    Video Description:
    HELIO 500 Watt PTC Smart Heater w/ Controller - [1 x 500W] Single Element
    Innovative Marine is proud to introduce HELIO, a new line of heaters utilizing ultra-safe PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) technology.
    Unlike traditional electric immersion heaters which use resistance wires that continuously increase in temperature until the element ceases, PTC technology utilizes solid state ceramic chips that are programmed to reach only a certain predetermined set temperature. The result is even heating, longer operation life, and increased safety.
    When the temperature of the ceramic chip heating element increases, the sensor on the chip itself reads the increase and will increase its electrical resistance resulting in decreased heat output. This simply means that as the heating element gets hotter, it will become relatively more difficult to become hotter. Safety is inherently built in and not added on.
    The mastermind behind the HELIO Heating System is the PTC smart controller, which bridges the gap between hobby grade and commercial heating systems. The smart controller’s processor communicates with the PTC heating elements to keep your temperature stable, alerting you immediately if any fluctuations in temperature have been detected.
    The PTC smart controller has been fitted with a titanium remote temperature sensor and dual heating element power lines. Since each heating element has its own built in temperature regulation system, there’s safety in redundancy from the controller’s temperature sensor. If dual heating elements are employed, you can add yet another level of safety to the system.
    After years in development, the HELIO heating system possesses powerful features that exceed current reef aquarium heater expectations and achieve three main objectives: Increased safety, improved reliability, and to provide a new reef aquarium heating technology superior to the long held standard.
    HELIO PTC Titanium Heating System.
    Safe. Stable. Smart.
    Features:
    Suitable for heating a 85-125 gallon aquarium up to 10 degrees above ambient temperature
    Designed to operate safely and efficiently in a harsh marine reef aquarium ecosystem
    PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) technology
    Solid state ceramic chip
    Fast warm up
    Even heating with no hot spots
    Long life
    Low surface temperature
    Self-regulation of heating
    Smart Controller keeps temperature stable and alerts you to any fluctuations
    Increased safety with redundancy-- both the controller and heating element include temperature sensors
    Automatic shut off when heating element is out of water
    Commercial grade titanium heating sheaths and screws to prevent corrosion
    Rare earth magnetic heating element holder allows for optimal water flow
    Quick disconnects on the controller’s temperature sensors and heating elements make for easy maintenance and upgradeability

    I have 2 tanks and one has a heater connected to an inkbird controller. I was going to buy a 2nd inkbird for my other tank but it's a 10G and my Eheim heater is quite long. I'll go with the mini version of the Helio because the heater probe is really small. It's slightly more expensive but for my use, it'll be better. Thanks for the video.

    I have a Hygger 800w PTC heater with controller. It is absolutely amazing. This one heater heats my 240g tank plus a 40g sump.

      @@MyFirstFishTank absolutely...and these heaters are a lot more safer than the traditional glass tube heaters. They instantly turn off as soon as they are exposed to air. I also noticed that the controller's factory calibration was identical to my Inkbird controllers. I'll never go back to traditional heaters again.

    Do you put the sensor in the filtration back of Aio or in tank opposite of heat element

    Got this product new ... for some reason the heating element had scratches all over it and looked like a minuscule fracture...plugged it up put it in my tank and 4 hours later my wife woke me up and said my tank was "off" ...apperently this thing tripped and blew my outlets out and now im having to run extension cords from other rooms to keep my tank going...be cautious apperently repackaging products as new when they are used

    You can get a cheap heater and an inkbird or similar controller and it is much cheaper. If the heater fails, the controller alarm will come on and you can use it to cool too.

      Yeah, I''ve used Eheim jager's with bayite temperature controllers and inkbirds for years with great success! This is a cool item from IM, but I'm just not convinced the added benefit is worth the price .

    Efficiency of this type of heater compared to normal (running cost)? Possible length comparison as that can make a major difference in where they could be placed.

    • @MyFirstFishTank
      @MyFirstFishTank  3 года назад

      Yeah, for sure! This item just seems really expensive to me? I feel like you could get a regular titanium heater and plug it into a Bayite or Inkbird controller for pretty much the same level of safety? I mean, don't get me wrong, it's quite nice, but spendy!

    The chips can fail also. The titanium tube can have a defect and leak or erode over time.

    • @MyFirstFishTank

      Oh I'd never heard that the titanium can have a defect. Yikes!

    I don't understand what sets this apart from something like the brs titanium heater that comes with the controller. Except for it's price point which is crazy for a heater

    • @MyFirstFishTank
      @MyFirstFishTank  3 года назад

      Ummm.., I am also not sure! I'm thinking it has something to do with the internal ceramic chip. My understanding is most titanium heaters will just keep heating and heating, but that these IM heaters are preprogrammed to shut off, so if there ever was a problem, the heater itself would not be able to overheat, unlike other Titanium heaters. That's my understanding at least? Is that worth the price difference? I'll leave that up to my viewers to decide! :-)

      @@MyFirstFishTank isn't that the point of the controller?

    • @MyFirstFishTank
      @MyFirstFishTank  3 года назад

      Yes, yes, yes for sure! I figure it's an additional redundancy in case something were to be wrong with the controller or temperature probe. That way the heaters themselves would cut out on their own and not keep heating the water up. Not sure, but that's what I'm thinking!

    I swear by my finnex titaniums with controllers. Once you go titanium you will never go back. Separate controllers is a must though. One for use, set second lower for redundant backup.

    It’s not doing anything my D&D set up isn’t already doing, apart from costing 3x more 😬

    • @MyFirstFishTank
      @MyFirstFishTank  3 года назад +1

      haha, this made me chuckle! You know I've used Eheim Jager heaters and Finnex Titanium heaters paired with either Inkbird or Bayite controllers for years and they've worked great. I guess the only thing unique with this one is that the titanium heaters themselves will shut off if left on, so added redundancy. But it's a lot more money for the redundancy for sure!

      @@MyFirstFishTank to be fair to them, it looks robust and I do like the titanium sensor and extra redundancy. I am sure there will be a market for it, It’s just not me!
