My experience in the U-69 is that you will move forward, spot a few enemies, and every single depth charge in the game will be launched at your precise position. Your team will do nothing, and your torpedoes aren't a threat as people will DCP off your pings immediately.
Mine was similar, except I usually ping them first, watch them waste DCP to shake the ping and then fire torpedos and ping them again when they are close.
I just started playing the u69, but my advice is to not ping. It has its uses, but relying on it is a death sentence. Your stealth let's you get close enough you can basically ensure dumb torps land with little effort. Pinging exposes you, adds very little homing and damage (if you land it and it isn't DCP'd). You CAN use it to bait cool downs on enemies and scare them out of position, but you gotta be smart about it. You still need to rely on team support to deal with ASW.

I disagree with the idea that you should ping as little as possible as a sub. Pinging ships is a great way to provoke some sort of response that you or your team can capitalize on. It pressures your opponent. Players will maneuver, hide, DCP, or even overextend and die trying to get to you. If they're worried about you, they're just a little less focused on killing your team. Just make sure you understand the consequences before you ping.
This is true and I ping more while Div'd up. The idea is to increase your survivability against ships with aerial DC planes, the more players use them the more accurate they will get, this is more of a long term over the course of hundreds of battles tip 🙂

I sometimes ping a random enemy ship knowing, that I will go right past them (they cant see me or find my location) but usually these enemies take a risk too much...
for someone who played the two lines, I see the German sub as the easy submarine to play due to long battery, the range and the torps reload and bonus the special camo of the T8 german sub is cooler my absolute highscore with a submarine is 4873 exp with U-2501 (4 kills 133161 damage) and 4375 exp with I-56 (5 kills 103 023 damage) (sorry for english i'm a french player ^^)
As a American, your english is not bad. the only obvious mistake was you said "highscore with a submarine" then mentioned two scores. You implied singular, and then went plural. You should have said "with submarines" because you were talking about more then one.
I just started my first sub run literally about 5 min before finding this video, and I just hot on a strategy of firing ALL 4 forward tubes at once, then after 5 seconds hitting the sonar ping...following it to make sure it took, then a little before the torps got too close to the ship, hit it with another ping. Haven't missed yet. First game in a sub ever....3 kills and ended up #2 behind a Minekaze who got 4.
These sub video’s are good for someone who has decided to join the dark side but I would take this advice with a grain of salt. There are many ways to play the underwater dragons. Like opting to engage from the center of the map is not always your best tactic. I think being in open water is a better tactic for my play style.
I know this is an old comment and I'm not sure you're still playing WoWS, but what would you have to say regarding depth? Should I stay on the surface/periscope like he said, or should I stick to my current underwater playstyle? The latter works well for me now, but should I invest in learning the former?
I recently got the U-2501, after doing decently but not great with the German sub line. I ground the line and didn't use Free XP. But somehow I cannot win with the U-2501. My win ratio is the worst of all my ships. After 20 games its about 10%. After a few zero damage games I have managed to raise my average damage and hit count, but still lose even when I have a decent game. Typically I fire the acoustic torps without using the sonar, since I need to keep my location hidden until the end game to stay alive. I've managed to get some good damage games that way (between 50,000-100,000). But mostly its hard to hit that way, even though the torps are fast. When I use the ping, no matter the angle or evasive maneuvers, I usually get killed. Firing out of AWS range is not feasible since at T10 most BB and some Cruisers have a 10km range on ASW or more. At 11-14km homing does not work for me in most cases, due to clearing of the ping with the "R" key, the difficulty in hitting the ping at 10km+, and the time involved for the torps to make the run. Of course, the more you have to ping the greater the chance you get killed. It seems to me there is something basic I don't understand about the ship or its been nerfed to hell. Any suggestions?
So I've been playing with U69 and not U2501 and even though I'm late I'm just gonna talk about this comment just in case someone finds it useful. When you were playing the sub it was easier to ping without giving away your position because the indicator only spawned once. Now the indicator spawns like 8 or so times showing the direction that you're moving. I don't know if this makes it easier or harder to dodge because I simply don't stay put so there is no way they're going to get a good shot on me. Firstly, the indicator moves at full speed, regardless of the speed of your ship. This means if you're going at the slowest speed, the enemy is going to aim further ahead of where you'll be. Secondly, just maneuver. Don't ping and continue to go straight. When it comes to landing shots, you just gotta get a feeling for it. Don't launch all torps at the same time first of all. Stagger their launch by 3-4 seconds, so that when the enemy dodges the first one, they'll be slowed down and the subsequent torpedoes have an easier time hitting. Spread the launch also so every torpedo is coming from different angles, increasing your chances of hitting. Torpedo lock drops earliest for battleships to give them a better chance of dodging, by staggering torp launch you're making sure they can't dodge all your shots. When they dodge the first torp, their ship will be slowed down significantly and the rest of your torps will still be locked on
Also forgot to mention, you shouldn't ping too early. Try to do it late as possible. I try to ping at halfway through, and the only times I missed is if I do too wild of a spread without aiming properly, and when they clear the first ping immediately so the torps have no time to properly maneuver and by the time I can ping they're already way past the ship :( but you can get better at the timing with practice
Me moving diagonally watching those airplanes launching depth charges behind me as my torpedoes approach your bb then the dd starts rushing me and gets blown up by a cruiser then the ennemy sub shows up and I promptly dissasemble it
I am playing tier VI (to learn) but I can't fire my torps as off target as you? They won't fire if the path of the ship is not within the arc for the torpedo aim (if that makes sense).
It's funny how many times you can bully a ship out from behind an island with just pings. Times have changed for the submarines. Maybe you'll do a follow up for the nerfed subs of today.
I have to be honest. When I get pinged multiple times, I kinda go nuts looking for the sub to kill. I've died so many times by the other team as I can get so hyper focused on killing that annoying sub. lol.. I really need to play my 69 more often.
none of that works for me, they dodge them every time, then i get nailed by planes with depth chargers you got lucky on that match there just no real point to them anymore unless you playing against a bad team they just get nuked in minutes
For me I like the tier 10 American best and the German tier 8 and 6 subs best the tier 10 American has both front and rear torps so you can do circles to get them off and makes you harder to hit with depth charges

The U-69 back torpedo is soo trolly. I've gotten caught out a few times and ended up chased by cruisers. I just run away and lob the occasional torp at them and they can't do anything but disengage most of the time
I get anywhere near a BB and I just get rocked by all of their anti sub crap. Can't ever ping anything within range without just getting absolutely abliterated by everything on the map
You are assuming WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY to much. You talk about various terms without defining what those terms actually mean (torps, ping, dummy torps and more) and which keys control those. How do you control depth to stay on the surface, at periscope depth, or go deep?

Why is your exp so high? I thought that the submarine exp boost only applies to the premiums?

Any real point to playing US subs over German ones? I'm pretty close to the US ones but I wonder if its better to just grind out the Germans.
