is allot of money in italy the cost to redo the bathroom , is start from 6000€ can jump to infinity but with 6k you can make somthing nice
Personally, I'm a plumbing contractor with 49 years experience. Following behind and correcting the deficiencies of scab "contractors" is the worst! Good job....
StarrTile ambition and ability should never be confused
It was actually a waste of my time....you should pay me.
Docio Garcia
Obviously you mow lawns for a living!
If you think hiring a professional is expensive, wait until you hire an amateur
C List I love that saying, I gotta use this one !
LMFAO!
That's why I just learn everything about it and do it myself.😂
The tile job was way to complicated for the experience level. For the first few jobs stick with large subway tiles and watch some videos about how to do things, Ripping walls, showers, and plumbing out and starting over is always hard, you need a seasoned professional who has some background with a large builder and has leaned by helping new houses with some level of direction and supervision.
Kerchew you may have missed the point ... Hire a professional with reference. Home owner get it done attitude hardly ever goes well in a skilled trade. You can't just watch some RUclips and think to yourself gee I can do this that looks easy.
I always feel better about my own DIY tile job when I watch these videos!
Haha same! I didn't preslope my shower pan before putting down the liner. I thought it was the end of the world. Year 2 and I've never noticed a hint of issue with it. Watching these make me feel so much better
Right like tf
Hahaha. Right! I do too.
Please show us an after video. I'd love to see how you fixed it
me too!
That's not gonna happen
He didn’t fix it lol
They called me to redo it
As someone who has no experience in anything in this video, I am absolutely shocked at everything shown, that was mind blowingly bad.
Same here!!! Shocking. I mean, I have done rudimentary tile jobs only, and this is scary.
It is refreshing to see a man that takes his work seriously. We do home flips, but every one of our homes we make sure everything is done right and well.even if it takes more time, in the long run the client will be happier and your reputation healthier.
This tile jobs was amazing 😂😂😂 she was proud of her work wow I imagine her house🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Thanks for this. I am who this video is for. I'm just starting to build a house and don't know enough to spot bad work and bad contractors before its too late and videos like these are invaluable in helping me learn. I totally get that you aren't trashing other people but helping the rest of us. Please keep it up.
I've been a brick mason block stone. And over last 10 years tile installer I do anything masonary. Love your shows. It has helped me evolve my install skill and quality. There is no one that offers these vital lessons in installation. Takes years to learn your mess ups. So. Keep up the schooling it helps spread the craft
You're the best man! Because of your tutelage and videos I was able to build the best damn shower I've ever stepped foot into. I have emailed you to thank you personally and sent you pics of the job I did. Obviously I don't have the training and knowledge you have but I was very proud of the end results. All thx to you. I deeply appreciate what you've done for me by doing your videos. Now I'm moving on to the other bathroom to build a Roman tub shower. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You rock man!
Thank you i'm learning about redoing my bathroom and i don't want to make boo boos, so this is sooooo much appreciated! Dude don't worry about the length, the extensive detail is so much appreciated!!! Thank you so much!
I watch videos like this to learn, and see if a project is over my head.Keep doing what your doing
I dont even have words for this... im a young contractor myself and i always thought my first tile shower was rough until i saw this!
Once again Bob, you never fail to entertain and educate. This contract job is absolutely atrocious! I literally looked at my daughter while watching this vid and explained to her that I made a basement shower/bathroom from scratch with basically ZERO tile experience. I told her by watching your vids and those of TileMaster GA, that I learned enough to know what to do, what to avoid, and what to be mindful of. My bathroom came out so nice that I am very proud to say that "I" did that. So thanks again sir!
You will do a better job than most contractors, because 1. you are doing it for yourself 2. you will do it 5 times slower, and 2 times better 3. you have online resources to learn how to do it properly and what to avoid. It's not a rocket science 4. you will get professional tools
Wow! This is shocking! This is why I try to do everything myself. If there are mistakes, I have nobody to blame but myself. I just feel bad for the folks who don't have the confidence to tackle their own projects. Thankfully we have pros like Bob Doyle to guide us!
Love your channel.
I have to clear up handyman’s work constantly sometimes you should leave it to us professionals
I'm a big fan of doing what you can, just be willing to admit what you can't do. If nothing else, most folks are willing to do a consult for a few bucks. I did one for a bacon cheeseburger, doesn't hurt me to give advice as long as it doesn't take away from other jobs.
Sometimes.
I do it all myself too. The only time I run into problems is when I get to two man jobs..Do you ever call labor places for grut stuff or just to finish quicker? Craigslist?
Its a crap shoot getting help on the fly.
thanks, I am a contractor as well, it always nice to brush up on techniques!
You are helping a lot people with these type of videos. We not what not to do. Thank you👏
Bob Thank you for your videos before I started my bathroom remodel I watch all your Horror videos, I Finally Finish my restroom and I'm surprise that it looks better than most of the horror videos you posted. I might have a few mistakes here and there but ultimate the Job looks awesome.... Thank you for your videos..
Thanks for the kind words ;-)
Bless you bob. By the way. You can petition google/youtube to put ads back on your channel. There is no reason your channel is demonotized.
the reason is RUclips only wants to make money off ads for stupid shit like logan paul and stuff that makes kids eat tide pods
CommieTube
Dude, your vids helped me with my bathroom remodel. A real simple tiled wall over a dropped in tub. Simple things like keeping the tile off the tub, red guarding the wall behind the tile and back buttering the tiles made an amateur handy man like myself tile a wall that looks great and will outlast the house. Thank you for these vids!
That's great ! Glad I was able to help ;-)
I think your great. Love watching your videos. I’m a female contractor and love the tips you give. Extremely helpful. Thank you.
Thanks ;-)
Hey bro, don't let the haters hate. I love watching your videos. I've learned alot.
I’m surprised you didn’t say anything about one of the tiles on the floor that isn’t a 12x24. They just put a cut piece in with the 12x24 pieces. I have been doing construction for 13 years and I have always been a perfectionist with my work. I have always took pride in my work and that’s something that is very important to me. It’s unbelievable that somebody could do as horrible a job as this.
I appreciate your professionalism. I can't believe you were able to hold it together and not blast that installation more than you did. In business 30 years never seen anything that bad. I'm currently working on 31 inch by 31 in terrazzo 1 inch thick! 82 lb / tile. I had to tear up another installer's work that was half finished. The floor was horribly uneven, 3 inch drop in 27 ft and the previous installer told the homeowner they could level as they went by adding more thinset. Used a 1/4 by 1/4 trowel. As you can imagine it was a huge chocolate mess!!
They just don't understand, it's a learning video. So we don't make the same mistake "worker" did. Some people on here are so cruel. I appreciate the video and I watch it a few times so it sinks in lol. Great job brother 💪 . Thank you Betty much!!!
The only thing missing from this bathroom is a big turd on the floor...
WOW WTF!! Where do you find all these hacks? First thing I noticed was the cut tile on the floor in the middle of the row and then you went to the shower and holly cow that person had absolutely no idea what they where doing. That's just flat out ridiculous. I hate to say it but shame on the homeowner for not stopping them.
The first thing I saw was also the cut tile in the middle of the row. Crazy
Yes man. You are a good good human. These are things that matter in people's homes
Holy crap! I'm at a complete loss at how bad that tile was installed. This guy knows his stuff. Lots of good informative videos. I do flooring and tile. Ive never disagreed with what he says and I've picked up some very good info.
wow that was a bad tile job !
love your channel too! I love watching these to see what to watch out for when hiring out jobs
I just went through the same thing last April same type of deal closet and bathroom combined the guys started in January the homeowner called me in April. I had to tear apart the whole entire bathroom so in Plummer could come in and redo everything. The shark bite it into the original copper and added a CPVC reducer into a half inch PVC coupling and then proceeded to run half inch sprinkler pipe to the toilet, sinks and shower 😲
This is exactly why I have come across your video. previous owner of my parents house installed a walk in shower himself according to the neighbor and it looks about like this, my parents had to buy a large shower mat because the small one inch tiles are so uneven on the shower floor that they have cut their feet on them. I want to redo it for them, but don't want to make the same mistakes as the previous owner.
Bob to be honest this is not boring to me. It is very educational and oh geez this is the reason why im doing my own work be. You spend so much money to pay someone and they screw it all up.
Aside from the absolutely shitty workmanship, can't believe you didn't mention that one random 12x12 mixed in with all of the 12x24's on the floor. That cracked me up.
I had meant to mention it, but was overwhelmed with all the screw ups...
Funny though, in over a month NO ONE mentioned that until you !
That was the first thing i noticed hahaha crazy some people
You didn"t have to mention it .
First time watching this video today, thats the first thing i noticed lol
Good catch... I saw that too.
Haha Wow this is crazy! Super sad, I'm a contractor and have done numerous tear outs and repairs!! Super sad! I post videos on my own remodels!
I am glad you do these videos, Thank you.
Very meticulous! -I love it! Thank you for the advice, we bought a house where the previous owner remodeled the bathroom and apparently didn't do a good job in the shower or the entire bathroom for that matter. We recently tore part of the tiles in the shower and saw major wood rot on the built-in tile shower seat. Now I need to find a contractor/tiler and am concerned the tiling may not be done to my anal high standard expectation.
the only sure way is to find out the last 3 projects they did and inspect them yourself. get the homeowners contact info, people love to show off their new bathrooms.
Love the cut tile in the middle of floor.
Brutal
Holy crap! What a nightmare. I've never seen tile that bad..thank god you have that new demo hammer..haha
Love to see what it looks like when it's all re-done
Great video! I agree with everything you comment on.
Ive been in the tile bussiness for 10 years and this is one of the worst installs ive seen, man its horrible.
business*
One of the worst? How much worse could it possibly get? A gutted to the studs room would be in far better shape than this.
10 years,..Try talking to an old timer who has ONLY ever done tear outs and re-do's... You'll get an earful. Mistakes can get quite imaginative. It is EXTREMELY common where I am, to find tile installed directly on particle board underlayment...and believe it or not,..If it's not in a wet area,..It usually survives for decades longer than it needs to.
Pan liner on the main floor? Red flag right in the beginning. Y'all gotta go!
@@clayaustin9339 so is backer board required for all tile installs. I have worked with some pros who only used it for shower and bath enclosures?
I want to see part2 the tear down
I enjoy your bad tile job videos.
At the very least i can learn what i might run into when i get called out on a job to fix someone else's screwups.
And i learn a thing or two on occasion.
Thanks for what you do.
I feel your pain I’ve done tile work for many years and I’ve also had to redo many many bathrooms and everything you’re playing out I see that shit every day it looks great when it’s done but with the bathroom getting so much use come back in a year and see what happens and I’ve also seen a lot of curves in the shower that were not properly done Or pan liner wasn’t properly installed and the curb and swell up but that’s just one of many things that contractors you do wrong to keep up the good work and keep educating people and how are your knees holding up mine are pretty much done
You can also tell a good contractor by how he treats his tools. Trowel in point.
So true!
i actually don't agree. i used to know a fantastic carpenter with absolutely shite tools but he could do great work with it, same with an untidy van, doesn't mean untidy work.
Maybe in the tile world but in masonry a little dried mortar on a block trowel or the top of a mag shows experience.. Obviously you cant have a trashed bull float or fresno lol
I would have to say if I hired someone to come do work at my place and all tools were perfectly clean I would just assume it’s there first job and show them the door
No clean tools mean nothing when your working with thinset your tools will get dirty over time
As a contractor, there has been several times I've been asked to do a particular job that I CAN do, but I turn it down simply because I'm not an expert in certain things. I've even warned a couple of customers (this sounds strange), to be very careful of people like me who SAY they can do that, but don't have full expertise in it. One was a woman who had a whole bunch of work, including a full kitchen remake. I was fine with the other work and did an excellent job, but... I'm not a cabinet and kitchen guy. I warned her that for a main feature like a kitchen, the work MUST be done professionally or you'll probably regret it, even though I would've given it the best effort I could. Months later she thanked me HUGE for that advice, because they hired someone else who claimed they COULD do it, but started making a horrible disaster. They stopped the project and got a professional to do it. So basically, EVERY contractor/tradesman has to be aware of what their specialties and limitations are and you MUST be willing to let the customer know when they are wanting you to step outside of your skills. (Tiles is another job I turn down when asked. I CAN do tiles, but not at contractor quality.)
Framerite Airdrie i
Framerite Airdrie I like everything you said. I’m the same way when it comes to taking jobs, I always ask for a walk through. There are also things that I’m capable of as are you, but I hire subs for those things I’m not 100% good at. I’ve done work in different states and never have I seen Work as bad as that. Male or female.
Exactly. Im a plumber. People ask me if I can also do their tile or say framing aftet i do the plumbing. I say sorry but no. Its not worth the time or potential disaster.
I totally agree with you, I walk a job and flat out tell the homeowner that I can not or am not licensed to perform some of the work. More people should be able to ethically state that they are not experts on some types of work and pass it off to a professional. It's worth paying the extra and getting it done right the first time by a pro.
Framerite Airdrie I have a saying, I tell most clients ( half jokingly), “if you ever see a person reading the instructions, they shouldn’t be doing the job!”
I’ve been doing tile for over 2 years now and I started out as a helper and then I eventually began to my tile and now I do it by myself and I would never ever think to do a job so terrible as this. I take pride in my work and make sure the customer is satisfied with my job.
I enjoy and appreciate your videos.
You give good information and advice imo.
I have seen this type of work in flip house's that I inspect. On an inspection of a flip house I filled the tub then pulled the drain. Then water in the ceiling below. The trap for the tub was not attached and damaged the kitchen and flooring. The home flipper tried to sue me for damages.
good reason to have professional business and liability insurance.
I would counter claim against them for being the responsible party as they are the ones who did NOT cap the pipe as required by code so they would also be in violation of code. Code requires caps on any line that has sewer gas.
Rule number 1 never sue the clipboard man
This turns my stomach. I cannot imagine how upset and furious the owner must have been.
Wow, this makes me feel a lot safer doing the small DIY shower I'm doing because I'm somewhat of a perfectionist and I know mine will look a thousand times better than that, especially after watching so many of your videos thank you.
I totally lost for words just amazing how she even was able to get that far on the project before she got the boot!
I still can't believe this was a contractor. Also how can the home owner let contractor go so far on tile job.a blind man can see shoddy work
So Sad, what a cluster! This customer was taken...
My buddy is the best tile guy in the state. His reputation keeps him employed year round. He's a perfectionist and has an eye for details and a portfolio that will amaze anybody. Hes not cheap either, but like this bathroom, you get what you pay for which cost this homeowner alot more overall. Good video, and great advice for homeowners from a professional contractor.
Thanks I feel much better now.
This is the worst tile job I have ever seen! How do people get away with this crap💩☠️
when the homeowners are away or they just dont watch how people work at all, or are to afraid to call out illegal mexicans mistakes..
I was thinking the same thing, didn't want to put it in that term, but looks EXACTLY like their MOT. this whole job is first time tiler Zero experience
watsbeendone legacy when hiring people to remodel your bathroom etc, do you recommend the home owner to literally stand and watch? What if you are unable to be home to watch? Recommendations? Tips?
That was painful to watch. I would cry if I saw that in person. I would help sue the company that was involved
Wow....proud of her work. Unbelievable. Ive been in the construction business for nearly 20 year, and have been self employed as a residential renovations contractor for 4 years in the Tulsa OK area. These unskilled and unknowledgeable self proclaimed “contractors” are a disgrace. With that said, these are also the same individuals that ensure my continued success in business.
And you made some really good points about the budget costs. Too often consumers are uneducated as to the cost of renovations and remodels. Renovations can certainly be expensive, and there is likely a reason why a given “contractor” will bid a project for 50% or 60% of what is necessary to complete a quality product. Yes, a good contractor gets paid well for his time and experience, but dont be fooled into thinking that you are getting the same product for $12,000 as you are getting for $20,000. And no, cost does not validate a contractor either. Do your homework. Have conversations. Ask for references.
Thankyou so much for the video. This job is absolutely hideous, sickening, ugh! The person who did this should pay. Be sued. Whatever!
Wow the contractor should be sued. Terrible quality work.
I like how they did the whole floor in 12x24 and then there's one lonely little 12x12 Dutchman in the center of the Floor. what's up with that😂
First thing I noticed
Lol, didn’t even notice that the first time I watched. What a steaming pile of a reno
New design for the future
Damn that Dutchman hahahaahaa
good catch !
Thank you for your videos. For me they are helpful. Please keep doing them
I wish there was a way to give more thumbs up for such a professional explanation of everything!!! Thanks for the video!!!
WOW Bob! I must say, I am astonished that this was done by a so called "contractor". The shower I was able to make with your helpful vids puts this work to absolute shame.
Thank God for these videos, maybe the people who complain are the ones that do a shoddy job.
So funny how you guys got people all riled up. Different people have different talents and I hire by the portfolio and verify references. Nothing else matters when I have to outsource a task I cannot perform myself.
Your doing good man. There are always trolls. That's why we have alot of side jobs because of these people doing it wrong. All we can do is do it right and make a good name for ourselves. Keep up the amazing work!
I think this might be one of the most extreme shower/bath mistake videos you have ever posted! 5 yrs old, blind and on meth! haaha, sounds accurate to me!
Landberg Tile-Handyman-DIY don't blame the meth
These type of bad installs are the ones to make the homeowner cry in private knowing he paid thousands.
And a woman at the helm of organizing the construction project. Coincidence? I think not.
Lol why would you put pan liner on the floor and then screw the hardie backer into the liner. I'm no tile guy but that literally doesnt make any sense at all to me.
A lot of so-called good tile guys will do that on their curb and nail or screw wonderboard on all three sides of their curb and then waterproof it and hope it won't leak
Wow I realize how much I like this canal 😂
Im going to be building a tile shower that has no lip for my disabled brother. looking at a lot of vids and I hope I have a grasp on the way its done properly. Ill do more research as I move along. tile floor and subfloor is first. then shower tile walls and tile floor. Hope I dont mess it up.
I've been doing tiles for about 17 years now when I was first starting off and I was a helper I could have did better work than that
Sir, you owe me a new keyboard. I just barfed all over mine.
Larry Padilla .....Fof Flat Out Funny
Larry Padilla, my stomach was turning also watching that horrid mess
Same here, it's so bad. I wanted to shake the installer. I'm not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, but come on man, plan it out, pay attention to detail, and have some pride in your work. Don't sign your name on garbage. If it looks and/or functions like crap, remove and redo it.
Larry Padilla, ive been working on my bathroom for two years now......... good news is im at the tile install stage. All stages of the project done by myself, minus electrical.
Larry Padilla i do brick work so looking at those cuts made me sick
Unfortunately there's a lot of contractors that don't do correct installs that leak. Look great, but water damage underneath.
It's happened to me as well. Thanks for your videos showing the mistakes made.
If you can rotate the sharkbite, there's no pressure in the pipe. This video makes me glad that I thoroughly researched everything before doing my bathroom
You gotta ignore the trolls Bro. They win if you acknowledge them
?
Omg😟...This is a complete disaster!!. That contractor must be in Jail..banned Forever!!!
You speak the truth. I had a contractor come in and do a tile floor and asked about doing my shower as well. He assured me that he could do it because he had take Schluter training and that it was the best ever. So, what happened? First the drain was so messed up they had to redo it, then the shower floor was uneven so they redid the floor and guess what, in the finished product the shower floor has a low spot about 8" x 12". After watching your previous video I see all of the mistakes in my shower. Not sure the Schluter kerdi was installed correctly either. Lucky I am on a slab and not a second story. debating about tearing our the floor and redoing. How they got it uneven when they used the Schluter foam base. Called Schluter and they said not their problem. Contractor left saying my wife and I are difficult people. Yes, I already paid less about 10% as we paid as we went. Everything you are saying is correct, and I speak from experience. I am not a home owner too embarrassed to blame it on a contractor and his terrible crew. Oh, and they used Pex piping, saying, like the Schluter, it is the best way to go and most reliable. I wish I had done it myself. Thanks for your video, as they are very informative for anyone thinking about redoing a job themselves or things to watch for. Thanks
Keep with the videos your doing a great job.
That job has been done by a tiler who just doesn’t care. I’ve tiled my bathroom and I’m meticulous about getting everything square and proper. How hard is it to use tile spacers... really??
Agreed, tile spacers are your friend
I've never tiled, intend to gut and redo my bathroom using your videos. I know I could have done a much better job than that.
Joe Maniaci me too. Im also a woman, but this lady contractor was on something really heavy.
wow I've seen some bad jobs but this was absolutely horrible! it amazes me how some people have no sense of pride in their work! Great Video!
I hired a contractor who promised to do the best. But when the inspection came home he didn't approved his job and he just was so busy to come back to fix the problem as he promised. He never returned an expensive tool ....to make the story short he just stole my money and did nothing. I wonder how some people can live with that, I learned a lot, and after my experience I heard some horrible stories with contractors.
Write an honest review of the contractor and his work on a few of the review sites. Perhaps he will find the time to come back and fix things when his business is tanking from a bad rep and he wants you to update your review.
The title choice is gaudy let alone the work which is horrendous
I am also a woman tile contractor. This is an unbelievably bad job! I can't believe she thought it was good! I can say I did go into a home where a guy charged a couple $13000.00 for a bathroom and it was not quite this bad but almost.
Clients, please visit the site on a regular basis, there are many reasons you should do so, if not to put a shop to a worthless job, at least to check up on how it's going, and as a painter, I have had clients ask me to stop after I did the base coat because they liked the wall better in white and wanted a different wall colored.
If you trust me to do the job, I'll have no issue with you coming over to check up on it regularly, in fact I prefer clients who do, allows me to check stuff directly instead of over the phone or by email.
And often results in extra work because they like what I do and how I deal with them.
Thanks for doing these.
I find it unbelievable that crooks like this go around scamming people off their hard earned money with no remorse what do ever, this is jst a total disaster all around...
she probably doesnt think of a herself as a crook. thats the problem
She (the contractor) very likely has a narcissistic personality disorder (5% of the population does). They are perfect in their own minds, and they are incapable of making a mistake! Everything that goes wrong is someone else's fault, and never are they at fault. Since they are incapable of making a mistake, they will NEVER apologize or change their behavior. Sometimes their behavior is so bad they aren't even conscious of the great harm they are doing.
10g for labor I help for a lot less than that.
When you lifted that tile at the door I blew tea out my nose. Lol
Wow.... just wow. Great video
back from jamaica mon and you already walked into this mess?
How do you spend 25K on a bathroom anyway, especially one as small as that? That's probably close to triple what it should cost, even if done properly.
Grateful Dude I just finished a full master bath that was 35k it can be done
dennis huber I'm sure that was in a mansion. It can be done (upscale 200sf bathroom), but I'm just saying, this bathroom ain't it.
I also figured out that it never really was 25K, but the title of the video is misleading. The cost of the mistake was 25K minus whatever Bob would have charged to do it properly in the first place.
Must have been fun working on that job, anyway.
that's for two bathrooms in the same area, overlapping in space though not in time... people pay extra for all sorts of new age bs xD
/sarc
I could redo this bath for under a 1k only thing that really cost is tile. So watch for sales clearance tile and there you go.
I just finished a 250k bathroom remodel. Pulled out walls. Opened it up, 4 rain heads with a custom floated shower room with a recessed 14 person hot tub. Required us to take an exterior wall out and have the hot tub dropped in by a truck mounted boom. Plumbing. Ect. Cabinets from Italy, custom frosted glass sliding doors into their wack sauna/shower/jacuzzi room. Some people have too much money 😂
Thank you! I needed to see this!
I had a local guy give me a 40k estimate to make a shower and rwmodel a master bathroom. He said only Kerdi would suffice. First I beefed up the floor joists with 2x12s, then I made a mud bed with portland cement, graded it to the new drain I plumbed, redguard, then just tile and epoxy grout. The damn thing is stronger than I would ever have thought. And doesnt leak a bit. Been like 5 years. I spent a little under 3k following his estimate as a todo list. haha
I would freak out when I got a little bit of crud in one of the four weep holes in my drains, I cant imagine sleeping well after these holidays. Especially if this was the house you lived in or god forbid were the owner.
those are some major rookie mistakes!
3:25 "I'm going to go through this quickly." He says 3 mins into a 20 min video.
I have seen a lot of this guy's videos and most could be ok but I think he likes to hear himself talk.
I can't tell you how many contracts I have lost to low-ballers where a couple years later the customer had to redo the work at twice the expense. You made the point. A 20k job should not have a comparable bid at 12k. Something's up. Unfortunately, many customers kid themselves into thinking they are getting the same end product.
