Looks awesome. I was diagnosed with cancer 3 yrs ago and after chemo, radiation & 3 major cancer surgeries at M.D. Anderson in Houston Tx, I had to find a new hobby so I wouldn't loose my mind & I've learned I LOVE TO COOK!!! I'm getting better with every recipe. I will be making this soon...especially on a cold rainy day and I'm subscribing to your channel. Thanks for the recipes. Much love from Mobile Alabama I was wondering what city & state are you from...I definitely hear a southern accent.
Randy, I too am a cancer survivor! I am a 7 year survivor of stage 3c cancer. I have had 8 surgeries at the cancer site (7 were reconstruction) and 3 more after for residual effects of chemo. I know exactly where you are coming from needing a hobby. I was sitting here in May thinking "get off this recliner" and started this cooking show because I have always wanted to teach people how to cook. I grew up in Collard Valley in Cedartown, Polk County, Georgia! So glad to have you on my channel! What an encouragement!
Oh boy, that looks delicious! My grandmother used to use applesauce instead of icing on the outside of the cake. It was good but I'll bet this is even better.☺
Hi yall. Just found your channel and boy your recipes take me back and remind me of home! I decide to to start from your 1st vids. Thank you for sharing your time and your kitchen. 🥰
I'm gonna go find your caramel icing video and put that on this cake. Sounds like it would taste a bit like my grandma's jam cake...made with blackberry jam. My mama and grandma were both gone by the time i was 16, so have no idea where recipes went, but I tried to make that once cause I found a recipe for it in an old cookbook laying in a Goodwill store. Think if I coulda baked a little better, it woulda been close😂 Ty!
Beautiful cake! I really like that it calls for applesauce, instead of apples, seems more convenient using the sauce. Btw, what's the name of the instrumental playing in the middle of your video?
@@CollardValleyCooks I’m going to make an apple cake and it calls for just regular sugar and I thought some brown sugar would be good in it. Make it more moist too!
Close to how my mom made her applesauce cake. Only she always used Gerbers baby applesuace and would add raisins, dates and chopped pecans and then top it off with brown sugar icing.
Cake look delicious I love your programs and you have a great personality would love to be in your kitchen tasting every thing you cook makes my mouth water.Have a great day!!
You sound like an amazing, experienced cook. However, in using this recipe: it was the first time I made a cake at 325 degrees at your suggestion. It did not work out at all. In fact, the cake is still in the oven baking for almost an hour at 325. I wish you would have worked out the details because in following them, it appeared you did not really know what you were doing after all. An hour in the oven is ridiculous for this type of cake.
Tamara, Many times when cakes have fruit and nuts they have to bake longer. This is why I have the temperature on 325 so it can bake longer without over-browning. Everyone's ovens are different and the baking time can be different that is why I tell you to test it with a toothpick. There should have been no problem with it baking a little longer. Your oven may need to be calibrated (see my calibration video). I hope you were patient and the cake finally finished baking. It is a delicious and moist cake. I had no problem at all with it getting done. I hope you added the 2 cups of flour and if so it should have worked. Thanks, Tammy
@@CollardValleyCooks I don't think you mean to sound patronizing. It took a full hour and approx 15 min tor it to come out of the oven. The first time I checked it was at 35 minutes in a preheated good oven. The batter was still mostly soupy at that point. I was surprised because I have decades of experience making cakes and breads and had followed the recipe -- exactly. It was fun to make, thanks to the inspiration of your video. Thank you. I will look forward to experiencing a second video from you.

Randy Miller looks delicious 😊
Congrats ...both of you...you are really inspiring to people like us...
Look at her hands, she knows EXACTLY what she's doing. The obvious aside I think a baked apple filling would go great in this cake.
If there ain't sugar then it ain't southern 😍😋😛🤟
i took this to OUR CHURCH dinner and everone loved it
Wonderful!

Your grandmother was making the real applesauce cake. These folks are making apple spice cakes and naming them improperly.
That cake looks and smells so delicious. It's one of my favourite cakes and my favourite cream cheese icing. Yum yum. :)
It is really good Jo-ann.
Looks delicious. I will be making this soon. Maybe Thanksgiving.. 🍁🍂🦃
Lois, Let me know if you try this recipe! Thanks for watching.
Excellent. I'm making this.😊

This looks soo good.
I dont have walnuts or raisin but I might try to make it anyway. I wish I had walnuts.

You wouldn't happen to have a recipe for jam cake or vinegar pie, would ya?🙄
Both are on CVC videos if you want to search
@@CollardValleyCooks I will, ty!
I added more cinnamon and nutmeg the second time. I made it to my taste, but this was delicious!!!!
This Apple Sauce Cake recipe looks so delicious Ms. Tammy.
Made this without adding eggs (oops) and it was still yummy.
Glad you tried it!
That’s beautiful looks like a bakery cake but probably tastes even better...you go girl.
Look delish I want some stickers Kimberly lol
Can I just mention how sweet and lovely this southern belle is? All cooking aside, you are quite the lady.
Oh the pictures at the end...*drooling*
Beautiful cake! I really like that it calls for applesauce, instead of apples, seems more convenient using the sauce. Btw, what's the name of the instrumental playing in the middle of your video?
I am not sure it is an older video and I use stock non-copyrighted music
Looks yummy and delicious. Like the texture too
Tammy did you use 1/2 cup shortening or 1 full cup? The vid says 1/2 cup but the written description says 1 cup?
Go by the written recipe
I enjoy making this cake
It looks so yummy.can I use oil if I don't got shortening
yes, or butter
Absolutely Devine!!
No apples of worth grow south of Mason-Dixie! Let Yankees make it as applesauce cake is so much BETTER with cold climate apples!
But the cream cheese icing, I'd have never thought of that-wonderful!
Your buttercream icing look great is there anyway you can put the recipe out
Check on collardvallycooks.com for it
this really looks good
I love your mixer
Why canned mill ? I don't buy canned milk. Can I use 2% mik? Is this what we call a Spanish bar cske?
Yes use milk
Neat mixer!
Tiny, my mama had a mixer like this when I was growing up. Now my older brother has it. They are awesome and last a lifetime!
This makes me want to add stickers to my kitchenaid mixer
Did you just add stickers or did it come that way painted?
Is it 1cup applesauce or 1 1/2 cups? You said 1, but on the screen it said 1 1/2.
Thanks! Love y’all.
Molasses makes it dark and flavorful.
Can you use half regular sugar and half brown sugar in recipes if it just calls for all regular sugar?
Yes
@@CollardValleyCooks I’m going to make an apple cake and it calls for just regular sugar and I thought some brown sugar would be good in it. Make it more moist too!
Looks delicious !
Thank you Bethy it was!
If you use cinnamon flavored applesauce do you still use cinnamon?
No you could omit it then
What brand is your mixer? I haven’t seen it before? Thanks
It is a Kitchen Aid!
didn't find the cream cheese icing recipe on your website?
www.collardvalleycooks.com/best-cake-icing-recipes.html
What can I substitute for the shortening?
Nothing, you can use butter but it will not turn out the same.
Coconut oil oxox
You doubled the cinnamon + nutmeg from what recipe says below. So which is it?
Is it to taste?!
Go by the written recipe
@@CollardValleyCooks thank you 😊

Brown sugar icing sounds AmAZinG!
Can I use margarine instead of shortening?
Maybe I am not sure how it would turn out
@@CollardValleyCooks
It turned out ok. I wish I would have had walnuts and raisins.
Tfs the recipe.
Shame on you! I almost ate my phone looking at that cake!!🤣
Can I use uter or oil please replie
Yes you could
Beautiful job
The recipe is different from the video. Why not just make a new video with the correct measurements? Very confusing.
One day I will
I don't mind, you just write down the correct recipe as you watch, and personally I think it's nice to know all the ways a recipe works and doesn't
I like sheet cakes better than trier cakes. I just think they are too thick .
Looks yummy
Is the applesauce unsweetened? Thanks
No
Is it 1/2 or 1 cup shortening? The video and written recipe are different.
Go by written recipe
oh yummmm

Why add baking soda??
It is standard in a cake recipe
Wow all of your baking looks yummy
