This is a beautiful piece of cutlery my friend. Your taste is truly top shelf brother. This is awesome. Ms sherry is awesome and she is truly a great friend of mine and she is the bees knees 🤘🙏👍🇺🇸
I just received mine today in the mail. It's a fantastic blade! The handle is kraton or what they call Kray-Ex. The spine is .300! Yes they still make them.
@@LegionTacticoolCutlery You're welcome! I think the San Mai Trail Master is the top fixed blade Cold Steel produces. Of course, the 3V version is waiting in the wings.
I just love this iconic knife and the convex edge on the San Mai, hate the sheath with a passion. Just bought the 3V version with the "Secure Ex sheath", that supposedly dulls the edge when you draw or insert. I've never experienced that issue but I think a kydex sheath is in order. Thanks for posting this video of your knife, I'd love to see it in action, there just aren't enough videos of this beautiful blade doing it's thing!
I have the Carbon V version of the Trailmaster. This knife is my favorite knife, and I have it for about 35 years. I had two big Tanto in SanMai, they have been the very first Cold Steel knifes I ever purchased. To be honest with you, it was the cutting they did in their ad video that made me buy them, and it was the start of a long time love for Cold Steel. Unfortunately all my Cold Steel knifes I collected back then disappeared during my divorce.
I know the feeling of having Cold Steel pieces stolen from you. The pigs stole 3 Espada XL's from my home over the years with no justifiable reason aside from wanting it for their collection. We can only hope that our stolen knives close on the hands of thieves and claim their fingers. They say blades are alive to some extent.
I was blown away (I'm a Cold Steel Lover) when I got this knife at the quality of the blade , Overall grind, And especially the convex Edge ! I'm looking forward to getting a 3V version of this and the Recon Scout. Thanks for sharing
@@LegionTacticoolCutlery I'm most interested in the 3V Recon Scout, As I've never handled one before. Just saw a 3V Taipan on online retailers website, Maybe the 3V offerings are starting to arrive.
"The sheath is totally adequate". OK, well that depends on what YOU regard as adequate. Now I took delivery of my Trail Master a couple of weeks ago from Heinie Haynes Knives, in Wales, UK. Upon arrival it became clear that the sheath was defective. It had obviously been used, and cuts at the entrance were clearly visible. The rivet at that side had already pulled through, so the sheath was not acceptable. Upon correspondence with a representative of the supplier, the sheath was quickly replaced, at their cost. Excellent service! However, to call the sheath "adequate" is pretty generous at best. I subsequently had a fantastic leather sheath specially made for me by Rob Evans also in Wales. Now I have both a fantastic knife and a stunning sheath for it. I agree with all you say about the knife. The handle fits my hand exactly right without a glove. First use was stunning. I repeated a RUclips review test I saw on the SRK using a branch of about 4cms thickness, which needed at least 12-15 chops to cut through. The Trail Master took 4 chops! A dangling 15mm climbing rope was sliced through repeatedly first time with virtually no effort! In the words so often heard on Forged In Fire, "This blade will cut!" Beautifully!

Jersey Knife Guy got the Talwar's on lock ,that Cold Steel San Mai III is nice mine is in O1 Tool Steel and they still have Trailmaster San Mai knives but they may be made in Taiwan and not call San Mai III but just San Mai vg10.
I have the O1 version. I like the San Mai better, but I like the O1 versions sheath better. Unfortunately, the San Mai won't fit in the O1 sheath. I might upgrade to the 3V version once it drops. Not sure though. I hate to buy 2 of the same knives, lol.

Hi, vielen Dank für das tolle Video❤️👍🔔 wünsche dir eine schöne Woche, wir bleiben in Kontakt, see you later, bleib gesund. Mit freundlichen Grüßen Siggi & Marianne ❤️
That lamination line that everyone is so nuts about is wavy on both sides of the knife you're showing us. The steel is 2x420J with VG1 sandwiched betwixt the two former. The 420J is basically a cheap, low end soft steel. VG1 chips easily upon impact on any hard surface. It's suitable for cutting meat in the kitchen while great care should be taken of not hitting the bone or any other hard surface. The guard is fixed to the reduced tang in the most unsofisticated manner imaginable - two pieces of steel welded on both sides of the tang fixing the guard to it, then overmolded with rubber that you baptize with some super-sofisticated name. This knife is far to expensive for what it is, not to mention a miserable, cheap sheath it comes with. For that money the knife should be executed with a full commitment and responsibility, and it should come with quality scales plus a thick, top quality leather sheath. Paying so much for this makes one a sucker and sends a lot of $ into the fatman's pocket. A clear exemple of deception. Bright and shiny, but nothing special. Sharpness is not a constant, hence irrelevant.
I have to agree since I have been outdoors testing great budget knives, this is junk. Expensive junk. Cold Steel can’t compete in my eyes with the knives I been testing. You sure are angry.
@@LegionTacticoolCutlery Thanks for the answer. However, I still do understand everyone who has fallen in love with this knife - the form, the shape and the proportions are fabulous, but that's it, and it just doesn't live up to its price. If you consider it an object of admiration or a beautifull item you're in possession of - it still is far to expensive and you still pay much too much for what you get and for what it is. My criticism is not directed towards you or anyone else who has loved and bought this knife. I my self have been a great admirer of the Trail Master, although I've never owned it. I've been following its genesis and evolution since it first appeared on the market, in the '80. At that time I knew very little about the steel, metallurgy and the knife design and I could be easily fooled by the sheer appearance. I remember that there was yet another very popular knife in those years made by Gerber - a bowie type knife with a coffin-shaped handle that in my opinion vastly superseded the CS TM, but CS's marketing had allready been super hyped and overly exaggerated. Gerber was also much more custommer friendly and that bowie knife they made was much more affordable. The CS attitude toward customers is just not fair. They do the same with their Natchez and Laredo bowies with those ridiculous cable tangs, or whatever they might be called. Those technical solutions are utterly unprofessional and ridiculous. Those justifications about big bowie knives being more flexible and impact resistant or whatever with such a design - that is a pure BS. It just about making it as cheap and selling it as expensive as possible. One can say whatever about my statement, but I do believe that there are people who share my opinion. But that's how it is, that's how they earned a lotta $, and that's how this world functions. It's a shame, for all these knives, Trail Master, Laredo and Natchez, they all have a great potential. The best knife made by CS when it comes to price vs quality ratio has ever been Recon Tanto in SK5, but that's entirely another story and another knife type. The SK5 is a low-end steel, but for what it costs it makes sense. I'm convinced that what CS called their superrior Carbon V steel, was nothing else but SK5. If the Trail Master was made the way it should be, and if it's design was brought to an satisfying final solution - I would have gladly pay the price. It's just a shame, that's all.
Too bad that isn't about 89 dollars, which is what it is worth. Two and Three hundred dollar alternatives are far better. Not saying I don't like it, but I don't like buying a knife based on hype versus value.
