. It looks weirdly generic guitar in some sort of media, if they couldn't be bothered to do product placement.
When you switched your FX unit to the Deluxe Reverb setting, it started to sound good. Like you, I’m not crazy about the blue finish-if it showed more wood grain I’d like it better. I do like the trans white finish-what’s it called, white doghair? I think the problem with the model is the price-$3000 for what’s basically a nice Tele that’s not vintage? If PRS does an SE version I think they’ll sell loads! I’d be interested in that myself, but $3K is out of my price range.
Well I for one am absolutely disgusted that this guitar is $3000 and PRS still hasn't covered it in my favorite color of blue with metal flakes! This is an outrage!!!!!!
I'm a little confused... Didn't I see a bunch of reviews of this guitar a month or two ago? Pretty much everyone loved it. As for the price, I'm sure there will be an SE version that will be 90% there for a third of the price...
I like the Tele inspired PRS guitar, as it sounds very good. I heard Phil McKnight say that he thought that Modelers sound better when the input is from hotter pickups. If that can be demonstrated as a real thing, guitar manufacturers and pickup makers are missing a real opportunity to develop and market pickups and guitars that specifically take advantage of that phenomenon.
When I first saw it, especially the doghair finish, I thought it was goofy. Then I found out it was Three Large and I thought it was stupid. Wait for a Firefly HH Tele and wire in a (PRS) coil split.
No matter how many people who hate, there will be fans! If we all liked the same thing, it would be boring! I'm sure that there will be someone, apart from Myles, who will make this sing for them?
most of the videos came from gear fest with channels editing in their hotel rooms so they could have a video up on launch day. So very few people who made videos actually got to keep one to make more content with. That might be part of that.
This would be WAY down the list if I had 3k to spend on a guitar. Its so boring that I can’t even be bothered to think of something cutting and interesting to say about it.
It seems like they sunk a ton of money into development and production of a humbucker pickup that is trying to sound even more like a Tele bridge pickup than the existing attempts. Despite the supposed positive reactions from Nashville players they had try it, I predict that in the long run people will still choose Tele bridge pickups. Plus, completely misunderstanding that many people like the Tele neck pickup was a misstep.
It’s not a completely new pickup, it’s based on PRS’s narrow-field humbucker, they just made them thicker to add more winds and put in metal slugs between the pickups (but only on the NF53, the Myles Kennedy doesn’t have those.)
@@joermnyc Yes, it is based on the narrow-fields. But the only justification I can see for the price is trying to recoup development costs, tooling costs, and if production costs are higher. Even what may end up looking like a small modification can take quite a lot of development to arrive at. But, granted, I only come to that line of reasoning by trying to come up with a scenario where it makes any sense at all. And even with that scenario, I’m still not convinced it makes sense.
It’s always funny seeing people say this and not acknowledge Fender has teles at similar prices. This does have some r&d on the pickups that has non zero cost. With a fender you’re literally paying for 50+ year old tech
I'd really like to get one of these! 3k is out of my budget though, maybe if it came in a color that spoke to me and was a little less expensive I'd try and save for one.

Everyone makes copies. This one isn't any different. The irony is that you can get several different Ric models for what this mediocre guitar costs.
I think they failed on the look in both ways. Too non-traditional to attract the tele crowd, too plain to attract the PRS guys. The thing looks like an early 2000's budget guitar, and the way the pickups don't fill the routes at the top make it look like someone tried to put the wrong shaped pickups into it. I think binding would've helped make it look both more Tele style and also blinged it up for the usual PRS. I think its obvious no company wants to introduce a new guitar with binding, Gibson has acted the same way with its last few new body styles. These same "time saving" design decisions are the same decisions that were made to bring $350 guitars down to $150 guitars. Like the Fiore, it doesn't LOOK like a $3000 instrument. In PRS's own line you can get something that was made with just as much skill and quality, AND look like a million bucks and you'll be paying less.
