In this video I will unbox, swatch and test the Derwent Line & Wash Paint Pan Set. If you check out my instagram post for this video on or after Sunday, March 10, 2024, you'll see the portrait of our eldest son, Mike, that I painted with this versatile set. He was wearing a goofy cowboy hat as dictated by his sweet daughter. He's a great daddy and a terrific Senior Chief Petty Officer!
In this review, I've also introduced a new-to-me Amazon Basics sketchbook. At the time of publication, this little gem of a sketchbook is only $8.50 US and would make for a really nice travel journal. I was pleasantly surprised!
My Derwent Playlist: • Derwent Art Supplies
The Line & Wash Paint Pan Set is a wonderful addition to the family of Derwent curated palettes. The Derwent products I've featured here on Art on the Creek have never failed to surprise and delight; this set is no exception.
I don’t discuss lightfastness in this video. Since this set contains a mix of a few of their product lines, please see the Derwent website for any lightfastness or pigment information. All pans in this set are of a professional artist tier.
If you'd like a full-length tutorial on the charming street scene, that will be added to my membership platform. Check out the link here to learn more about the benefits of becoming an Art on the Creek Patron (Member): / @artonthecreek

I loved this video. You inspired me to buy the graphite tint set a month ago and when you first mentioned the Amazon Basics sketchbook, I ordered two of them. I plan to use them specifically for the line and wash pieces I like to do and want to save my watercolor sketch book for the water-heavy watercolor work. Like you, I absolutely love the paper- it holds up for gouache too. I’m just learning gouache and often dilute it so I can move it more easily, and the paper holds up just fine.

Hi Linda! Who would have thought that a generic Amazon sketchbook under $10 would be so good, right?! I’m delighted you’re enjoying them!
Thank you so much for your membership, too! I’m deeply grateful to know you appreciate Art on the Creek. Have TONS of fun with the graphitint and the line & wash sets!
And also the gouache! It’s a wonderful medium!
Enjoy your weekend and happy creating 💜

Thanks for the reply! I have had a selection of Derwent watercolor pencils for years, but really enjoy the Derwent kits! So convenient and lovely colors. I may have to get the line and wash set, too-a nice selection. Happy Spring!

Absolutely love your street scene Ann. I must take a look at the Amazon basics art materials a little closer. I hope it’s working out very well for you. Interestingly, on your first painting, you called those sweets “lifesavers “, here in Scotland they have been around for over 50 years, but were and still are called, ‘fruit polos”. A polo is obviously mint, but the ones you painted are fruity? Good night, hope your day is going well. 🎨👩🏻‍🎨🖌️❤️❤️

Hi Anita! Thanks so much! Line & Wash has a very unique quality, doesn’t it?!
Fruit polos! I think that’s much better!
I have yet to try the Amazon Basics colored pencils. Lindsay Weirich wasn’t a fan-so we’ll have to see. I do love this art journal, though! Can’t believe it-I thought it would be an experimental waste of money & it’s a KEEPER!! Woohoo!🎉

Isn’t it strange how often the items we have the lowest expectations of, tend to surprise us? 😁👍🏻🎨🖌️👩🏻‍🎨
