- Fluval 07 Canister Filters: ARE THEY ANY GOOD? Durability & Reliability Review | 107 207 307 407
In this video I take apart a Fluval 207 external canister filter and have a look to see how it is performing after 6 months of operation. I have found the Fluval 207 filter to be a really reliable filter, even on an aquarium which is too big for it's rating, it is doing a great job of keeping my aquarium clean.
The Fluval 207 is less expensive than other external filters by other brand such as Oase and Eheim, it is designed for the more budget conscious and beginner aquarium hobbyists.
In general the Fluval 07 external filter range is an excellent and reliable aquarium filter and is very easy to maintain and operate.

part of me died when you started cutting the plastic with the knife lol
Haha it's just cosmetic 😁
I was pretty confused as to what information we were supposed to gain from watching him cut plastic. Strange.
I was actually shouting at my phone! 😂
Same 🤢
Yeah I also died inside. Weird guy
Now I know which canister filter I'll want with me if I ever get in a knife fight. 🤦♂️
Why are you like.. Cutting the damn thing
I picked up a 407 in December and so far I’m happy with it. It’s pretty quiet and keeps the water clear. It’s much better than my old sunsun!😊
Thank you! Watching your 'cleaning the fluval' video (and this one) convinced me to just take the plunge and spend a little more to get a quality filter. You made the choice easy, and I thank you.
No worries
I had Fluval since 2014 or something. Have 5 of them and never had to replace a single part on it so are they good, absolutely yes.
Thanks! I just bought one and this made me feel happy I did
Great series of videos on the 07 series. Keep up 5he good work
I have never been so worried about someone else's thumb as I was when you were testing the strength of the primer with the knife 😬
Thanks I have had my tetanus jab 😅
@@EverydayAquarist And now I've watched the balancing on it surrounded by glass tanks, I didn't realise this video would test my nerves 🤣
Thanks for the vid!! I saved a lot of money going with the 07 opposed to the x4
Ty for the recoding!!! Happy fish keeping!!!😊😊😊
Very good review in every detail my friend. Thanks a lot for your descriptions👍
Thanks for the video great video man very informative!
Thanks, I've just learnt that some external filters have heaters, I didn't know this lol. Going to look into this as it'll save having a heater stuck to the back of my tank.
Love my Oase filters. =D
Great review. Thank you.
I really like your tank in the back. Next to the filter. The one with the clowns and sea grass / seaweed. Really Kool, looks good.
Thanks
Absolutely love this filter… I have it in my 150G for years
Now that's what I call a torture test, great vid!
Brilliant video mate I loved it honest opinion
I have been seriously considering getting a 407 for my 55 gal goldfish tank. Thanks for the video. And for the love of God... put the knife away!
You're welcome
I’ll be switching from a Fluval FX6 to two 407’s on an 120 gallon this weekend. I hope I’m not making a mistake. And I agree, TAKE THAT KNIFE AWAY!
thanku for this vido
I really love fluval canister filter but some people think fluval's sponge system doest really work for catch dirt
what do you think ?
With my 307 I've never had to use the primer since initial set up, I just reconnect everything, open the valve lever and it fills the filter, then when that's done I just turn it back on and it's away!
It's great isn't it!
Thank you ☺️
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for your setting up and maintenance videos, better than the instruction booklet lol. I am a pathetic girly with arthritis and loose joints including my fingers (dislocate disturbingly easily) this Fluval is the best, easiest to use filter I've ever had. Amazed you have a 207 on a five foot tank, I got a 407 for my four foot tank full of corydoras. Overkill?
Thanks for watching. Oh no my filter is underpowered for a regular 5 ft. However I only use it for mechanical filtration. All the bacteria and good stuff is in the tank itself.
Ah OK, makes sense.
Really great video I do like fluval filters no fuss 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Nice review. I like the way you keep saying how nice is the product is, at the same time use the knife to damage it. Cool🤭😆
How is the noise level on that fluvial? Thinking of trying it but i haven't had good luck with external filters when it comes to noise
V quiet
I have this filter. I clean mine every two weeks and replace the the fine wool stuff every time. I could be wrong on this but i believe Eheim products are now made in China and not Germany.
It's Philippians, not Chy-na.
I wasn’t sure about this filter, but knowing I can stand on it has convinced me 🤭
You can cut it too. Simply amazing.
Thanks
Had my 307 for 17month now, All was going great until I recently had to replace the original rubber seal , been a nightmare since despite replacing the rubber seal 3 times with genuine fluval ones...it leaks and don't get me started on the amount of trouble it takes to prime due to it drawing in air....
Ive never had a problem even when cleaning the input and output tubes. I fill the cannister with water after cleaning, connect and I don't even use the plunger, and it's siphoning. Good luck I have multiples of these for over 10 years no problems.
So I JUST set up my 307 and every few minutes I hear the filter make a weird noise and soon after I see air escape through the out take. I went on RUclips to see if there's any info about this. Have you experienced this problem?
Happens in New filters it will stop after a few days
Awesome filters
They are
Would you advise this for a 60x40x40 tank
Never seen someone take a knife out and start cutting the product on a review. Cheers.
5.30, how about impellor fit between the shaft and bearing, critical aspect of reliability I'm pretty sure due to exponential oscillations if worn?
Definitely important but something I can't really measure accurately
was it wobbly ;)
Little bit 👍
You mention that the Oase and Eheim are German companies. You don't seem to realize that Fluval is a German company also. The Fluval 407 is actually rated higher than the Oase canister filters...even from buyers on Amazon. Of course though, Oase is a relative newcomer to the home aquarium market. They were mainly known for constructing fountains...large, commercial fountains, such as what you might see in front of a large hotel. They also have a satellite wing that installs a few residential fountains each year. It was only relatively recently that Oase decided to enter the aquarium market. With no knowledge of or experience with aquarium products, they had to purchase an Italian company that previously made aquarium products under a different brand name...and that's where Oase canister filters are made.
I might try an Oase a few years from now, but not right now...with about 10% of buyers giving Oase canister filters a one star rating...I'll stay with Fluval filters for the foreseeable future.

Hello everyone! In this video I take a look at my Fluval 207 canister filter in more detail with regards to its' durability and performance over the 6 months I have had it running.

Just so you know, you should do maintenance once a month at a minimum depending on load. Your canister has clearly been overwhelmed with waste, meaning you are redistributing less healthy water and likely to spike nitrates. The ultimate goal is to filter the water of course, but it must stay clean prior to hitting your bio media, otherwise your bio media will filter more and convert less. The water quality will be substantially healthier for all forms of life in the tank if you maintenance it more regularly than 90 days.
Good video
What’s considered the best external filter for a 100litre tank for under £150?
Fluval filters are great
Going to be picking this up for my 29 gallon comunity tank! I have a fluval C3 which is doing a good job but really want a canister. Have had a eheim back in the day but have read eheim really sucks in quality now. The fluval C3 is just a pain in the ass do service it. I do not use carbon so will fill that chamber up with Seachem Matrix. Why are you cutting your filter??? Anyways good break down of the Fluval 07 series.
Not sure which is more nerve wracking, the knife or you standing on a unsteady canister around a bunch of aquariums.
First thanks again starting doing research on marine aquaria
Thanks for watching
Why are you cutting the filter?
Would you advise this for a 60 l tank?
107
Is 307 good for 180l 50 us gallon tank please
I just got a 75 gallon tank and was wondering if the 407 would do the job?
Did you go with the 407 on the 75? If so, how's it working for you? I'm in the same position at this time. Thanks!
@@stephenedwards9341 I have two 75 gallon tanks, on one I have a fx4 and on the other I put two 407's i actually prefer the 407 because its easier to clean and maintain, and I rotate cleaning them. The fx is a good filter also just big and bulky, and I have a bad back so I'd rather use the 407.
I want Thais ah for ou marine aquário irá Gold os bad?
Surprised you didn't give it the sledgehammer test?!!
Maybe next time
💀💀💀
Dont do drugs children.
Good to know the filter can survive a rust knife. Much more then that thumb would. 😂
Why are you cutting and standing on the canister?
For fun
You don't clean your filter for 3- 6 months? Wow its like a sewer cess pool in that canister for me after a month is that because its salt water vs fresh water, sludge doesn't form as fast or can't?...
Might be due to being salt water, they are never really that dirty
Spend the extra cash and buy the Oase. No comparison between the fluval and a biomaster. Oase is the best 200 quid I ever spent.
Hi mate Scott from Scotland here great to see you in the video this time. It’s marine I have but been following your videos for about 2 year now. Keep it up. 👍🏴👍
Hi Scott from Scotland! Thanks so much for watching my videos and supporting my channel! Is there anything you would like me to make a video on?
Hi yes do you have a marine tank? I also want a koi pond once I get myself sorted out. Failing that I also like discus fish.
Yes I have 6 Marine tanks. No corals though just seaweeds 😁
You didn’t test the impeller with the knife
Maybe next time
Your carving up the filter like a xmas turkey.
"Careful, he's got a knife"...."That's not a knife..this is a knife" with apologise to Crocodile Dundee. Why the heck would you use a knife on a filter???
More media!
How’s quite is it ?
Very
I can second that I’m running a 207 on a fluval Roma 125 tank and you can’t hear the filter at all.
👍👍👍🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹...
like all fluvals, let it dry out for 3 months, then plug back in and boom leaking from the handles. and imo like you said they don't collect has much gunk has other ones. only good side to fluvals is the pump seems to be better than most for filter size. imo way better filters around now for less price, with bigger media baskets etc.
man you love to cut your stuff don't you 🤣
Love to
The Fluval 07 series are not a basic filter. Eheim is from Germany made but now they are made in China which makes the finishing and build quality pretty worse. I have a 50.02 Gal tank and I have ordered a 307.
Why the hell are you cutting off parts of your filter?? We know it's made of plastic and rubber, put that knife away, unless you're heading to Whitechapel.
hello
Hello Tom
Everyday Aquarist your a legend keep up the good work mate 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
U put 207 on a 5ft tank?? I put the 307 on a 20 gal
la limpieza brilla por su ausencia, sin comentarios la verdad, y encima en ves de cuidar la cosas las rompen
Someone has watched a lot of AvE lol
Cutting the filter with a knife...there goes the warranty...
Why are you cutting on it
Whats with Brits and knives? What’s the point of cutting everything with the knife? I think everyone can understand plastic densities.
I thought a visual display would help
Lol. Or set a small explosive in it and test its durability. Lol
Could say the same with Americans and guns!!!!
Where abouts in the UK are you? I need a guru to mentor me 😆
Mate I don’t think you should be playing with knifes hey!
Why would you cut it 🤣
You didn't have to butcher the filter up with the knife to show its durability 😂😂😂😂
Why the fk is he cutting it .just words would doo
Wtf! Why are you cutting and stabbing the filter! How is that showing anyone how durable it is? I must have missed the stabbing and cutting part of the instructions!!
I own it so I can stab and cut it as much as I want
Step away from the knife.
What the f**k with the knife???????
It's hard plastic, it's soft plastic. Wtf why did u feel the need to slice it with a knife.?
Why not it's my filter
@@EverydayAquarist exactly it’s urs you can do what you want to it…. Some people are just idiots man
@@LordBonesaw Thanks!
Why the hell you have too cut everything with a knife, i would go get some counselling.
What's wrong with knives
The knife part is so annoying
Ur filters dirty all the way throw if u set it up right u shouldn't get any dirt on the bio media
Bruh.. YOU NEED TO CLEAN YOUR FILTER MORE REGULARLY. 3 MONTHS... WTF
