Bowie was a hero to me, -and millions of people around the world. I got a copy of "Diamond Dogs" for my seventh birthday -and decided to "be a musician" at the age of 10. What I love most about Bowie was the fact that he was so extraordinarily gifted -and yet, exceptionally humble. It was deeply shocking when he "passed". I'm certain that his work will live forever, and I'm very grateful that he left behind such an inspirational body of work and that he was such a great "role model." for an artist. I can't say "goodbye" I will see you on the other side.

No, he thought Iggy cutting himself was funny. There's a bit on the Dinah Shore show where they were talking about that and he said it was funny. Iggy was there and didn't seem bothered though.

Laughing Lark I know, I wonder if he regretted it. My Mum did the same and she did and they were too big too. They did settle in eventually but as one ages, they don’t like your banal teeth and often look out of place...
@@LisaMarie-xp4ym His crowns didn't look bad at all. On most people, it's a really big improvement, but he could carry off a snaggle tooth smile like no one else. Kind of like wearing an untied tie like a sash. No one else has ever pulled that off. I just liked his snaggle-tooth look better. Normally I don't. Bowie was truly a designer original. Miss him so much....

I saw the Sound & Vision Tour in 1990 4 times and met David in Detroit, Great great show and the video effects were great. ( go to Sound & Vision from Tokyo 1990 see the whole show)
I saw him in 1990 (Sound And Vision tour) and in 1987 for The Glass Spider tour. I'm glad that I got to see him live a couple of times. I wish I could've seen him in the 1970's... but I was a child back then.
Amazing how many British TV presenters couldn't manage to pronounce his name properly. What great candid interview with a very humble Bowie.

@@lynnsmithershubbard1896 You very obviously were never listening to US radio all through the 1970's. It took US disc jockeys years to get it right, subsequently their listeners all followed their pronunciation.
Frank Donnelly Annoying wasn’t it? Especially when the pop stars of the time eg those involved with live aid started doing the same. Thing is even when they did it in front of him he didn’t pick them up on it and later on if they asked him how it should be pronounced he would say “well I always thought it was Bowie” (as in bow and arrow) “but people can pronounce it how they want” I think he’d given up at that point and didn’t care that much how it was pronounced. After all it was just a stage name, he thought of himself as David Jones. When he introduced himself he always said Bowie as in bow and arrow too, and then the presenters would still pronounce it as in taking a bow, you’d think people would take the trouble to see how he said it when talking about himself. He did once say it annoyed him when people called him Dave though 😂
@@andalltheangelssay212 David Bowie once said in an interview that he THOUGHT it was pronounced BO-wee. However, it is a Scotish name, and, he learned that they pronounce it BOO-wee. It was likely pronounced BOO-wee by James Bowie from whom David chose the name (because of the knife David fancied). James Bowie was of Scotish heritage. Others say BAO-wee. David accepted either, after awhile. It is a language thing depending how vowels are pronounced in a language. But, he preferred BO-wee.

Bowie at this time in his career could be a tough, temperamental interview. But here with Gambaccini, a respected American journo based in the UK; Bowie was respectful and forthcoming. Good interview and nice insights.

Very interesting interview that gives insight to this musicians' musicianship. I believe that performance artists are individuals and they thoughtfully craft their art and design their work for themselves,and their peers, and they love their audience members thateach performance, they go on the journey together. None of us are the same, and each person's mind perceives differently. I love good music, and the oral practice of singing language. Many illiterate persons love to sing and some of them are very peaceful and bright minded. Without ARTISTS where would one be?
He is a very interesting character and way ahead of his time in most things...however, ddn't care for Tin Machine but everything else was WONDERFUL...miss you David x

There is none. That's what he was trying to get us to pick up on. We need to change that. Lol. I'm more interested in Animusic these days than the music that's modern. Sucks. Pretty sad when you wanna hear something different and you gotta go back to this guy. I mean hes wonderful and stuff it's just sad that he's still interesting and music today isn't.
@@angiedorman9244 theres a lot of new music today that is fresh and experimental. David Bowie listened to Kendrick Lamar's 2015 album To Pimp A Butterfly to get inspo for his last album. Perhaps try listening to that? Theres so much great music being released today, you just have to keep an open mind and be curious like bowie.
@@verderosa1887 I know but we got people that use things to enhance their voice or they do tricks or something. I don't often hear something natural that I like. I don't like fake singing or milli vanilli type singing, but I like natural singing. I want to do what you suggested. Any suggestions on who is good and who is not? And who is mainstream? I mean I like mainstream too, but it's boring. I'd rather hear sounds of what you wanna sing about naturally or stuff that nobody's heard. I'm just like Bowie. I'm open minded. I just don't like fake shit. He didn't either. Anything you think he would like or he got inspiration from, tell me, because I like the people he got inspiration from. Mike, Gail, Adrian, Trent, Foo Fighters, anybody. I don't care who knows them or not. I like people, not what everybody else likes. I'm not a robot. Lol. I'm open minded just like him...just selective. I know what I like and what I don't. I like what stands out to me. And P.S. I like your comment and I try to be open minded but it's hard. I like all different types of music, it's just the way you sing them or who sings them or whatever. Bowie used to take other people's songs and sing them like they were his own. That's why I usually like his versions better than the original version. What's really funny is I thought Man Who Sold the World was Nirvanas, but it was Dave's. I didn't really like the acoustic version very much, but I like Dave's, and it IS the original version. Lol. Sorry it's so long. Had a lot to say. 🙂❤. And I do like Nirvana.
@@verderosa1887 I don't know what he got out of that but I LOVE IT! I'm listening to King Kunta and it's the first song on the album. I like it. What's funny is I been listening to old school gangsta rap for the past couple of days cause I think it's classier than the modern rap they have now. This is great! It's not old school but it's great! I think I hear a little bit of Lazarus in the song after that... and Snoop Dogg.
@@angiedorman9244 I love nirvana! You have a point of that voices are typically altered today; for me it just doesn't bother me. I just try to listen to it for what it is. In regards to music today; I feel like there is so much out there which I don't know about! But I really have loved this artist called delroy edwards who was trained as a jazz drummer & now makes dance music; he released music very regularly. Billie Eilish's new album When We Fall Asleep, Where do We Go? is very good to me; her voice is nice I think but I don't know how much it's altered. Another album whereby the singing is good is Teyana Taylor's K.T.S.E. Also I like Tyler The Creator's new album Igor; he's got that sense of narrative similar to Bowie. I do wonder if Bowie would have got any thing from any of these albums; I'd like to think he would have. Do you have any artists to recommend me? I want to get into listening to more old school rap

The tradition of song and singing is so important and needs legal representation in our courts and laws that protect ones ability to freely access music. Many disabled people aren't able to speak for themselves. Some can overcome isolation of phone technologies by listening to music on other devices.. The hard part is streaming is costly and not free. I love music and music lovers.

I have heard the rumours that he was drinking too much and dabbling back with the coke in the TM era. He has always credited Iman for helping him get sober.
