Alec Baldwin: Baldwin, who played Adam Maitland in the original, was not in the sequel. Geena Davis: Davis, who played Barbara Maitland in the original, was not in the sequel. However, the sequel did include some original cast members, such as Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Katherine O'Hara. Baldwin and Davis are only mentioned in a brief line of dialogue in the sequel.
I think people are way, WAY too harsh on this movie. There are so many elements in this movie that work, and more so, triumph. It’s brought down by a messy, chaotic plot and some poor writing techniques. But I’m tired of people saying things are the WORST like there’s no entertainment value in Michael Keaton acting like a supreme jackass with a great cast around him, and a production set that rivals the first one.
He just has higher expectations, you need people like him in conversations because impressing him would mean making an exceptional product which is better for all of us in the long run. Don't be hatin on him that's just his style of consuming entertainment, we're all different brother and that's a good thing.
@@vadamsvengeance3219 But expecting things to be the best version of themselves that they could possibly be is definitely a good way to get better things wouldn't you agree? Not every product is destined to be a masterpiece but they can always be extremely impressive attempts at being excellent, and that's what he is hoping to experience because that's his jam.
Disappointing to say the least. Trailer really made it seem like Lydia and Beetlejuice would be partnered most the film kinda like the cartoon from years back. Instead two plots that had no connection and no satisfying ending to either dragged it way down 😕
I think that actually would have worked decently- Lydia asks Beetlejuice to help her go after her daughter simply out of necessity and in the process actually learn to get along (doesn't need to be romantic, just an odd duo sort of thing). You could have still had Delores as a background antagonist who breaks in at the end, but all the other fluff could have been trimmed out and would have made a more solid story with actual character arcs.
10:21 This is the exact problem with a lot of these remakes and sequels - you simply cannot recreate the magic of the original, especially as it has been nearly 40 years since the original came out.
Maybe the reason Beetlejuice has a business is to fill a purpose in the underworld and avoid being forced to cross over. He would undoubtedly go to hell given his life and thus his motivation for the company to exist.
I hate to keep harping on this, but Burton and other directors were meant to shoot on film, not digital. From what I could tell that was a problem and it reminded me of the recent Munsters film.
I just saw this movie in theaters and I came back to this video just to say that saying the movie was less than average is absolutely ridiculous. This is a fantastic movie. Not as well-paced as the first movie but still excellent in its own right. There's a lot of stuff going on in this movie that you won't find in any other modern movie. What Tim Burton does in this film should be appreciated. That whole scene at the end with the cake was fantastic. I honestly hope they do a Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
This movie was actually a 4/10 Keaton is amazing. Ortega has always been overrated. Theres too much going on. A lot of it is pointless and the rest is rushed because the pointless stuff takes up screen time. I took my niece to see it. I probably laughed 5 times.
@@dreddscott3873 Ortega is great. She acts well in this movie. Just look at the interactions between her and that guy who's trying to marry her mom. The problem is that the words that come out of her mouth are very bland. She needed better material.
Beetlejuice is a movie that didn't need a sequel; so at that Bettlejuice 2 is a fine movie, not a great movie, but a good release and a breather from all the remakes and uninspired sequels that have become so common... Solid 6/10; would give it a 7/10, but it definitely feels like a sequel that arrived a bit too late to the party...
@@ProcyonDei it took decades to make a sequel because Tim Burton used to know that it didn't need a sequel. The studio has been trying to make one for decades (Kevin Smith was famously asked to direct it once). But then Tim Burton made a bunch of trash for Disney and in the mean time got old and irrelevant. Now he's probably having a crisis and going back to what he did when he was younger to try and recapture what he used to be. While he still can. But it's gone now. He wasted too much time. Not that he made nothing good, but its been so long who can remember? They certainly won't with a movie like this.
The music was fun… visual effects were done well. Keaton is entertaining. Didn’t mind the atmospheric aesthetic. Creative execution. Never saw the first. Enjoyed this film. 7/10
It should have started with the funeral and her mom killing herself with the snakes later, Jenna meets the boy who takes her soul, Winona doesn't know why she can't see her close loved ones to help find her daughter, so she calls beetlejuice to help her figure all this shit out. The really annoying thing about Joe in these reviews, is when he talks about either the lore or the comic somethings based on because he says he loves it but proceeds to constantly misremember old films or just get comic lore wrong. If your going to review a sequel at least rewatch the original first
Yeah that really annoys me too. Like I get having a really strong opinion on lore. But when you outright forget the “original” movies plot points you undermine your lore argument.
I thought it sucked, I was so disappointed I nearly walked out. Willem Defoe’s character is completely un necessary and adds nothing to the plot. They chose not to hire the actor who played Charles Dietz because of his legal problems, I get it and I agree with that decision, then why spend sooooo much time dwelling on that character over and over? Just say he died and drop it. In the original lore not everybody becomes a ghost, it would be so easy to just say he “crossed over”. They make some extremely corny jokes and then just beat you over the head with the same gag again and again. I feel sorry for Michael Keaton, they did him dirty. The film not only had serious pacing issues, it had a serious editing error. Defoe pulls Beetlejuice into his office to question him (he even summons him by name). Then two scenes later, he is investigating the escape of Beetlejuice’s wife and he asks another detective “Who is this Beetlejuice character?”. Oops, guess they got their scenes out of order! God it was awful. And the main villain doesn’t even have one single line! Seriously, she floats around sucking up people and never says a damn thing, no character development. Ugh!
Beetlejuice was like a xanax'd version of the original. i understand keaton not being able to bounce around that much anymore, but no yelling or screaming either.
Yeah, he’s still funny but he doesn’t have that wild man energy from the first movie, it’s been 30 years so you can’t expect that same energy as before
As of 2024, the average movie ticket price in the USA ranges between $9 and $15, with the most common figure being $11.75. (Copilot). Lets say an average family have 4 people. Each ticket cost 10 bucks. Thats 40 bucks (no drink, no popcorn, no gas money, etc etc). Angry Joe: Dont expect much out of it, it feels like one of the "MEH" episode in a good "TV" series. At this day and age, economy is bad as it is, spend this kind of money on a Meh episode of a tv series, "I DONT THINK SO".
Film was fun 7/10 for me First half not necessary needed Less characters To many story lines at once And IF YOU DID NOT SEE THE FIRST ONE ALOT OF JOKES WILL GO RIGHT OVER YOUR HEAD
I'm writing that my name is Josh and i'm writing that in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice only has 17 minutes of physical screentime just like he did in the first Beetlejuice film.
I'm still flustered that the musical production doesn't capitalize on video sales. Because Beetlejuice the musical hosts the ghost with the most. And it has Beetlejuice way more than th Burton versions.
This felt like a 45 minute beetlejuice film with 4 plots adding another 45 minutes of nonsense. Too many stories at once. Tone it down. Could have avoided too many characters. Just an ok movie to pass time with. This wasn’t a great legacy sequel, it was a mess, a fun mess… but damn.
I saw this last night. It felt like 80% set up and a WEAK climax. The way charecters arcs were just cut short was really strange, like there was production issues. Id give it a 6/10 as well

They made BJ a simp for Lydia which is out of character. In the first film he just wanted out of the afterlife. Lydia in the sequel was unsure of herself and pathetic where in the first movie she was jaded and cared less about things until she met the Maitlands.
Not surprised you guys are as lukewarm as you were with the movie. For some reason I figured you guys wouldn't like it. Personally - I thought it was a bunch of fun and LOVED the fact it didn't give any craps about offending people with some of the visual gags - and would give it a 8 out of ten.
I expected a throw away line about Charles Deetz being in the death for the dead room. Instead, he’s all over the film. This isn’t the story I woulda gone with, but I still liked it
Same it needed he's dead he went straight to hell that's it done. But you just know Hollywood types wanted him in the movie somehow but knew the public would reject it so added as much as they could get away with it. Sick sick people.
Of course if you really watch Tim Burton's movies they all start off slow and boring from the beginning but it warms up and then it gets better and better to the end..
Saying Delores was in the movie way too much only proves that Alex didn't watch the movie, she was missing from most of it and showed back up for no reason like the "last boss" of Final Fantasy 9.
Sometimes darker is better give the daughter THAT PLOT make her the villain the one who's all in for what Beetlejuice wants like THAT would be amazing to see
I had the same exact issues with the movie. And the same solution. Use the plotline with astrid and the boy more. Make it more sinister and exiting. Skip monica and willem defoe. Use bob more. He is funny. Now too many useless scenes wit throwaway characters.
I REALLY don't understand these people. If they would put GREAT writers on these projects, and make GREAT movies with these remakes, they could make INSANE money. And not only that, but they could REJUVENATE the franchise, sell tons of new merch, tons of digital copies of the old movies, physical copies of collectors editions, and most importantly REBUILD confidence in the company making it! Which would improve revenue and excitement for FUTURE PROJECTS! But when you 💩 the 🛏️, it tanks, and then nobody wants to see what you make next! 😒
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was freaking amazing! I loved it more than the first 10/10. Really like how to put Beetlejuice more in the second movie, but they did it so very tastefully and didn’t overdid Michael Keaton did Beetlejuice like he just stepped off the filming of the first movie and made the second one. Jenna Ortega‘s character was very well acted, it didn’t feel like she was playing Wednesday or a different role before it! And Winona Ryder didn’t skip a beat! Just wish she was a bit more gothic. What is cool she grew out of it, but still have some remnants of her old character.
Hard disagree. This isn’t the type of movie to complain about plot convenience or “omg. this doesn’t make sense 😵”. People having crazy specific criticisms of a movie that has the “soul train” in it with 70’s era dancing ghosts are the reason Hollywood doesn’t give us fun movies anymore. It’s literally just a goofy fun romp, 7/10, probably better than the original.
I had a choice to watch either this or Strange Darling - a movie I knew very little about. I've seen the second I loved it - original, interesting story, outstanding acting and great style. We really need more new stories instead of endless reboots, sequels and prequels.
Same here. I went to see Strange Darling too and everyone recommended to go in blind. It genuinely surprised me and was unique, creative, and a thrill ride. We need more writing that's original instead of these soulless woke sequels and remakes.
@@Blanktester685 You see, I cannot really answer that without spoiling fun and I want people to enjoy it.
People can't enjoy anything these days unless it's some cinematic masterpiece smh

Disappointing to say the least. Trailer really made it seem like Lydia and Beetlejuice would be partnered most the film kinda like the cartoon from years back. Instead two plots that had no connection and no satisfying ending to either dragged it way down 😕
Cartoon was so damn good
I think that actually would have worked decently- Lydia asks Beetlejuice to help her go after her daughter simply out of necessity and in the process actually learn to get along (doesn't need to be romantic, just an odd duo sort of thing). You could have still had Delores as a background antagonist who breaks in at the end, but all the other fluff could have been trimmed out and would have made a more solid story with actual character arcs.
Oh I was expecting a big old team myself
Bruh it was 5 plots
10:21 This is the exact problem with a lot of these remakes and sequels - you simply cannot recreate the magic of the original, especially as it has been nearly 40 years since the original came out.
Maybe the reason Beetlejuice has a business is to fill a purpose in the underworld and avoid being forced to cross over. He would undoubtedly go to hell given his life and thus his motivation for the company to exist.
Wow that could be very true! I heard after 200 years you can leave your house or wherever you died in
I hate to keep harping on this, but Burton and other directors were meant to shoot on film, not digital. From what I could tell that was a problem and it reminded me of the recent Munsters film.
All the monster horror stuff looked like it was done by the same team that done the new Ghostbusters movie. To shiny and perfect it just felt off.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice : The resurrection of BOB
It boggles the mind how these studios see the finished product and say YES this is good, it's perfect release it.
I agree. Many of these movies were brilliant and didn't need any reimaginings/remakes or sequels same as the crow and hocus pocus. It's a money grab.

I think that's the point tho. It's a play on the tropes so when the twist happens it's less expected. Really worked for me
There’s was like 5 different romances that were all focused on throughout the movie, it took me out of it.
If it was still the 80s : 4/10

It should have started with the funeral and her mom killing herself with the snakes later, Jenna meets the boy who takes her soul, Winona doesn't know why she can't see her close loved ones to help find her daughter, so she calls beetlejuice to help her figure all this shit out. He needed more screentime
If they make a final film to the trilogy they should call it Threetlejuice
That was so dumb it made me laugh

Didn’t like it. Baby beetle was the best thing in the movie. Soul train was cheesy! I get it but… It had nothing on the first one. 3/10 for me.

I gotta disagree with them on a lot of points. For me the movie was a 7.8-8 out of 10. Making it a fun entertaining film and a worthy sequel. The Juice is back baby!
Ugh!
I almost walked out 3 times. I really do.
Beetlejuice was like a xanax'd version of the original. i understand keaton not being able to bounce around that much anymore, but no yelling or screaming either.

Bob was not a new character
