- The whole world sat up and took notice in 1964 when powerhouse vocalist Eric Burdon and his group The Animals unleashed their incendiary chart-topping cover of Dylan's House Of The Rising Sun, a single destined to become the very cornerstone of rock music. A fabled career post-Animals, success in the U.S. and friends with Hendrix, followed by a stint with iconic funk band War, Eric discusses his career to date with Whispering Bob Harris in 1973
Eric Burdon was very underrated and he was actually quite handsome in his 30's and 40's

Whenever the Animals were on RSG you knew it was going to be great… one of my favourite bands from the ‘60’s. When I first heard House of the Rising Sun on my little transistor radio in ‘64 I was awestruck… Eric’s incredible vocals & Pricey’s superb keyboard playing made an indelible impression on my 14 year old mind… it still sounds amazing today!
In the early 70's I had the best surprise when he and the band performed with Big Mama Thornton and Jimmy Witherspoon at a small theater in San Gabriel. The best memories of that day. I have always loved him 💕.
I just love the way he thinks and love his music. Great interview. I was fortunate enough to grow up at the same time as Eric Burdon in the UK.

It's sad that Eric's bands never become this popular like the beatles or other 60s musicians. In Germany, the onliest animal song they play in radio is House of the rising sun, but man, there are so many other good ones... :/

I've been on a love/hate deep dive of AI music, particularly one singer's vocal sounding like another. (ex: Paul McCartney AI singing Beach Boys). It's interesting that he's talking about a mellotron replacing an orchestra. Technology, man.

Very true. The was a really old kind of blues folk song that had been around for decades before the Animals covered it so magnificently in the '60's.
And, growing up in the Greater New Orleans area, I learned that there really was a House of the Rising Son. Quite an interesting history.
