The most depressive part in "Silmarillion" was the fail of Melkor in the War of Wrath , his sending into Timeless Void and when Angband was destroyed. THIS is the most depressive and sorrowful!
pit3bull360 just finished Sir Christopher’s narration a few minutes ago. It was truly amazing. I thought of it as Saruman telling me an old tale of middle earth. Highly recommend it
Correction: It was Hurin, not Turin, who said ""Marrer of Middle-Earth, would that I might see you face to face, and mar you as my Lord Fingolfin did!"
They need to make a big budget movie trilogy of Children of Hurin. More along the lines of Lord of the Rings than the Hobbit, that is more substance than style.
I completely agree, or at least a series in Amazon Prime Video once they're done with the new LOTR series. The story of Húrin and his children must be taken to the screens! I'm totally convinced that I would be a great success...
I don't think the epic LOTR treatment would work for this. LOTR is a very uplifting story about heroism, friendship, and good triumphing over evil. Children Of Hurin is all about loss, pain and tragedy. If they do make a film version it should be smaller and more intimate, more focus on characters instead of huge battles and sweeping camera shots.
still say this is probably the most heartbreaking story ever... even the future vengeance, while just, brings a tear to one's eye when placing oneself in Turin's shoes... at least in my case...
There's only one influence I can think of that could have inspired the death of Turin and that is the fate of the hero Ajax during the Trojan War, who sank into depression and killed himself by falling upon his own sword. It has also given rise to an expression describing how one can bring about their own downfall through their actions or from depression.
You forgot to tell about how Hurin did more harm to King Thingol of Doriath, after he sent to him the Nauglamir, found in the ruins of Nargothrond, where he find Mim and after killing him. This jewel became the doom of the kingdom after the death of Hurin, when King Thingol decided to set the Silmarill recovered by Beren and Luthien there, and asked the Dwarves for doing it, and they recognizing the garment, were bold and greedy leading into a fatal encounter with Thingol that caused the ruin of Doriath, so Hurin in his despair after the death of his children did more harm on time on Gondolin and Doriath.
There's also a tale in the History of Middle Earth "The Wanderings of Hurin", where Hurin, after his release from Angband brings ruin upon the remnants of the Haladin as well.
Húrin was cursed my Morgoth and will bring doom to anywhere he went. Since a Silmaril was in Doriath, the curse of Morgoth, oath of Fëanor and Doom of Mandos all contributed to it’s ruin.
If I remember correctly this is Hurin, not Turin, who said: "Marrer of Middle-Earth would that I might see you face to face, and mar you asmy Lord Fingolfin did!"
I am currently working on a series about the First Age, with much of the info coming from the Silmarillion, Part 2 of that series will be released today! But the sound effects were just an experiment for this video, and not to many people noticed or cared, so I don't think I'll be using sound effects much in the future. But I'm glad you liked them :)
This is such an unfortunate event of Men that have been hit hard by Morgoth more than so painfully than the Elves becoming twisted and corrupted turning into an Orcs. I truly admired Turin for he has a humanity inside of him feeling pain, suffering, rage, despair then to happiness, noble and proud. In all he has the most humanity part of Middle Earth as he did not only meets with tragic event but also deep ingrained of rising from the cause and ending it all. Unlike Elves, Men easily change their desire to absolute view of their pleasure to something like evil intention. The Elves although has their own free will their nature and themselves is bound is Arda and for that is not so easily corrupted and fall to temptation of evil directly to the darkness. With the exception of those Elves captured by Morgoth that become Orcs as at that time the Elves were still fledgling, being not yet powerful enough to resist the dark side. Men will always be the most delicate of all race but have a stronger will to overcome many things and forsaw changes and hope upon them.
the saddest story I have ever encountered..... when a God is against you in an evil way, this is what happens in the end... was there anything Hurin cud have done? In fact he stood his ground... and never broke his oath to turgon.... may ulmo receive you proudly when you threw yourself :-(
Shouldn’t the Halls of Mandos only hold the spirits of the Elven dead? I thought the spirits of deceased men will be taken by Eru Ilúvatar and will go somewhere only Eru knows
Everyone is taken to the Halls of Mandos when they die so they can be judged. But Elves get to stay and live there, while Men and Dwarves are only there temporarily before being taken from the world by Eru.
Mim had every right to kill the Turin the crybaby. He had been merciful to him by hiding his wretched party for a while, and Mim actually revealed his location because he was tortured and his other son was killed.Hurin deserved everything he had lived because he went on and killed the innocent and discriminated(even by his own folk as petty dwarves were disliked by other dwarves for some reason.Elves hunted them as animals for years before realising they were dwarves, they have lived through great sufferings and tragic events, which led them to hate every race in middle earth, men elves and dwarves for their intolerance and cruelty towards their people.)Mim.
