If he'll be back, assuming we will get to see Sabody, they'll either introduce him in flashback, possibly by being only nice person on Arlong crew to Nami. That, or they'll excuse him by saying he went away to tend to seacows or something.
He does. It's a standout moment. Because until now, zeff had been giving off a vibe that he wasn't too fond of Luffy, but then this moment shows the opposite. He knows Luffys capacity. He was just being a dad being tough on Luffy. Plus Luffy taking responsibility showed zeff he wasn't just some stupid kid.
It was a moment that showed Zeff saw a grand line pirate in luffy. Zeff was an experienced pirate likely seeing people who are standouts. It is an important facts that the two people impressed by luffy are mihawk and Zeff who are pirate veterans
One of the things I have enjoyed about the live action is the number of people who decided to watch the anime afterwards and were pleasantly surprised at how good it is.
When the live premiered, my wife and I were going to watch it but decided to watch the first couple episodes of the anime first. That was October or November. We finished the entire series last week. So I guess whether the live is good or bad is irrelevant as it served its purpose.
They totally took the "I'll pay you with future treasure" thing from the first One Piece movie, where Luffy gave the owner of the traveling Oden restaurant an I.O.U. written on a rock.
Not having Sanji witness Zoro's fight with Mihawk was the one change to the series that I can't get over; it's important to Sanji's development, and it would have been so simple (and inexpensive) to have Sanji standing there watching.
@@sparxskywriter2589 that's bad way to approach it. "There's too many characters, so we should give up" is such quitter take. One Piece is very much bloated with characters, in early story it was just more subtle, and Oda was more than happy to let some characters fade away after their few pages of significance. Also, crew being smaller helped. It's inevitable that some characters will be cut or mashed together, some plot points will be changed, but as long as spirit of the original story is kept, and things happening makes logical sense, there is no issue here at all.
@@sparxskywriter2589 I know. Peter Jackson should really give back the Oscars for the Lord of the Ring movies and delete them from all streaming services.
I feel like this problem was even more obvious in Arlong Arc. first by cutting hatchan which is important later on in shabondy . and also how they cut out that Nojiko, gonzo and the rest of the villager actually knew the truth about Nami and cut all their involvement in the fight. there is also that scene when Nojiko explains Nami's backstory. while anime Luffy refuses to listen ,in Livaaction he listens to the story, which is why it comes off strange when Nami asks him you know nothing and he says I do. this goes against Luffy's character as he doesn't really care about someone's past only his present this is shown again later on in Fishman Island when he sleeps when Jinbe starts talking about his backstory.
I also didn't like that Nami witnessed the marines being racist to Arlong. Like that realization was a big moment for her in Sabody and they just rushed it for some reason. All they had to do was just not have her there when Arlong talked to Nezu but of course they just couldn't do that lol.
They DID plan out an entire fight scene for Hatchi and they even designed his character but they couldn't put it in because it proved too expensive for an already very expensive show
@@demoneyez97 I actually agree with that. Garp was my least favourite in the live-action. The fight between him and Luffy felt unnecessary as well. I feel like they should have spent more time on Arlong Park instead.
I think the live action is leaning more towards the children going on a pirate adventure and then facing their first real roadblock with Arlong and Mihawk. Whereas in the manga, luffy and to a certain extent Zoro were kind of already overpowered and a little bit more mature. I mean look at Luffy's intro. He beats the monster that bit off shank's arm. Then shruggs off being shot at and kind of one-shotting all of alvida's crew. For all of east blue, I felt that he was a superman like figure who can basically overcome anything thrown at him. And he is responsible for his decisions and Shows that he understands his crew on an innate level. Whereas live-action luffy is a mere kid in a pirate cosplay out to make his dream come true. In baratie, Luffy has to learn a little bit about responsibility when Zoro is knocked out, something that manga Luffy kind of already knew. So, live action Luffy is much less, oh this captain who I want to follow to the earth's end but first he must learn some valuable lessons and more this audacious kid who hopes to dream. He is a little more Naruto-esque in that way. So, he has a lot more room to grow. I think that it's a different interpretation of Luffy and not necessarily a worse version.
I wouldn't call luffy mature. But he definitely was way too strong for east blue. His first real struggle was Smoker, and to some extent Arlong. Also, things Luffy learns here are things he learns in Manga as well. Whole water 7 was Luffy learning about responsibilities of the Capitan, that they're not just friends but a crew, and he needs to step up and make hard decisions. Tho this lesson for him started all the way in Drum Islan where Vivi had to taught him that not everything can be solved with fists, and he will sometimes have to talk with others and ask for help. So his character development was pushed earlier, not created out of nowhere. Which makes sense, I honestly feel like people working on Live Action honestly never thought they would get second season, or that it will blew this hard.
This sucks. Sanjis recruitment and all the early crew stories were all paramount to the one piece world building. I still recall the Sanji fried rice scene after so many years because of how strongly it introduces his values. That entire arc was so good, one of the best early OP arcs.
Luffy: A happy go lucky, truthful, simple-minded guy who does what he wants. Zoro: A serious looking, faithful, honorable guy who cuts what he wants. Sanji: A deep-minded, thoughtful, knowledgeable, intelligent, calm and well-mannered guy who kicks what he thinks should be kicked and maintains chivalry everytime. Guess who's development they cut the most🥲. I swear Sanji just gets hated or put in the back for normal reason. Dude is the Clutch MVP. He has more clutches than any character. He knows what's important, does it, expects no praise from his captain (expects only from nami and Robin lol) and is chill as hell. If they cut his clutch in Alabasta Saga, there's gonna be cancellations
My guy, Sanji only starts going ham at little garden and alabasta. You know, arcs that haven't been adapted yet. His character development has not been snuffed. They did his introduction well
You might want to add asteriks to sanjis description considering half that goes out the window when women are involved. Also sanjis intelligence isn't really shown in the east blue.
Honestly, I agree with everything you said, but I also think I’m okay with Luffy maybe growing from “maybe I can’t beat you” to the anime “I’ll kick your ass no matter what” mentality he is known for over the next couple seasons of the LA. Luffy is primarily a static character in the manga, which works perfectly, but if they are trying to give a bit of character development where he goes from being less confident to gaining the confidence he has in the manga; I wouldn’t be against it if they do it right. They also may take these criticisms well in season 2 and tweak his quirks a bit to make him feel more like his usual confidence. Hope to see improvement in all these areas
The whole point of him being ridiculously confident when it comes to fighting his opponents is that all brought too our attention after marineford luffy fought harder than he ever had before breaking his limits multiple times and still lost Although as you said if they do it right too have him build confidence and then have it completely crushed would be very impressive
It‘s even more of a shame since there was a wanted poster for Jango at the start of episode 2 on a bounty board. (Could have been episode 3 or 4 as well, but I can‘t be assed to check.)
This leads to bon clay. How can they cut out bon clay? Impel down won't hit the same for sure. If there's no baroque works. They could still do alabasta without baroque works but thatll ruin impel down. They would surely cut the elbaf giants fight which means bon clay intro and valentine and mr5. Everyone. That also takes away one of usopps dreams. To visit that kingdom. Because why would he want to go if he hadn't bonded with the giants.
@VideoGamesMusicMe Why are you acting like Bon Clay is already cut? I highly doubt he will as he is too important. It’s more likely Hina will be cut just like Fullbody and Jango and Bon Clay’s sacrifice and capture will just go to Smoker instead. Cause it doesn’t really matter who captures Bon Clay, it just has to happen by someone.
I wonder if Ian McShane will appear in One Piece live action show's Season 2 by cameoing in his costume of Blackbeard from Pirates of the Caribbean among the crowd of people and pirates.
Huh.. didn't even relieze that WAS fullbody at bartie, its been at least a decade since i read or watched east blue stuff and i geuinely forgot he was a character
None of the stuff listed in this videoare things the show runner's had any control over. Matt Owens HAD to make hard cuts. I swear, you guys have the most unrealistic expectations ever. The fact that this series was as good as it is was an Eneru-forsakin miracle, and all you can do is nitpick the carp out of it.
@@roger_towny_jrpersonally I didn't need it to exist. Still don't. All it does is butcher the Manga and I can't watch it. Just awful for me. Glad some people enjoy it, but if it got cancelled tomorrow I wouldn't give a shit
@savage4242 It didn't "butcher the manga" dude. the manga still exists. Get over yourself. The worst thing this live action did was introduce the story to people who were too intimidated by the 1000+ episode count of the anime. New fans. Oh what horror.
What I do love though is how the Live Action is consistent in showing that LA Luffy is a very different (and arguably weaker) version of him. The way he fights, the way he acts, the learns, and the way he acquires his crew are all vastly different. One of the main takeaways that I got after watching the Live Action was that "this Luffy is INEPT". That may not be a bad thing if they gradually build him up throughout the Grand Line. All the points of the video are still valid though. Luffy definitely got off too easy considering how he got his crew into deep shit.
This was super well done imo. I strongly agree that time limits the LA story. I also feel budget and effects do too. The power lv is much much lower, and probably needs to be. Budget and time are OP
I wish the reduced the carp/coby storyline in half and worked more on the main strawhats arcs. It was a cool idea but it took so much time away from the main cast.
I assume they cut out the don kreig thing because they thought sanji would have another character arc on whole cake to look into his past and so, if we absolutely have to remove a core arc, we'll remove the don kreig one
It's important to note that the live action characters deviate a lot to their manga characters to begin with: Manga Luffy went nearly unchallenged in the east blue as far as fair fights go, whereas live action Luffy met a match in Arlong same goes for the other Straw Hats more or less, different from the manga doesn't necessarily mean bad.
Wait Gally has a bounty of 5m? Doesn't the mountain bandit that got shanks eaten by a sea beast had a bounty of 8m? How does a mountain bandit that sticks to one island have a higher bounty then a actual pirate?
If we think about the fact he was in Windmill Village, that means he's on Goa Island, and there are ample opportunities to get into trouble with nobles in the big city. He probably crossed some random noble OR did a lot more horrible things than Gally did - murder, rape, kidnapping, etc. All it takes it doing the wrong thing to the wrong person to get a bounty much higher than it should be. As always, bounties aren't solely rated on might, but also on how dangerous a person is and how much the WG wants them dead.
my main problem is that the live action luffy doesn't feel like luffys actual character. i love inyaki but the actual writing of luffy in the live action doesnt feel right. Like why does luffy listen to namis story, talk to zoro about it, then find nami and say he doesn't know whats going on? If they were gonna make it so that luffy DID care about where people came from, why would they keep the of course i will scene when it didn't make sense? idk bro!
This is to be taken with a grain of salt.. right? Because I personally think the Live Action did really great capturing the feelings of the first arcs. Yeah, because of time constraints they had to mix up plot points, but for the general narrative, they did INSANELY well. I am caught up in One Piece, I’ve read the Manga AND watch the Anime, so I went into the show with a knowledgable mind. I see where you’re going, but like… yeah. Sorry for the paragraph and a half of stuff. (I be just ranting) ❤
I can agree. While I liked the live-action series and things got shifted from the manga into television to fit,the arc that felt rushed the most was Baratie which was one of the arcs that really got me fully involved when I started watching the anime which affected the next one. Hopefully that will not be too much of a problem in season 2
I just rewatched the Sanji and Gin scene from the anime and realised that when Luffy decided to have Sanji join his crew, it's after Sanji helps Gin with a big smile on his face. Luffy responds with that classic Joyboy giggle and asks Sanji to join because he fits the role of cook on the crew of Joyboy perfectly, helping the less fortunate with a smile
They did bad for Sanji, Usopp and Zoro' recruitment. How they could even decide to show Shanks' quotes not to fight and Luffy's admiration of Zoro beating down all marines in same episode?
@@Ruffeep Helmeppo didn't attack. He stomped the wasted food, was angry (it's Smoker's moment who can calmly forgive), and said to the kid to go. Neither other marines deserved to be beaten up. Zoro originally never touched Helmeppo for such reasons, he himself yelled at the girl to not mess around there
They traded sanji's development for the having coby and helmeppo's journey with the marines. The real problem is that the network limits the series to 8 episodes max. If they had 10 episodes they could've fit more baratie without spending much more because the entire set was already built and also make the arlong appearance have more development and substance too by using the se physical set more. This series really needed 10 episodes to be just perfect with their desicions to focus so much on garp
I’m only 3 1/2 minutes in so I might be jumping the gun… But certain Easter egg characters are worth more screen time than minor actual characters and I think most would agree. Gyari being the antagonist in one of the One Piece pilot chapters definitely deserves a nod, and if we have to make cuts, cutting Gaimon and Fullbody just makes sense. Very interested to find out if the rest of this video changes my mind. After finishing the video, I agree that there are building blocks that were unfortunately left out, but did not need to be accomplished using the characters that were cut. In my opinion, there is no problem with cutting or reducing characters, but clearly there were subtle and not so subtle plot points that they still should have found a way to write in.
As someone that hasn't watched all of one piece extensively, I really enjoy the live action! I think it's a good show in it's own right, rather than just a live action of an anime/manga.
The main problem is that us long time watcher know how much these small cuts add up as the shows go on, many small character that appear in the east blue saga appear in the later part of the show, and not having them in here takes a lot of the emotional weight later on. heck even not adding a small make-up for sanji eyebrow takes a lot of great things that happen in the future.
Got 44 seconds into this video, realized it was about the Live action, couldn’t care less about anything for the next 15 minutes, Mate, I know. This was never viable, and its unsalvageable… maybe in 50-1000 years the technology and advancements in acting prowess will allow for a live action adaptation reboot… this was always doomed to fail though, the word Netflix alone should have warned everyone of that.
The true purpose of One Piece Live Action is to attract new fans to the manga/anime (current and future retelling) and merchandising. One Piece Merchandise has increased considering 4Kids hurt One Piece to the point that even despite Funimation fixing the dub the show wasn't as mainstream to be located in stores. This Live Action is Oda's extra spending money due to royalties, not to mention the lesser known actors'/actresses' careers will surely launch to higher roles in the future.
While you make some good points, as far as Luffy being ready for the Grand Line, I would counter that even in the manga we can't be sure he is at that point. Yes, he beat Don Kreig, but all that shows is that he is more ready to face the adversity ahead than Kreig was. Kreig washed out after a week on the Grand Line, so it is entirely possible that someone could be at him yet still not be ready for the Grand Line itself. That was my takeaway after reading Baratie. The only thing that finally proved to me that Luffy was indeed ready for the Grand Line was actually reaching the Grand Line and seeing Luffy not only survive but actually thrive and grow as he progressed through it. I mean, Kreig was put down by Mihawk and forced to run back to the East Blue with his tail between his legs. For Luffy to truly demonstrate at this point that he is ready for the Grand Line would have been NOT beating the failure (Kreig), but beating the one who caused him to fail (Mihawk), and that doesn't happen, even in the manga. I think that is what the live action was going for. The only way to prove you're able to survive the Grand Line is to survive the Grand Line (or at least to take down one of the major threats that makes the Grand Line so dangerous). Kreig WAS a major threat to Luffy at that point in the story, but he was most decidedly NOT a Grand Line level threat. So, in my mind, the audience SHOULD be left questioning whether Luffy is up to the challenge ahead, and the omission of the fight against Don Kreig helps set that up. The key point of Baratie as it relates to the Grand Line is that Mihawk singlehandedly destroyed a whole fleet that tried to enter the Grand Line prematurely and the Strawhats were unable to beat him. That is still our big takeaway in the live action. The manga muddies the waters by throwing Kreig into the mix so some people see Luffy beat him and suddenly believe, "Oh wow! Luffy beat that guy so he MUST be ready for the challenges of the Grand Line!" In reality, that's like saying Joe challenged a chess grand master and lost, I beat Joe, so I would definitely be able to beat the grand master. It doesn't work that way. If I beat the guy that BEAT the grand master, THEN you could pretty safely infer that I could probably beat the grand master, but beating someone that lost to them doesn't tell you anything about how ready I am to face the grand master, especially if my victory over that failed challenger was a very narrow one. That just says I'm BARELY better than this guy that lost to the grand master.
Everybody are talking about the end of Alabasta in season 2 but honestly I hope they end it at Drum Island. I think the conclusion of the Drum Island arc would be a good season ending and it mean we could have all of season 3 be the Alabasta Arc. If not that mean just rushing Loguetown, Reverse mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, Drum Island AND Alabasta in one season and I want them to take their time with most of these arcs. The only thing I think they could do to cut corner without to much problem is combining the events of Reverse mountain and Whiskey Peak.
@@roberto7288I don't mind them adding more things if they don't skip important part. I can easily see them adding a sub plot with smoker, Tashigi and even Buggy in season 2.
I cant bring myself to watch the live action for precisely these reasons, I am worried of being massively disappointed with the character developemenet they didn't work on😢
@@danielsmid3777 I can't, If you start with the live action then move the manga/anime, I guess its logical. But I would've much prefered they take their time and do it right. I've waited this long to get to where we are in the manga, what's a couple years to get a solid 3-4 seasons of proper material made for the entire East Blue saga. I'm sure there are many hardcore fans thats work in the industry of film production, and wouldve been more than glad to help, and probably free sometimes, with the developement of the effects, just to be able to say they were a part of it...
It could be that Garp actually called Mihawk a week before the Straw Hats reached the Baratie, but they placed the scene out of chronological order for a better flow of the plot.
I wouldn't exactly call them problems tho. Or at least privlems that need fixing. It is an adaptation. Some things are necessary to be changed, and so far i don't feel like anything is bad really. We have same spirit of the story following just slightly different events. Like alternative universe where a lot of things are different, but outcome is pretty similar because people involved are still themselves. It is difficult task, but I'm not worried yet. So far Live Action has proved they know what they're doing, even if they change things in significant way. Later down the line it might bite them in the ass (Imagine Oda suddenly deciding that Gaimon is now man marked by flames lmao), but i honestly feel like no one is honestly expecting this thing to last till the end of story, and everyone involved is just here to see how far they can go into adapting the behemoth of a tale that is One Piece before Netflix will inevitably can it for tax write off
It is possible that Mihawk was whittling down Krieg's Fleet for a week as he tracked down Krieg who was using his other ships in his fleet as shields from Mihawk. Ghin did act as a decoy in the manga/anime so it'd make sense he survived whilst buying Krieg a week but ultimately knows it's inevitable.
In the same way but much quicker netflix destroyed witcher. At the end of first season there is a scene when Geralt and Ciri meet each other and fall into hug and its supose to be emotional etc. But it is not bc they never meet before. At this stage Geralt literally didnt know who dafaq it is. And Ciri who spend last few episode running away from armed men jump on to random armed man that she never saw before. And all of that bc they remove whole Geralt-Ciri arc in brokilon.
Time is readily just an excuse to be cheap and lazy. The live action was good but far from great. They had no reason to not include Kreig. If Garp wasn’t hogging so much of the screen time we would’ve saw everything
@@ipacklunches That’s what I meant. No need to reduce his time. And if you’re not gonna do it right then don’t include him or Ging at all. Luffy could’ve even off screened him or something.
I was going to disagree but the garp point is a really big deal. I like the live action but the way garp is handled is veryyyy... confusing. We see him too early, we see him too much, and he is nothing like his manga counterpart
0:33 true, but that's different from existing for purpose. Also luffy doesn't say he can't beat arlong. He says maybe he can't beat him but he can destroy everything he's built.
I feel that if they cut down a little bit on the Coby and Garp side of the story in this episode especifically they could've fit all of this even to a minimal way
Ah, this is such a good breakdown of each of the building blocks of this arc. I didn't realize just how important every little scene is, there really is no fluff in Baratie. Ahhhh. Man Luffy lost so many important traits in the live action, it really hurts. I hope season 2 can somehow find the time to include all the most important character-building scenes, big and small. I think cutting Don Krieg was the right call for sure, but, I don't think I can agree with some of the other calls they made. Gin's initial scene is like, the #1 building block for Sanji's character, IMO.
Unfortunately even if you like the live action it will always be lesser because it simply can’t contain the same amount of information as the manga/anime.
Of course, but like the noodle ads, it's still more One Piece stuff and just for that I can love it. Also, the cast are incredible and fun, and it's cool to see another rendition of the story being told in fun, new ways. On top of that, it's doing its job in drawing in new fans to try out the source material and honestly, that's a big win in and of itself. I can love both for different reasons.
Yeah, basically what I've been saying is that I'm happy for those who enjoyed the live action series, but my thoughts on the series comes down to two things; A.) This is the best live action adaptation of any anime or manga B.) This is not One Piece, and I have no plans on watching season 2
Hindsight being a thing, I believe the better cut would've been to Syrup Village, and instead it felt like we got a pseudo-extension to the arc. I'm not saying it would've been easy, but perhaps the crew could've stumbled upon the Going Merry on Orange Island and sailed straight to Baratie, skipping Syrup Village entirely. Events play out as in the manga, to the point where Luffy has become a chore boy, and there maybe he meets Usopp who is also working as a chore boy after erroneously leaving Syrup Village and winding up on the Baratie before his boat sank, and he's now working to earn money to return, but Usopp takes a liking to Luffy and later sneaks aboard the Going Merry (to hide from the fight against Krieg, display his cowardice) which they don't realize until they're halfway to Conomi Islands. Give the time spent in Syrup Village--which ultimately doesn't have as strong of an impact on the greater story beyond the addition of Usopp and the Going Merry--to Baratie which does have a big impact.
Hmmm... get a feeling that Little Garden will either be skipped or very brief. I reckon, they might play catch up with characters supposed to appear earlier. So Hatchan will appear in Sabaody but either was never part of Arlong's crew or left it some time before.
Agreed with most of what u stated in the video concerning the OPLA short-comings mainly just due to the time and money needed to tell the real OP story. However just to highlight Sanji's decision to join Luffy in the LA some points i noticed weren't mentioned in the video: 1. Luffy encouraged Sanji to go after his dream 2. Sanji saw Luffy's dedication to being the chore boy where he cud have ups and left at anytime 3. Sanji saw Luffy's care and concern for Zoro wen he was severely injured 4. Sanji saw Luffy standing up for the Baratie (even tho Arlong did beat him) So while the manga had more substance to Sanji joining...the LA still did enough for me to make it believable that he did
The one thing I absolutely hated about the LA is the fact that luffy lost to arlong. It completely takes away the threat that crocodile posed as the first villain to defeat luffy
Krieg not being included was likely to avoid fakeout deaths, since Mihawk was supposed to have killed him. Same reason Merry didn't give the Strawhats the Going Merry ship. But there was absolutely NO excuse for Fullbody to have been cut. The only excuse I can see for why he was cut is because Jango was also cut. But then again, why was Jango cut???
Awesome points! I feel a lot of the soul of Baratie was lost, sadly. I think OPLA did an amazing job. And I'm sure a lot of the changes made perfect sense logistically or in terms of budget. But from a narrative standpoint, imo, some of the changes make future of the story difficult. OPLA may become a quite different story by season 4 or 5 I think, which isn't bad thing necessarily, could still be very interesting and well done. You make amazing points about how much was lost or changed, and how just reducing Full-body had a snowball effect. Some of the lines from Zeff to Sanji and about Luffy, were some of the strongest dialogue in the early story imo. I missed Hatchan and Momoo the most, but I'm sure they were cuts that made most sense for production, but sting narratively imo
Best they could? The restaurant Fullbody and Gin scenes could have been done traditionally w/ little changes to the story w/o taking up that much time. Maybe cut the fly in the soup, and just have Fullbody dump it on the floor or something.
Now that I think about it, this was either early haki (even before Zoro), or Luffy's fruit doing it's thing. Can't believe Oda was this willing to break logic then, and we bought it.
Hold up, Luff's care of Zoro in the live action was an excellent scene. It showed Luffy caring for his crew as a captain, and that care and attention Luffy shows to Zoro is a good enough reason for Sanji to trust Luffy and join his crew. Because Sanji knows Luffy is a captain that'll keep his interests an especially dreams in mind. I WILL SAY, the scene establishes trust and NOT LOYALTY. Really Sanji only joins Luffy because he sees his compassion and vibes with it. Sanji at this point probably wouldn't die for Luffy. Zeff basically considers Luffys debt as paid if he lets Sanji go with them. Essentially just give his son a ride away from home so Sanji can look for his dream... But honestly this is more implied than stated. Would've been more direct if Zeff told Luffy his debt would be paid if he took Sanji.
The live action was horrendous to me. I feel like they made it not expecting to go very far. Which is why there are so many problems and inconsistencies.
I mean to be fair to Kreig he basically just entered the Grand Line and ran immediately into someone who was up there with the Emperors of the Sea. Like I don’t think anyone was going to do well after that.
Will point out that Luffy did more to prove himself to Sanji than you mention. He goes out of his way to fight Arlong when he could have just sailed away because “you fed us.” He also sees how much Luffy cares about his crew when he is cleaning Zoros swords for him. Not saying it is as effective, but it’s something. Also, I’m still sad (though I understand) the lack of Chuchu. For me that was the most important very early character moment for Luffy. It informs his whole outlook about what treasure is.
They removed hachi who is a huge plot point in 2 future arcs
They can still introduce him in a diffrent way, like nami see him and help him(despite being a fishmen, a subtle charechter moment)

I am convinced live action is just a farce to make people watch the anime and anime is just a thing for people to read the manga
Tho not many talk about the huge percentage of that amount that immidiatly dropped the anime short after that.
When the live premiered, my wife and I were going to watch it but decided to watch the first couple episodes of the anime first. That was October or November. We finished the entire series last week. So I guess whether the live is good or bad is irrelevant as it served its purpose.

He, Ace, and Sabo also dined and dashed as kids with Luffy leaving an IOU (chapter 585)
Considering luffies an emperor now, that rock is probably worth a fortune.

Not having Sanji witness Zoro's fight with Mihawk was the one change to the series that I can't get over; it's important to Sanji's development, and it would have been so simple (and inexpensive) to have Sanji standing there watching.
Its Not Importent for Sanjis Development
I really hope they take their time for future arcs like alabasta. Many minor characters really add to the impact of the story
It's in the nature of any live action that you have to lose some minor characters if your cast is a vast as the one of One Piece.
@@f.carasind4188 Almost like you should never have tried.

They DID plan out an entire fight scene for Hatchi and they even designed his character but they couldn't put it in because it proved too expensive for an already very expensive show
@@beanzarueasy cut out some garp/coby storyline that isn’t really that important.
@@beanzaru hence it's a money/time problem which is the point
@@demoneyez97 I actually agree with that. Garp was my least favourite in the live-action. The fight between him and Luffy felt unnecessary as well. I feel like they should have spent more time on Arlong Park instead.
Alright so i'm gonna put this here and feel free to fight me about it: despite all the issues and cut stuff, the live action is still really good
I think the live action is leaning more towards the children going on a pirate adventure and then facing their first real roadblock with Arlong and Mihawk.
I didn't read what both of you wrote but I guess you are right👌
Luffy is way more mature in LA
He only starts to "grow up" after Ace's death
Luffy nearly dies againts arlong because he did something stupid. Really odd tyou compared him to superman.
The whole point of him being ridiculously confident when it comes to fighting his opponents is that all brought too our attention after marineford luffy fought harder than he ever had before breaking his limits multiple times and still lost
Although as you said if they do it right too have him build confidence and then have it completely crushed would be very impressive
Shame that Fullbody was reduced to a cameo and Jango never showed up. Hopefully Season 2 will rectify that issue.
I dont think we will get mr 5 and valentine
Or just completely skip them, which wouldn't be the worst. One Piece has too many characters for live action, and sometimes even for anime.
@VideoGamesMusicMe
Why are you acting like Bon Clay is already cut? I highly doubt he will as he is too important. It’s more likely Hina will be cut just like Fullbody and Jango and Bon Clay’s sacrifice and capture will just go to Smoker instead. Cause it doesn’t really matter who captures Bon Clay, it just has to happen by someone.
I wonder if Ian McShane will appear in One Piece live action show's Season 2 by cameoing in his costume of Blackbeard from Pirates of the Caribbean among the crowd of people and pirates.
I mean he did narrate an ep so maybe.
He did? What episode is it?@@mmem4264

this is a fascinating study on just how important even minor characters are to One Piece as a story
The only thing you got incorrect in this video was that Johnny and Yosaku were actually introduced before Fullbody in the Baratie arc.
100%.. they could’ve launched some kind of spinoff show showcasing their time with garp or not at all
I assume they cut out the don kreig thing because they thought sanji would have another character arc on whole cake to look into his past and so, if we absolutely have to remove a core arc, we'll remove the don kreig one
He was interested in him a bit before that.
They did bad for Sanji, Usopp and Zoro' recruitment. How they could even decide to show Shanks' quotes not to fight and Luffy's admiration of Zoro beating down all marines in same episode?
Zoro was defending the little girl in the bar scene and Helmeppo was the one who attacked Zoro first. That's how.
@@Ruffeep Helmeppo didn't attack. He stomped the wasted food, was angry (it's Smoker's moment who can calmly forgive), and said to the kid to go. Neither other marines deserved to be beaten up. Every character except Kuro. Even Morgan came back for a cover story.
I don't think Krieg or Gin were ever in a cover story were they?
@@joegamergamingwell well well
They traded sanji's development for the having coby and helmeppo's journey with the marines.
Very true. The marine story is unnecessary. Wish they would’ve cut that out and followed the manga more closely
But seriously was it so hard to maybe quickly do something like full body saying there’s a bug in his soup or at least the thing about the wine
Not to mention the long term repercussions from not having Hachi lol
Just say that Hatchi had left the crew. Or replace Hatchi with another Arlong pirate. This is not an actual problem if the solutions are this easy.
Chore boy almost rhinest with joy boy
I need a 3 episode long backstory for that fly fullbody put in the soup. Just imagine how strong he got during the timeskip
With the insane success of the first season. Hopefully the budget will be higher so cuts like these will be reduce
Cope. It’s objectively an inferior product. You can’t make excuses for people realizing this and bringing it to light
@@roberto7288the anime is the inferior product compared to the manga but people still like that shit for some reason
Hope they didn’t remove Toto in SS2.

Now imagine them adding another Coby/Helmeppo story line

It could be that Garp actually called Mihawk a week before the Straw Hats reached the Baratie, but they placed the scene out of chronological order for a better flow of the plot.
loved the blood splash at 10:08 hahaha
Sanji not being a simp felt like the biggest misstep
One thing season 2 could improve is having 10 episodes like originally planned for season 1 instead of 8
In the same way but much quicker netflix destroyed witcher.
I always thought of that episode as a bus stop lol
Time is readily just an excuse to be cheap and lazy. The live action was good but far from great. They had no reason to not include Kreig. If Garp wasn’t hogging so much of the screen time we would’ve saw everything
Krief was in it, introduction changed and screen time heavily reduced.
@@ipacklunches That’s what I meant. No need to reduce his time. And if you’re not gonna do it right then don’t include him or Ging at all. Luffy could’ve even off screened him or something.
I mean they did have to cut a lot as the season shortened to 8 eps instead of 10
I was going to disagree but the garp point is a really big deal.
'Seems significantly watered down'
That's the entire LA One Piece, unfortunately.
Man this three week break sucks huh love that ya got stuff in the meantime though
Yeah they did wonders but adapting a work of such breadth was always going to be quite a task.
With enough money anything is possible.
I heard that "money" from Caleb Hammer.
Yeah, basically what I've been saying is that I'm happy for those who enjoyed the live action series, but my thoughts on the series comes down to two things;
A.) This is the best live action adaptation of any anime or manga
B.) This is not One Piece, and I have no plans on watching season 2
However just to highlight Sanji's decision to join Luffy in the LA some points i noticed weren't mentioned in the video:
1. Luffy encouraged Sanji to go after his dream
2. Sanji saw Luffy's dedication to being the chore boy where he cud have ups and left at anytime
3. Sanji saw Luffy's care and concern for Zoro wen he was severely injured
4. Sanji saw Luffy standing up for the Baratie (even tho Arlong did beat him)
So while the manga had more substance to Sanji joining...the LA still did enough for me to make it believable that he did
The one thing I absolutely hated about the LA is the fact that luffy lost to arlong. It completely takes away the threat that crocodile posed as the first villain to defeat luffy
I wasn't expecting a video but i ain't complaining
We got GrandLineReview saying „Schadenfreude“ before gta 6
It felt more like: "The reason Sanji left with the SH's is because Sanji was supposed to leave with the SH's."
they removed a lot.. right from the getgo, they completely changed Alvida
They did my boy so dirty
Krieg not being included was likely to avoid fakeout deaths, since Mihawk was supposed to have killed him. Same reason Merry didn't give the Strawhats the Going Merry ship.
But there was absolutely NO excuse for Fullbody to have been cut. The only excuse I can see for why he was cut is because Jango was also cut. But then again, why was Jango cut???
Another thing I really missed was the cold/boring farewell between Sanji and the Baratie.
Maybe there was actually a time skip somewhere in episode 6 of the live action, and Luffy had washed dishes for an year on the Baratie.
Every time you break down the live action, it just reassures me that I made the right choice not to watch it. It would just piss me off.
Now that I think about it, this was either early haki (even before Zoro), or Luffy's fruit doing it's thing. Can't believe Oda was this willing to break logic then, and we bought it.
We do know how Luffy gets out of the debt to Baratie, he fights Arlong.
Live Crocus "I don't have the time or money to answer you, go that way."
Thank you for all the videos getting me thru the break, much love ❤
Maybe they would have had more time if they didn't fabricate a Garp subplot.
Seriously did we need to flesh out a characters that doesn’t become relevant for hundreds of chapters in place of the core 5 characters?
Bro really used Garling's silhouette for crescent
The live action was horrendous to me. I feel like they made it not expecting to go very far. Which is why there are so many problems and inconsistencies.
Love to see your videos
The break ends this week 🎉
Don krieg was a skill check, if luffy can defeat him he's ready for the grand line
Honeslty the live action just feels like test ground for people to get into the anime/manga than something that can stand for itself
I wonder if Don Krieg will be at the beginning of season 2 to open it up with a bang
So... No one remembers that Hachi actually appeared in the live-action, as a cameo...
