I have met him once and he is exactly as classy and charming as you say and feel he is. I saw him again many years later live and he still recognized me when I managed to move up close and bowed one more time to me before the band left the stage
He sure is. One of the best concerts I ever attended was an Eric Burdon show back about 1988-89. The guy has an honest intensity in his performances that is rarely demonstrated so consistently by any rock & roll singers I have ever heard and seen.
Eric your are such a gentleman!!! These people on here were so rude. 🙄 But I admit, I admire not only your great voice & talent, but I love how you kept your composure over people like these on this video. 👍🏻🥰❤️❤️❤️
You obviously weren't around back then. Mike was actually one of the coolest ever, but he slid the bands in (often for their first national TV appearance) while joking to the old folks who didn't get it. The bands got it and it was 'big time' back then to be invited. Example: The Rolling Stones, Bo Diddley, The Kinks, Patti Smith, Frank Zappa and John Lennon(Plastic Ono Band) made some of their early showings on this show among a 100 others. And many controversial people like Malcolm X, MLK Jr, Bobby Seale were guests. Note: Mike Douglas started out a successful Big Band singer but became one of the most influential people ever on TV.

Yes, and not only invited but allowed John Lennon and Yoko Ono and Sonny Bono & Cher to co-host his show for a week each. Mike Douglas also had many other rock & roll guests, including The Rolling Stones in 1964, The Turtles, Sly & the Family Stone, Lesley Gore, The Supremes, Cass Elliot, Little Richard, Blondie, Patti Smith and The Clash, among many others. "The Mike Douglas Show', as with most TV talk shows in the 1960s and 1970s, was also 90 minutes in length, leaving a generous amount of time (about 65-70 minutes after commercials) for a few performances of songs plus an interview with a musical guest. This is unlike TV talk shows today, which are only an hour-long, leaving about only a half hour for everything else, after the host's opening monologue and commercials. Mike Douglas had ample time to have a cooking segment or play a game of Twister with his co-hosts and guests. And Douglas also sang a song at the beginning of his show for many years, with a house band to back him up as well his guests (such as a Tony Bennett or Judy Garland) who were singers but without their own bands. I think 'The Mike Douglas Show' may have been cut back to an hour in length in its final years in the 1980s, also moved to late afternoon in many media markets, both factors which contributed to the demise of a great TV talk and variety show which had been a favorite of housewives and school children (who could watch the show after school or when home sick and during school and summer vacations) for a few decades.
@@gymnastix Mike Douglas wasn't a particularly memorable singer or raconteur and wouldn't have made it as a talk show host today. But he was a decent, laid back and gentle man who gave a lot of space to the guests who appeared on his show. I miss his brand of TV.
That woman had no chill. Damn. I hope Eric was cussing her out internally. And that guy coming out in a gorilla suit to "audition" for a spot in the band....seriously? Was this a thing on this show? To mock the people that traveled a long way to perform for them. So rude.
That's Van Johnson in the gorilla suit. He could have acknowledged Eric and the group. Can't think of her name, but she was unpleasant. Molly Goldberg? something like that. The Animals were good.
Of all the "old guard" entertainers who had variety shows in the early 60's and were told to have British Invasion acts on their shows, I think Danny Kaye was the most welcoming and gracious. Lots of the others were downright rude to the Animals, Stones, etc.
