The white interior makes the car GLOW! It looks so much brighter. But the black looks sleeker. You can't go wrong either way. Thanks for the comparisons!
I agree. I’ve heard people having issues with white, but I am going on 1.5 years with white on my Model 3 without any issues. And I travel the country with a dog in the back seat most of the time!
Well the Model 3 DOES have a lot of space for a sport sedan. In its class, not much else has the usable space of the Model 3. The issue I have are people are comparing 2 different vehicle classes on “space” and that has never been done before. Porsche makes a SUV (Cayenne) and sports cars (911 Turbo)- when was the last time reviewers compared the space of the Cayenne and the 911 Turbo? Of course the Cayenne has more. Duh. It’s crazy to see direct space comparisons between the Model 3 and Y- of course the crossover SUV will have more space. The spec sheet shows 68 cubic feet for the Y vs 15 for the 3. Shocker that the Y has more leg and head room.
Thanks for including a more normal height in the video for comparison. That helped a lot using a 5’10” height. Seeing how much space people still have even with your (6’5”) seat makes me really want to get the Model Y. As I am 6’2” myself I worry about people having room in the back.
Middle seat of the Model Y is the issue. For the sake of aerodynamics they’ve pinched in the cabin towards the rear and it really doesn’t have enough room for 3 seats on the second row. Anyway, so long as you accept the Y’s a 4+1 seater, it’s a great car. It will be interesting to see if the “7 seater” resolves this problem and what the compromises are with that arrangement.
I mean: three adults shoulder to shoulder in the model Y. I have teen kids, like you, but three of them. I found the model X didn't work because of the thick beam in the roof. The model 3 was too small for us. I wonder if the model Y would work.
When you got into the Y your head was very close to that roof rail. I guess thats what you call it. I wonder how much the airbag will keep your head from smacking it.
Yeah! Thank you for mentioning this. I sat in one and if you recline the seat at all it pushes on your head. What happens if you get rear ended?? Are my passengers skulls going to be cracked open because the headrest is too short?
Thanks Brian, you’ve answered my remaining questions about both the Model 3 and Model Y. I’m 6”6’ and my brother is 6”7’, so it looks like we’d barely fit in the Model 3 back seat, and comfortably fit in the Y. As much as I like the lower seating position in a Model 3 and prefer the styling, I think the Model Y would be a lot more comfortable on long trips, so I think it’s going to edge out the 3 for me. (Not that I plan to sit in the back seat very much...)
It was great to see the rear seat comparisons, and a 6'5" person in it. I'm 6'2", but I HAVE SHORT legs, so am anxious to see how I fit in my ordered mY. I have to contort myself to get into M3 and Ms.
I'm 6'4 and it was a struggle for me to sit in a model 3. I don't see how he got back there? He just skipped to him in the car already. He didn't show the struggle.
how does the model x doors do in the rain... seems with since they open up so much with those gull doors.. any sort of wind and the rain would just soak the inside.
I'm curious about the interior width. In the 3 I can fit two boosters on either side, and a teenager in the middle. Not ideal but it works in a pinch. Would the Y give a bit more room.
My daughter is 5 and her foot can not fit behind the drivers seat when she is in a booster seat. I am 6’2” and drive with the seat all the way back. I wish I could measure leg room on both the model y and the model 3 *when the drivers seat is all the way back*.
I noticed in the 3 your shoulders were in line with the top of the seat 1:50, whereas in the Y your shoulders were above the top of the seat 2:21. This would probably mean the seatbelt would pull (gently) down on your shoulder in the Y.
Mike Mellock I can tell you the answer for every Tesla. Unless you need Track Mode, start with the 18’s and upgrade everything aftermarket. It gives you more flexibility, lower starting and end price, and better end result. *Most* people who take it to the track are hobbyists not professionals. Lighter wheels with taller sidewalls are available aftermarket. Throw on the 18’s when you are doing everyday travel.
You showed your feet fitting under the front seat of the Model Y while in back. Can you say the same for the Model 3? For the first gen seats of the model 3, I could not get comfortable in back because I could not slide my feet under the front seat.
I’m thinking of a Model y Tesla or model 3 Tesla. I’m not sure on what to buy but after I watched this I’m definitely thinking of buying the model y in the future when I’m older.
The Model Y looks like the best car the have hands down. The seating position is very important, I hate it when my knees are in my face. This has been the best comparison so far of the rear seat. I'm definitely thinking about getting one. SUBBED!
I am 6'7" and my head bumps against the glass in my mother in law's Model 3 when in the back seat and I have to lean my head forward. It is good to know the Model Y has more headroom in the back. I am thinking the Model Y will have to be my next car when it is time for me to get a new car.
Y is the best Tesla-safety, utility, right sized, value, manufacturing/design. Y Performance is a steal and so awesome. X if you want more bling 6/7 passenger.

@@dph9885 Visibility out the rear in the Y is terrible. Plus that cross-beam in the back could really knock your passengers in the head if you get rear ended.
