Watching you chop on the XL is so inspiring. Thanks for the tips. I kinda chop in a similar way anyway but seeing you do it is inspirational. I need to get my 2000XL fixed. Watching this makes me miss it so much. I use my other MPCs but I miss the XL. Keep up the great work
Man, I love the new Akai stuff too. But just looking at the Mpc 2000xl is inspiring. I can't escape the magic of the classics. The sound is a bit punchy and warmer.
I currently own an MPC Live II, and I had the MPC 1000 years ago. Love them both, but there is something in the appearance of the 2000XL that is SO freaking cool. It's the sexiest MPC for me, even over the 60. Good video, man.
That XL is BEAUTIFUL bro! Every time I see you use it I’m in awe of the great condition you’ve kept it in 😂I’m looking to get the MPC One + plus soon though.
Endless possibilities re-creating some of these chops. Thank you so much for watching the video and commenting. Nothing but love and blessings to you brother.
I brought the 2kxl back in 2018 been making beats for a couple years at that point. I still own it but can’t lie when I got the mpc one in 2021 I don’t think the machine has been switched on 😂 when you said about spending hours to find you made a bad beat oh god it brought me back!
@@malobeats I had a buddy that had the mpc studio he came over when I got my xl and couldn’t understand how you couldn’t chop whilst sampling, he never used an older sampler before that was the moment I realised I wanted to try a quicker process!
@@malobeats Now I'm thinking of getting a clarinet to go with my alto sax. They're the same type of wind/reed instrument. It's great to play a couple of notes on the real thing and then sample it and do your melody with your own performance
Yo @ MALO BEATS . Do you or have you hooked up your mpc2000xl to the Analog heat ? If you have , how does that sound to you ? And would you implement this two units in your work flow ?
Recently bought an mpc for the second time and have been enjoying your insightful content. Do you have any videos on how to manage subtle or not so subtle drum sounds when sampling? I’ve been messing with filters was wondering what your input is on this?
The last few weeks I’ve been just using my live as a main source to feed my 2xl , sp1200, etc… I feel more inspired with a 2xl then the live for some reason , pads feel better and just feels better overhaul , maybe it’s the less menu diving and just focusing on the music instead. ✌️
Would you ever modify your MPC 2000xl to where you take the floppy disk reader and have it swapped out with a USB or SD Card reader instead? I've heard of it being done but was curious would you do it yerself? Love your flow/workflow keep up the work brotha! Your a gem in the MPC Community! Love watching your videos! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
first off how do I copy a sample from one pad to the next, possibly rename it and then save it. or do I just save it with a different name and then ill have 2 and assign it to the pad2? and secondly did you sample all those pads individually? rather than using Zone Edit? or did you perhaps use Zone Edit but NOT create a new program? I'm like 3 weeks in with my 2kxl. if you want to tell me how "program change" works id appreciate it as well, sometimes I assign a program to a track but when I hit record it goes back to Pgm-A somehow and drums start playing the Midi where I originally had say a key sample chromatically. - thanks dog Salute
I also listen to how the music is played behind any part of a section of music that has vocals present I’d like to sample. I then listen to the entire song to see if the music is repeated again without vocals
Dude, yes I’m so glad you asked. Check the one that I’m using in this video. I have a link in my bio, it cost around $125 new or you can cene find it used for cheaper and it sounds AMAZING. Audio technica LP 60
I call this Madlib technique he does this alot just loops and than he will put little flute in or maybe just half of the word from vocal or a breath and than you put effect over that and its game on. Everything you said about xl workflow is truth. Its slow so you need to know what you are doing or you waste whole day for a single beat...
I'm having a problem , when I use the sampler on the MPC 1 no sound comes through my speakers or headphones while I'm sampling but the samples are recording and are there to use but I don't know what I'm recording until I have finished??? Help
Yes. I know the issue you might be running into. When you’re in your sampler page receiving input signal, make sure you engage the in button located on the lower left-hand side of the LCD screen. Once that’s engaged you’ll signal coming in. Please let me know once you get this going.
Hey brotha. Was just rocking these for my videos, but I had a few people mentioning the hats so I will make them available very soon for us. Thank you so so much for taking the time and mentioning this. 🫡

sampling theory - so pivotal thank you!

Pretty sure that other instrument is a clarinet (or an oboe)... great video as always!!!
You’re absolutely right lol clarinet sounds about right. Thank you so much for dropping in with this brother.

You using a choke group? I thought the 2000XL can only have three pads cut each other off? Or you sliced those chops perfectly it fit the tempo?
It doesn’t have choke groups, if it had that and normalize I’d use it much more because it makes drums sound amazing
I also listen to how the music is played behind any part of a section of music that has vocals present I’d like to sample. I then listen to the entire song to see if the music is repeated again without vocals
? When you set your drum bpm tempo then find your sample and chop it to that drum bpm to match correct?
Thinking of purchasing a vinyl player so I can use with my Mpc one any recommendations for affordable one?
