Amazing video! I know other stages don't all have references as clear as this one but I would love to see future videos like this, even if they're shorter or more focused on particular subjects rather than a whole stage.
Recently I visited Japan and visited the Nintendo store in Kyoto station. Got myself some merch and was super glad, it was an absolute blast, such a happy memory. Then, i saw the trailer for Lemuria Hub and was like, “cool, nice map-WAIT, IS IT?!”
You know, I see the issues people have with most of the stages in Splat 3 conceptually. How it doesn't feel like a part of the world like they used to. I mean, what's Rom En even? You have an actual restaurant and a play area in the middle. What's it for? Just to Kite ink teens away from the rest of the establishment? Either way I think of Lumeria similarly but I have a new found appreciation seeing all the detail that is put into these stages never the less.
oh yeah i totally get that. i like stages that feel more built into the world, like camp triggerfish, blackbelly skatepark, or flounder heights. lemuria hub definitely falls into the trap of "abstract thing and then cool things in the background" splatoon 1 stages had an atmosphere of "this is a real place that kids arent supposed to be playing but theyre being a disruption and doing it anyway", but over time it feels like turf wars have gotten more and more corporate, to the point where businesses have started to make spaces specifically for turf wars to happen without it being a disruption.
It’s actually kinda funny that after I get back from my trip to Japan in the spring, the new season comes out and I see the new stage and I’m like “hey I was literally just there in this station and now its a stage”
This video was very cool, like always. thank you! i remember going around lemuria and finding the deepsea metro map, very cool, i love it when they hide things for us to find. speaking of, i think a lot of people have seen this, but i found the writings on the crepe stand in inkopolis square very cute.
It’s so cool to see someone who enjoys Splatoon as much if not more than I do. I wish I could see the real life places Splatoon is based on. I hope you have a great day! 🦑
(0:03) That's understandable, also considering that the Splatoon series has one of the most immersive fictional worlds of any Nintendo game series I can think of! (0:56) You figuring out what the real-world inspiration was and actually going there in person reminded me of similar things being done by Bluey fans as that TV series turned out to take place in a fictionalised depiction of Brisbane (Australia). (1:37) ‘…so I'm gonna jump right in’ and proceeds to instead Super Jump right in. I see what you did there. 😆 (4:02) That reminded me of when I imagined someone mapping out relative locations of Splatoon stages and hubs based on visibility of other stages and/or hubs (e.g. Hagglefish Market being visible from Crableg Capital). (5:13) I somehow immediately recognised that as a spoof of the Takashimaya logo, particularly because I do remember that they have at least one location in Singapore, where I live. (6:03) That was one of the first things I recognised, being familiar with them from seeing them at MRT stations and a number of other locations across Singapore. On a side note, even though I can see, I'd often walk on such pavements to keep myself walking straight if I were to lose focus. (7:57) I also imagined that the signs would read something along the lines of parts of the station being closed for ink battles during off-peak periods or something like that. (11:28) I remember seeing a news clip about the campaign (even though I don't speak Japanese, but ran the webpages and RUclips comments through Google Translate to get a rough idea of what was being mentioned), and I found it interesting that the honourary station master Inkling had a Splatoon 2 ink battle ink tank, but it was probably because there weren't any Splatoon 3 Inkling costumes available to use.
Also visited Kyoto Station after the season dropped and the level of detail in Lemuria makes stepping into the actual lobby felt so surreal. Wish I had more time to explore the main hub but I can’t wait to visit again in the future. :D
i feel like the deepsea metro map is DEFINITELY intentional!!! iso padre takes the place of spyke in inkopolis square so i feel it's safe to say that if not repurposed, it was at least made aware to general public. along with the time gap and the nils statue in hammerhead, i feel the deepsea metro was "refound" (it was already connected to the square, just seemingly abandoned?)
I personally would like to see other videos on other stages like this in the future, if it's possible that is. I really enjoyed the deep dive into a stage that I have mildly mixed feelings about.

GHHHHAAAAA I LOVE KYOTO STATION!!!!!! Trains are one of my most favorite things in the entire world, Kyoto station is my favorite station of all time, and THIS STAGE IS SO GOOOOD I LOVE IT also one of my nephews works at the Kyoto station Isetan! I adore that Nintendo basically just made a love letter to Kyoto Station in Splatoon!!!!! Edit: also 9:29 EEE HANKYU MENTIONED ITS MY FAVORITE TRAIN SYSTEM Edit 2: 14:30 I’d just like to add that 551 Horai is LITERALLY. EVERYWHERE. In Japan. You can find a 551 in basically every single department store basement ever (the basement is where Department stores sell food). You can also find them in most airports and yes, most major train stations.
Even if there aren’t as many irl inspiristions in other maps, I’d love more deep-dive explorations similar to this with some of the other maps, even ones shown in Splatoon 2
I’m fairly certain the extremely tall building visible from lemuria hub (around 3:35 in the video) is the same building that’s right behind the lobby in splatsville
Youre doing god's work!! I discovered your channel very recently and even though I was already in love with the world of splatoon, your videos make me appreciate it that much more!!! I'm glad there's people who share this much passion for these games. Thank you for your service!
ruclips.net/video/1VEN0WtEKUo/видео.html - my only guess for a lore explanation would be it being there for expats of the deep sea metro? like a handy reference chart saying "this railway is analogous to the deep sea metro" in case anyone gets confused because of the signage being slightly different or the like
thank you so much for linking the spreadsheet/wiki in the description. you know your audience so well because yes i did want that. You have very much earned a like-and-subscribe from me, and I would give you Patreon money to go do more squid autism were it not for my being a broke college student.
I’d love it if you made a video about where all the stages are in relation to each other and the world map. If I remember correctly, someone used the train lines in Lemuria Hub to figure it out.
I think it would be cool if a future splatoon game would play far away from inkopolis in a city somewhere else on the world with eastereggs to the country that was there before the great flood (like a game playing where canada, Italy, germany etc once were)
Genuinely wonder what makes the devs choose which text should be actually legible or just pure gibberish lol, seems almost random at times "Yet another stage to explore and be not normal about" so fucking true

i think there was some sorbet-like sweets at the machine i used (soda/ramune flavor and grape im pretty sure?), i just didn't make a smart choice on the flavor i chose LOL
Edit: also 9:29 EEE HANKYU MENTIONED ITS MY FAVORITE TRAIN SYSTEM
Edit 2: 14:30 I’d just like to add that 551 Horai is LITERALLY. EVERYWHERE.
5:58 🥺 i love that
rassicas thank you so dearly. i owe you so much for this video (so normal about this game)
I’m fairly certain the extremely tall building visible from lemuria hub (around 3:35 in the video) is the same building that’s right behind the lobby in splatsville
this goes straight into my comfort video playlist
thank you for another great video!!! as a japanese train autistic AND splatoon autistic this made my day
this is soap is so beautiful omg wow. also. Yes. idk i love these colors
Youre doing god's work!! I discovered your channel very recently and even though I was already in love with the world of splatoon, your videos make me appreciate it that much more!!! I'm glad there's people who share this much passion for these games. Thank you for your service!
I love this channel❗️❗️❗️im so happy seeing people love this franchise as much as i do❗️❗️❗️
I hope the asbestos train gets a question in a sec interview. It would be hilarious.
I would to see a video of ‘questions I would like to ask the developers’
ruclips.net/video/1VEN0WtEKUo/видео.html - my only guess for a lore explanation would be it being there for expats of the deep sea metro? like a handy reference chart saying "this railway is analogous to the deep sea metro" in case anyone gets confused because of the signage being slightly different or the like
thank you so much for linking the spreadsheet/wiki in the description. you know your audience so well because yes i did want that. You have very much earned a like-and-subscribe from me, and I would give you Patreon money to go do more squid autism were it not for my being a broke college student.
i fucking love the train jingles, they're very cute
my sleep schedule can wait. rassicas uploaded a new video
much appreciation for the spreadsheet
I think this map single handedly made me want to play the game after a year of not playing
€1,38 bus fare and €1,33 train fare when it's €1,70 bus (2,50 for single journey) and *€7,50* train here was so crazy to me 😭
I love this video so much! This type of analysis and comparison to "place, Japan" is so cool!
I had no idea the train jingles in Den-O are based on an actual thing and not just random flair
love how in depth this video was, shout out to kyoto
I’d love it if you made a video about where all the stages are in relation to each other and the world map. If I remember correctly, someone used the train lines in Lemuria Hub to figure it out.
I think it would be cool if a future splatoon game would play far away from inkopolis in a city somewhere else on the world with eastereggs to the country that was there before the great flood (like a game playing where canada, Italy, germany etc once were)
The way you casually said that you went to Kyoto station caught me off guard 😭
Genuinely wonder what makes the devs choose which text should be actually legible or just pure gibberish lol, seems almost random at times
"Yet another stage to explore and be not normal about" so fucking true
YES! Please talk more about trains!
id love to see those spreadsheets! also, ive used a seventeen ice machine before, and i find the cookies and creme very good, i suggest trying it
8:50
Aight, here comes Adam Something
petition for someone to ask in a dev interview about the deepsea metro map thing
👇
I just went to Japan and yeah we got(and lost) one of those clear umbrellas
Thank you rassicas for being not normal about a splatoon stage.... would love more videos in this vein. Bonus points for more autistic train info if applicable.
