_Power Instinct_ (Atlus) and Fighter's History (Data East) are two fighting game series that were big deals in Japan but would never catch on overseas like the competition did during the 1990s.
Thanks dude! Me and a friend played Matrimelee for the first time, and I was confused by the familiar faces from when I'd played Rage of the Dragons in the past. This series is pretty damn niche, so finding retrospective stuff on it was something I was worried I wouldn't be able to do, but this nailed it! Certainly interested in exploring more of the series!
I can see why it never caught on when SF 2/MK/Killer Instinct were the standard at the time. Also Bushido Blade was supposedly the counter strike of fighting games also at that time, though I never personally got into it.
Bushido Blade was cool but I never got into it either. I think it's one of those games where you have to be willing to devote a lot of time and effort to it.
@@riskybitness Pretty much, mk was my focus and even held the record for most wins (46) at a local mall. It was crazy how popular that game was, to the point people on their lunch breaks from work would come to play.
The single player arcade is just unplayable due to the impossible difficulty...same goes for power instinct 2... that's a pity because the combat engine is very fun. At least all the sequels are more balanced and enjoyable. The genesis version is the better port but I prefer the snes version, the slowest gameplay and lower difficulty makes it more accessible for a casual gamer like me.
well atlus evolved into like persona so they cant keep remaking the obscure games anymore, so thats why they possibly sold power instinct to noise factory
Sounds like you just need to get good because matrimelee rocks and is a super well designed fighting game. Sf2 is also the highest grossing game of all time if accounting for inflation, I wouldn't call that over hype. Maybe fighting games just aren't your thing.

Man, Matrimelee is one of my favorite games to this day. The Power Instinct series never really caught on, but Matrimelee is just so good.
Gouketsuji Legends is easily the franchise’s peak, and my favorite. Here’s to that new Gouketsuji rumors going around!

The neogeo one is funny 😄
It's also really good, I'm looking forward to covering that one!

Did they sell _Power Instinct_ to Noise Factory or did they just grant them a license to use the IP?
@@realtalk6195 idk but im guessing that noise factory continued the legacy (since theyre made up of former atlus members)
